"Hey Alvin, whatcha doin'?".
He looked up to see Asriel, who at the same time, was stuffing his face with pie.
"Reading.".
"You read in your spare time? And a history book, of all the other books. You have some weird hobbies.".
"What do you do with your spare time?".
"Usually I play with Chara and Frisk.".
"Then why aren't you with them?".
"Because I was going to ask if you wanted to play with us?".
"Thanks, but not right.".
"Why not?".
"I want to finish this book.".
"What? But that will literally take you years.".
"Well I'll get back to in you in a few years.".
"Then just come outside with us before you start your reading quest. We're picking a bunch of flowers for a bouqet for Mom.".
"Pass.".
"I'm not taking no for an answer, or pass, or anything to mean no.".
"Are we really going to do this?".
"Yup.".
He sighed
"Fine, just let me finish this page.".
"What page are you on?".
"Thirty six.".
"Wow really, didn't you start that book ten minutes ago?".
"Alright, done let's go.".
He bookmarked and closed the history book, then followed Asriel outside.

One Month Later
Done. Alvin finally finished that history book. It never took hin that long to read a book, though a history boom wasn't the most interesting read ever. But there was an interesting passage near the end of the book. It was the story of the soul children. It told of four children who fell in the underground at the same time. The king of the underground, wanting to free the monsters, tried to capture the four children, failed, and the children went into hiding and were never seen again. It this passage was true, then it meant that unless she hadn't know about this, Toriel had lied to him when he first fell down here. But then again, there was no telling if this book was old or new. Toriel kept her library so well kept that ahe har books from before Asriel was born that looked brand new. Those four children could have been long dead or still down here, either way, the he was perfectly fine with staying down here. It wasn't like he had any reason to want to go back up to the surface. He'd never left the ruins, as he'd learned that's what this place was called, but he had no reason to.
"ALVIN! SAVE ME!".
Asriel ran into the room and hid under the couch he was sitting on.
"What?".
"Chara's trying to cut off my tail.".
"What'd you do?".
"Nothing! We were reading a book abou lizards, and when she read that lizards could regrow their tails, she wanted to see if goats could.".
A moment later Chara walked into the room.
"Greetings Alvin, have you seen Asriel?".
"No.".
That technically wasn't a lie. He never saw Asriel. He moved so fast he only saw a blur slide under the couch.
"He might be outside with Frisk.".
She walked outside to look for Asriel, who jumped out from under the couch.
"Thanks Alvin.".
"You know she's going to realize you're not out there soon.".
"What am I going to do? How do I get her to leave me alone?".
"Ask nicely?".
"Really?".
"I don't know, this is your problem.".
"Oh come on, you have to help me! Just talk to her or something, you're the only one who can control her!".
"Where'd you get that idea from?".
"There you are.".
Chara was there, holding a knife woth a devious smile on her face.
"NOOOOOO! I'M FINISHED!".
"Chara, gaots don't regrow their tails.".
"So you had seen him earlier? Hmm it's not like you to lie Alvin. Now you need to be punished.".
Knowing Chara, she wouldn't hesitate to cut out all of his 'non-vital organs'.
"Technically, I didn't lie, I hadn't seen Asriel, I'd only spoken to him.".
He closed his book and was about to go to his room.
"Wait! What about me!?".
"You two have fun.".
It was at that moment Asriel knew...he was screwed. Luckily for him, or more like unluckily for her, Frisk walked in just then.".
"Greetings Frisk, care to join our scientific experiment?".
"Help me.".
Alvin layed down on his bed. On days like these he wished he'd slept in. Now that it was nice and quiet, he began to think about that passage from the history book. Toriel had told him that breakong the barrier was impossible, but if that passage was true, and wasn't a thousand years old, then maybe it was possible. Though, if it was possible, wouldn't monsters try to find those children. Maybe they really didn't mind it down here, and if every monster was like Toriel, he could see that. His thoughts were interrupted by a loud knocking on his door. It sounded again a few seconds later. He opened the door and a very frantic Frisk just rushed in.
"What are you doing?".
She locked the door behind her, then started going through his drawers, probably looking for a notepad and a pencil.
"Let me guess, Chara chased you out of the living room.".
She nodded, still searching.
"So where's Asriel?".
Her eyes widened and she froze.
"You left him for dead?".
She was about to run out of the room to go save Asriel, but then remembered, this was Chara she was dealing with. She looked at Alvin.
"No. I'm not getting involved.".
She gave him the puppy dog eyes.
"When has that ever worked?".
She started thinking. She needed Alvin, she couldn't face Chara alone, not if she wanted to remain in one piece. Begging wouldn't get her anywhere, but she had an idea.
'She finally left.'.
Alvin went back to thinking about about that passage. He'd have ask Toriel how old that book was. Speaking of which, where was Toriel? His door opened again, and this time both Frisk and Asriel ran in and hid under his bed. Now this was starting to get irritating.
"Get out.".
"But-".
"Get out.".
"But Chara-".
"Now.".
"Greetings Alvin.".
Fine, then he'd just get take Care of the source of the problem. He got up and began walking towards Chara, causing her loom slighly confused.
"What are you-".
He grabbed the hand she held the knife in and started dragging her down the hallway. When he got to the living, he wrenched the knife out of her hand, dropped her on the floor and walked back into his room, which Frisk and Asriel were still hiding in.
"Out.".
They saw him holding the knife, they both scrambled from under his bed, out the door. Finally, peace and quiet. He wouldn't he able to think cleary for a while, so he decided to take a nap to cool off.
