Hiii! Remember me? Maybe? Slightly? Firstly I hope you Chucksters are all well!
I know that I have been gone a long while from the fanfic universe now. I have had some serious life issues with depression so that has sucked badly. I did have around 5 chapters ready months ago now and over 300,000 word notes in reserve but I lost the entire contents of my hard drive due to two trojan horses on my laptop which I had to restore to factory settings back in mid June. Actually the past year sucked as a whole and has been one of the worst!
I am absolutely devastated about losing all my story ideas though. And I've spent the past months trying to recreate everything I had written down and planned out. As well as battling my depressive thoughts! And a Playstation 4 thrown in between :) I have managed to salvage quite a lot though! And have many newer ideas too!
Uhm lets see what else before we begin, oh! Some good news last week! Yvonne is coming back to our TV screens via the show '24!' My most favorite show of the last decade meets my most favorite actress of all time. My excitement levels right now are reading over 9000... May could not seriously come fast enough to begin with as I just love 24 so much but now... Well I think you get the point.
Hmm what else, oh. When rereading through this story several times throughout the months, the main thing that seems to stick with me is Chuck declaring his love so soon after his first meeting with Sarah. In his defence I can only say that all of the hormones and emotions that come with being a spy and the loneliness that both of them had experienced prior to meeting each other in my story and in canon to is what caused that. And it slipped in the heat of the moment. And... If you know... Then I guess you know... Also this is a story that starts at full speed then applies the brakes at maximum pressure several items throughout the course of the story, so don't you be worrying your pretty little faces there about their love declaration too soon :) I may also be making some slight tiny changes into the previous 22 chapters in the coming days. It will not involve plot in any way. It will just be a slight tidy up as I look back on it almost 14 months since I first started it. With more writing skills I would like to hope.
You will see a small glimpse of some of the main plot in this chapter.
This chapter should have been here in December 2012-Jan 2013... They say time flies when you're having fun, I personally think time flies when you're NOT having fun!
Disclaimer I don't own anything and I'm not a terrorist, please don't send the NSA after me!
Chapter Twenty Three
Infidel
Undisclosed CIA underground facility
Somewhere in the United States
December 10
06:00
As the Director of the Central Intelligence Agency stepped out of his armoured plated SUV he began to scan the area for any suspicious activity, he would have been hard pressed to have found any suspicious activity. As there was no official highway within miles of the location. Even if looking down at satellite imaging the area would have been of no interest to anybody as it would just look like a small electrical power supply, surrounded by steel fencing protecting it from the public.
That theory could not have been further from the truth as the Director proceeded to confirm his identity via a retinal scan which identified him as CIA Director Langstom Graham and the reinforced steel plated door then proceeded to open automatically.
Once open he proceeded inside into the room which only contained an elevator and yet more security measures. The Director then produced a special key and inserted it into the control panel and the elevator came to life, there was only one button so he hit the button and the elevator descended into the unknown.
He then began to speak with his companion who had remained silent but portrayed a large amount of curiosity as to where they were, and where they were currently descending to. He could see the questioning in his companion's eyes.
"It is from this location here that the war on terror is being won. More actionable intelligence has came from this location than any other site we have in operation in the world." The Director said to his companion who was listening with intrigue.
He continued "In order to keep that intelligence from falling into the wrong hands, safety is paramount and that is why it is currently the most secure location the United States has ever used."
He studied the face of his companion who grew more and more curious as to what this place was.
"So you're telling me that the primary source of US actionable intelligence comes from this location and you can walk right into it with just the scan of an eye and the turn of a key?" The director's companion asked in bewilderment.
"If nobody knows it is here, then nobody is out looking for it. That's the beauty of it. To Al Qaeda or foreign intelligence organizations most of our intelligence is coming from Langley, or even the pentagon. Do you think that they would suspect it being in the middle of nowhere in a tiny hut?" He smirked in reply.
"It's genius." His companion replied.
The Director nodded in agreement and slightly smirked and was about to reply when his companion continued.
"But it is also very stupid."
The Director's face quickly turned sour.
"We have not had one security breach in the 20 years of the facilities operation, and with your help, we plan to keep it that way."
"Besides," he continued "We could have tactical teams here by the time it took them to bypass the robust security measures we have in place here."
"And the facility has it's own dedicated security force." Just as the director finished talking the elevator stopped.
"This must be more than 1000 feet below ground." His companion said.
"1640 to be exact. 500 Meters" The Director replied.
"The facility is deep enough to withstand any missile attack in world arsenal excluding a direct hit of a nuclear warhead. Welcome to your new home Agent Miller."
Director Graham motioned Carina to exit the elevator with his hand following on after her.
"What, I'm supposed to live down here? My assignment is down here?" She asked as if the Director had just developed four heads.
"This is an off book assignment Agent Miller. Nobody can ever know who is located down here, it is paramount to national security. Officially you're no longer an employee of the CIA. You have only one responsibility now. This is your final mission, To protect the information and the provider of the information.
Carina seemed ready to object before the Director continued
"It's your last chance Agent Miller, it was either this assignment or well..." He let that float in the air knowing that his Agent understood perfectly.
They continued walking through the entrance of the underground facility
"Only I and the asset will know who you are and what your purpose is here." The Director said before they entered another room at the end of the hallway from the elevator, Carina noticed it was some sort of control room with Camera's of every room in the facility, Carina couldn't count how many. There were a lot of monitors.
Director Graham motioned to one monitor in particular
"You are looking at the most important intelligence asset in the world right there. More than 45 percent of our active intelligence comes through that one person."
Carina laughed and shook her head before looking at her boss and noticing he was being deadly serious.
Director Graham was now growing impatient at his Agent's reluctance and she had only been here 5 minutes. She was lucky that she wasn't rotting in some prison for the stunt she pulled with his team, he would have made sure that would have happened if he didn't need her for this current assignment.
"So... Who's the asset?" Carina asked in reluctance.
The Director proceeded to hand her an envelope which he was carrying.
Carina studied the file for several minutes 'piece of cake.' she said to herself.
"So you're up to speed?" The Director asked his Agent.
"As much as can be, sir."
"Splendid, onto the normalities, you will be paid annually into the bank account number displayed on this card here," He paused, allowing the female agent chance to look at what he was showing. "All other information you need is here in this section." He paused again handing her another envelope containing the additional information before continuing."
"Oh and one final condition which I am sure you will not be pleased with. He sighed, before continuing. "You are not under any circumstances allowed to leave this facility and the asset must never be allowed to leave either. I repeat, nobody is to ever be outside of this facility, as confident as I am with its security measures, absolutely no stone will be left unturned when protecting the security of this nation, is that understood?"
Carina shot a glance at her boss to see if he was serious about that, the expression on his face confirming the answer she already knew anyway.
Carina nodded and uttered a remark that sounded like 'The poor sod'
Graham heard the remark and silently chuckled to himself at the predicament of his Agent who was always free, never stayed in one place, never got attached and now he had just ordered her to remain confined in a government facility indefinitely.
"Poor sod he may be. But that 'poor sod' is vital to the war on terror and the defence of this nation."
"Now, questions? I have a feeling you have several and would much like to wrap up this briefing sharply and be on my way."
Carina looked at the file, then turned to the director "So basically, you want me to live underground permanently and screw him senseless keeping him in check and babysitting him around a bunker 24/7, sir?" She finished with distaste.
Graham looked distasteful at his agent's crude language. That pretty much was the assignment but did she have to put it like that?
"As of most recently, the asset has not been cooperating as much as we would like, so under the opinion of a physiological assessment of the asset we think that a woman could get him cooperating to an acceptable level of performance again."
"So that's a yes." Carina replied batting her eyelashes.
Graham sighed in defeat. He had much more better things to do with his time than having to deal with this behaviour, ironically though, this was pretty much the most important job in the CIA he was now assigning the agent to.
"I suppose he's cute, I guess that something." She grinned knowing she was really getting into the Director 'Just giving a little payback for this hell assignment' She chuckled to herself.
Graham gave her a don't push it look.
"So, any more questions?"
"Good." The director replied as soon as he seen Carina's mouth open to talk unable to stomach any more useless questions.
Graham walked toward the exit into the hallway and paused turning around "I hope not to see you again too soon Carina, this is your last chance, don't screw it up."
And with that he was gone.
'I thought he wanted me to screw it?' Carina asked herself with a slight chuckle knowing that she had give the Director of the CIA more grief he had bargained for.
Rural Mountains of Afghanistan
Al Qaeda controlled territory
November 20
0800 Local time
The commander had gathered his men in his main hut known as the command centre where they had planned the operation and prayed together for the past several weeks for a final mission briefing and goodbye before he sent his men away to attack the infidel on their homeland. Inside the hut there was a map of the United States, zoomed into the West Coast. California, Los Angeles more specifically.
"We will strike at the very heart of our infidel, where they work, where they eat, where they sleep we will scare them into submission and with this we will see them from our lands forever. Our cause is holy, their cause is unjust. We have god on our side. They fight for money we fight for god and this is why we be will victorious my brothers. For god is on our side."
The Commander continued.
"They call us terrorists, we are not terrorists. They are terrorists they bomb our children with planes. They fight for oil, we fight for freedom."
The final talk continued for well over 30 minutes and it was now time for goodbyes.
"I am honoured to lead you my brothers go now, go and give yourself to god. Praise be to god."
"Praise be to god." The eight fighters repeated. Upon leaving the camp more than 60 of their fellow fighters fired their AK-47's into the air as a mark of respect.
Author's Note:
So a smallish chapter here but a lot to think about. what was the commander planning? Who is the important government asset that Carina has been assigned to?
Seeing as though the previous chapters were all Charah. Albeit they were many months ago now I thought that I would just make a chapter so it didn't have any Charah in it, just so it doesn't get boring. And as the next chapter is all Charah. So it seemed like a good idea to split it in two, and I wanted to post something after not being around in a while. To get me in the swing of things again. I bet you didn't expect Carina back so soon, I wonder if she is in breach of Sarah's warning to her? I wouldn't like to be in Carina's position if she was, ha!
Are you happy to have the story back? Leave a review. Let me know :)
