[[ Aaaaaaand many years later, a new chapter. I had forgotten all about this story but seeing recent trailers for Devil May Cry 5 reminded me of it. Ended up re-reading my work and remembering how much I enjoyed written. So here it is, a continuation after all this time.

Apologies in advance for typos. I haven't typed up a story in a long time and I want to get the chapter out before I forget it. ]]

"Why do you even care what that asshole has to say," Lady groaned as the two of them made their way down the street. After what Vergil had said to Cassie she didn't want to be in the shop. Luckily for her, Lady had entered the shop shortly afterwards and she begged her to take her out for at least an hour.

Cassie shrugged and let out a sigh. Why was she letting it get to her? She shouldn't care what he had to say. Besides, he had once tried to kill Dante, destroy humanity – she could only imagine whatever else he might have done – and apparently it was alright for him to come back as if nothing had ever happened. Who was he to judge her over a situation she had no control over?

"Look Dante took you in. He decided you couldn't work because it involves you being on you own. Vergil just wants to get a rise out of you. Probably because you slap him in public and 'dishonoured' him' Lady rolled her eyes as she made air quotes but Cassie could only managed to respond with a puzzled look.

"Wait. What? Did I slap him the other night?" she asked, burying her face into her hands as she let out a groan. "No wonder he's being a dick to me." Maybe I should be the one trying to be friendly? Maybe I offended him? She thought. Lady started to chuckle lightly, "I wish I had of been there to see it. Just to see his reaction."

This made Cassie smile. She wished she had the confidence that Lady had. She wasn't afraid of Vergil or anything for that matter. Unlike Cassie, who was always on edge. Every since she first encountered demons and learned about the demon world – it was just more things to fear. She knew that the world was never truly safe, anything could happen to anyone at any given time. But throwing demons into the mix only made her more cautious of the world around her.

"But surely there's something I could do to help out? More than cleaning" Cassie still wanted to contribute somehow. In anyway she could. The thought of Vergil seeing her as some lazy free loader made her angry.

"I don't know, Cassie. Its not like you could take on the odd job here and there." Lady said. She could see Cassie's mind already ready racing, contemplating if she too should become a demon hunter. She looked to Lady and opened her mouth to speak but Lady cut her off. "Oh no, no, no. Dante wouldn't allow it and I don't fancy spending my days training you."

"But-"

"The answer's no. Besides I don't think you'd have the stomach for it." She placed her hand gently on Cassie's shoulder, "It's nothing personal. Now, come on. We should head back."

Cassie nodded her head. There was no point in pursuing the topic anymore. She knew Lady was right, she could never see herself as a demon hunter. Yet it was the only thing she could think of to ease the burning guilt she felt for doing very little for the shop.

The two of them headed back to Devil May Cry, they exchanging a few words every now and again – Cassie didn't really feel like talking. She was more concerned about what she was going to do if she had to pass Vergil again. What mean words he might say to her this time. Dante was right; I should never even look in his direction.

They reached the front door of the shop and Lady said goodbye before heading off in the opposite direction. Taking in a deep breath, she pushed open the doors. What she once considered her home was now becoming her living nightmare.

"Cassie, come down. We're going to get something to eat" Dante shouted up the stairs. She had been in her room since she got back earlier that day. Her room offered her some solace, she didn't have to see Vergil here nor did she risk being abused by him. Climbing off her bed she made her way over to her door and opened it slightly. "I'm not hungry." She shouted back.

She could hear Dante mumbling something before the sound of footsteps started to fill the air, getting louder and louder. He was coming up the stairs to check on her, he really did act like a father to her. "What's wrong?" He inquired, folding his arms and tilting his head to the side. This is what he always did when he was looking for signs she was in distress.

"Nothing." She lied. I don't want to be around your brother, she wanted to say but held her tongue. He raised an eyebrow, which was the next step of his interrogation.

"You expect me to believe that?" he asked, taking another step closer to her. Their eyes were locked, she knew the moment she hesitated and looked away he would know she was lying. "Yep." She managed to get out as the pressure built on her. She wasn't the type of person who liked drama, the last thing she wanted as another argument to break out.

"Really?" He pressed, his stare intensifying. She was at breaking point; it wasn't like her to keep things from Dante. "I want to contribute more." She blurted out; she couldn't hold it in anymore. This surprised Dante, his raised brow now furrowing into a frown.

"You don't have to."

"But I want to. I can't keep living off you and you can't look after me for the rest of my life." She stated, hoping he would see it from her point of view.

Letting out a sigh, Dante leaned back against the wall opposite her room.

"Alright, I get you kid. We can talk about it in the near future. But for now can you please just come get some dinner?" He gave her a half smile, wondering if his response would be enough to appease her. Cassie smiled back, thankful that for once he was treating her like an adult.

"It's not going to be pizza again?" She stepped out of her room closing her door behind her.

"What you mean 'again'? We haven't had pizza this week." He replied, throwing his arm around her as they headed to the stairs. She laughed drily at his reply they had pizza nearly every night of the week.

"You know, even for a demon I bet your cholesterol is ridiculously high."
