Harley Potter and The Chamber Of Secrets

The Girl Who Lived

Chapter Eight

So Different Yet The Same

The rooms lighting was dimmed, giving it a mystifying feel to it. Candles surrounded the living room, placed on tables, desks, the fireplace ledge and many other areas within the large living space. The flickering flames cast shadows against the wall, making them dance in the flickering light. In the middle of the room sat Harley Potter on the soft leather over stuffed cushion that she had taken off of the black leather couch. Her legs sat crossed over each other in Indian style. The pants she wore stuck uncomfortably to her as her hands sat loosely in her lap, her fingers twitched and rubbed against each other continuously, before rubbing on the light blue Levi jeans. As she twitched in her seat, the cushion made a loud squeak from the sudden movement. Ignoring the noise, she continued to keep her eyes closed as she concentrated on the object in front of her, between herself and her mentor.

Her breathing was deep and mellow, as she continued to relax, almost in a meditation stage. She could feel the air, all of its molecule's floating around her in a slow lazy way. She could feel the pressure of the air against her skin and everything else. In her minds eyes, she could see the air surrounding the book. With another slow breath of air released she concentrated on pushing the air towards the book, surrounding it fully before pushing it underneath and levitating it.

Regulus, who sat across from her; also sat on a cushion from the couch with his legs crossed over one another in Indian style, his hands were place atop of his knees, tapping his pointer finger of his right hand against the jean pants he wore. His stormy blue gaze flickered from the object in front of him to Harley's serene face continuously, as if he was waiting for something to happen.

His black hair fell into his eyes as he looked closely at the twelve year old before him. She had come a long way from what she once been only a month ago. It was nearing the end of the summer, seeing as Harley's Birthday had passed just a few days ago. He had made her celebrate, by taking her to dinner and giving a day were she could enjoy doing what she loved, a day free of work and just practicing magic. A smile graced his lips as he looked at the slowly levitating object in front of him. He spoke softly, as to not break her concentration and the calming feel within the room. "It's floating." He whispered, a proud tone in his voice.

Harley smiled softly at her mentor's words. She felt proud of herself for finally achieving this difficult part of natural magic. After reading Powers Of A Natural and Powers Of The Pentagram, she thought, perhaps she could do something like those witches and wizards once could. The last witch and wizard to use this Powers of a Natural and Powers Of The Pentagram had been over three hundred and fifty years ago. She supposed, the only reason why she was able to do something like this, was either because she was some how distantly related to one of them, or she was more powerful than she thought. She wasn't sure yet. Even though it said only one who had the same blood could do something like she was doing, she had never been normal, even in wizarding standards. Harley had wanted to use the elements and natural pure energy.

She didn't want to always use her core that was within all normal wizards and witches; it's what allowed them to use their magic. She wanted to use the Earths natural energy into a force of protection; she wanted to train herself in it and be the best in it. She found Naturals to be quite fascinating. They were witches or wizards that had transformed energy of any matter and form into a thing of magic. They were able to transform almost anything into something useable. They could conjure anything they set their minds to into thin air or even use wand energy or wizarding magic into something of natural energy.

After Harley had finished reading Power Of A Natural and what they did and how they did, she had begun her training in it. She wanted to be a Natural Magi, not just a Natural who could only do some of what was said, which was the lowest level in ranks, she wanted to be the highest. When she began her training in Natural Magic, she turned her attention to her second book.

She found the Power Of The Pentagram a thing of genius. It was the magic to be able to do element manipulation, as well as transforming ones magic into other uses, such as telepathy, empathy and visions, among other things. She thought it was amazing some of the things you could do with it. For those wizards and witches that had worked on conquering the elements, to be able to manipulate them, had taken time. Not only did it take time to try and become a Master but it took a lot of will and patience.

It had taken Harley, and still did, such a long time to manipulate the element of air, to use it as another force of magic. Just like using it to change the weather, among other things. Now, Harley wasn't going to start calling herself something superior to the other witches or wizards in the world, just that she was more advanced. When she had asked Regulus how he knew so much, or even more than the books, he had said he learned it from some that was once a 'friend'. Not that Harley actually believed his lie, but made no remark on it.

Bright, alluring, emerald and Avada Kedavra green colored eyes flickered open as she looked at the floating and rather heavy book in front of her. A few weeks ago she had not been able to lift a feather, now, she was lifting books after many tiring days that usually left her with migraines. "Can you open it? Without your hands?" Regulus questioned eagerly, much like a small child seeing something they so wanted more of. He knew she'd be strong enough soon to be able to duel the Dark Lord, whenever he came back, and he would come back. It was just a matter of time.

A half smile crossed her lips as she shrugged her pale slim shoulders. Raising her hands she made a small flick of her fingers, causing the book to flip open. With another flick of her fingers, she began to flip through the pages of the book without actually touching it. Regulus watched on smugly. She was getting better at practicing this brand of magic.

Harley stopped missing with the book and left it in the air, spinning in a slow circle. She no longer felt tired when she used this new type of magic. It didn't drain her like it use to. The only time it did was when she used it for long periods of time or tried to change the weather. Since air was a natural breathing being, it was hard to control. Harley was dreading, some what, on trying to control fire. With a sigh she let the book drop to the floor with a thud.

"Now that you practiced that brand of magic. Why don't we try non-verbal and wandless spells?" Regulus questioned as he looked to the raven-haired girl. Nodding her head she stood up from the cushion and straightened out her loose fitting jeans. Her hands felt sweaty as she wiped the clammy palms of her hands onto the gray fabric of her jeans. Her red tang top was covered with a thin, magically, warmed sweatshirt. It was getting colder now that it was nearing winter and fall again. She brushed her unnatural unruly hair behind her ears as she looked to Regulus.

"I'll need to use your wand for non-verbal." She stated. Ever since Regulus practically ordered her not to use her wand for magic out of school, which she listened to, only because he threatened her with not teaching her more magic, she had taken to using his. Which, made her almost want to burst into a fit of giggles, and Harley wasn't one to go giggling. But it amazed her, how the ministry only kept track of when the owners wand was used, not the owner itself. To trick the Ministry, she used Regulus's slick brown wand for her sessions. It made her wonder at times, if the Ministry was that stupid enough to not realize children could use their parents wands without them knowing, or if it was the children that were stupid enough not to realize it. 'It's probably both.' She figured with a smirk. Regulus pulled out his wand from his pocket and held it in his hand. For now, he was going to make her use wandless magic.

"Shall we begin?" Regulus asked, snapping the young girl out of her thoughts.

"Yeah…right…lets begins." Harley stated with a nod of her head. For now, she pushed away any thoughts that floated to the surface of her mind.

Clearing his throat, he began to speak. "Now, to do wandless magic, you have to memorize the movement of the spell you wish to do, in your mind." He paused to let the information sink in. "Just like you would normally do with you wand. Then, you'd raise your hand, palm up or with your pointer finger, and yell or speak the name of the spell you are still thinking of." Regulus stressed as he watched Harley closely. She smiled and ingrained the information in her minds memory. "Understand?" He questioned. Nodding her head Harley looked straight ahead at the table placed a few feet away from her.

"Can I give it a try?" She questioned. Her intense, exciting, emerald green eyes glanced at him from the corner of her eyes as she watched Regulus stand at her side. He nodded his head and thought of a spell she could do.

"Let's try Expelliarmus. Shall we? It's one of the easiest spells to master with a wand, it shouldn't be too difficult without a wand." Regulus spoke after a few minutes of shifting through his mind of every spell he knew, which was quite a lot. Taking a deep breath she let it out slowly as she relaxed her posture and stood up straight. She began to memorize the swish of her wrist and jab of her wand pointing forward. She remembered the book flying back after the movement of her hand and speaking the spell. As she continued to repeat the movement for the spell she raised her hand, with a swish of her wrist and a jab of her hand she spoke.

"Expelliarmus!" She felt her hand beginning to tingle as it glowed a bright red. A red flash of light shot of the palm of her hand and across the room. The spells light connected to the table and caused it to fly backwards across the room and into the freshly painted walls. Regulus clapped at the display of magic. He was right from the start. Harley was a natural at magic. It all seemed to come easy for her. Which was a good thing when it came to being a witch that was hunted.

"Well done Harley. Let's try a non-verbal spell and we can start some other kinds of things." He stated with a smile. Harley nodded her head in agreement. She was eager to continue this session. "Would you like to try a duel?" Regulus questioned with curiosity. Harley's eyes widened slightly and an eager smile began to grace her lips as she nodded her head.

"How –" Harley began to question before Regulus speaking quickly cut her off.

"Why don't we try you doing wandless magic as I use my wand?" The older male questioned with a raise of his eyebrow. He wasn't that good at wandless magic, but Harley seemed to get the grasp of it and it would be perfect practice.

"Why do you want me to try to use wandless? Not that I'm not saying that I don't want to." Harley replied at the look that began to cross Regulus's face.

"Incase you ever get into a duel and loose your wand in the process, you will still be able to do magic. It is always good to be prepared for the unexpended." Regulus stated firmly. His stormy blue eyes seemed to become darker as he spoke. The candlelight from the flickering flames of the candles cast shadows over his face as he spoke to Harley. He stood in front of her and a few feet away from her. "Darker times will arise Harley. Many may believe that Lord Voldemort is gone, but I do not." He paused to gauge the reaction from the twelve year old.

Her face was blank, as her were her eyes. He knew this wasn't exactly a good conversation to have with a twelve-year-old girl, but Harley was far more mature than most children her age. Most adults still assumed she wasn't old enough to know of things that she should know. "Lord Voldemort was always an intelligent wizard and powerful beyond imagination. You need to know every possible way to fight. When He does rise back to power –" Seeing Harley open her mouth to speak, he cut her off. "And He will rise back, you need to know what you're up against, I'm the best person option you have for someone to teach you."

Harley nodded in agreement and waited for him to continue speaking. "I'm going to continue to teach you wandless magic, non-verbal magic, Natural Magic, Element Manipulation and anything else I can." He ordered firmly. "It will be during Hogwarts still, seeing as we have the vanishing cabinets." He spoke with a smile. They had found another one of the vanishing cabinets not too long ago and since they had one already in Harley's black chest and one now in the House of Black, they could easily speak to one another and continue to practice while she was at Hogwarts.

"Alright. Let's get started then." Harley stated. Regulus nodded and took a few steps before he was a good enough distant away from her. Harley rolled her neck, getting the cricks out of it and stretched her arms. Her neck and shoulders had been stiff from the work out she had done earlier. The two figures bowed to one another, not taking their eyes off of one another.

"Avis!" Regulus shouted, causing a large flock of birds to appear from his wand and shoot towards Harley who quickly thought of a spell.

"Reducto!" She called back, causing the birds to explode into ash and caused Regulus to fly back from the rush of energy. He flew into the brown wooden table up against the wall behind him.

"Expelliarmus!" Harley, unable to counter the jet of scarlet light went flying back across the living room and towards the other side of the room. Slamming into the wall she fell to the floor with a loud thud. She could feel the adrenaline cursing through her body, causing her not to feel pain as she hopped quickly to her feet.

"Diffindo!" Harley hollered, causing a bright purple light to shoot out of her hand and towards Regulus. He didn't expect the cutting curse to go flying at him and connect to his chest, causing him to fly back as the curse destroyed his top and cutting into his skin, like small paper cuts. It wasn't enough to cause serious damage. He knew Harley would never harm him. She only would harm those she saw as a threat and he was no threat to her.

Regulus stumbled to the floor from the curse and lay there for only a moment before shaking off the pain he felt.

His own adrenaline rush was making his heart pound and stomach turn. Even though this was not a dangerous duel like those he had once had against Auror's, it still gave him a rush. He jumped to his feet and faced Harley. The couches, chairs and tables in the room had been moved against the wall and out of the way of their duel. Slowly the two companions circled one another in a predatory way. One first over the other was the way they walked as they faced each other. Both never took their eyes off each other as they stared with wary of what was going to happen next.

"Expulso!" Regulus called, the jet of blue light shot out from his wand and towards Harley.

"Expelliarmus!" Harley snapped, the scarlet jet of light connected to the blue, causing a spark of explosion as the two lights diffused each other. "Furnuculus!" Harley stated as her mind thought of how you would perform the curse if you had a wand. The jet of orange light shot out and towards Regulus.

"Experlliarmus!" He stated, making the curse that would have had been covered in boils useless as the scarlet light of the spell connected with the orange light, making the spells disappear. "Impedimenta!" The jet of yellow light shot out of his wand and almost connected to Harley before she dodged out of the way by falling and rolling to the floor.

The duel went on for another hour, the two of them dodging, ducking, rolling, jumping and flying across the room, ending up with many bruises, scratches, cuts and gashes across their body. The two panted as they came to truce, both tired and sore from their long duel. Harley collapsed onto her back on the couch, where half of the stuffing inside of it was missing. They had swatted, pushed and dissolved the spells at times when they did have time. "That…was absolutely tiring." She grumbled. A hiss escaped her through clenched teeth as one of the gashes on her back pulled. Regulus collapsed beside her, his own muscles screamed in protest at the sudden movement.

"You're getting better." He replied in answer as he leaned his head back against the couch cushions. His head was pounding from the encounter of continuously falling to the floor or hitting the walls. "You have your self defense class in an hour." Regulus remarked after a couple of minutes of silence. Harley made a noise in the back of her throat as she twitched back and forth, trying to get comfortable.

"Well…" Harley stopped as she lost her train of thought. What was she going to say? Oh yes; now she remembered after minutes of silence and trying to get her train of thought back. "Can I get some piercings and tattoos on my thirteenth and fourteenth birthday next year?"

Regulus's head rolled to the left, his stormy blue eyes looked down at Harley with a raised eyebrow. "Why do you want that?" He questioned.

"Well…" Harley drawled out. "I am a teenage girl that wishes she could be normal and the only normal thing I know is tattoos and piercings. Which when you think about it, is a whole lot better than what I could be asking for." She stated simply as her head moved backwards as her eyes connected with his.

"True." Regulus agreed with a short nod. "Fine." He sighed after giving it some thought. Was this what it was like to have a child? "On your next birthdays and over those two years we'll get you tattoos and piercings."

Harley gave a bright smile as she looked at the man who had helped her over the last year. "You're the best."

"Of course I am. I am a Black." Regulus stated haughtily. There was a moment of silence before the two burst into laughter.

"Aww, that never gets old." Harley said, wiping away tears of laughter from her eyes. "Hmm…I don't want to get up." She yawned. Her hand covered her mouth as that was the polite way to do it.

"Then don't."

"I have to." Harley replied.

"Do not."

"Do too."

"Not so."

"Yes so."

The two continued to banter before Harley threw up her hands. "Fine. I won't get up until we have to leave ten or so minutes before self defense classes." Harley loved her self-defense classes. Her class taught her many different kinds of defense. They taught both regular self-defense and also weapons. It was three days a week for self defense and three days a week weapon defense, then one day a weak it was teaching both self defense and weapons in a combination.

Her self-defense classes taught her Karate, Kung Fu, Jiu-Jitsu, Tai Chi, Kickboxing, Aikido, Wing Chun, Jeet Kune Do, Western Boxing, Keysi Fighting Method and Krav Maga fighting. Her classes were full of exercise because when she was trained, they taught her how to fight opponents using these different kinds of material arts. The reason why they taught the class so many way of fighting was so they could make their own type of fighting method using different martial arts.

Her self defense weapons training was learning how to use different kinds of swords, knives, short staff (stick weapons), long weapons (spears and staffs) and 'soft' weapons. These classes where watched closely by many of the teachers at her self-defense school. They made sure each student was dressed in the correct attire. This class was taught different weapons and the correct way to use it because of the many different weapons there was.

Harley would be learning self-defense today by her teachers when she went there. She could feel excitement building up. She always did love these classes. She was still going to be going to them over the school year. Now that they had the vanishing cabinets to use, she'd be able to go everyday at six. Without anyone noticing she was gone, hopefully.

"Come on. Time to heal you up and take you to your classes." Regulus sighed. He pushed himself up from the couch, pulling Harley up with him. The two sighed in unison before heading for the kitchen for a few potion vials before leaving for Dwain Self Defense Classes.

Well, I don't know how much you're like this chapter. It's my 'I still have a slight writers block but this is as good as I can come up with', type of chapter. I do hope you like this chapter though. It just shows how much Regulus helps and how much the two get along, like best friends, or even a brother/sister kind of relationship. They banter and mock each other, but in the end, they care about each other.

Let's see, the next chapter of this story is pretty much done. I have three chapters of this story that I've already written but I am rewriting because some of it just doesn't sit well with me.

The one reason why I actually got really interested in writing again is because I was finally able to buy Harry Potter and The Deathly Hollows Part 1. It was a great movie! I loved how they made it serious but also put some comedy into it as well. I'll end up watching it again.

Anyways, I also have some other stories I want to put up and see what you all think. I have about two done so far and I have another few to do.

Reviews and some criticism would be nice! Your opinions on what you think should happen is fine with me. I just might take it into consideration if I like your ideas!
