Sly RWBY - Ch5

I know some of you found the last chapter a little short, I am aware and trying to write longer chapters. So I'll be working on trying to deliver more with each chapter and I'll also do my best to publish new chapters at a faster rate.

I'm also thinking I might start another fanfic, a pure RWBY one. As for what kind, I'm not sure yet but I'll probably brainstorm some ideas for that in the near future

Anyways, here's chapter 5, I hope you enjoy! :)

Sly watched the two sisters walk away as he hid in plain sight. Sly had used his ancestor's Slytunkhamen's shadow power technique to become invisible. He liked how friendly Ruby was, but sly didn't want to take any chances with other people yet.

Sly slowly moved away from the open field and back into the forest. His cane in hand, he moved closer to a tall tree, unhid himself and started climbing up.

Once he reached a large branch he sat on it and leaned against the trunk. He hung his knapsack on a nearby branch and began searching the contents. "Two sleep darts, three trigger bombs, four granola bars, the Thievius Raccoonus. Not much here I can use to get a hold of Bentley... Damn." Sly rubbed the back of his head as he tried to think of a solution. After thinking up various different plans and scenarios Sly's stomach growled. He hadn't eaten anything since he got here. "I guess I can treat myself to some food." Sly looked at the four granola bars in front of him. "Two for now, worse comes to worse I can steal some food from the local markets."

Sly ate two granola bars with satisfaction as he put away his belongings back into his bag. Once the granola bars were gone and his knapsack packed he slung the bag on his back and held his cane in hand as he jumped down the tree, rolling as he landed. He started walking in the same direction of the two sisters, fully aware of his surroundings.

"Alright Murray, do you have everything ready?" Bentley asked.

"Fighting gloves, check, shoes tied, check, food for hungry stomach, ate it," Murray exclaimed.

"Alright starting launching sequence." Bentley pressed a bunch of buttons on the dash of the Cooper gang's van in sequence, the motor of the van hummed louder as electronic sounds began to emanate from the large console in the back of the van.

Bentley looked over to Murray, his hand was on an ignition switch. "Ready?"

"The Murray is always ready for anything!" His hands gripped the wheel tightly as he revved the engine of the team van.

Bentley looked forward at the open road ahead of them. "Let's go join Sly."

With those words, Murray put the petal to the metal. The van lunged forward, surprisingly fast for a van of its kind. As the van poked up speed, an electronic humming was getting louder every second in the back of the van.

Murray had been keeping the van straight and watched the speedometer. "Eighty six, eighty seven, eighty eight! Punch it!"

Bentley flipped the ignition switch he had been holding onto. The area in front of the van glowed blue and then there was a flash of white. The van had disappeared, leaving a trail of fire where the tires had been rolling in the snow.

Sly reared back to avoid the shadowy wolf's claw and tried to deal damage with his cane. The wolf flinched once when the cane was smacked across its face. It swiped forward again, Sly had seen this coming, he dodged backwards then readied for another attack. Sly took a good long stare into the beast's glowing red eyes. Then, there was a flash of white.

Sly had to close his eyes from the intensity of the flash, when he opened his eyes, all Sly was able to do is chuckle. "I could've handled him you know," he said with a smile.

Bentley got out of the passenger seat of the van and looked at Sly. "Good to see you in one piece."

"Likewise." Sly looked at the now fading shadow wolf. "Can't say the same for our friend you just high fived with the van."

Bentley looked over to the immobile shadow beast and shivered. "Creepy..." Bentley readjusted his glasses. "What is it?"

"Not sure, it's like a weird shadow wolf, and it's not the only one. When I got here I encountered three of them."

Bentley looked surprised. "Well if you managed to fight off three on your own we'll be able to hold out together until we make a hideout."

"We should make a Cooper cave!" Murray shouted as he got out of the driver's seat.

Sly chuckled "If we can find a safe cave then sure." He looked at the both of them. "Alright so first we find a hideout, then what?"

"After that we track 'him' down," Bentley stated.

"Yeah... I think he's already attacked some of the locals, I saw him flying around earlier." Sly looked at the sky out of reflex.

"Then it's best if we get a move on, the longer we go unnoticed the better," Bentley said as he got into the team van, "there's a cave not too far from here, we could check it out."

"Motor hot!" Murray said as the van's engine came to life.

Sly looked at the sky for a little longer then shook his head, breaking his train of thought. He walked over to the van and got in. "Alright, let's go!"

Yang and Ruby had been walking for a short while, Beacon's campus now in sight.

Yang looked over to Ruby who had been playing with a blue and white card of some sort. "Hey sis whatcha got there?"

"Oh this?" She motioned to the paper in her hand. "I ummm... Found it next to Crescent Rose! I thought it was cool so I thought I'd keep it" Ruby smiled brightly, hoping that Yang wouldn't see through her lie.

"You found that in the middle of the forest? Just on the ground like that?" Yang observed the clean paper card in Ruby's hand, she knew that it couldn't have been in the forest just like that. "Or maybe a guy gave that to you?" She said in a playful tone and winked.

Ruby's eyes went wide. Busted! "How did you know?" She looked at Yang.

"Wait whoa sis I was just joking. It's actually a guy that gave that to you?" Yang looked surprised.

Ruby pondered her answer but couldn't come up with anything. "Ummm yeah it was. He was really nice and friendly too..." Ruby was cut off by her older sister.

"Wait. You don't even know the guy?" Her face looked serious.

"Well I met him today, his name is Sly, and like I said he was really nice and friendly. Plus he was the one who found Crescent Rose." Ruby looked at her older sister as if wanting approval.

"Rubes, I get that this guy may seem nice and friendly, but this world is filled with people who seem really nice, but in the end they only care about themselves." Yang looked at Ruby with worried eyes.

"Would you be able to tell if you met him?"

"Maybe, but I'll at least be able to tell what kind of person he is. So until I meet him I want you to be careful Rubes."

Ruby smiles and chuckled "Yang you worry too much. After all, I am a huntress in training!" She posed in multiple martial arts stances, "hooowaaaaaaaaahhhh!"

Yang rustled her little sister's hair and chuckled at Ruby's little martial arts show. "It's my job to worry for you. Because I love you."

The two sisters walked through beacon's campus talking about random things. How many cookies Yang thinks she could make Ruby eat, how many brick walls Yang thinks she could break with one punch, if Ruby could eat chocolate chip cookies after finding that was actually oatmeal and raisin. They eventually made it to the elevator to Ozpin's office.

"Blake and Weiss are already up there waiting for us, try and think about how you want to explain all this to Ozpin alright?" Yang put a hand on Ruby's shoulder.

"Okay." Ruby pondered and tried to remember every detail of the event.

General Ironwood paced the room, obviously not in a good mood. "Ozpin! We need to take this thing down!"

Headmaster Ozpin took a dip of coffee from his mug and looked at the general calmly. "General I understand your concern, but a large military presence such as the entire Atlas military force won't benefit us in this situation."

"It's destroyed three military outposts, each of them with no survivors remaining..."

"I understand that, but we've never fought a Grimm with that much resilience and destructive capabilities. It would be wise if we knew what we were up against."

"None of my scouts have been able to find it. Every time they get a visual they either lose it or get shot down."

Ozpin took another sip from his cup. "The situation is rather grim, no pun intended. But I don't think we should attack with full force until we know more about this beast." Ozpin looked towards his office door as he heard the knocking. "Come in." He called out and looked over to the general. "We will finish this discussion another time general."

Ironwood frowned, turned to Ozpin's office doors and walked out right past the four girls.

"Team RWBY, it is nice to see you all safe. Please, have a seat," Ozpin motioned to the chairs in front of his desk.

Team RWBY all sat in the chairs in front of Ozpin's desk. "So, miss Schnee informed me that there was an incident mid class, and that you miss Rose were the victim." He took a sip from his cup. "What can you tell me about this incident?" Ozpin looked at Ruby with a serious but gentle look.

Ruby cleared her throat. "Well I was in class and looked out the window. I saw snow so I thought it was Cardin and his buddies playing a prank so I went to check it out."

"So you skipped class?" Ozpin asked nicely with the same look on his face.

Ruby looked down. "Yes I did... Sorry it won't happen again..."

Ozpin smiled, "it's fine Miss Rose I can let it slide. Please, continue."

Ruby's worry relaxed, "once I got on the roof there was no one there, and there was no wet spots from the snow. From there I just assumed that my eyes played tricks on me, that's when this big bird-like thing flew down and picked me up. I'm not sure if it was just a really big birdie or some weird kind of Grimm."

"It was much bigger than a nevermore and it wasn't black, it was like a sort of metallic grey color," Yang added.

Ozpin set down his cup. "I see, Miss Schnee, Miss Belladonna, did one of you encounter or see this beast?"

"I'm afraid we didn't, by the time we saw it, it was too far to get any details on its aesthetics" Weiss stated.

Blake looked at Weiss then Ozpin. "Weiss helped Yang get close enough to Ruby to help and I watched Weiss' back in case more Grimm showed up. I didn't get a good look at it either."

"I see. Well I'm glad you're all alright." Ozpin stood up from his desk chair. "If that is all you may return to your studies, I will speak to the general about this 'beast'."

"Thank you for having us Headmaster," Weiss stood and bowed slightly as she got up. The rest of team RWBY said their thanks and left all together.

Ozpin sat back down at his seat and contacted the general from his computer screen. Ironwood answered, "Headmaster Ozpin, I was not expecting to hear from you so soon."

"When you have the chance General, I have more information on our 'problem' and I believe we should formulate a plan sooner rather than later." Ozpin said calmly.

"I'll be there soon, Ironwood out," the signal stopped. Ozpin got up from his chair and looked out his office widow that looked over Beacon Academy's campus. "Metallic grey..." He pondered calmly.

It was night time at a military outpost not far from Vale's outer walls. Sentries patrolled the perimeter and checked the defence systems and scanners.

A guard walked into the barracks returning from a perimeter check. He walked up to another guard and poked his shoulder to wake him up. "Hey Mike!"

The soldier awoke from his short lived beauty sleep. "Oh hey Scott, my turn already?" He asked as he rubbed his eyes awake.

"Yeah bud, that was my last perimeter check for the night. You've got one more then you can catch up on your sleep, princess," Scott joked.

"Alright! Alright! I'm going. It won't take long anyways." Mike got up, grabbed his gear and headed out to do his perimeter check.

He looked out towards the darkening sky. "Another day another dollar," he said to himself. His train of thought was broken as a large shadow passed over the military base. "What the hell?" As he looked into the sky he saw a large bird, bigger than anything he's ever seen, its red eyes stared right at him as the bird hovered there as it flapped its massive wings. Mike slowly reached for his communicator. "This is Mike, code red, I repeat..." He stopped as the bird's shoulders started to flow a purplish color at two spots. "CODE RED I REPEAT CODE RED!" The platform Mike stood on exploded into a large purple ball of energy and flame, there was nothing left but rubble and fire.

The other patrolling soldiers and those that were in the barracks got out as soon as they heard the noise. They all fired at the massive bird in unison, bullets were bouncing off it as if its skin was armour. One of the guards got into the anti air cannon on the other side and aimed for the beast. Once he got the cannon turned around it was already too late, a purple ball of energy had already reached the cannon and then detonated both the guard and the cannon.

"FALLBACK" was what resonated throughout the base. As the soldiers tried to escape, the bird picked them off one group at a time. Screams of pain, fear and death flooded the military outpost.

Those sounds were followed by a cold deep mechanical laugh. "Hahahaha..." The bird gloated. "Fear me, fear my wrath! Fear the name, Clockwerk!"

I hope you enjoyed the chapter, took me a little while to write it but it is the longest chapter in this fanfic thus far. Let me know if you prefer longer chapters like these or a little shorter and more frequent.

Thank you in advance to those who take the time to leave a review on my chapters :) it does mean a lot to me and keeps me going.

Thanks for reading! I'll talk to you in the next chapter
