Prompted with: "It's six o'clock in the morning, you're not having vodka"

There it was, like clockwork. A shrill, irritating beep right outside their bedroom door, rousing Stef out of her sleep before the sun even had come up.

"Argh!" she cried out, flipping over onto her stomach and covering her head with her pillow.

The thud of her body against the mattress jolted her wife from her slumber.

"Sshhh," Lena hushed her. She didn't have to open her eyes to know that it was way too early to be awake. Her eyelids still heavy, it was a matter of seconds before she was almost asleep again… until she heard it too.

Beep.

"Stef!" she grumbled, nudging her wife square in the ribs. "You told me you'd fixed the alarm!"

"I did!" came Stef's muffled reply. She lifted the pillow to expose her face, her eyes squinting at Lena through the darkness. "I checked the wiring and I changed the batteries again yesterday."

Beep.

"Then why is it still beeping?"

Lena's forehead creased into a frown, but she still refused to open her eyes.

"I must have missed something. I'll check it again today," Stef promised.

"Or we could just buy a new one," Lena said.

Beep.

"We don't need a new one," Stef objected. "It's only a month old. I'll fix it."

"Huh," Lena murmured, disbelievingly.

"Hey! I can fix it," Stef said.

Beep.

Lena caved and slowly opened her eyes, rolling on to her right side to face her wife. "Honey, I love you, but you're terrible at fixing electrics," she said gently.

Stef opened her mouth to object, but even without any light in the room she could feel Lena's cynical glare on her. She huffed in defeat. "Fine. We'll buy a new one. I'll go take out the battery."

She shifted her weight towards the edge of the mattress but before she had time to get out of bed, Lena grabbed her arm.

"Don't. You'll wake the kids and the twins have their first exam tomorrow," Lena said.

Beep.

Stef grunted. "But how are we gonna sleep?" she questioned selfishly. "Maybe we can drink through it. There's a bottle of vodka in the freezer…"

"It's six o'clock in the morning, you're not having vodka," Lena admonished.

She rolled onto her back and stretched her arms out invitingly. Stef didn't hesitate before she crawled into them and they shuffled around until their bodies molded together. Stef rested her head on Lena's chest and slipped an arm around her waist, while Lena kissed the stop of her head affectionately.

Beep.

Stef felt her body relax immediately. She pushed her nose into the crook of Lena's neck and inhaled deeply, the natural scent of her wife's skin making her drowsy.

"Honey, while you're at the hardware store, can you get some more picture hooks?" Lena asked. "I want to put up some photos from Callie's adoption."

"Hmm."

"And If I give you a memory stick with the photos on, will you get them printed while you're in town?" She waited for a reply that never came. "Stef?"

Stef's only response was a soft snore, which made Lena smile. She sank her body deeper into the soft mattress. A slither of moonlight hit the ceiling through a small crack in the curtains and she stared at it, hoping sleep would come to her as easily as it had to her wife.

Beep.
