Spawns of the Trickster: An MST - Alternate Endings

Disclaimer: I do not own Slayers or any concepts mentioned in this story. This is my recognition that the original tale had many things wrong with it and gives me an excuse to explore other options. Most names are changed to protect the innocent. We don't own Death Note either.

Pokota's version:

"What the hell, Amelia? What happened to the happy ending?!" Lina yelled as she held Amelia in a wrestling headlock.

"It wasn't supposed to be that way! It was supposed to be happy!" Amelia cried.

"It's ironic that Amelia's version had the darkest ending. Perhaps Xelloss' version will be the happy ending after all." Zelgadiss theorized.

"Hey, where are Filia and Xelloss?" Gourry asked.

Xelloss and Filia were at parallel trash barrels near the back of the theater, violently vomiting into them. After cleaning themselves up, they returned to their seats and actually shared a box of chocolate covered mint candies.

"The ending was somewhat satisfying but it wasn't dark enough to erase all those mushy, disgusting goodbye notes." Xelloss said in disgust as he ate a dry croissant to rid the taste from his mouth. The candy wasn't working fast enough.

"It was horrible! The idea that I would love the Namagomi is utterly distasteful! Filia ranted as she drank a fresh cup of tea.

The others gave her a weird look. She returned the look with a confused one of her own.

"Filia-chan, maybe I'm rubbing off on you. You weren't appalled that our daughter slaughtered our son or that Marcus murdered his sister?" Xelloss teased.

"Of course that was deplorable! I figured you all knew that already!" Filia shrieked, tail out and Mace-Sama in hand.

The Slayers crew was saved by Arcanum's appearance.

"Am I to understand that you all are unsatisfied with the ending Amelia-san suggested?" She inquired.

"I didn't want it to end that way! The writer did it, not me!" Amelia whined.

"True, true. I believe it is time for Pokota to take his turn." Arcanum announced.

"Great! I have an idea that I bet no one else thought of!" Pokota pronounced excitedly as he floated up to meet Arcanum at the front of the theater.

"Let us see, shall we?" She suggested, took Pokota's small hand and they entered the screen.

"Tragic Prince Posel, what change did you wish to make?" L-Sama asked when they arrived.

"To be honest, the story stinks! What is cool is the idea that some of them got reborn. So I wanna start the story at the end and continue from today!" He declared proudly, crossing his arms and smirking arrogantly.

L-Sama and Arcanum exchanged confused glances.

"Well, you don't need me for this one, Arcanum." L-Sama commented, taking a step back. Arcanum shrugged and began her chant,

"I call upon the power of the Lord of Time and Space

Grant us permission to travel to a completely different place.

To the plane of existence, the Writer calls real

To hopefully break the happy ending seal."

With that, Arcanum and Pokota returned to the theater where he was immediately attacked by Lina.

"What good will that do, plushy?!" She yelled.

"It'll be interesting this way, instead of the same old story, over and over." He justified.

"Perhaps Pokota was just bored of not being in the story so odds are none of us will be in this one." Zelgadiss suggested. The others just shrugged and sat back in their seats to watch.

Massachusetts - January 15, 2015

Kelly was on her way back to the office. She pushed a strand of her chestnut brown hair out of her face as her hazel eyes watched the traffic as she drove back from her 12:45pm outreach client. It was a typical Thursday, which for Kelly meant Friday as it was the last day of her workweek. She winced slightly as the skin on her knuckles was dry and broken as it got every winter and didn't think anything was out of the ordinary as she pulled her Ford Focus into the parking lot, desperately looking for a spot at ...

North Pond Mental Health Clinic

Charity was a kind, gentle young woman in her mid 20s who loved being a therapist. She cared for clients and her coworkers as she sat in the team room on the basement level, 'shooting the crap' with her favorite coworkers. She laughed at some light-hearted ribbing between Jack and Jamie and pulled her red tresses out of her coat as she prepared to leave. Suddenly, an announcement came over the loud speaker.

"Attention everyone in the building, you are now forbidden to leave until we find certain individuals we are looking for. We have traced at least one of them to this establishment. We have no intention of harming anyone, except those individuals. If you attempt to leave you will find a protective shield surrounding this whole place. When we have found who we are looking for, we will let all of you go."

"We have some of your young people held. If we do not receive complete cooperation, they may not stay in good health." A second voice, more menacing than the first, added.

Of course, screams of terror and stomping could be heard from the first floor overhead. They mixed in with troubled discussions among the employees as many tried escaping by the stairs or elevator. All were bounced back by an invisible force.

As Charity joined her teammates in the crowd, a bright light appeared in the hallway by the elevator. When it faded, a man stood there. The man was fairly tall and young, looking to be about 5'10" and approximately twenty years old. He had long, blond hair and slanted blue eyes.

'He's pretty good-looking.' Charity couldn't help but think. She glanced at her coworker, Jamie, an older woman with unique tastes in men, usually those wearing eyeliner and noticed that she also found him attractive.

"I am Fal-ul-Copt. I mean none of you any harm. I only mean to find the ones I am here for." He spoke and the clinicians could recognize him as the owner of the first voice.

Charity resisted the urge to gasp and immediately wondered where he coworker, Kelly was. She had read all of Kelly's Slayers stories up until now and was shocked to be faced with one of her characters. Fal seemed to be aware of this because when Charity lifted her gaze again, he was staring right at her. He strode purposefully up to her and gently lifted her right hand.

"So here you are. You must come with me." He said firmly and started to pull her away from the crowd.

Her coworkers didn't sit idly by as Jamie quickly grabbed Charity's other hand and was supported by Jack and Rob, two of their few male coworkers. They had no intention of letting go. Fal glared at them at first, but then sighed and turned back to the group.

"I mean her no harm at all. Your colleague is necessary in assisting me to retrieve someone important to me." He said in a calm, gentle tone.

"Yeah right, Buddy! You think we'll let you take her when you're keeping hostages!" Jamie pointed out.

"You're keeping us all hostage!" Rob added.

"I don't want to know how she'd be assisting you!" Jack insinuated, as he worked with sex offending clients as well as victims and had heard a lot of nasty things over the years.

All three didn't let go of Charity as others surrounded them on all sides.

"You're not getting her, so you may as well leave." A small, but strong coworker named Anita, added. She had worked in prisons before so no one messed with her, despite her 4'10" size.

"It seems I shall have to demonstrate my power." Fal stated.

He formed a small ball of light in his hand. The humans were transfixed because there wasn't much for magic in their world except illusions and a nerdy card game. The ball of light travelled to the floor by the feet of a rather loud, opinionated coworker, Layla. She

complained more loudly than she usually did because her feet were on fire. Jack and Rob, who weren't fond of Layla, resisted the urge to laugh as other coworkers helped to put out the flames. Although, she would be fine, her screaming was enough distraction

so Fal was able to escape with Charity.

The Second Floor

"Where the hell have you been Fal?" Sagalia bellowed when Fal teleported in with Charity.

Teleporting was a weird sensation for the young therapist so she was a bit disoriented at first but her instincts kicked in quickly when she noted five young, anxious clients in the waiting area and went to check on them. There were two male clients who had sustained some injuries that looked like small burns. They were being cared for by one of the three female clients who had some EMT training. Upon talking with them, she was surprised to find that all five were Kelly's clients. Apparently, they had all come for varying reasons including medication appointments or picking up paperwork and became trapped by the shield. Richard and Mike had tried to fight and that's why they were injured. Beth had EMT training as she had gone to school for it so she could tend to them properly. Linda, age 25 and Abigail, age 17 had recognized each other because they used to have back to back appointments with Kelly and that started the conversation where they all figured out they had the same therapist.

Sagalia grabbed Charity roughly by the arm and looked her over. He tossed her to Fal who caught her gently and healed the bruise on her arm with magic.

"You cannot see what I see then." Fal commented in disgust toward his father-in-law.

"Okay, that's enough! What's going on here?" Charity shouted, breaking away from Fal's arms and backing up toward the group of clients. They all stood and tried to push her behind them, but she blocked them with her arms. Fal sighed then asked, "young woman, what is your name?"

"Charity," she replied simply.

"Charity, such a nice name and so fitting as she was full of grace and charity." Fal replied.

Charity was silent so Fal continued.

"The truth may be unbelievable but I pray you listen and understand. Sagalia-sama and I come from another world which was destroyed. Our spirits were reborn into people of your world. Our two spirits awoke and now we're seeking out three others. Unfortunately, two of these spirits are evil and need to be destroyed. Despite that, the spirit that resides in you is pure."

"In me, so you need to wake this spirit up, I get that but what happens to me?" Charity asked, fearing the answer.

"You don't matter, human! You'll go to permanent sleep just as the two fools we took over have!" Sagalia answered cruelly.

Charity went stiff with fear and this time the clients were adamant in protecting her, pushing the young therapist behind them and crowding around her on all sides.

"Why do you idiots protect her?" Sagalia challenged.

"Because we know she's do the same for us! The therapists here really care for their clients! We know this because our therapist does!" Linda answered.

"Plus, I've seen her with our therapist. She told me they were friends." Abigail added.

"So we'll protect her like we would our therapist!" Mike added, giving Fal a death glare.

The others nodded in agreement and stood firm, ready to defend.

"Sleep," Fal said simply and the six young humans fell helplessly into a light slumber.

Fal retrieved Charity's unconscious form but was distracted by a banging on from the doctor's office nearby.

"Oh that. I made a little stop to retrieve another spirit. The animal bit me but he came willingly when I threatened to kill it. I thought about killing it anyway but I didn't want to be away too long." Sagalia explained with an evil grin.

He opened the door to reveal a handsome young man in his mid-30s falling out into the waiting area. His hands and ankles were both bound. He was dressed in a plain blue sweatshirt and gray jogging pants. He wasn't wearing shoes, only white socks. He turned as he fell so he didn't break his glasses. He bearded face was twisted in anger and pain as he glared at Sagalia. Then he glanced in Fal's direction and his eyes widened.

"Hey, what have you done to Charity?" He asked, recognizing his wife's friend. Charity stirred in her slumber at the sound of her name.

"I see why Sagalia retrieved you. I look forward to destroying you again." Fal said, glaring at him as he placed Charity on the ground. However, it was enough to awaken her and her cry awoke the clients as well.

"Mark?! What are you doing here?!" She yelled.

The clients looked at the man named Mark and realized they all had seen him somewhere before.

"He seems really familiar." Richard commented aloud.

"Yes, he ...oh I know who he is!" Beth exclaimed and then whispered to her fellow clients, "It's Kelly's husband." The others nodded in agreement.

"Charity, this man you obviously know holds one of the evil spirits I described. The safest way to defeat the spirit is to destroy the human." Fal explained.

"No, you can't! He's a good man and he's the precious husband to a close friend of mine! I won't let you!" Charity argued, ran to Mark's side and started pulling on his bounds. Fal and Sagalia didn't try to stop her as there was no threat.

Mike came up with a pocket knife and cut him free while Richard and Linda helped him stand. Mark struggled to stand due to his bad knees, but he did.

"So this man has a mate that obviously wasn't home and you know this mate as well. How interesting." Fal commented darkly before teleporting to Mark, lifting him in the air by the front of his sweatshirt.

"Where is she? Where is your mate?" He demanded.

"She's all over. She's probably on Main Street as she always seems to be when she calls me. Truthfully, I don't know where she is." Mark answered sarcastically, not intimidated.

"If you knew..." Fal began.

"Come on, seriously? I heard that spirit crap you told Charity. Surely, your human host has seen some action movies. The hero never tells the villain what they want to know." Mark retorted.

Fal threw him roughly to the ground before replying, "Heroes and villains? You have the roles reversed. Why don't I wake up the sleeping idiot and we'll all see who the real villain is?!" Fal suggested with an evil grin before blasting Mark with a beam that engulfed him in light. The light seemed to cause Mark pain and blocked the others from getting to him. Then the clients and Charity were distracted by the ding of the elevator.

Kelly walked off the elevator, dragging her wheeled workbag behind her, seemingly unaffected by the shield, but she became shocked by the scene in front of her.

"Hey Professor VP, what's happening here?" She asked Charity, referring to her by a nickname and trying to wrap her mind around why five of her clients would all be together in the same place at the same time.

"Kelly, run away!" Charity yelled. Her clients echoed the call, but Kelly found herself transfixed by the ball of light in the waiting area. She was drawn to the person inside but couldn't explain why.

"There you are, Sister." Fal said low and menacingly.

The others couldn't hear him but Mark did and he knew he needed to do something drastic. Then he heard a voice in his head.

'We need to save them.'

Fal sent a blast toward Kelly. Charity and the clients screamed, realizing they couldn't stop it in time. The blast connected but when the dust settled, Kelly still stood, now in a complete state of shock. The blast had been blocked by a handsome, young man dressed in black armor, holding a sword made seemingly of black energy. Kelly recognized him immediately as a character she created.

"Marcus?" She questioned. With a glare toward Fal, he turned to Kelly and temporarily lowered his sword.

"Hello, young creator, I was requested to save you but you really should learn to dodge." He said with a smirk.

"Requested?" Kelly questioned, ignoring the obvious Team Four Star reference (AN: Don't own them but they're awesome!).

"Oh no, Mark! If Marcus is here..." Charity started but trailed off.

"Wait, does this have something to do with my husband?" Kelly asked, anxiety rising in her voice. Marcus sheathed his sword and put his hands on Kelly's shoulders.

"My spirit was sleeping inside you husband, Mark's soul. When I awoke, he went to sleep. He asked me to protect you." He explained softly.

"So what happens to him?" Kelly spoke, tears already falling from her eyes.

"He's asleep forever, you stupid girl! Serves you right!" Sagalia said rudely.

Kelly collapsed to the floor in tears. Her clients were instantly all around her to offer comfort. Charity wiped away her own tears and asked of Marcus, "is there really no way to bring Mark back?"

"I honestly don't know. I won't give up until I've exhausted all options though. My mate is asleep so there's no point in me being awake." He replied gently.

"That won't be long anyhow!" Fal added and blasted at Marcus with Holy magic. He took the blast head on to protect the humans behind him. Then Sagalia started blasting him, too. The combined Holy magic was really damaging to Marcus but he held his ground. The barrage paused and he fell to one knee but stayed up. He was bleeding everywhere which surprised him.

"It seems you still have the weaknesses of your human host. Good." Sagalia commented and immediately attacked Marcus at both knees, completely knocking him to the ground. Fal created a barrier, blocking the humans from his prey. He approached Marcus with his eyes closed.

"Now I get the pleasure of destroying you again." He said simply and opened his eyes for dramatic effect.

"So you're still your father's son after all, Mazoku!" Marcus taunted, spitting at Fal's feet.

"Now you die!" Fal screamed in fury and started blasting him again, but became distracted by a dark growing power on the outside of the barrier.

A few moments before

Fal erected a barrier to block the humans trying to help Marcus. All five clients were banging on the barrier, desperate to break through while Charity knelt beside Kelly on the floor. Kelly had stopped sobbing but stared silently into space as tears continued to fall from her eyes. Concerned, Charity tried talking to her but Kelly seemed to look right through her. Inside her head though, a conversation was taking place.

'Fal will kill them both, you know.' A voice said.

'Yes, but how can I stop it?' Kelly asked desperately.

'I can.' The voice replied.

'But if I do that, I won't be myself anymore.' Kelly mumbled in fear. Then she heard Marcus scream in pain.

"I don't care who I get it from! Give me the power to stop Fal! If I can do that, I don't care what happens to me!" Kelly said aloud, causing Charity to gasp and back away as the clients just stared at her in confusion as none of them had watched Slayers.

Real Time

The barrier snapped under the pressure of the dark magic swirling in a cone shape where Kelly once stood. Charity and the clients ran to Marcus and pulled him out of the way and watched in horror as the darkness dissipated and a lone figure stood there.

She was a tad bit taller than their friend/therapist and dressed in a long, black dress, covered by a hooded black cloak. The hood was down so her once chestnut braid could now be seen as long, violet tresses that cascaded down her back and over one shoulder. Kelly's glasses were gone so nothing blocked the view of Xeria Metallium's amethyst purple eyes.

Xeria lifted a hand to her cheek and wiped away a single tear, left behind from Kelly.

"You are a naughty boy, Fal, making our creator face her worst fear to save the love of her life. Her fear was delicious but her desperate plea to save him and stop you was enough to wake me up." Xeria explained.

"I knew you were in there, Xeria. We'll finish this, here and now." Fal responded.

"Oh, indeed. I believe you're familiar with the phrase - the pen is mightier than the sword." Xeria began and reached out her hand, calling her staff to her. The staff transformed back into Kelly's wheeled workbag. From that, she pulled out a notebook with Kelly's favorite baseball team logo on it and a pen. She flipped to about halfway through the book and began writing.

Suddenly, a swirling black vortex opened up and swallowed Sagalia whole. The vortex even burped afterwards. Marcus nearly bust a gut laughing while Charity and the clients looked confused. They did note that the barrier surrounding North Pond was gone.

"How did you do that?" Fal asked somewhat anxiously.

"Light, eat your heart out. Please. That would be fun to watch." Xeria replied with an evil laugh. Marcus chuckled from the sidelines as did Charity and at least three of the clients that got the reference.

"How did you do that?" Fal yelled with emphasis.

"I was sleeping in our creator's soul, dumbass brother of mine. I learned the secret to her writing power. I'm writing the story now. I wonder if you'd call that meta. I suppose I should kill you or have you sucked into oblivion, too, but I suppose Charity deserves a chance to find you so I'll put you back to sleep and send your host home with no memories of this." Xeria replied, smirking evilly and with a few more words, Fal vanished completely.

"Wait, you could've let me see who he was." Charity reminded.

"I could have but I didn't." Xeria responded, jotting down more text.

"Why not?" Charity asked.

"Come now, you really want to ask me a question?" Xeria was incredulous but sighed and continued, "So be it, it's a secret." She finished in the usual way.

Charity resisted the urge to slug her when both Xeria and Marcus were consumed by light. When the light faded, Charity and the clients had to blink a few times to readjust their vision. When they did, they were happy to see both Kelly and Mark unconscious on the ground. Kelly's notebook and pen were propped on top of her workbag. When Kelly and Mark awoke and saw each other, they immediately embraced and held each other as if they were afraid to let go.

"Isn't that nauseatingly romantic, Marcus?" Xeria commented. Marcus smiled and nodded.

Kelly looked in complete shock as the character she had created back in college to pay tribute to her favorite anime series and character stood before her, in reality.

"You look surprised, O brilliant creator. I was just resting in your soul." Xeria reminded her.

"Writing about you or sensing you is completely different than seeing you in person, Xeria. Wait, if you're not resting within my soul anymore then ..." Kelly started but broke off as she knew the answer.

"Yes, I will cease to exist once again. Well, it was fun while it lasted. Nice digs, by the way. It's a lot cleaner than the old place but that elevator sucks!" Xeria complained. Kelly bit off a chuckle as she noted the clients nodding in agreement.

"Well, I guess this is goodbye again." Marcus said in a depressed tone as he took Xeria's hand.

"It was good to be with you again, even if it was only a short while." Xeria replied in an equally saddened tone.

"Wait, you guys won't be together?" Mark asked, grabbing Kelly's hand.

"Oblivion is just that. Oblivion. I only wish we could've had a chance to have our ..." Marcus began but Xeria stopped him.

"Please, don't say it. The pain is too much to bear." She replied. Marcus nodded.

"Oh my God, Xeria. What have I done? I'm sorry, so sorry, Xeria!" Kelly, realizing what they referred to, broke down into sobs. Mark and Charity comforted her.

"Do not fret, dear creator, I understand. You were young and ridiculously stupid. Now you're older and at least somewhat wiser. I'm sure you'll have a better go at that role than I did." Xeria said with a smirk.

"What are you talking about?" Kelly asked in confusion.

"You really don't know? Come on, aren't you the one that always tells your clients 'only you have a doctorate on you'?" Xeria teased. When Kelly looked at her seemingly more confused, she feigned a sigh and continued.

"You knew the test was wrong."

Kelly took a moment, came to a realization, and her eyes widened as her hand and eyes immediately positioned themselves on her stomach. She looked up at Xeria, who simply nodded with a smile. Tears mixed with happiness and fear came unbidden to Kelly's eyes.

As Xeria turned away, she took Marcus' hand and squeezed it as tightly as possible. He put a hand under her chin and gave her a quick kiss. As they approached and entered the void, they could hear Kelly yelling.

"I swear to you both, especially you Xeria! I'll make it right! Somehow, I'll make it right!"

The next morning

As they took a moment to give their ferocious corgi, Lina a fuzz on the head, Kelly and Mark confirmed Xeria's observations when a new test revealed two lines.
