Hello again! :) Thank you to the people who took the time to read the first chapter. I'm really happy with how it turned out and I've gotten a couple reviews and thank you so much to those who did leave one! I'm hoping chapter 2 will have the same kind of positive response, so here is chapter 2! :D
Ruby tried to wiggle free from the giant bird's grasp to no avail, its grip was firm and unwilling to release. From where she was in its claws she could barely see the tip of the tail feathers. Ruby decided it would be useless to scream for help, as everyone was inside for classes. Gunshots! Gunshots are louder than screams! Ruby thought. She reached her arm around as much as she could, slowly inching her fingers to Crescent Rose's release switch. Just a little more... Got it! As Ruby grasped the handle and hit the release switch on Crescent Rose, the weapon unfolded into its scythe form, pushing against the bird's claws. The barrel of the built in sniper was pointed straight up at the creature.
Professor Port had still been rambling on about his youth, as if he had been reading his memoirs to the classroom. The professor suddenly stopped when a rather peculiar sound was heard. "What in the blazes is that sound?" Professor Port asked. Weiss looked at Blake "Sounds like someone outside is practicing their shooting doesn't it?" Weiss asked Blake.
"They're firing pretty irregularly for just target practice. And it's in the middle of class…" Blake replied.
Yang woke up hearing the noise, "Jeez is someone throwing a party outside?" She looked around the classroom. "Hey um guys where's Rubes?" Blake's eyes went wide when she realized what the sound was. "It must be Ruby outside!"
Yang was the first to stand up, her eyes took a shade of red "Let's go! She might be in trouble." Team RWBY minus their leader excused themselves from the classroom and went outside, and then ran towards the source of the gunshots from earlier.
At this point the bird had been flying over the emerald forest, with Ruby still in its claw. It hadn't even flinched from the sniper rounds Ruby unloaded into its chest and abdominal area a moment earlier. "How?! No! Let me go you big birdie!" She tried to use Crescent Rose to break free of the claw to no avail, as the sniper magazine was empty, she couldn't shoot. To top it off, she didn't have that much room to swing the scythe. Ruby continued to struggle, trying to break free. The bird in response tightened his grip on her a little, rubbing in the fact that struggling was useless.
What the hell is this thing?! I need to get out of this and fast! Ruby held on tight to Crescent Rose and started to swing it above her head, trying to hit the leg or the knuckles of the bird to make it let go. Every time she swung at the bird it hit, but the beast's grip was still strong and unwavering. The bird's other claw grabbed at her scythe and ripped it out of her hand and dropped from the beast's claw.
"Nooo!" Ruby shrieked. Her precious Crescent Rose had been ripped right from her hands, and all she could do was watch as the weapon was plummeted down into the emerald forest and disappeared below the tree line. Ruby had started sobbing, her Crescent Rose now gone, probably broken from the impact with the forest ground.
A couple minutes had passed and Ruby's sobbing had slowed. She heard the sound of Yang's Ember Celicas firing. She looked up behind the bird to see Yang approaching. Flying in the air towards her.
Yang was using her Ember Celicas to try and keep her momentum. Just as it seemed Yang was about to fall a large glyph appeared beneath her and she jumped off of it. With that final jump, Yang reached out and grabbed onto the bird's right ankle, right above Ruby. "Yang..." Ruby said.
Ruby could see how angry her sister was, her hair had already been flaming because of her semblance. She cocked back the shotgun of her Ember Celica; her fiery red eyes now looked up at the bird. "Let go of my little sis!" She screamed out. She blasted her Ember Celica continuously into the bird's abdomen area. Ruby knew it wouldn't do anything, but she just watched Yang, who kept on going. The bird, seemingly annoyed by this began to flap harder. It took Ruby just a second to know what the bird was about to do.
"Yang! Hold on!" Ruby screamed. The bird suddenly did a quarter roll to the right while keeping its claw firmly around Ruby. From there she could see Yang just barely holding on. "Yang! Grab my hand!". Yang reached out and grabbed Ruby's forearm with a strong grip, she then let go of the bird's leg and hung from Ruby's arm and grinned at her.
"Yang?" Ruby said.
"Make sure you hold on to me tight and don't panic" she said. Yang started to swing back and forth, then with a swift strong movement, she swung a hard punch to the bird's ankle. The bird made a noise in response to the strike and let go of Ruby, letting the two sisters fall. "Yang, we're falling!" Ruby shouted as the wind was blasting in her face.
"Don't worry Rubes it's all part of the plan." Yang smiled "Just get ready to land".
"On what?" Ruby asked semi-panicked.
Ruby saw a large black glyph appeared beneath them. Weiss, you're a life saver. The two sisters landed on the glyph which in return sent them launching up towards the top of the cliff. As they started to reach their apex of their short flight, more glyphs appeared beneath their feet and acted as a bridge between them and the clifftop as they made their way to safety.
Ruby and Yang had finally made it to the clifftop. Blake had just arrived as she went to alert Ozpin about the situation. Weiss was in her stance holding up the last remaining glyph for a few more seconds then let her arms drop to her side from exhaust once the two sisters were safe.
Weiss sheathed her rapier. "I hope you two know that was not easy to pull off, not to mention tiring. But I am glad you're both alright."
Blake stepped forward. "Ruby what happened?"
Ruby looked down with a saddened look. "It's a long story..."
Sly adjusted himself in his seat. After the events of earlier in the day he couldn't sit down comfortably for too long "Anything yet Bentley?"
Bentley was furiously typing at his laptop, his stare didn't leave the screen that was illuminated before him. "Not yet... but I've found a trail of broken or damaged cameras so I'm hoping to use that to predict where he'll be."
Sly put his hands in his face, then he let his hands hang as he rested his forearms on his thighs. "It's all my fault... I should've known"
Bentley stopped typing and looked at Sly but kept his laptop screen where he could see it. "It's not your fault Sly, no one could've known for sure that he had planned that far ahead." Bentley looked back at his screen then back to Sly. "We've beat him twice before, we can surely do it a third time."
"He won't repeat the same mistakes twice... it's not going to be easy" Sly chuckled lightly, trying to lighten up the mood for the team and himself. He looked over to the couch where Murray lie asleep, snoring loudly as usual. "You haven't told him yet, have you?"
Bentley paused. "No, I figured I'd let him sleep and then tell him when he's awake. If I had told him before he wouldn't be sleeping so peacefully; and we need Murray well rested."
"True enough, without him we have no manpower"
A half hour had passed by slowly. Murray had woken up from his empowering slumber and Sly had explained the situation to him. After hearing the news, Murray looked down at the ground. "I won't lie Sly... I am scared..." Then Murray looked up to Sly, with fire in his eyes. Still sitting down he flexed his arms downwards around his chest. "But 'The Murray' is never afraid!" He shouted so loud that Sly thought for sure all of Paris had heard it.
Sly couldn't help but smile at Murray's enthusiasm. "I'm glad to hear it"
"Sly! Murray! I've got him!" Bentley yelled.
Murray got up, full of energy. "I'll get the van started!" He ran down the stairs to the garage where the Gang's van waited for him.
Sly ran over to Bentley who was frantically grabbing his many gadgets, obviously nervous about the current situation.
As Bentley grabbed a last handful of things he turns his attention to Sly "I've got everything I need, I'll go map out the shortest route for Murray then we're ready to go!" Bentley put away his gadgets and devices into his wheelchair compartments. "See you downstairs Sly!" He went over to the stairs, using the robotic arms built into the chair to get down the stairs almost as fast as Murray.
Sly walked into the room and took a few steps towards a glass case in the center of the room. He leaned his cane against the wall, slowly opened the glass case and took out the book inside. Sly opened the Thievius Raccoonus and looked at a couple of the entries in the ancient book. The Thievius Raccoonus was the family treasure, a book containing all their sneaking and stealing secrets. There were entries as old as Ancient Egypt from Slytunkhamen Cooper I, the medieval times from Sir Galleth Cooper, and what would've been the most recent entry, Sly's father.
He closed the book and looked at it for a moment. "Wish me luck dad" Sly put the family book in his spare backpack, he always had a couple backpacks at the hideout just in case one got damaged. He grabbed his cane and headed downstairs where Murray and Bentley had just finished prepping the van.
Weiss crossed her arms and looked at Ruby. "So let me get this straight. You saw snow outside, so you decided to leave the classroom. Then on the roof you somehow didn't notice a Nevermore that was close enough to come down and scoop you up."
Ruby rubbed the back of her head. "Yeah that's pretty much what happened... When I was on the roof I didn't hear wings flapping, it was just really quiet and then it got me by surprise" Ruby looked down at the ground "... and it threw Crescent Rose into the forest" Ruby's sadness was plainly visible in her eyes.
Yang placed her hand on her little sister's shoulder to comfort her. "Don't worry Sis. We'll go talk to Ozpin, let him know what happened then we'll come right back looking for it. We'll find it I promise"
Ruby rubbed her eyes to stop any tears from flowing out. "Okay..." she slowly got up as they all headed towards the headmaster's office.
The van came to a stop, the snow outside still came down in a heavy thick blanket. Bentley rolled towards the front of the van. He had cleaned out the back area of the van so he could install many of his devices and computers. He looked at Sly in the passenger seat and handed him what looked like a disc formed piece of metal. It was just as big as a DVD disc but much thicker. "The 2nd copy of the device that I made, if he uses the 1st to go over you have to follow him. Then from there you could find a secluded spot to bring us through.
"Alright, I'll be back" Sly got out of the van and made his way onto a radio tower, looking for the massive bird. Then, out of the snow, small glowing purples orbs we're speeding towards Sly.
Sly jumped off the tower as soon as he saw them. He knows I'm here. Sly thought. He opened his para glider so he could get some distance between him and the tower. As he turned his head he saw the purple orbs implode then explode violently on the radio tower, making it topple over like a broken kid's toy. Then he saw two red glows behind the falling tower.
"Right where I wanted you Cooper" The cold, soulless voice resonated in the area. Sly saw the red glowing dots move, then he heard a sharp flapping sound, then again but closer. The flapping sound stopped when he looked up and saw the claws rip 3 big holes into the para glider.
Sly started falling towards the ground, nothing beneath him to break his fall. He glanced at the disc like device in his hand and decided to use it. Bentley this better work! Sly pressed the button in the center and the area around him began to glow brightly. As the ground approached the glow got brighter and brighter until Sly couldn't see.
When the light faded away, Sly was face first on grass, surrounded by trees in every direction. He got up slowly and looked at his cane and his hat on the ground. On Sly's hat the last remaining snowflake was melting. "I must've been knocked out for a while if all the snow melted..." Sly looked around at the trees surrounding him, then up at the blue sky.
Then he saw the same bird, carrying something red in its claw, I've got to get out of here before he sees me again. Looking down he saw the disc like device. At least I got this so I can bring Bentley and Murray here. As he leaned over to grab the device he heard a girl's scream. Looking up he had just enough time to dodge a big red scythe falling from the sky. The scythe had landed by stabbing the ground not harming its frame, but in doing so it shattered the disc like device it landed on.
"This just isn't my day" Sly pinched the bridge of his nose.
And done! I have to say that I'm really happy I was able to upload this in my scheduled time :) I will try my best as always to upload a chapter every 1-2 weeks (or at least 2 chapters per month minimum). This chapter was both difficult and fun to write, but it is a learning process and I'm trying my best to improve every time.
Also! I realized this about 2 days after I released chapter 1, but this is the first Sly Cooper - RWBY crossover to ever be published on which is really cool! :D
Anyways enough of me hyping. I hope you enjoyed chapter 2. Please leave a review, any comments, pointers, or suggestions helps a lot!
I'll see you all in chapter 3 :)
