Chapter 15: Newborns

Recap: They may have been born in the middle of a fight starting, but I will protect them with my life. They are my life now. As I see my children smiling while sleeping, I'll never let that smile fade.

After an hour or so, the Dr. Watson came and took our children to the maturnity ward for newborns so that they could be washed and cleaned. Ren stayed with me the entire night while the rest of the pack went home.

Sunlight flooded through the hospital window, waking me. I softly grunted and blinked a couple times to let my eyes adjust to the new amount of sunight in the room.

I try and sit up and find my muscles are sore and tense from last night's events. Man, I love my children, but I will never go through this again. Looking around, I find the room clean and, well, bright. I look over and Ren's asleep in the chair next to my bed. He is going to be very sore when he wakes up.

I look down and his hand is holding mine. I smile at him and gently pull my hand away. This is going to suck, but I need to get these muscles all unwound. I stretched my arms over my head and winced in pain from the muscle tension. I cracked my back and stretched my legs, releaving a lot of tension.

It still bothers me at how I was able to have my children. I'm glad they're alive and well, but my mom had said that I wasn't able because I hadn't been exposed to the Blood Moon rays. I have yet to tell my mother and she's going to be furious because she didn't get to throw a baby shower or somethin' like that.

Speaking of that, I dpn't have jacksquat at home for the babies. No diapers or food, or even a fricken room ready. I grab my phone off the end table on my right and look at the time. It's about 9:30 and there's several missed calls and unanswered texts from everybody. The most recent is from Bryn asking me if I'm awake and how I'm doing.

She's pretty worried from the sound of it, so I hit reply and type "It's alright Bryn. I'm fine. Ren's asleep and yes I'm awake. Could you come to the hospital and bring me some clothes? The one's here are ruined and I'm in a plastic gown that itches."

"Sure" was her reply. "I'll be down in ten." I knew I could depend on Bryn for anything.

Ren began to stir next to me. He had the same reaction to the light that I did except it was brighter this time. He just groaned really loudly and rubbed the sleepiness from his eyes with the back of his hand.

"What time is it, Lily?" he asked, groggily.

"A little after 9:30." he sighed and nodded.

"How ya feelin'? You seemed pretty tired after the babies came along. Dr. Watson came and took them to the Newborns area."

"Yeah. I know. I'm feeling pretty damn good considering I just had two children."

We laughed at the stupid comment together. Then the mood shifted into a very serious mood. The silence in the room was almost deafening.

"Lily, you do understand how much harder this is going to be. I love our children, but they were born at the most dangerous point in time right now. We have to keep them safe and search for the missing members of that pack, while fending off a threat which might not even exsist."

I understand perfectly. He's right. They couldn't have been born at a worst time than now. I honestly have no idea how we're going to raise two newborns, while searching for the rest of that pack.

"What are we going to do, Ren? We're going to be chasing an unknown evil that might not even exsist and try to raise our newborns; how are we going to protect them? I looked over at our two new children who were sleeping together in a crib that Bryn had bought as a present for the twins. She had only brought one because we had only thought that there was going to be only one, but I was blessed with a beautiful pair of twins. Tessa had Ren's eyes and my hair with my fair complexion. Will had Ren's hair and my eyes.

These two are going to grow up and be well off together and they're going to have eachothers backs, no matter the situation. I can see it now. Will is going to grow up protecting his little sister.

But I need to make sure that they can get to that point. I'm not going to let my children grow up without parents, so I'll do what ever I need to so that I can protect my children, so that they can still have a future with us. I had made up my mind. This is going to be the single hardest thing that I've ever done in my life, but I have to.

Looking at Ren, I know he had heard what I was thinking. "Are you sure that you want to do this?" he said.

"We don't have another choice. I'll contact my mother and have her set up everything. I'm not going to let our children see this happen right before their eyes. Even if it means I have to send them away for the time being."

"Where are we going to send them, Cal?" Ren asks as he pulls the soft blanket over Will and Tessa.

"Do you remember the close family friend that lives in China?"

"Which one? Zhang Yixing or Luhan?"

"Both of them. They're both members of the same pack. There's twelve of them in that entire pack and they are known for being one of the stongest packs in all the world. It's a good thing for us that we're allies not enemies other wise, we would be really screwed if we ever crossed them."

"Can we really rely on them? How long has it been since we've had contact with them?"

"They were at the Union with the Keepers up in the private viewing area. They were sitting next to my parents. And they are very reliable. They're actually very close with our family. We recieve small little presents from them every now and then. Plus we've called upon they're help in the past before and they've always been there for us."

Ren nodded his head in approval. I wasn't going to tell him that if you hadn't been born or would have been a girl, I would have been married off to one of the members of that pack instead. He doesn't have to know that.

A few hours later, I was u and walking. I took a nice long shower and enjoyed washing away all the grime from the past few days. Then I was discharged from the hospital along with my two children. According to the doctor, they were both perfectly healthy. I was really happy to hear that. Bryn was waiting outside the hospital with the black cherokee that Ren had let her borrow to go home and rest. She opened the back doors and sitting in the seats were seats for the babies.

I stared at her while, she just smiled at me. "What would you do without me?" she asked as she settled Tessa and Will in their seats.

"I don't even wanna think about that." I settled myself between Tessa and Will, just so I could be there incase one of them woke up again.

I'm so sorry to the both of you. I don't want to send you away, but it's only for a short time and then I'll be back to protect you again.

Then the last thing I saw before we got home made my heart twinge just a little bit. A small crystal tear slid down both of their cheeks.

No one will ever touch you. I won't let them.

When we got home from the hospital, I walked upstairs to find that the spare room in our complex had been converted into a room for the babies. The room was a pretty lavender and there were two pretty mahogany cribs with white desgins all over them. There was also a white sheer cover that hung from the celing that covered the cribs. It looked like the room was fit for royal babies. There was a little nook in the corner for the babies to be read to and a rocking chair.

"Do you like it?" I heard a small voice come from behind me." I turned to find Cosette standing there playing with the edge of her skirt like a child. It was quite cute.

"Its beautiful, Cosette. When did you find the time to do this?" I admired the paintings that were hanging on the walls.

"Bryn called me and told me that you had the babies and I saw that the room hadn't been ready for them to come home so I thought I would be helpful and-" I cut her off my pulling her into a warm hug. I felt her stiffen underneath my embrace.

"Thank you, Cosette. You did so much for us. Thank you." I felt her loosen up a bit and hug me back before I heard a faint "You're welcome, Calla." In that moment, I swear I could feel her smiling.

"What's going on here?" We pulled away and saw Ren standing there with both of the babies.

"Cosette decorated the room for Tessa and Will. I was thanking her for it." I said as I went and took Will from Ren.

Ren put a hand on Cosette's shoulder and thanked her for the room before she scurried off. You'd think that she'd be more comfortable around Ren than me, but it seems the completel opposite.

Ren's eyes widened when he saw how well decorated the room was. "She did all of this for them?"

"She did. She seems for much more open and less introverted than she was before." I said as I put Will in his crib before he wakes up from all the noise. Ren does the same thing with Tessa and we turn on the baby monitors and close the door, leaving with one of the monitors.

"Did you call Naomi yet?" Ren asks me as we head down stairs to the kitchen.

"No. I think I need to ask this of her in person, rather than over the phone."

"What is it you need to ask me about Calla?" I spin around and find my mother standing there removing her over coat and placing it in the closet.

"Mom, can we talk upstairs? Please. I turn to my dad who's been sitting in the living room reading the paper. "Dad you too. Please." My mother and father stared at me. I had never asked them for anything before, but this is the one thing that I will ever ask of them. Nothing more than this.

"Of course, Calla. Lets go talk in the study." My father led us to the study and we sat down on the couches that were provided.

"As you both know, theres a new potential threat looming over our shoulders. I don't want Tessa or Will around any of this. I was wondering if it would be possible to get in touch with the Chinese pack again. They are the most well trained pack in the world and I know we trust them with the most precious of our things and I trust no one more than to look after Tessa and Will while this is going on." They exchanged looks and nodded at eachother.

"It is a very wise choice Calla. I can call Yixing and Luhan and they can both come and get Will and Tessa with in the next day. But are you absolutely sure that you want to do this?"

I looked at Ren who said nothing, but said everything at the same time. "I am, Dad. Please. Give me the phone number and I can make the calls if nessicary."

"Here you go. Make sure that you use the proper greeting when they pick up otherwise they might just hang up thinking that its a wrong number or an enemy. It's most likely that the pack leader will pick up, not Zhang or Luhan, just make sure you ask for them. They all speak English and Manderin very well."

"Thank you Dad." I took the numbers from him and turned to leave the room with Ren, when my fathers voice stopped me.

"I'm so proud of you Calla. You're acting like the Alpha I know you are and a strong young woman." he said with a smile on his face.

"Thank you Dad for everything." He just smiled and tended to something on his desk.

I left the room and went out side on to the patio to make this call.

I began to dial the number and I was not expecting it to be so long. I understand that it's China, but damn people.

"Hello?" a Chinese accent came from over the other end of the line.

"My name is Calla, I am Stephen Tor's daughter."

"Ah, young Calla. I was wondering when I would hear from you. I haven't seen you since the Union. Did you like the present we gave you?" They had made a beautiful jade vase with chinese characters over it that said 'When two people are one in their in most hearts, they shatter the strength of iron and bronze'. It was a lovely gift and it sits in the bedroom on the nightstand.

"It was lovely thank you, Alpha." I heard a chuckle come from the backround noise and a loud "I TOLD YOU SO".

"Am I on speaker phone?" I ask with slight irritation in my voice.

"Yes, Calla. And there's no need to call me Alpha, you can call me Kris. And the loud 'I told you so' was Luhan yelling at Chen because Chen thought that you wouldn't like the gift and they had bet 20 won on it. Now why is the daughter of Stephen Tor calling? It is like 6 in the morning here, you know."

"I apologise for calling so early right now, but I need you help. May I please talk to Yixing and Luhan for a moment?"

"Of course Calla." I heard Kris yelling for the two of them and a faint, 'Drop my phone and I'll skin you alive'.

"Calla?"

"How are you Yixing? It's been a long time."

"No it hasn't. Not really. I was at your Union with Luhan after all." he commented.

"Hmmm..Right. So now, I need to ask the two of you for a favor, so please hear me out." I asked.

"Of course, Calla. What is it?" Luhan asked.

" A little while ago a new pack had come into Vail and they claimed that a new threat was coming after all of us. My two children had just been born and I don't want them to get hurt and I remember the numbers of your guys' pack and the strength it has, so I need you to take them and protect them until I can come and get them. I know it sounded unreasonable, but I would never ask this of you unless it was abolutely nessicary."

"We understand, Calla and I appreciate the admiration for our loyality and strength. We will take care of your children with the upmost protection until you're ready for them to come back home. We'll leave tonight, if you need us to." the both of them said in unison.

"Much appreciated you guys. Your plane tickets will be waiting at the airport under my fathers name. They will already be paid for the round trip. Thank you both so much for doing this."

I heard a click and then speaker phone was off and I was only talking to Yixing.

"There isn't a thing in the world I wouldn't do for the Tor Family. Your family has been the most gracious out of all our allies. We'll see you sometime tomorrow. I'll call you when we're almost ready to land.

"Thank you, Yixing." and with that I hung up on him.

And to think that if Ren hadn't been born I would have been married to Yixing right now. I made the call to reserve the plane tickets for Yixing and Luhan and I texted them their flight information.

I went down stairs and grabbed a manderin orange from the fridge and peeled it. I took it back up stairs and sat in the room with Tessa and Will. They're so beautiful.

"I love you both. I hope you know that and I'm sorry to be leaving you like this."

I sat in the dark room and ate the orange slice by slice while watching the sunset through the window.

That night I dreamed about how the problem might play out. If everything happens the way I think it's going to, this is only the tip of the iceburg. The storm hasn't even hit yet.
