"Elmer, when are we going to see you inside the church?"

"I don't know, Sister, but it's bound to rain sooner or later!"

Elmer grinned and laughed along with his friends, but he saw the look cross the Sister's face. It was the same look he'd seen numerous times when he was an altar boy.

In truth, he missed those days. He missed when there were people who cared about him enough to reprimand him for doing things like stealing communion wine or splashing his friends with the baptismal water. Now he could stay out all night and no one would think anything of it. He could be lying dead in an alley, and he wasn't entirely sure his friends would notice right away.
