"I have loved the stars

And I have loved her

And I'm sorry universe

But you do not compare." - lorelukes (via tumblr)

Ms. Kraska adjusts her glasses. The glare of the sun's reflection burns Bella's cheek.

"Tell me about Rosalie."

"Well," Bella shifts, her hands shake. "She's kind of mean."

Ms. Kraska stops taking notes and fixes a concerned look on Bella.

"But," Bella hurries on to say. "But that's how she protects herself against the world. It's a dam to protect herself from the sea of life. And I knew that, I know that. But god." Bella rambles, scraping her nails across her thighs. "But god, she's beautiful. And she's so nice and caring. Once she got me a bowl of cereal before I was awake and she got me a glass of water without me asking, and I don't understand why she wants to be around me but she does and-"

"Oh," Ms. Kraska says, "I see. You love this girl with all your heart and soul."

Bella sits, stunned into silence. "What?"

"Have you told her yet? Does she know? You don't have forever."

"Nobody does."

Bella's seen Rosalie in the sun before. But every time, Bella feels a vacuum suck the air out of her lungs. In her life, she doesn't believe that she's ever seen something so beautiful.

Rosalie turns, sees her, smiles and winks.

But then again, she sees Rosalie like this, happy and playful, and ache and pain become a distant, unfamiliar memory.

"Rose," Bella laughs, coming up behind her, kissing her hair. "I have something to tell you."

"And what is that, my sweet girl?" Rosalie grins, dragging Bella to sit next to her.

"You're beautiful."

Rosalie responds by kissing Bella's eyebrow. "Thank you. Your face also has very appealing symmetry."

Bella chuckles, leaning into Rosalie's side.

Bella knows she's scared, and unfamiliar with the open feelings. So she doesn't blame her when Rosalie's compliments come out robotic.

"What are you thinking about?"

Bella hums, playing with the blonde's fingers. "How long the calm before the storm will last."

Rosalie sighs. "Unfortunately, not very long." She opens her mouth, only to close it, and then open it again, as if she's trying to decide something. "I- I don't know if you know this. But tonight we are having a family meeting."

Bella sits up, brow furrowed. "About what?"

Rosalie fights with how to phrase her words. "We believe Edward has become a danger to you. That the thirst for your blood has become too much to handle for him. Jasper used the phrase "gone insane" and personally, I believe as much. I don't think Edward is in there anymore."

"It's supposed to hurt your first time. Hush, hush, Bella, you'll wake up Charlie."

Bella sits up, nails digging into her arms, self-loathing and pain poisoning her bones.

Bella, clawing at her hair and crying, vomits bile and blood over the side of the porch.

"Bella? Bella!"

"I'm so so so sorry Rose, I didn't mean to. I didn't want it." Bella sobs, desperately clutching at her hand.

Rosalie holds Bella's head in between her hands. "Bella, what are you talking about? What did he do to you?"

Bella looks at her, heart breaking. "I'm so sorry. I didn't want to and he made me."

"Bella what did he make you do?"

Bella shakes in her hands, "he, he said I asked for it. That I was teasing him."

Rosalie freezes. Suddenly she's back in the alley way in Rochester, suddenly she's back in 1933 and she has blue eyes and she can smell the smoke and alcohol on their breaths.

"I know you want this, Rose."

"I-" Venom drips out of Rosalie's mouth, her black eyes are murderous. "I'm going to fucking kill him. I'm going to fucking kill him."

"Please." Bella cries, grasping onto Rosalie's shirt, trying to breathe, trying to see, she can't breathe, she can't breathe. "Please don't leave me. I'm so sorry."

"Bella," Rosalie manages, fingers deep into the wood of the porch. "Look at me- Bella, look at me. This is not your fault." She watches Bella break down, curling into a ball. Sobs wrack Rosalie's body, tortured by her past, and horrified that this has happened to her beautiful girl. "I'm going to kill him. I'm so sorry. I'm going to kill him. You did nothing wrong. You did nothing wrong. I'm so sorry. God I'm so, so sorry. How long ago did this happen? I'm so so sorry."

They hold each other, memories of the past imploding in their veins, in the hollows of their lungs. They hold each other in grief until the sun hides away, promising to come back to inflict new horrors upon them.

Later, when a daughter comes home to inform her family that they've been hosting a monster. One would see a mother fall to her knees, hands covering her eyes. One would see a father fall into a chair in disbelief, staring onto the floor, trying to forget what he just heard. One would see the brothers of the monster clutch at their chest, rage and agony filling their eyes. One would see a sister of the victim scream, her body shaking with unshed tears.

And one would see the lover of the victim, sister of the monster, fall to her knees, gripping at her hair, promising to slay the monster.

And nobody disagrees with her.

Fiery red hair and pale hands hold onto a red shirt.

She sniffs, and her grin promises death.

Here comes war and pain, pain, pain.
