Disclaimer: I do not own Chuck but if I did then Sarah and Chuck would have had ten babies by now fighting around their home with Lightsabres.
Love-Struck Spies
Chapter Five, It Was A Mistake
Thursday, 1 December 2005
CIA facility just outside Burbank.
Chuck and Sarah had still not spoken to Bryce yet, and a CIA medical team was presently fixing him up as Fulcrum had roughed him up pretty badly.
Sarah and Chuck had lots of things playing on their minds right now.
Firstly, they had lost three colleagues, which the Director could have prevented if he had provided them with more information.
And then came the reappearance of Bryce freaking Larkin. It was time they started to get answers.
Neither of them liked to be used as puppets by the CIA, and that's precisely how they felt like they were being used, like puppets on a string.
What was going on in Burbank that was so important?
Why was today the first time they had heard of an organization called Fulcrum? Both Chuck and Sarah had high-level assets positioned around the world, and if there was an organization with a reputation as big as the Director had said, then they would have heard something. Unless Fulcrum eliminated anyone that they came into contact with. That was a possibility.
And then there was that magical, breathtaking kiss.
Neither of them had ever kissed anybody like that before.
The way that their lips and tongues met and tasted each other for the first time.
The way that their hands took firm of each other as their lives depended on it.
The way that their knees felt like jelly, and they felt close to collapsing onto the floor of the facility.
The way that Sarah's feet squirmed with immense desire for him. If they hadn't have been interrupted with a call requesting them, then Sarah would have probably taken him inside of her right then and there in that same spot.
The medical team had now finished with Bryce, and he was now on the phone to the Director. Did the Director send Bryce here? Why was he here?
Chuck and Sarah waited for Bryce to finish before they headed over to get some answers. They were both reluctant to see him again, and they quickly told the other their reasons for not wanting to.
Sarah and Bryce had been partners for two months, strictly professional. Bryce didn't seem to think so. He was always trying to get close to Sarah during a mission, claiming it was for the cover. One night they were in Zurich on surveillance, and Sarah was returning to her room, and Bryce was waiting for her. He tried a Montgomery on her. Sarah decided enough was enough, and she decided it was time to show him what she thought of arrogant assholes like him. She played along for a little before she broke his hand, and she would have done a lot more, but she knew it wasn't worth it, and she let him off lightly with just that.
To say Chuck became wound up when she told him was an absolute understatement. He never imagined Bryce would turn out to be like that. Becoming a spy must have affected his ego. This was not the Bryce Larkin he once knew.
Chuck was reluctant to see Bryce because he had his issues with him too. Bryce introduced him to a girl called Jill only to get very jealous of it. Jill broke up with Chuck, and he had a feeling Bryce had something to do with it. Still, Bryce probably did him a favor there. Because he might never have met Sarah if Jill was still around, he would have had a reason not to take up Director Graham's proposition to him.
Sarah filled up with frustration, and she shook her head with disgust that a supposed best friend could do that to somebody like Chuck. Chuck was the sweetest person she had ever met, period. But she was also very happy that this Jill was not around, however. Or she may never have got the chance to meet Chuck.
After telling each other about the exploits of Bryce Larkin, they both agreed that they would go in together, and they promised to talk about things at a later time. Right now, they were both exhausted after a very long day. They wanted to get this debriefing with Bryce finished with, so they could check into a hotel together as the CIA was still organizing permanent accommodation for the spy couple.
Sarah and Chuck then proceeded to enter into the room in which the medical team had treated Larkin inside. Bryce immediately glanced in the direction of both of the Agents, and his face began to fill up with shock, and he blinked rapidly in succession. Frankly, he looked like he had seen two ghosts.
"Chuck Bartowski?" Bryce asked in shock. "What are you doing here? Silly question, you're CIA?"
"Yep... hello, Bryce," Chuck replied.
Bryce then turned his gaze towards Sarah.
"Well, hello, Agent Walker. You're looking mighty fine. Have you come to your senses and come to rescue me?" Bryce asked with a chuckle and a grin as he shifted his glance between Sarah and Chuck.
Chuck cursed under his breath.
Sarah was now feeling very pissed off with Bryce. "It seems you didn't learn your lesson in Zurich, Larkin," she growled as she edged forward towards him until Chuck grabbed her hand to stop her.
"Sarah, it's not worth it," he told her as he held onto Sarah's hand to stop her from tearing Bryce's face off, which she was about to.
Bryce chuckled, and he turned to Chuck once more. "I think she missed me, buddy."
Chuck was now the one who was unable to contain his frustrations. He already cared about Sarah, and he could tell she was pissed off, and it hurt him. "Bryce, what happened to you, man? You let this life destroy your ego. Quit being an asshole to Agent Walker or me, and you will have a problem," he said with a scowl on his face.
Bryce could now see how serious Chuck was by his body language and posture, and he attempted to calm him down. "Woah. Easy, buddy."
"Buddy?" Sarah snorted out. "How can you call him buddy, Bryce? You took his girl away from him at Stanford."
Bryce frowned his eyebrows in complete surprise on hearing Sarah's interjection. "Jill? I never took her away from you, Chuck. Sure she was interested in me, but when she broke up with you, I had already joined the CIA. They restrained me from having any relationship with a civilian," he declared.
"Forget about that, Bryce, it's history. You did me a favor anyway because if Jill were still around, then I would have turned down Graham's proposition, and I wouldn't have been able to have found Sarah then," he said with a bright smile as he spoke.
On hearing what Chuck had just said to Bryce, Sarah developed a smile that would melt anybody's heart. Chuck had just said exactly what she was thinking, even if Bryce had to provoke him just to make him come out with it.
Chuck could not believe he had just said that aloud. He didn't regret it because it was true, but Bryce had gotten under his skin so much he had just let it slip.
"So that's why you two are protective over each other. You both have a thing," Bryce said with a wide smirk on uncovering the revelation.
Neither Chuck or Sarah attempted to deny it, and they were both embarrassed slightly.
Bryce had gotten to them.
Chuck decided to use a bit of the old Klingon language.
"bIjatlh 'e' yImev"
"Chuck?" Sarah then asked as she looked at him in complete bewilderment like he had four heads.
"He told me to shut up. Your Klingon's a bit rusty, Chuck. Look, both of you, I am sorry for being an ass when you have just saved my life. I do appreciate that. It is just a shock to see you, Chuck."
"Why did Fulcrum grab you?" Sarah asked.
"They wanted something," Bryce replied casually.
"Wanted what?" Chuck asked inquisitively.
"Sorry, Chuck, afraid that's classified. Speak to Graham," Bryce replied in a flat tone once more.
This was getting nowhere, and Chuck and Sarah needed a time out, so they decided to leave the room together, and they moved to take a seat outside.
"Well, that went well..." Sarah said with a long drawn out sigh.
"Yeah, tell me about it..." Chuck said, and he paused with a long sigh of his own. "Sarah, are you ok?"
Sarah nodded. "Yes... I just wanted to kick his ass. Every time I see his face, he seems to have that effect on me," she said and finished with a smirk.
Chuck laughed briefly.
"Chuck?" Sarah then asked.
"Yes, Sarah?" Chuck replied as he gazed at her.
"Did you mean what you just said to Bryce?" Sarah asked him as she gazed right back, and they held their intimate eye contact.
Chuck replied instantly without having to think about that."Every single word, Sarah. I have known you for barely a week, but it's been the greatest week of my life. You are beautiful, and you laugh at all of my stupid jokes, and we have a bond that nobody else has. We have already risked our own lives to save each other. And we will many more times. There can be no bigger bond than that. I was lonely before I met you, real lonely, you know, with my mom leaving me and then my dad too, and not seeing my sister in over three years. I'm rambling, aren't I? I'm sorry, Sarah, I'm just nervous." Chuck immediately began to sink his head to look at the floor.
Sarah's eyes almost filled up with tears. That was the most honest and most beautiful and sweetest thing that anybody had ever said to her, and she felt her spy walls collapse because of Chuck's admissions to her.
Sarah moved to put her hand onto Chuck's face, and she lifted his head. He had just spilled his heart to her, and she owed him the same.
"Chuck... You have nothing to be sorry for. I'm..." Sarah paused as she felt her heart pounding, and she felt sweaty with anxiety over opening herself up to him. "Chuck, I'm not good at this because I was always alone, so I never needed to talk, and I could hide and bury my feelings and emotions, but I don't feel lonely now Chuck, and that is because of you, so please, please don't be sorry," she said with a warm smile.
"Really?" Chuck asked as he looked into Sarah's eyes.
"Yes, Chuck, really," Sarah replied, holding her smile.
Chuck let out a nervous laugh. "Look, Sarah, I know you that have trouble expressing yourself but I just want you to know that I will always be here for you and I will never take advantage of what we have, and you don't have to say anything because your smile is more than enough for me."
Sarah suddenly let out the smile of an angel.
Who would have thought that Bryce Larkin would have helped Chuck and Sarah communicate with each other for the first time?
"Chuck, let's just report in with the Director, and then I want to get out of here and find our accommodation," she said.
"Good idea," Chuck agreed as she took hold of his hand, and they began to stand up together.
On standing, they shared a brief embrace, and then they proceeded to contact Director Graham.
"Graham secure."
"Walker, Bartowski, secure."
As soon as they could talk, Sarah didn't waste any time, and she got straight to the point. "Director, we need answers about what is going on here and never mind this classified bullshit because we just lost three agents because you withheld information from us and if you want us to do our job to the best of our ability we need to be in the loop," she demanded.
"I agree, Director," Chuck said.
Director Graham sighed into the conversation.
"Very well. Agent Larkin was assigned some time ago to oversee a top-secret project. I'm sure you are both aware of Project Intersect?"
They were. It was a database that held all of the government's secrets and intelligence. Chuck and Sarah were under the assumption that it was still in testing.
"Yes, Director, but that is still in its testing phase, correct?" Chuck asked.
"Negative. Agent Larkin is the handler to the first human Intersect. We can only presume Fulcrum captured agent Larkin because they wanted to know the identity of the Intersect," Director Graham replied.
"Human Intersect?" Sarah asked dumbfoundedly.
"Agents, there's only so much I can say. I will fully update you face to face. I will be landing in Burbank in thirty-six hours. Take the whole day off. You've earned it. I will arrange a meet and contact you with the details of the location on Friday around 11:00. Graham out," and with that, Graham ended the communication.
"So that's why we are here. I wonder how long the Director would have kept us waiting before he told us our objective?" Chuck asked, shaking his head with distaste.
"I don't know, Chuck. Let's just get out of here. We cannot do anything more until Graham arrives."
Chuck smiled at his partner. "I like your thinking, Ms. Walker, so where to?" he asked.
"I know a great hotel I stayed at when I was last in L.A. It's not too far from here. Are you ready, Chuck?" she asked.
"Let's go," Chuck said with a wide grin.
Sarah smiled right back at him as they began to pack up, and they headed to the hotel that Sarah mentioned.
It took them thirty minutes to get there, and the two remaining men from Sarah's team had given them a lift. They had said that it was the least they could do because Chuck had saved their asses.
Upon entering the hotel, Chuck was in awe. "Wow, Sarah, this is beautiful," he said to her with a wide grin.
Sarah gave him a beaming smile as she gazed into his eyes. "I know, Chuck, and the best thing is that the CIA pays the bill, not us," she said, holding her smile.
Laughter erupted from the pair as Sarah took his hand and they headed to check themselves in at the reception.
"Good evening, ma'am, sir," the female hotel receptionist said invitingly to Chuck and Sarah with a warm smile.
"Good evening," Chuck and Sarah replied.
"Would you like to book a reservation?" the receptionist asked.
"Yes, please. I'm hoping to stay with my boyfriend for several weeks until we can find an actual apartment to move into together. We are new to the city," Sarah declared to the receptionist with a warm smile.
"Are you from somewhere nice?" the receptionist asked politely.
"We were working together in D.C. that's where we met. I'm from here originally, though," Chuck said with a warm gaze. Sarah, likewise, was doing the same.
"Will you be booking just the one room?" the hotel receptionist asked with a half-smirk.
Sarah glanced at Chuck, and he looked at her slightly awkwardly at the implications of just one room and sharing it with his new partner. Sarah smiled affectionately at him as she took his hand once more, and she responded to the receptionist's question. "Yes. Just the one room," she stated with a smirk.
"Ok. I'll just arrange that for you. Bear with me..."
-O-o-O-o-O-o-O-
Chuck and Sarah entered their new hotel apartment, and it was luxurious just like Sarah had told him it would be. There was only one bed in the room, so Chuck agreed to himself that he would tell Sarah that he would sleep on the sofa just until they got their permanent accommodation sorted. They both then began to settle in, and Sarah headed to freshen up first. Chuck ordered some late-night room service for the pair of them as neither had eaten in a while. When Sarah had finished in the bathroom, Chuck then headed to freshen himself up and then they both ate and watched a little T.V. They had now been awake for almost a whole day, so they didn't feel able to talk more about things that had happened to them in the past few hours.
Sarah was now getting very tired, and this gave Chuck the chance to tell her he would take the sofa.
"Hey Sarah," Chuck said, and he paused until she glanced in his direction. "I will um, take the sofa. Just until we get our permanent accommodation sorted."
Chuck watched her as a smile began to form on her face. "No, Chuck, it's ok. The bed is more than big enough for two. I promise not to bite," she said the last bit with a mischievous smirk.
"Are you sure, Sarah? I mean, I know we're not five, but..."
"Chuck, I'm sure. I'm going to go and put on my nightwear, and when I come back out, I want to see you in my bed." Sarah turned red inside as soon as she began to realize just how that came out, and she hurried into the bathroom to change.
"God help me," Chuck sighed out before getting himself ready for bed himself.
Chuck changed into his black pajama bottoms and a very thin top before he climbed into his side of the bed as he began to gaze up at the ceiling for a few moments in reflection of a day of mixed emotions and having to deal with the demons of yet more people he had killed.
Sarah appeared back in view from the bathroom once more after a few minutes, and Chuck didn't notice her at first, but when he did, he blinked about six times just to make sure his eyes were not deceiving him. Sarah was wearing a purple lingerie piece that hugged every single inch of her perfect curves, and it left little to the imagination. She gave Chuck a twirl with a bright smile before she climbed into her side of the bed next to him.
"You like?" she asked on gazing at his eyes, and they appeared to be very distracted.
Ten seconds had passed, and there was still no response from Chuck.
"You don't like it?" Sarah asked as her gaze lowered in sadness on thinking that Chuck didn't like what she was wearing.
That got a response from Chuck. "What? Noooo! Sarah, I love, love, love it! You are beautiful as you always are. I'm just trying my best here. I'm not like the other guys you had trouble with, and it's hard right now because you're killing me wearing that!" he choked out to her as he tried not to gape at his beautiful partner before a lust and desire overwhelmed him and she breaks his hand or worse if he advanced on her.
"You're making it hard for me too, Chuck. Don't think I don't know what your plan is, Mr. Bartowski. That shirt you're wearing is not hiding much."
"But, I always sleep like this!" Chuck said in his defense.
Sarah smirked at him. "So do I, Chuck, so do I."
They continued to lay facing each other as a long moment of silence passed as the young partners became lost in their own thoughts, each feeling happy to be close to the one person who had already cared more romantically about them than anybody else ever had even if they couldn't communicate this to the other person.
"Sleep well, Sarah," Chuck finally said to her with a warm smile.
"You too, Chuck," Sarah replied sweetly.
Chuck began to drift off to sleep, leaving Sarah to contemplate her course of action for a few moments as she considered getting closer to him, but she ultimately decided against it as she began to join him in a peaceful slumber...
-O-o-O-o-O-o-O-
One Hour Later.
Sarah was disturbed awake from her peaceful sleep, and she immediately became concerned as Chuck seemed to be having a nightmare, and it must have been what had woke her. He was now turning away from her, and she felt immediate sympathy for him. He had gotten three confirmed kills at the Fulcrum facility, and she knew the act of killing played on him heavily. She decided to move closer to him, and she began stroking his hair to try and settle him.
A few minutes of reflecting brought Sarah to a conclusion. Screw the consequences. I need him right now. And he certainly needs me
Chuck was struggling right now, and he needed somebody more than ever. She needed somebody right now at this difficult juncture in her life too, so she moved up close to him, and she protectively put her arm under his own, and she moved her leg over his own, and she snuggled up close to the only person who had looked out for her in a long, long time. Sarah Walker felt more safe and secure at this exact moment than she ever had before. Little space separated them both now. Chuck calmed too. Maybe he could sense Sarah's presence up against him. Sarah kissed into his hair from where she now lay spooning into him, and sleep quickly overcame her once more.
-O-o-O-o-O-o-O-
It was now late morning in California. Chuck hadn't been restless any more since Sarah had gotten close to him several hours ago. Sarah still hadn't moved an inch from him either as her head was firmly resting just behind his. Her hand was placed protectively over his stomach.
Chuck slowly started to wake up, and he could feel something warm on the back of his head, and he instantly became alert. His legs were also immobilized, and he felt something on his stomach, slowly opening one eye it could only be?
Sarah...
Chuck didn't know what to do right now or how this had even happened, but he had to admit, it felt nothing short of amazing.
Should he try to move?
Or should he wait for Sarah to wake up?
Chuck was struggling to find a solution to the situation.
Sarah must have gotten close to him in her sleep, and he did not want any backlash from Sarah.
He couldn't lose her after he has only just found her.
This could ruin everything.
Chuck had to try and move before she woke up. He attempted to move his legs first. No joy. He then decided to move her hand away from his stomach, and it worked a little bit, but Sarah let out a low moan of complaint. Oh god, please don't wake up, Sarah!
Chuck had to change his tactic.
The only option left was for him to wait until Sarah was awake and to apologize and swear he didn't know how this had happened.
Thirty minutes later.
Sarah was now slowly starting to wake up, and she was happy that it was daylight. This was the best sleep that she could ever remember having. Chuck must have slept better too.
Sarah slowly began to rub affectionate circles onto Chuck's chest with her hand.
While Chuck knew Sarah that was waking up as she was moving her hand on his torso, probably wondering where she was so he had to act now, and he slowly moved out of her lock, and he quickly climbed out of the bed like a bomb had just gone off.
Sarah let out a deep moan of frustration when he had moved out of her grip. She felt so comfortable, but now her body felt half complete. Sarah needed that whole feeling back that she had just moments ago. And when he had jumped off the bed like a bomb had exploded, multiple feelings began to run through her head.
"What the hell!" Sarah moaned out to him in shock.
"Look, Sarah, I'm so sorry! I don't know how we came to be in that position!" Chuck freaked out upon hearing Sarah freak out.
Sarah relaxed slightly. Chuck had just entirely misjudged the situation. At first, she thought he found her repulsive! It's becoming a familiar situation of his. He must be very insecure. Then again, he has every right to be. He knows what I have done to guys who advanced on me. But can't he see that he is different? Surely he knows that he is different, right?''
"Chuck... it's fine."
"But Sarah, I can't lose you now! I have only just found you!" Chuck continued to freak out.
"Chuck... you're not going to lose me. I'm the one who snuggled with you... I think we can cuddle without getting embarrassed about it. We have already kissed. Unless you forgot?" Sarah asked as she started to get sightly frustrated by his insecurity. She found insecurity deeply unattractive.
"Noo! Sarah, I did not forget. It was the best moment of my life. But Sarah, it was a mistake."
A mistake? Sarah's heart had suddenly stopped beating. Doesn't he want me? Is that why he moved out of the cuddle and why he wanted to sleep on the sofa?
"A mistake?" Sarah managed to say very despondently.
"Yes, Sarah. I'm sorry. I feel like I took advantage of the situation. You were upset. I should have stopped..."
This poor guy really is insecure
Chuck was now looking away from Sarah.
"Chuck, look into my eyes because I will only say this once," Sarah said, and she waited until he looked at her again.
"I kissed you because I wanted to kiss you, not because I was upset, and it was the best moment of my life too," she conceded because if it would make him finally realize that he was different, then it was worth it.
Chuck's sadness turned into happiness in an instant as a huge grin formed on the nerd.
"Sarah, I'm stupid. I keep misjudging everything, and that will be the last time I promise you," he declared.
A bright smile then shone through Sarah's face. FINALLY!
"Good. Because insecurity is unattractive, now please can we cuddle again because I kind of liked that feeling we just had, a lot." she emphasized 'a lot' greatly.
"Your wish is my command," he said with a wide grin as he moved back into bed again.
They then began to get close together again. Only this time, they were facing each other, and Sarah started to stroke Chuck's face, while Chuck was moving Sarah's hair back. Their little misunderstanding completely forgotten...
It only takes a second to leave a review, and it really does make a difference!
