"I need to get back now…" Kagome sighed, looking to the medicine in her hand. Kaede smiled sadly, walking behind the girl and patting her on the back softly.
"Ye mother can't help it, child. Do not hold it against her."
Kagome nodded, glancing to Fluffy, who sat beside her leg, staring at her with curious red eyes.
"What will you do? Will you stay?" Kagome asked. If she had done this a few days ago, she would have laughed at herself for talking to a dog. Now, she wouldn't think anything of it. He knew what she was saying, and always responded to her.
He raised his head to her, before plopping it into her lap. She smiled, bringing her hand to rest against his temple.
"I thought as much."
Kaede watched with a knowing smile, before walking towards the other end of her hut, retrieving a small bottle she had placed in a drawer.
"Koichi asked me to give this to ye, Kagome."
Kagome glanced over to the old woman, her eyes resting on the sake bottle in her hands. Kagome frowned, but understood.
"Thank you, Kaede. That will save me a trip."
Fluffy noticed the saddened expression on Kagome's face and whined softly, nudging her knee with his cold nose.
"Smile, Kagome. Yer young prince does not approve of yer distress." Kaede smiled, leaving the girl and dog in the hut as she retreated outside.
Kagome smiled, her eyes drifting to her furry companion.
"If only you were a prince. Perhaps you could take me away and we would live happily ever after."
Fluffy whined again, more desperate for the girl's attention.
