Chapter Nineteen: Dagomon's Counterattack Pt. 5
No one could claim they weren't expecting the Japanese Self Defense Force to arrive within the first five minutes of the battle. Odds were they were the only human life in any of the bay areas. Their purpose as not only to help with emergency aid but also to combat the countless Digimon that had been making their presence known in the last few weeks. While their reaction speed was superb their efficiency in combating the digital monsters was usually less than stellar. That didn't stop them from trying. Nor did it stop them from taking aim at the DigiDestined.
The pack of WaruSeadramon wasted no time in blasting the entire area with lightning; violet bolts tearing through the ground like a child throwing a tantrum. From the swirling whirlpools emerged pairs upon pairs of Megadramon and Gigadramon, red DigiCode burning bright over on their bodies. Ebidramon crawled over the water banks into the land or zoomed towards the battleships making their way into the bay. While a shell or two may have hit one it didn't slow them down for long. The offending ships were properly sunk not a full minute later either due to torpedoes from the Divermon or swift claw smashes of the Ebidramon.
In the short time span the JSDF had arrived they had been all but totally annihilated, would have been annihilated if it weren't for the Chosen Children and their Digimon scrambling to save as many lives as possible. That wasn't easy given they were vastly outnumbered.
The silver-blue object jetting across the sky raining frozen deletion on everything below it was MetalGarurumon and Matt, tightly gripping his partner as not to fall off. Every port and hatch on the wolf's body was open releasing warheads carrying enough power to flash freeze whoever or whatever they impacted. Flying up he reared his head back then let loose with his Metal Wolf Claw releasing a stream of sub-zero flames over the water. The artic flame thrower froze both the water and the Digimon in it: Divermon, Ebidramon, and Scorpiomon. Rearing up the WaruSeadramon blasted the cyborg wolf with lightning only to find he'd already moved on to his hit and run tactics.
Hitting the sea serpents was much harder than the smaller aquatic Digimon in the bay. They twisted and squirmed out of the way just narrowly avoiding the missiles.
While the cyborg wolf was unable to thoroughly pin down the viral monsters a certain dragon man equipped with Dramon Killers was having a field day.
WarGreymon was burning with an aura of fire courtesy of the willpower of his partner. Spreading his arms out wide he channeled the power into his prized Dramon Killers then let loose a might war cry. Launching himself through the air swinging wildly the WaruSeadramon all snapped at the tiny orange and yellow bleep moving towards them. It was the last mistake many of them made as WarGreymon's claws tore through their flesh like a knife through butter. Like his best friend Tai held onto his partner for dear life as he made swift work of the horde of Digimon. Even with his eyes closed he could hear the feral roars of the WaruSeadramon sending a slight shiver down his spine that was only warmed by the warmth of WarGreymon.
"Thunder Javelin!" A single WaruSeadramon cried followed by its brethren.
Directing his voice towards his partner WarGreymon reached for his Brave Shield. "Tai close your eyes and don't move!"
He didn't need to be told that. He had every ounce of confidence in his partner's ability to protect him and that factored into WarGreymon's Brave Shield. The Crest of Courage burned bright like the sun it was modeled after creating a force field of orange-red light around them. Deflecting off the barrier the lightning boiled the water creating a cloud of steam around WarGreymon.
Knowing their attack had failed the WaruSeadramon raised their heads. "Thunder Blade!" Collectively they all brought their blades down or towards WarGreymon betting on the Mega's shield not being strong enough to deflect all their attacks.
Resounding clings went off that was followed by the sound of metal breaking apart. Staring in shocked terror the WaruSeadramon watched the shield fall revealing WarGreymon, gauntlets stretched out.
"Ultra Tornado!"
Spinning at a speed that made their eyes dizzy the Mega summoned up a fiery tornado that engulfed the horde of sea serpents. They shrieked and howled as all the moisture on their skin was burned away followed by their actual violet colored skin. Once the tornado of flames faded away WarGreymon continued his path of destruction towards the WaruSeadramon harassing the Self Defense Force ships.
Dark whirlpools had formed in the middle of the bay dragging down whatever ship got too close or wasn't fast enough to escape. Others had icicles impaled through their haul causing them to sink while their crew made a mad dash for the life boats or were forced to jump ship. A handful of WaruSeadramon didn't even bother using their powers, they simply swam under the ships then locked their jaws around them like a snake would devour its prey. Lifted high into the air by the viral sea serpents they were either crushed or were thrown through the sky much to the horror of those watching the battle.
Sweeping through the darken clouds were two winged beasts that had those on the ground and on ships believing they were hallucinating. A winged Pegasus and a sphinx where darting through the air, the Pegasus releasing burning stars from its wings that hit with the force of missiles and the sphinx's eyes blazed with a pink light before shooting out into focused lasers that cut through water, flesh, and steel alike. The two divine beasts were too fast and too nimble for the WaruSeadramon to shoot down though the Gigadramon and Megadramon blasting everything that moved had little difficulty locking onto the two with their cybernetically enhanced eyes. Forced to dodge the smiling and snarling missiles heading towards them Pegasusmon and Nefertimon raced through the bay and into the buildings where the tight corners and skyscrapers took the brunt of the mechanized dragons' attacks. Pieces of metal and glass rained over the backs of the bearers of the Crests of Light and Hope.
T.K. kept his eyes buried in Pegasusmon's mane. If it were any other time he'd be moaning about the amount of damage they were doing to Odawara but this was different. Feeling the rush of air whistle past him as the rain pelted his body made him shiver in fear.
"Nefertimon we're going to have to split up!" Pegasusmon called out pulling a sharp turn that their pursuing Megadramon wasn't able to make. Pushing itself out of the building it roared it fury at the retreating winged Digimon. "Take out as many of them as you can!"
Explosions went off around them forcing Pegasusmon upward where three Megadramon were waiting for him with their claws open. "Genocide Attack!"
"Equus Beam!"
The bright green beam split each missile apart though in their place came each Megadramon opening its claw wide for its Guilty Claw attack.
"T.K.!" Pegasusmon cried bracing his body.
Just as Tai had done T.K. had the utmost faith in his partner and that carried over into the emerald glow around him. Tucking his swings inward the light built around the feathery limps until they were beacons shining in the stormy sky. "Star Shower!"
Exploding from every direction was an explosive star with enough force to send the Ultimate level dragons sailing backward.
Elsewhere Kari was doing her best not to look down at the terrified masses below them or the fleet viral beats behind them. Half of the fleet had stopped carrying about killing her and instead just began firing in random directions, anywhere that would create chaos or cause a panic. Below the people shrieked and bolted for cover from the flying creatures battling it out above them.
Appealed Nefertimon ceased her running to fly directly through the fleet of Megadramon and Gigadramon blasting away. "Rosetta Stone!" Firing off mythical tablets while slashing her claws Nefertimon surprised everyone, including her partner with the level of ferocity in her attack.
Surpassing the ferocity of the white armored Digimon was Garudamon. Disgust and rage boiled in her eyes as she swung her flaming fist through the viral flyers. Looking on in her on her shoulder was Sora who could just watch the flames slowly spread over the City of Yokohama. The infernos were whipped up by the increasing gale force winds that were setting in.
As Garudamon continued to fight off the dozens of viral Digimon assaulting her one of the Gigadramon stood off to the distance with its claws stretched out. Chatting it called a few of the Megadramon to its side who then joined it in its chat. They transformed into red orbs of light that merged with the Gigadramon. The sound of gears turning as well as metal gridding against metal could be heard.
Spotting it Sora grabbed her partner's attention. Crushing the Gigadramon in her hand Garudamon's eyes went slightly wide at what she saw emerged from the red sphere.
The Machinedramon was covered in the same red DigiCode all the other invading Digimon were. "Giga Cannon!" it barked.
Barely dodging the blast Gaurudamon was forced to fall back as with the appearance of the Machinedramon the other machine dragon Digimon fell into rank. Opening all their cannons a hailstorm of fire rained down onto the crimson bird forcing her into the ground. Crashing to the ground with a thunderous cry Garudamon knew she only had a limited time to get up and get Sora out of danger before the machines continued their attack.
"Terra Tornado!"
Both looked up to see a yellow tornado tearing its way through the fleet before stopping to reveal WarGreymon, his body covered in the oil of the machine Digimon he just tore through. On his back Tai turned his head to meet Garudamon eye to eye. Reading his expression she grabbed Sora, placed her on her shoulder then began gathering energy.
Machinedramon took aim at the Dragon Man expect he was no longer standing in front of him. Using his superior speed WarGreymon maneuvered the cybernetic dragon and with a roar drove his foot direction into its back sending it sailing towards Garudamon.
Spreading out her wings Garudamon roared, "Wing Blade!" Releasing her strongest attack she watched it zoom towards the possessed Digimon. Behind him WarGreymon released a Terra Force.
An explosions of flames and light lit up the space in front of the Yokohama Marine Tower. The short lived victory followed by a purple bolt of lightning striking said tower, turning it into a giant burning candle. Flying up the two were shocked to see the WaruSeadramon had lined up forming attack lines. Purple and black lightning was bursting from horns sailing through the air, growing in size as they slammed into the buildings of Yokohama. The impacts were less lightning strikes and more like focused artillery.
Slightly bug eyed Tai commanded them forward. "Please don't tell me Dagomon's been playing Command & Conquer"
"By this point I wouldn't put it past him." Sora meekly replied.
No matter how much he wished it Tai couldn't jump over and wrap his arms around the auburn haired girl. While he wanted to keep her by his side he knew she could take care of herself and he had to focus on the battle raging over Yokohama.
Smashing through the ground level and showers were the hordes of Ebidramon and Scorpiomon. Thanks to the rising sea level they were the invading marine Digimon were perfectly at home bringing down every structure by attacking the foundations. With their glittering steel claws every person and everything that stood in their way was slashed to pieces.
Those JSDF forces that were gradually falling back as the water grew higher and higher broke into a full blown retreat when the sound of sharp claws slicing through steel hit their ears. Jumping out of the water right into the middle of the fleeing masses were Ebidramon performing their dreaded Lobster Step attack.
Screaming in terror some stopped running, already accepting the fact death was upon them while others continued running as fast as their legs could carry them.
Flashing through the skies were streaks of bright blue lightning that suddenly dropped into the water, frying all the viral marine Digimon like fish on a grill. Breaking apart into data as the blue blur jumped through the water a bestial roar rung through the flooded streets.
Stopping on top a skyscraper the lightning fell away to reveal a positively angry Raidramon with an equally pissed off Davis riding him with Chiyo tightly gripping his waist. Raising his horn to the sky the lightning came at his beck then pierced the water like a javelin. The shapes of the Ebidramon, Divermon, Scorpiomon, and other marine Digimon could be made out in the water until they disappeared into clumps of corrupted data.
A single Ebidramon with a shell thicker than the others jetted itself out of the water towards them. "Twin Scissor!"
Snarling Raidramon avoided the attack in a flash of lightning then encased himself an aura of cackling electricity "Blue Thunder!" One minute Ebidramon was preparing for Raidramon's attack and the next he was being gut checked over the edge while his belly screamed in absolute pain.
For e brief moment Raidramon took the time to catch his breath while his partner and Chiyo did the same. Even if he was super charged with the power of nature he still ahd to cool himself down in order to control it.
Said power fueled his senses; snapping his head up her prepared to move but the building they were go gave out before he could. A long slithery purple body rose up from the crumbling structure followed by a pair of red eyes glaring down on them.
"Thunder Blade!"
"Blue Thunder!"
The collision knocked Davis and Chiyo from Raidramon's back leaving them free falling through the rumble into the growing water.
Out of the corner T.K. urged Pegasusmon to move faster. Seeing the dirty blond Davis eased his grip on Chiyo before pushing her away so T.K. could catch her. Both their faces widened in horror as Davis continued plummeting towards the water as his partner went at it with the demonic sea serpent.
Upon hitting the water Davis felt countless icy cold hands grab at every part of his body. Flashes of light broke through his vision. Swimming towards the surface he was able to see Pegasusmon scanning the water for him. He never found out if he saw him as another wave swept him.
In his mind's eye Raidramon could just barely make out Davis's life signature; however, it was quickly being dragged away by the incoming tides. He didn't have time to keep locking horns with the WaruSeadramon. Breaking off and landing on an opened floor he began charging up a three ball of lightning. "Thunder Blast!" His blue thunder clashed with the deep violet of the WaruSeadramon. They pushed against each other for about a minute before Raidramon's blast pushed through and directly into WaruSeadramon's helmeted head.
Careful to avoid the touching the water he followed Davis's signature; fear slowly growing in his chest. Scenes and words of doubt rushed through his heart as the distance between them became further and further. Frantically calling his names his eyes kept focusing on Davis's slim form poking through the water.
Racing over the black armored Digimon was Pegasusmon carrying T.K. and Chiyo. By following Raidramon they spotted Davis's constantly disappearing form. Getting closer and closer Chiyo and T.K. reached out hoping they'd be able to reach him in time. Sensing the threat coming behind him she called out, "Davis get down!"
As she predicted the looming shadow revealed itself to be a Scorpiomon shocking the other three. Diving for Davis Raidramon and Pegasusmon didn't hesitant in firing. The infected Ultimate caught a searing blast of lightning on top of a green energy beam right in the fast.
Grabbing Davis's arm Chiyo hoisted him upwards before they transferred back to Raidramon's back. "We need to do something about those things in the bay." Davis managed to get out watching the lightning bolts blew holes in the city. "Where's Kari?"
"By the bridge with Yolei. Davis we need Imperialdramon but I don't know if Ken is-"
"We need to get him on his feet." The second Goggle head interrupted. "You got the city?"
"Yeah. Just don't do anything stupid." T.K. answered. Watching Raidramon disappear in a blue flash of lightning T.K. checked his Digivice to find they were about a second away from being surrounded.
True to his legend Submarimon was the fastest aquatic Digimon around as well as one of the toughest. The problem was even he was having trouble getting to the line of WaruSeadramon blasting the city with not just the black whirlpools swirling around them but also the miniature army of crustaceans guarding them. Not one of them could catch Submarimon though he wasn't able to create a sizable dent in wall that had been formed around the WaruSeadramon line. It was only the cover fire of MetalGarurumon on the surface that gave Submarimon and Cody any chance to punch a hole, no matter how small, in the attack line.
Making a full on charge for one of the sea serpents the Armored Digimon didn't notice the shifting black shape moving through the darkest depths of the water. Inside of his partner Cody felt the rough impact of a solid object slamming into Submarimon. He was launched out of the water into the open sky where they came back down onto the wet ground. As Submarimon began to de-Digivolve Cody pushed himself up right.
Noriko had him not a second later holstering him to his feet and Bearmon was doing the same to Armadillomon. Looming over the downed Rookie was an Ebidramon eying him much like a predator would its prey just before it moved in for the kill. Quickly throwing his yellow armored friend over his shoulder Bearmon performed a skilled evasion of the crab dragon's Twin Scissor's attack.
Still holding Armadillomon over his shoulder Bearmon used the surroundings to get above Ebidramon's head. "Karate Fist!" His attack did little more than annoy the crustacean. Pushing his head forward he knocked the two of them into the water.
"Let go of me and get the others to safety Bearmon!" Armadillomon begged watching Noriko struggle to carry Cody up a flight of stairs in a nearby warehouse.
Shaking his head the cap-wearing rookie stood before the Ebidramon. Unlike the first the time they'd met Bearmon wasn't trembling in fear at the monster before him. He stood fast against the red eyes glaring down on him. "I'm not going to leave you behind!"
Just beyond the showdown Noriko was pulling Cody along over his shoulder up a flight of stairs to get to the rooftop. She was no doctor but she could tell whatever had knocked Submarimon out of the water had also more than likely damaged Cody's ribs. His breathing was steadily becoming more rigid but he was still toughing it out. No matter what he said or ordered Noriko kept shaking her head at his order to get out of there.
"You expect me to leave you here to die? NO!" Grabbing him by the shoulders she looked him dead in the eye while the tide continued to rise around them. "Cody I don't care if both my legs are broken and I'm bleeding out, I am not going to leave you behind and I never will!"
Moments later the stairs they were standing on came apart followed by a tidal wave sweeping them away like flies. Cody reached out and caught Noriko's hand then pulled her close. If she wasn't going to let go then neither was he. With her face pressed tightly against his chest he was able to keep her from seeing the Ebidramon swimming towards them with its right claw pulled back. Gasping in horror he prepared for the end to come.
Two small forms broke the surface of the water. One was Bearmon and the other was Armadillomon. The former brought his paw down creating a small but still noticeable crack while the latter slammed into the Digimon's head at full force in ball form. Stunning him Bearmon swam for Cody and Noriko, grabbing their arms and pulling them towards the surface with Armadillomon in tow.
Dazed the two young DigiDestined stared at the storm clouds above as their world slowly came back into focus. They were at least on solid land which was good though the 'land' in question was nothing but small bridge that had yet to be destroyed. Standing protectively in front of them were their partners with the same Ebidramon, now sporting two cracks on its forehead before them.
Snarling in disgust at the two Rookies it lunged forward with Armadillomon meeting it as a sphere of data engulfed him. Meeting the craby dragon was Ankylomon in a blow for blow tug of war. A shadow loomed over the spot next them before much to their shock another Ebidramon came through, its jaws flying wide open as it came closer towards Bearmon, Cody, and Noriko.
Pushing Cody behind her Noriko spread both her arms out. Standing before his partner Bearmon did the same with a fire in his eyes.
"Twin Scissor!" The second Ebidramon screeched lunging at them with his claws.
Flashing for all but a minute Noriko's Digivice lit up like a candle; Bearmon glowed with the same light before it changed into a sphere of data. Ebidramon's claws stopped short as soon as they touched the sphere. A primal snarl started low then rose in fury. Two thick paws emerged holding Ebidramon's pincers at bay, soon the rest of the blue furred Digimon came through with a look of hate in his eyes.
Releasing a fierce roar Grizzlymon twisted one of the pincers away then drove his gloved fist right into the Ebidramon's face.
Name: Grizzlymon
Level: Champion
Attribute: Vaccine
Description: Though he may look ferocious and deadly Grizzlymon houses the soul of a true martial artists. While it may not be aggressive it'll fight back with every ounce of strength in its body once challenged. It fights with its unique "Kuma Tsume" using a style that turns the enemy's own strength against them.
Special Attacks: Maul Attack and Crescent Dawn
Jumping into the water the newly emerged Champion caught hold of the flawing marine Digimon then dragged it under. For a few tensions seconds it was impossible to tell what was happening then the pained screams were drowned out by the sound of shells cracking. Not too long afterwards Grizzlymon bursts through the water right beside Ankylomon. Together the two heavy weight Champions latched onto both of the Ebidramon's claws and tore them off. Sinking back into the water the viral creature dissolved into data leaving them free to swim back to their partners.
"Bearm-Grizzlymon!" Noriko cried jumping onto her partner. "You were awesome! You finally reached Champion!"
Shyly Grizzlymon allowed his partner to continue hugging him while shooting a worried glance at Cody and Ankylomon. Both of them winked at him. "I just hope I'll be able to change back. Your mom was really nice to me when I was all cuddlely but now…"
Shaking her head Noriko began scratching his noise affectionately. "Who says you aren't still cuddlely?"
As nice as it would have been to continue enjoying the moment the four were shook by the sound of ships exploding in the distance. Turning their heads they saw half the naval fleet deployed by the JSDF had been sunk. Columns of smoke and flames were rolling over the stormy water while metal wreckage was washed away. Spires of ice rose up from the water and some parts of the boat curtesy of MetalGarurumon still unloading his entire arsenal. In the midst of the flashing lightning they could make out Halsemon cutting off the heads of the various WaruSeadramon using his Tempest Wing. Spotting Ankylomon he started heading his way.
Sharing a glance with Cody the dinosaur Digimon lifted his tail, waiting patiently for the armored Digimon to arrive. With a grunt of effort he lifted him off the ground and made way towards the battle. Noriko and Cody climbed onto of Grizzlymon who dived into the water; like the species of which his name was drawn from he was an excellent swimmer, even with the waves slamming into him no stop.
Narrowing his eyes in effort Halsemon and Ankylomon knew the maneuver they'd been practiced for months on end was either about to pay off or they were in for one painful crash landing. The WaruSeadramon below them noticed the duo flying closer and closer thus turned their attention towards them.
"Ankylomon," Halsemon said gathering all his energy.
"Yeah?"
"If this works we're going to have to talk about doing this again, because I'm sure as hell not doing this on a daily bases."
Grinning a little Ankylomon began curling himself into a ball as if he was about to perform his Megaton Press attack. Silver-blue winds wrapped around Halsemon as he performed his Tempest Wing while still keeping his iron grip around Ankylomon.
The silver whirlwind was joined by the yellow and gray sphere forming a new far, deadlier attack no one had ever seen. Barreling through the water countless viral Digimon tried and failed to stop the blunt forced whirlwind sweeping through their ranks. Ever slowly the two started to rise higher and higher into they were well above the battle. Shouting in fury Halsemon released his comrade with the force of a hurricane propelling him downward.
The virus infected ships had been protected by a serious of whirlpools and gale force winds; blocking almost all attempts to destroy them. Artillery shells and warheads alike were knocked away due to just not having enough force to penetrate the barriers.
The armored Digital dinosaur currently flying towards them on the other had did.
Watching him tear through the ships was like watching a meteor crash down then bulldoze through a forest. It was oddly majestic yet at the same time horrifying. The USS Oldendorf turned her guns on the Digimon, not hesitating in firing everything it had.
Disregarding the impact of the shells Ankylomon pressed towards the hijacked American ship. All his senses screamed for him to destroy the ship, it was already lost to evil as was its crew. "Tail Hammer!" Back flipping with his tail raised he nearly cleaved the ship in half. The sound of metal shredding and breaking under his tail was maddening to the humans watching. Climbing aboard he swung at the bridge, hopeful destroying whatever root of evil that had infected the ship.
Aquacity Odaiba was one of the favorite places Noriko and Bearmon liked to visit. Even if Bearmon was forced to disguise himself he still enjoyed walking through all the stores, tasting all the different foods, and personally he loved the taste of Ramen being served in the Shin-Yokohama Ramen Museum.
Half of Aquacity was being flooded while virus infected Digimon rampaged inside of it, shortening the mall's life span.
Landing on the roof both Grizzlymon and Noriko felt their souls crushed realizing they couldn't do anything to save the building. Instead all they could so is take their anger out on the monster responsible for its destruction.
Throwing away his reservations Grizzlymon broke through the mall and tore at any Divermon that came at them. Grizzlymon was absolutely brutal in his assault. From a certain view point Noriko almost seemed like some sort of bizarre knight riding her trusted mount into battle. Even Cody thought that keeping his arms wrapped around her waist.
When all this is over we won't be able to call her a newbie. A small blush had worked itself into his cheeks. She'd taken this whole mess rather well; maybe a little better than some of them were.
Having seen enough of the Divermon butchered by Grizzlymon's Kuma Tsume another Ebidramon decided to try and take the mammal Champion down. Jumping out from behind them it swung both its shining pincers directly at Grizzlymon's back.
Eyes narrowing he spun around catching both of pincers in his claws. "Maul Attack!" A quick transfer of energy went through the Ebidramon's pincers then into Grizzlymon's claws. Taking a single step backwards he did threw the virus infected creature over his shoulder with the skill and grace of a martial artists. "Noriko, Cody, I'm gonna need you guys to get off me for a second." He said standing up on his hind legs. "I'll take you some place safe but you'll have to wait there."
Nodding their heads they scrambled up an intact set of stairs while Grizzlymon sent out a challenge in the form of a roar to the rest of the undersea horde. Though they didn't dare look back they could hear the sounds of bones and shells being broken, Grizzlymon's furious roars, and the dying moans of faded Digimon.
Bursting through the roof door Cody and Noriko were frozen to see most of Tokyo Bay was now underwater. "You…You can't be serious…" The older girl whimpered walking over to the edge.
Only the tallest of buildings were able to stand out, becoming nothing but islands in the ever expanding sea. Even those that had survived the flood were being blown apart by the growing battle around them, disappearing from view in storm of fire and ice. Pieces of wreckage from the battle continued to flow down river or disappear under the increasingly dark waves. If that weren't enough the rainstorm had grown worse now with small pieces of hail making their descent. They weren't golf-ball sized but Cody and Noriko knew if they didn't end the battle soon there'd be nothing left of Tokyo Bay, Yokohama, or any of the surrounding area. Including their homes.
"How the hell could digital lifeforms do this?" The female DigiDestined whispered clearly taken back by the level of destruction.
Doing his best to keep a straight face Cody gave her an answer. "Noriko, they're not just data. After everything I've seen you have to understand something; the Digital World isn't just data, it's like a living world. Shaped by emotions and dreams. All of this…" The vile rising in his stomach was beginning to show on his face. "All of this is the other side of all that wonder and amazement."
THICK!
"Crescent Claw!"
The broken body of a Scorpiomon came through the floor before vanishing into clumps of corrupted data. Jumping out of the whole was a slightly winded Grizzlymon. Taking a combat position he caught the twin claws of another Scorpiomon.
"Scorpion Storm!"
Temporarily stunned by the attack Grizzlymon was unable to counter the twin scissor like blades heading for his chest. Grunting in pain he ended up rolling up right in front of Noriko and Cody. Bellowing in renewed fury the Scorpiomon came at him again fully intent on getting to the two children through him.
"Tail Blade!"
Snapping into alertness Grizzlymon caught the attack. "Maul Attack!" he growled redirecting all the energy into twisting Scorpiomon's tail. While he screamed in pain Grizzlymon raised his right Kuma Tsume. "Crescent Dawn!" The gloved claw glowed a golden yellow before he slammed in down into Scorpiomon's head. The crack spread through his body until there was nothing left. With a moment to breathe the Champion fell to one knee breathing harder than before. "I never thought so many virus Digimon could make it through in such a short amount of time."
"It has to be a Digital Gate." Cody reasoned looking out over the center where the WaruSeadramon were nestled. "That's the only way these many could be coming through unless…"
"Unless what Cody?" Noriko questioned.
"…The gate has to lead to the Dark Ocean. All the fear and panic spreading through the city must have been enough for Dagomon to open up a portal in the middle of the bay."
"Enough?" Noriko snorted. "Pretty much all of Tokyo's on edge because of increased crime, gang violence, super storms, and oh yeah, just monsters invading!" Taking a deep breath she patted her partner's arm then looked apologetically at Cody. "Sorry about that."
"Don't worry about it." Grizzlymon chuckled. "If anything I knew you were going to burst at some point. The question is could Cody handle it?"
A small blush came to the cheeks of each of the young DigiDestined causing Grizzlymon to throw back his head in laughter.
Until he sensed the murderous intent coming up behind Cody. "Cody get away from the edge!"
Rising like a snake was a WaruSeadramon; hovering above Cody. "Thunder Blade!"
Dashing forward Grizzlymon brought both his gauntlets up just in time to catch the electrified blade. "Maul Att-AAAAHHH!" There was too much power in WaruSeadramon's attack for him to redirect. His pain receptors burned with a pain he never knew existed. The world went fuzzy while his hearing was replaced by the sound of his furry hide being fried. Through the haze of pain he could hear Noriko's terrified scream. Her voice brought a calming effect to him that gave him the strength to try and fend off WaruSeadramon's attack. Through the pain, through the fire eating away at him he called up all his remaining strength to steer away WaruSeadramon's attack.
Breaking apart one half of the Aquacity the viral beast stared in amazement at the panting bear. A golden light engulfed the fallen creature then faded away to reveal a wounded Bearmon. Licking its lips the WaruSeadramon leaned forward hungrily only to find the Rookie was back on his feet. It liked the determination in its eyes; it made it all the sweater when he would be devoured.
Diving to save her partner Cody wrapped both his arms around Noriko and Bearmon. Now not even a week later he was facing death in such a dishonorable way, at the mercy of a virus infected monster in the middle of a flooded city.
"CODY!" A female voice shouted over the furious winds whipping about.
The WaruSeadramon had just enough time to see the twin pairs of lasers heading straight for his head before they pierced through his flesh and came out the back in. Flying through the cloud of vanishing data was Kari and Nefertimon. Slowing down just enough to grab the three they flew right over the ruins of Aquacity Odaiba.
Matt knew Tai had a plan but was reluctant to use it as they continued trying to fend off the waves of viral Digimon flooding the Yokohama. He had a faint idea of what that plan involved glaring at how the city was rapidly becoming lost to shadowy waters. "Tai!" he shouted over the storm around them. "If we don't do something now then we're screwed!"
Through the rainstorm the two boys' eyes met briefly. Acknowledging his best friend was right he called into his Digivice. "Davis get over here! I have a plan and it's going to involve you." Leaning over he whispered into WarGreymon's ear. As expected the Dragon Man was slightly taken back but quickly realized how dire the situation was. "Sora, Ken I need you guys to buy us some time!"
The two flying Digimon prepared their weapons then got to work holding off the flying Digimon around WarGreymon.
Raising both his hands to the sky the Mega began calling upon all the heat from the earth and air around him. "It's scared Tai. The Earth is terrified."
"It's not the only one."
Watching Garudamon and Stingmon fight off whole flocks of Megadramon and Gigadramon MetalGarurumon began doing the same as his best friend. Unlike him there was plenty of cold air for him to dry upon. Matt himself felt his body temperature dropping rapidly with a cloud of ice forming around his partner. Sparring one eye at the flood waters below he grimaced. "I know we're all going to be having nightmares after this."
A single bolt of lightning caught the attention of various eyes. Standing on the remains of Tokyo tower was Raidramon, or at least they believed it to be him at the center of the massive lightning storm conjugating around the radio tower. The smell of ozone was so thick one could choke on it.
Seeing his cue to leave Stingmon and Ken pulled out leaving Sora and Garudamon right beside Tai and Matt. Crossing both hands across her chest she began gathering all the heat energy she could the same as WarGreymon.
Wiping the sweat from his eyes Tai saw MetalGarurumon now fully encased in an aura of icy energy. On top his back was a shivering Matt, his skin just barely starting to turn a light shade of blue. Catching his best friend's look he shot him a thumps up as a go ahead then panted MetalGarurumon's metallic form.
"GRACE CROSS FREEZER!"
The barrage of sub-zero armaments was unlike anything ever witnessed by the DigiDestined. From the explosion of ice-blue light came a swarm of missiles and warheads, each carrying enough power to flash freeze a whole river. And there were hundreds of them; each a silver-blue star falling to the flooded earth. Exploding into gigantic collections of frozen spikes and arcane shapes the flooded area once known as Yokohama was soon a frozen wasteland along with everything frozen inside of it.
With the cyborgnetic wolf's part finished he pulled back allowing WarGreymon and Garudamon to take center stage.
Auras of flame and heat had enveloped both of them to the point clouds of steam were rolling off them. Crying to the heavens above Garudamon released all the pent up energy she'd gathered. "WING BLADE!"
While great Garudamon's fire was a candle compared to WarGreymon. A condense ball of heat, no bigger than a baseball was nestled tightly between his palms. Upon throwing his arms back and hurling it the fireball quickly grew in size until it was a twenty feet diameter sphere of heat and destruction. "TERRA FORCE!"
The bird shape silhouette of fire and the gigantic fireball collided with the icy landscape resulting in a resounding explosion that could be seen as far away as Chiba. Like a volcano had erupted the steam rose up in thick columns then spread through the air turning into fog.
Making his appearance know through the fog Raidramon howled to the sky calling upon nature one more time. "THUNDER BLAST!"
Countless javelins of lightning burst forth from the sky cutting apart the clouds of mist and fog. They came crashing down through the water before spreading out into thick cobras racing through the water. Striking everything they met, living or nonliving, they created an explosion fit for an artillery shell. Those infected ships still in the water soon became nothing but eye-sheering torches in the water. Anything metal or metallic faced an increased shock that turned it into a miniature inferno that raged before becoming a slave to the electrically current racing through the water.
From the air the awe of watching the dark waters change into pools of bright light turned into horror upon seeing the twisted shapes in the water. The screams of Dagomon's infected army lasted for a total of ten seconds; they never heard the sound of their bodies being deleted.
Once the storm of thunder and lightning ended there was a great decrease in the level of water flood Yokohama. The surface of the water sizzled with steam and cackled with left over electricity.
No matter where they were the DigiDestined stared in numbed shock at what they'd just done. Yes they'd probably knocked off a good chunk of the invading sea army but one question nagged in their brains; had they just committed mass murder? Their attack had a far reaching affect, further than any of them save for maybe MetalGarurumon could see. There was no way all the sailors and civilians were able to get out of the water in time for their attack to go off. There was no denying that fact. The human body wasn't built like a virus infected Digimon…nor did it quietly dissolve into data once killed.
What had become of those bodies that weren't instantly vaporized in the ensuing inferno that WarGreymon, MetalGarurumon, and Garudamon created? Surely they had to have been destroyed by Raidramon's thunderstorm leaving nothing but ashes to drift through the seas.
Didn't that make it worse?
No body to search for. No body to identify.
MetalGarurumon was the only one who'd ever be able to give ab estimate on how many people they'd probably just killed. And nothing short of the end of the universe would ever make him reveal that number.
"IMPRESSIVE CHILDREN!"
Flinching in every muscle all their eyes began scanning the storm for any sign of Dagomon. With a shudder they realized his voice was everywhere: on the wind, in the roaring waves, and coming from the voice boxes of his numbed followers.
"I always wondered how far you children could be pushed before you considered murder. I'm glad to see you've got a leader willing to stomach it. Yes, there's gonna be a lot of heart broken families out there. They were killed by nature? No, they were butchered by a group of pathetic brats who think they can save the world. Of course you'd never let that information get out. Oh no you all need that childish belief you're the heroes in order for all of you to sleep at night."
The air around Tai suddenly grew ten times colder making his breath come as small clouds. The wind coiling around him began to feel like tentacles, wet, disgusting and totally unnerving to feel. "Shut up! This is your fault from the start!"
"My fault? The wind cried. That's awful mean to say. If anything this is your fault. You're the ones who turned this into a war. You're the ones who're costing innocent lives by resisting. All of this…all of it could have been avoided if you'd just let…all of it go. Tightening around Tai's neck the next few words could almost be whispered in his ear. You always got to be the brave one right Tai? Always the one to hold his ground and say "we can get through this if we work together or believe in ourselves". Tai…I'm sorry but I'm not the villain here, you are. You're the villain for giving these poor people hope. What's sadder is you're a hypocrite yourself. All this death and destruction, how can you ask someone to go through this multiple times? How can you stand before a stage of children maybe a year or two your senior and ask them to commit murder like this…because you believe there's a light at the end of the tunnel. There's no calm after-"
Replacing the suffocating cold winds was a powerful hot wind that snapped Tai back to reality. A pair of hands gripped his raincoat bringing him into a warm embrace. He knew the auburn colored hair he was staring at and recognized the warmth spreading through his body. Blinking once he allowed his body to relax into Sora's warm embrace then allow the heat rolling off of Garudamon and WarGreymon to completely envelope him.
"Love…what a sad, frail thing. I've waited much too long to cure the world of this bothersome disease."
With their enhanced eyes seeing the attack coming for them WarGreymon and Garudamon broke apart just in time to dodge the particle beam.
"Uh guys," MetalGarurumon snorted. "You may not like hearing this but Dagomon brought back an old friend."
"Which one?" WarGreymon was truly fearing the answer.
With his glittering metallic helmet and scarlet eyes MetalSeadramon stood high above the lesser WaruSeadramon. The crimson DigiCode burned brighter than the rest turning its already demonic image even more horrific.
The same question ran through everyone's minds; was this the same Dark Masters MetalSeadramon they'd defeated all those years ago? The same one that hounded them through the net ocean and caused the death of Whamon? Judging by the way it was eying Tai and WarGreymon they were inclined to believe so.
Energy began to build in its snot cannon that was echoed by a deep rumbling voice. "River of Power!"
The particle beam wasn't aimed at Tai or Sora, it was aimed at Tokyo Tower. And it was moving faster than they expected, faster than Raidramon could expect. His eyes snapped downwards where Davis was busy covering Chiyo with his body. In the first second he moved to protect them he could already feel the searing power heat up his skin.
Watching Tokyo Tower getting blown apart wasn't what set the rest of the DigiDestined off, watching their friend and second leader possibly getting blown to smithereens did. It especially set Ken off. For the last half hour he'd been fighting off exhaustion, mental instability, and sea sickness, what filled his heart blew all those things away leaving a searing fire in its wake. For Stingmon he very much felt the same, Veemon, his best friend and second partner felt a rage he rarely felt infect every fiber of his body.
Leaving a dark green trail in his wake that was soon followed by the others only Kari and Nefertimon were left behind still staring at the remains of Tokyo Tower in plate sized eyes. Something was suffocating her heart like a boa constrictor.
"Kari?" Nefertimon called very much feeling a similar feeling herself. She refused to believe Raidramon, no Veemon or Davis could be killed that easily. "They're not dead. They can't be, not after everything we've been through."
Beckoning her partner towards the wreckage while the rest went off to combat the Mega level dragon Kari prayed to the high heavens her thick headed leader and Chiyo were still alive.
Davis must have been in a world of pain with the burn wound on his back, hell Chiyo could see it in his eyes. At the last second she threw up a barrier that was just strong enough to hold the worst of the damage though that didn't mean both of them weren't trapped in a body suit of pain and aching bones. It was taking all their strength to keep conscious, more so for Davis since he took the brute of the attack. Shifting her head a little Chiyo could see Veemon desperately making his way towards them with a school of Divermon and an Ebidramon in the background.
Facing Davis she was shocked when he immediately pressed his lips against hers. Air, that sweat substance that they were both lacking was rushing into her lungs while it left Davis's. Pushing her upwards she wanted to scream at Davis to for once take the selfish choice.
His eyes told him why he couldn't do such a thing; No matter what I'll never leave a person in danger. That's just a part of who I am.
The Divermon and Ebidramon were within breathing distance of them with their jaws and claws ready to sink into their flesh.
All three eyes snapped their eyes shut waiting for what they all knew was going to be the end for at least one of them.
Just as the first Divermon was about to fire his spear a light pierced its hand paralyzing it like all the other virus infected Digimon. It was a blue-white light that split into two; one hitting Veemon square in the chest and the other striking Davis. From seemingly out of nowhere air returned to his lungs giving him the strength to reach into his pocket and take out his D3. A view of the of Digi-Eggs he possessed came up; the Digi-Eggs of Courage, Friendship, and the locked down Digi-Egg of Miracles, and a new one. It was the Digi-Egg of Reliability.
Veemon Digi-Armor Digivolve to…
Blinding light consumed Veemon shaping into a sphere that soon exploded into an array of air bubbles. Slashing his way through was a new, marine type Digimon covered in scuba-like armor with a face plate.
"Depthmon!"
Name: Depthmon
Level: None, Armored
Attribute: Data, Free
Description: Depthmon is the end result of Veemon digivolving using the Digi-Egg of Reliability. With a body that can withstand even the toughest of pressure the ocean can exert this Digimon lives up to is name. Using its Marine Knives, Bubble Bomb, and Sargasso Drag it'll blast or swim through anything to keep its promise to a friend or ally.
Catching sight of Davis and Chiyo Depthmon jetted towards them, taking both of them in his arms; the next thing they knew they were all feeling the chilly wind biting away at their skin. Davis and Chiyo were completely caught off guard at what they'd just went through. The two of them blinked at each other once then at Depthmon.
"I never thought we could trade Digi-Eggs." Davis dumbly stated. "Chiyo are you okay?"
"J-Just a little dizzy." She answered still feeling the tingle run through her body. "D-Depthmon c-can you handle all of those things?"
Flashing her a thumbs up Davis and Chiyo knew he was smirking through his oxygen mask. "Just leave those pricks to me."
It was rare to encounter a creature that could dive deeper or swim faster than the Divermon who prided themselves on being one of the most enduring Digimon of the sea. Upon seeing Depthmon in action they knew that pride was now being threatened.
He swam through the water with the grace and skill of a bird in the air and attacked with the ferocity of a shark on the hunt. "Marine Knives!" Tiny bluish-silver objects jetted through the water before impaling themselves within the eyes or DigiCores of Divermon and Ebidramon. They moved too fast to be caught or avoided even by the now greatly enraged Scorpiomon making their way onto the scene. Even though they were Ultimates, even though they should have been able to tear this annoying creature limb from limb in seconds, they too fell to Depthmon's Marine Knives.
Their eyes were almost always the first thing he went for leaving them blinded, thrashing around in the water like helpless fish. They lashed out wildly at where they suspected the Armored Digimon was only to either end up hitting open water or their own comrades. It was enough to make Depthmon chuckle in amusement before continuing his run through the horde.
Appearing in front of their blinded faces he cupped both his hands together than shot them forward. "Bubble Bomb!"
In an explosion of air and water the Scorpiomon as well as the various other virus-infected Digimon began to disappear one by one. Some of them had just enough time to notice the bombs float in front of them before they went off ending their existence. It was like a bombing run with a slip blue blur moving at high speed through the stormy waters leaving explosions in its wake. Snapping and tearing at it did no good as the Armored Digimon would twist his body in unimaginable ways to avoid their attacks.
What was fueling this creature; the viral Digimon wondered. Even if they were given an answer they were too far good to understand it. They could never understand what was driving Depthmon to risk his life in such an extreme manner.
It was love. It was friendship. It was duty. It was a promise he'd made from the day Davis had awakened him from his deep sleep.
That was what gave him the speed and power he was currently filled with, They were the power carried in his knives and bombs that sent Champions and Ultimates to their digital graves.
His mental link told him Davis and most likely Chiyo were safe, high above this abyss of death and despair he racing through. With them safely out of harm's way he could go all out, there was nothing around him but monsters. Holding up a new set of knives Depthmon felt his data burn with a white hot desire. "Come on guys. It's not the end of the world just yet, well not for me, you guys it's a different story."
MetalSeadramon was a lot tougher than any of them remembered, probably smarter too though they could be chalked up to Dagomon pulling the strings. Obviously he knew WarGreymon was the major threat and thus did everything he could to keep him occupied. Tornadoes, random lightning strikes, and flocks of cyborg Digimon and what they later identified to be Saberdramon. Naturally these being dragons WarGreymon was able to deal with them quite easily, the problem was they just kept coming.
Cutting through three Gigadramon in a roar WarGreymon decided he had to end things and get back to the main battle. "Great Tornado!" Spinning at high speeds he tore through pieces of flesh and armor alike in his attempt to break out of the cage he was trapped in.
While Tai and WarGreymon felt with the dramon flock Matt and the others had their work cut out for them trying to keep MetalSeadramon as well as the remaining WaruSeadramon from blowing the rest of the city apart.
"Poseidon Divide!" The Mega-level sea dragon roared calling upon a truly massive tsunami to wash away everything in his path.
"Heads up guys!" Stingmon cried moving himself out of the way as the wave came crashing down in their direction.
Having dodged the massive wave Pegasusmon moved closer trying to get up close enough to nail MetalSeadramon in the eye. Moving into position he aimed his forehead directly at the Digimon's left eye. "E-"
"TOO SLOW!"
Moving faster than T.K. or Pegasusmon could notice MetalSeadramon wrapped his tail around them. "Hot Squeeze!" Their collective cry rang out through the storm.
"Let them go!" Matt screamed from on top of MetalGarurumon.
"Metal Claw!" Energized his claws the cyborgnetic wolf slashed through the beast's tail staining itself with patches of oil and corrupted data. Moving back to catch T.K. and the now winded Patamon they fell back.
"This is crazy!" Yolei cried looking out at the scene. There wasn't nothing left that marked the area as Yokohama or Tokyo Bay. Nothing remained but a few ruined skyscrapers and sinking buildings. "How can you do all of this! And for what?"
From one of the swirling whirlpools came an answer. "If only you'd open your answers to Lord Dagomon's divine voice; maybe then you'd be able to understand why all of this is needed." The voice was horrid; it sounded like gravel scrapping against gravel over the roar of sea waves slamming against the shoreline. "In time the people will thank us for this. You will as well."
Rising up from the whirlpool was a new Digimon, one none of them had ever seen before. A monster crustacean the size of a battleship. Its blood red shell was shaped like a massive, elongated skull with countless other bestial skulls around it. Dark red DigiCode ran the length of its body form its claws all the way down to its bladed tail. Beneath the armor ebony skin could be made out with the same texture as lobsters. Each of its twin claws snapped hungrily at the air. Turning its six crimson eyes towards the DigiDestined its jaws opened releasing a haunting, unnatural moan.
"W-Wh…at…is that?" T.K. muttered horrified at the snapping tentacles.
Name: Janaimon
Level: Mega
Attribute: Virus
Description: A creature born form the depths of the Dark Ocean and nurtured by the despair of human and Digimon. Janaimon faithfully serves its lord and master Dagomon. Its shell is said to be formed from the skulls of dead Digimon who were lost to the despair in their hearts. Its claws can sever the bond between the soul and the body. Whole landmasses have been submerged with its Betrayal of Noah attack and its Iron Vice has been known to split apart whole mountains. If that wasn't enough its Jetstream Destroyer can destroy an entire army in one shot.
"I…have come…to cement the will of the Great One." Spreading out his arms Janaimon turned towards the DigiDestined giving them a front view of his disgusting body. "DigiDestined…Why fight against a fate that cannot be altered? Lay down your arms….and embraced the Great One's love."
For a time no one moved. Between his voice and appearance they were too stunned.
Gently kicking MetalGarurumon Matt took center stage fixing the Digimon with a hateful glare. "You can tell your Great one this."
With a glare mirroring his partner's the chest compartment of MetalGarurumon opened up. "Garuru Tomahawk!"
The tentacle-like antenna snapped the missile aside before it could impact Janaimon's face. Breathing in such an amount of air it was visible he lifted his right claw. It glowed a demonic red color mounts before he slammed it into the water. "Iron Vice!"
The attack traveled for miles, further than any of them could see. MetalGarurumon saw everything in the path of the shockwave was destroyed, buildings, Digimon, people, everything was blown to pieces. "You murderous bastard!"
"I am a murder? No…I am…just a humble…servant… of our true Lord and savior…" More strange murmuring left the giant beast's mouth. Even the Digimon present were hard pressed to make out just what was being though they knew it couldn't have been anything good.
To his right and left an idol in the shape of Dagomon's face rose into the air with a ring of red DigiCode around them. The code transformed into a red aura that quickly found a home in the idols eyeholes. Massive amounts of sea water began to rise up and wrap around the idols, growing more massive and taking a more solid shape. Gigantic hands, feet, and gaping mouths that seemed large enough to swallow a whole street screeched into existence. Three red eyes and two watery horns formed on each of their bodies completing their form.
"This…is…only the beginning." Janaimon finished disappearing beneath the water.
"W-We've never seen that before." Sora spoke clearly just as shocked as the others were.
Bellowing in fury the first act of the two water titans was to focus their three eyes. A red star appeared in each before joining together. A red beam burst forth from the union cutting through everything in their paths including the clouds.
"Take those things out!" Tai commanded still battling the dramon flock along with WarGreymon.
Damage the water titans was much harder than fighting the sea serpents. First since their bodies were entirely made of water they didn't feel pain nor could they be permanently wounded; any damage done to them was simply healed by the surrounding water. Stingmon and Halsemon learned the hard way diving inside of their bodies was like swimming through cement with the added bonus of being hit by a sudden cold snap. Their partners felt the affects worse than them as evident by their futile attempts to grab at oxygen.
Add that together with the still trigger happy MetalSeadramon and the situation had gone from bad to worse.
Realizing this WarGreymon knew he had to end things. Whether there was something left to be saved or not this battle had to end. "WAR DRIVER!" Scorching hot flames consumed his Dramon Killers than the rest of his body.
SLISH! SLASH! SEEERRRCCCCHHHHH!
On that day all the DigiDestined saw WarGreymon's prized weapons truly live up to their names.
When the last of the dramon flock was destroyed Tai and WarGreymon prepared themselves to take on the water titans. Until they found themselves staring into the barrel of a charged particle cannon.
"SHIT!" Both of them screamed.
"River of Po-AH!"
"Marine Knives!"
Crying from the pain in its right eye the MetalSeadramon was forced to break off from its attack. Before returning to the water Depthmon made sure to shoot the two a thumbs up to attack. Snapping to his rear Tai saw Kari and Nefertimon riding up to them with Davis and Chiyo behind her. Both Tai and WarGreymon breathed out a sigh of relief upon finding out their loved ones were unharmed. Turning their attention back to the MetalSeadramon they steeled themselves for the quick brawl they knew was coming.
Catching sight of WarGreymon jetted towards him MetalSeadramon began gathering energy for his attack. "River of Pow-"
"Dragon Killer!" roared WarGreymon swinging both his claws, one after the other.
The top half of MetalSeadramon's head slid apart, the rest of his body broke down into data not long afterwards. Neither Tai nor WarGreymon looked back to see the rest of the body collapse back into data for their eyes were on the two water giants currently slapping their friends around like flies.
Blasts of water and red energy constantly smacked into them or nearly tore them in half forcing them away. If that wasn't enough the two giants seemed to posse the ability to "scoop up" clumps of the sea water then hurl it had them like mud. As MetalGarurumon, Garudamon, and Angemon could attest, the clumps felt like boulders.
One of them brought its hands back then released a primal roar, pressurized water towers shot up knocking them out of the air or scattering them to the side.
Depthmon was caught in one of those towers much to Davis's horror. One eye caught sight of him then the other two homed in on him. Grabbing the Armored Digimon in its grasp the water giant let loose a haunting moan.
"You'll be the first to go Veemon."
Still struggling against the current Depthmon glared through his visor. "Not are your life squid face!"
Ticking himself into a ball the water giant recognized a Digivolution when it saw it. Bringing its other hand down on top of Depthmon the water giant waited for the data to stream out of its palms signaling the end Depthmon's life.
What started out a low snarl turned into a battle cry followed by an orange light. "Vee-Laser!"
One half of the water giant's hands was blown away freeing ExVeemon.
"Kari take care of Chiyo." Davis spoke jumping onto his partner's shoulder.
Both girls looked between each other then back at Davis, silent admiration clear in their eyes. Kari always knew Davis had the makings of a leader but she'd never heard his voice sound so commanding, for a minute she thought Tai was the one speaking to her. Chiyo stared in awe as Davis and ExVeemon flew towards the water giant. It took courage to keep going in the face of all this destruction, a courage she knew was extremely rare. Today she found in in mass, each of the DigiDestined fighting tooth and nail to stop Dagomon's invasion.
The other water giant caught sight of ExVeemon and Stingmon meeting up. Immediately its three eyes focused into a crimson laser aimed straight at the two. It at first began to strain off course before breaking off, sucked into giant vacuum that was Shakkoumon.
"Wing Blade!"
"Mach Impulse!"
"Justice Beam!"
"Star Shower!"
The combined attack slammed into the water giant knocking if off balance but more importantly it left the idol partly exposed.
Flying together WarGreymon and Garudamon put their backs together.
"Ultra Tornado!"
"Fire Hurricane!"
The swirling fire drill quickly evaporated all the water surrounding the idol even as it called more sea water forward to protect itself. The steam grew hotter while the water rapidly disappeared leaving the wooden idol exposed to the fiery tornado. Together the two completely incinerated the idol and broke through the half reformed water giant. With a thunderous moan of despair the construct began to collapse back into the ocean leaving its twin alone to confront Paildramon.
"Davis…" Ken whispered.
Looking at his best friend he noted there was a fire in Ken's eyes as he held up his Digivice. "Yeah?"
"It's payback time."
Echoing the sentiments of the boys Paildramon called forth the power he was granted by the Azure Dragon. Above him thunder boomed in fury at the devastation; an ethereal Chinese dragon came forth and coiled around Paildramon. Emerging from the light was the dragon often refuted as a god of destruction.
The end was near and the water giant knew it. Knowing that he called forth a rainstorm strong enough it obscured the vision of most of the DigiDestined and their partners. Countless tornadoes formed around it while whirlpools began to form around its feet. Bright red beams of destruction shot out from its three eyes in Imperialdramon's direction.
Davis wrapped his arm over Ken to keep him from being crushed by the storm as well as the immense amount of air pressure Imperialdramon was creating with his high speed movement. Getting in close to the water giant he slashed off its left arm then dove for the idol with is gapping jaws. A water tower shot up under him giving the construct time to get away. Forming a massive fist it lunged forward with a right jab that even the massive dragon was unable withstand without grunt in pain. Imperialdramon had taken and the blow and was now more than willing to return it in kind with a tail sweep that sounded like the thunder booming overhead.
Energy began to build but not in his positron cannon but in Imperialdramon D. Mode's jaws. Rarely did he ever use this attack for its destructive power and collateral damage but this time, this time, both reasons were void. His eyes were glued to the demonic idol in the center of the water giant, "Mega Crusher!"
The sphere was pitch black with blue arcs of energy circling around it; all the other Digimon knew this attack was pure annihilation given form. It was dark matter. The water parted ways as it flew across the bay, completely destroying whatever pieces of rumble in its way. The moan of fear that came from the construct was cut short by the dark matter imploding on contact. Expanding in mere seconds the blast shook the surrounding area and combatants.
Once the explosion died down they all eyes could see the clear whole hole in the water the Mega Crusher had created. The water stayed back for half a second before rushing in to fill the void.
"We'll handle the rest Imperialdramon." Shakkoumon stated flying up to him.
"Th…Thanks guys." The dragon spoke finding a quiet rooftop to land upon. "Davis, Ken, are you guys okay?"
"I," Davis grunted trying to raise his head. "Don't feel okay. But we're fine."
Ken groaned in pain, his back and every other bone screaming in pain. "I just want this nightmare to be over."
His sentiment was shared by the other DigiDestined, some more so than others. Flying over the central whirlpool T.K. stepped out, pointing his Digivice towards the abyss. His crest glowed beneath his shirt, his Digivice did so as well. A thin gold beam shot out through the darkness, penetrating the abyss and striking the bottom of the darkness.
The inky black color of the water began to fade away as the water began receding back to its original level. With the storm over the remains of Yokohama could be seen further breaking the hearts of the Chosen Children. Nothing looked the same anymore, hell, there was very little that was left standing. None of the iconic landmarks such as the Rainbow Bridge, Ferris Wheel, or anything to identify the area as Yokohama.
With enough of the water gone they were able to find someplace to set down. Collapsing next to each other the exhaustion caught up to each of them.
Tai and Sora sat shoulder to shoulder with their partners huffing in their laps. Sora leaned her head on his shoulder close to passing out while Tai stared emptily at the parting storm skies. This isn't over, not by a long shot.
Matt and Gabumon watched the waves now quietly swoosh aside like it was just another ordinary day. He hated how the sea returned to its calmness while everything around it slow fell to chaos. He hated how odds were no matter how great their victory was it was ultimately minimal. You're still there aren't you bastard? Still there…still laughing at all of this. Images of Jun's broken body filled his mind threatening to surface until he felt a soft hand on his shoulder.
"You know I'd follow you anywhere right?" Gabumon offered.
"I know buddy." His smile was sad at first. His frown was serious and determined. "I know by now you're probably tired of water but how do you fell about surfing?"
The glare in his eyes was so unlike anything he'd ever seen from Gabumon. "As long as we get to have some sushi after it."
"…Count on it."
