A Great Lost - Ninja Turtles
Chapter 13: The Next Target
Pain was something which never registered in my mind. I could not remember if I had ever felt it and didn't understand the concept of it. Though I knew what it was and it was something other beings tried to avoid. But it seemed inflicting it on other beings was just as easy as it was for me. I had encountered a lot of beings which inflicted it on others. My Master was one and it didn't seem the creature was any different, though it didn't go as far as taking the light out of its' victims.
As for my Master, taking the light out of its' victim was something my Master's wielder ordered me to do quite often. Most of the disobedient soldiers was punished by my swords and seeing the light going out of their eyes was fascinating. Their pleas and screams before I sink my swords into their bodies is nothing to me. But when the red liquid is being spilled on the floor and dripping from the metal of my swords, there is a hint of warm and cold mix battling inside me. And then the soldiers fall to the ground, just as all the beings I have been ordered to kill before, with that fire inside their eyes which curiously goes away and left with just an empty stare. Death it's called. But what that means is beyond me. Where does one go when the light goes out?
In the room I was in now, was filled with light which stung in my eyes. As I had predicted, I had been punished. But it did not seem as a punishment as I had not faced my own sword and see what happens when one die. The soldiers which always followed me around had been punished by my swords. I had cut their throats before they could lay out their reasons to why I had not returned before the first light and how they had lost track of me. The wielder of my Master did not tolerate excuses. A fault should be own up to and take the punishment without complaint.
The punishment I was enduring was being locked into a white room with no shadows to hide in. I was ordered to stick to the shadows and not to be seen. But in this room, there was impossible to live up to that order. Whenever I was seen from the window I had been ordered to stab myself with the short blunt knife. Every time I sunk the blunt blade into my stomach, sides, shoulders arms or legs, there was a tiny, tiny hope in the back of my mind which wanted to feel what the creature had felt whenever I had sliced it. And that disobeying order earned yet another stab. Feelings was useless, my Master told me, and yet in the back of my mind I craved to feel.
For how long I was in that room, I did not know. The room was not just filled with the blinding light, it was also drowned in a high pitched sound which made me disoriented and the smell of burned rotten flesh which made me nauseous. The temperature also shifted from burning hot to freezing cold. Everything to break my mind even further into fully submission. Weak from the loss of blood, the lack of sleep and not being feed finally got to me. Standing in the middle of the room with the blunt blade plunged into my stomach, the white room seemed to disappear and replaced by the comfort of the dark.
At first the high pitching sound echoed in the dark, but soon it got quiet, the only sound left was the steady beat of my heart. As I listen to each beat which was kind of soothing, it was replaced with sounds which seemed surprisingly familiar. Nothing at all like the sounds I heard in my time with my Master. Though it sometimes was rough, it was warm and easy, not the cold and hard roughness in the sounds.
A word entered my mind, peace. It was not the word for when two sides had stopped fighting a war. No, it was for something else. Like when you were done, no more orders to obey and follow through. No more fighting and no more protecting. No more responsibility. No more need. Just peace. Quiet. A promise of something better only to be taken away.
But hadn't I always been with my Master? The first memory I could recall was of my Master slashing its two blades across my face and the wielder's green eyes growing big as it did not get the reaction it had anticipated.
"Kurōn!" Snapping back to the white room, I turned to the familiar sound of the being which mostly feed me and tended to my wounds. Behind the being was my Master and its' wielder, not looking very pleased.
The being spoke again, though its' words got lost to me as I did not take orders from any other than my Master. I did not have to wait long for that. "Kurōn, take out the knife and give it to Dr. McLain," my Master ordered, and I did as I was ordered. Without any effort I pulled the blade out and placed it in the beings' outstretched hand and waited for further instructions. Though my Master turned to the being and spoke, "I want his wound tended to. Then I want 'im being feed. Then you take 'im to me so I can give 'im his next assignment."
"There will take some time, these wounds may not be life threatening, but still the infection risk is high if not treated properly," the being spoke to my Master as it looked over my self-inflicted wounds.
"You have until dark to treat 'im." My Master spoke flatly, also with a hint of threat, then turned to me to order me to feed and tend to the wounds. "As soon as the sun has set, you come to me for your next assignment." Then my Master turned and walked out of the white room, leaving me with the being which grunted heavily in frustration and muttered something which I did not bother to listen to.
I followed the being and did what I was ordered to do. Once it got dark, I had regained some of my energy and strength. The wounds was bandaged with a black color as it should not make me stick out in the shadows. Kneeling in front of my Master, I waited for my next orders.
"Kurōn, your next assignment." The wielder threw me a photo, which I easily caught between my two fingers. I looked at it and it was a photo of a being with red hair and green eyes, walking out of a shop called 'Second Time Around'. Familiar. Had I seen this being before? "I want you to crush April O'Neil's spine, paralyzing her and then burn down the building with her inside."
With a single nod, I gave my Master the confirmation I had understood the order. Then I put the photo in my pocket and stood.
"Do not let yourself be seen." Another nod and then I was gone.
Moving across town was quite easy. Most of its' populations was not outside, though those that were never even bothered to look up. Still we remained in shadows as we moved from one roof to another. A storm was closing in and I could already smell the fresh cool air which always came with a storm. The shadows was growing darker as the sky was covered with black clouds. On the way to the building where this being, April O'Neil lived in, we past the building of the old headquarters. It was there I got my first memory and soon after the wielder had taken the whole clan to Japan.
As we got to the building across the street from the shop, I scanned the area. The wielder had told me the creatures spent much of their time there. The shop at street level was dark and probably closed hours before, while there was light from the other floors. At times I could see movement in the windows. I could confirm the target was within the building.
"Do it now." One of the four soldiers which had been ordered to follow me, ordered impatiently from behind me. My Master never wanted me to go alone, though I did not know why. I completed my tasks, I followed orders and did everything without being noticed and still I had to have them tagging along. It was fine as long as they didn't interfere with my orders. Though the last four knew better than to give me orders which I wouldn't listen to anyway, but these ones had jet to learn it. They would soon find out.
Ignoring the soldiers behind me, I kept my eyes on one particular window. A being with red hair was moving back and forth in front of it while reading a book.
"I gave you an order!" The soldier spoke again. When I did not comply to its' meaningless order, its' body grew tense and I did not need to see it to know it went for its' weapon.
The sound of a sword being unsheathed was to me, the most beautiful sound in the world. It was something which was constant and recognizable, something which would never change. I reached for my own placed on my back. There was a hesitation in the soldier and as I turned around, the other three soldiers had backed away from their comrade, leaving 'im to his own foolish mistake.
Once it had realized it was alone in standing against me, it began to fumble with its grip on the handle of the sword. As it would not step down, I decided this one was a threat to my mission and had to be eliminated. My stance was calm and each muscle in my body was relaxed. But in a split second every muscle responded just as needed to cross the small distance and beheading the threat. It had not even seen me coming and the body was still in hesitation as it slumped to the roof, the head rolling away a few feet. The other soldiers just stood there, watching the head rolling.
Once I had gotten the point across, I sheathed my swords and moved back to the spot I had just stood in. One more look at my surroundings to scan for any complications and once sure there weren't any, I got over to the building. There was a fire escape at the side of the building which led down to the ally beneath. Carefully I walked it down to a window which I knew would take me to the right floor. As I looked through it, I could see no one. The room had no lamps turned on, the only light came from the large screen on the wall and a room across this one. Carefully I open the window as quietly as possible. How I knew I could just open it was beyond me and my mind dropped the question as soon as it had entered my mind. The sound from the screen was drowning the sounds from the city, which was a good thing. Before I slipped into the darkest shadows in the corner, I closed the window behind me.
From the hall, a shadow was moving. After only a few seconds I heard a door closing very gently and just a second later a thin form stepped into the room. No doubt, it was my target. A soft melody came from the being as it walked into the kitchen. The humming made something warm go through my stomach. It was nice. Comfortable. Familiar. I didn't like it. It just took a minute or so for the being to return and it was drowned by the light from the screen. Once I could see its' face, I could see the green eyes which was framed by the red hair much alike as the photo had shown. Its' expression was nothing I had seen before. There was no tension in it. No hostility. By the look of the body, it seemed weak and defenseless. Nothing at all like the creatures nor the wielder of my Master. Weak or strong, it did not matter. My Master's order was repeating itself in my mind and I wasn't going to disobey. Slowly and carefully I reached for a katana on my back. The beautiful sound when unsheathing a sword made my presence known.
The being turned to the dark corner I stood in with a face similar to so many I had sneaked up on before. "Who's there?" The alarm in its voice was also a familiar sound I had heard before. When the being got no answer, it kept asking, "Casey is that you?" With no answer, it began to slowly back away and its' hand began to search for something behind it. "Raph? Don? Mikey it's not funny!"
Almost at the wall, it quickly turned on the light. My eyes was blinded for just a second. A second was all it needed for the being to take in my appearance and process it. This one was much quicker than the rest I had encountered. "No..." The soft sound escaped its' mouth. There was a different sound in its' tone. An alarm which I had never heard before. It was like it had seen me. It was almost... mesmerizing.
"Don't come any closer." It yelled in a pitching tone as it backed away to the hall which it had emerged from just a few minutes earlier. It was strange that the being didn't seem to head for a way out but wanting to get in deeper. Most beings tried to flee once they seen me.
It grabbed a hold of a lamp and pulled at the cord. A lamp didn't seem like an efficient weapon to protect oneself with against a katana. But at least this one tried to defending itself, which not many of the beings I had killed before had done. I couldn't help but tilting my head at it, I was curious to see what this one was going to do next. I took a few steps closer, just to see its' reaction. It pulled the lamp closer to itself, but was ready to strike with it if needed. The body was tense and there was no doubt it tried to fight the natural urge to flee. There was something about this being which was interesting, not at all like the wielder of my Master. I noticed I wanted to understand the difference between them. Though their frames was almost the same, was this one as good of a fighter? Both of their eyes was green, but was this beings' as cold? Had this one killed? Was it even able to fight?
But the being wouldn't let me figure it out as it threw the lamp at me. As a reflex I cleaved it in two and the pieces fell down at my sides, shattering into thousands of pieces by the impact. In that short time, the being had fled down the hall and by the sound of it, thrown open a door.
"Mommy what's going on?" A small voice ask from back there.
Somehow I had missed there had been a second being. How was that possible? Not knowing if it was a threat or not, I unsheathed the other katana before I followed the being down the hall and got to an open door. Inside there was a dim blue light in the room with a lot of colors and things. One of the two windows was open wide and it seemed like the being had gone through it. Though I knew there was no ladder nor stairs which meant it must have jumped down. Though I doubted it had taken that exit.
"Mommy I'm scared." The sound came from underneath the bed.
"Sschy!"
I took a few steps inside the small room, heading to the bed but the being with the green eyes and the red around its' face got up on the other side, holding a wooden bat in its' hand. Another tiny being got up behind it, clinging to the targets' leg. It pushed the small one protectively behind it. The tinny being didn't seem like a threat and by the large ones' reaction earlier, made sense now. It didn't head for the exit as it wanted to protect the small one.
"When mommy says 'now' you run for the door and then out of the building, okay?" The being whispered to the small one, though it knew I had heard every word of it.
"Okay." The small one gave a nod and prepared itself to run.
"Now!" The target lunched at me and stroke with the bat at my head.
I crossed my swords over me, catching the tip of the bat between them and bringing it to a stop. The small one slipped behind me and I could hear its' small footsteps run to the large room where I had entered. The target, which probably believed I was going to hurt the small one, tried to keep my attention on it. Not that it had to bother. Though it could not move the bat away, it still gave it a try. Once realizing it would not budge that easily, it made an attempt to push me off of my feet, but I followed her movement and walked back into the hall and up against the wall.
The small one never made it to the exit, as it had changed its' mind and was standing at the end of the hall, watching us. Its eyes was on me, they where big and blue. Something in its' face told me it recognizes me, but still that I was a complete stranger.
Turning my attention back to the target. I released the bat and the being stumbled back a few steps before gaining its' footing. It lunged at me once again, swinging the bat at me which I dodged easily. Though being pinned to the wall was making it difficult to counterattack and I rolled to the side. Now standing between the two beings, the large one noticed the small one.
"Leo I told you to run!" It asked the small one with a pitching voice. It swung the bat once again, trying to force me up against the wall once again, which it succeeded with.
The name had startled me. It sounded familiar. It was important somehow. Looking at the small being, it felt wrong. It should not have the name.
The large being swung again while it kept telling the small one to run. Knowing this had to end rather quickly, I blocked the bat with both of my swords, forcing it out of its' hands. Its eyes grew wide as it stared into mine underneath the shadow of my hat. With a kick in its stomach, it few across the hall and into the room where the small being stood frozen. It hit the floor hard as it began to scream, followed by the small ones'.
The small being fell to the targets side with water running down its face."Mommy!" It was tugging on the large ones' arm, trying to help it get up faster. It ceased to be a threat as it wasn't capable to do much other than scream and yell.
"Run away..." It whispered as it tried to sit up.
With just a few steps, I had crossed the hall and stood over two the beings. The target pushed the small one away, making it fall to the floor with a thump. The large one turned its head up to me and the eyes grew wide one again, but not like before. It was more similar to the small one once it had somehow recognized me. Tilting my head once more at the being in front of me, I plunged my katana down on its lower back, knowing for sure I had severed its spine and made it paralyzed for the rest of its life. It screamed so loud it overpowered the sound from the screen.
"Mommy!" The small one screamed again but with a higher tone, more water ran down its face. It fell down to the targets' side once again, asking it to tell it what to do. But the large one was just screaming and water had begun to run down its face as well.
The red liquid flooded its back and turning its clothes red. I just stood there for a few seconds, watching the beings.
"I… I love you… Leo" The large one told the small one between shallow breaths.
My eyes drew to the small being. Something inside me still felt wrong whenever the large one called the small one that. A flash of pain went through my head and a image came with it. An image of one of the creature, but none of the three I had seen before. This one had blue across its face and katanas on its back. As far as I knew, I had never encountered this creature before.
My mind was telling me to leave. I had to leave. Now. I turned around, my eyes searched for something to complete the orders. I had paralyzed the target as I was ordered, now to complete it. There was a box of matches on the small table in the middle of the room. I walked over to it and picked them up and light a few.
"What are you-" the large being asked from behind me but stopped as it saw me put the fabric running down the windows on fire, except the one I had entered.
"Mommy..." The small one pleaded.
The fire began to spread and I moved over to the window I was going to exit. I could already feel the heat against my skin and the smoke in the air.
"Wait, don't leave..." The large one pleaded and began to cough. I did not know why I turned to look at it, but I did. "Leo. Please don't leave 'im here..." It was holding the small one close and had its hand covering the small ones mouth so it wouldn't breath in the dangerous air.
A strange feeling filled my stomach. Again the meaning of it was unknown to me and I had never felt it before. My eyes fell to the small being once again. There was an urge to... take the small being out of the danger. Though some part of my mind told me to leave now, the assignment had been completed and this being was not a part of it. But the urge was stronger. With quick steps, I walked over to the pair while avoiding the fire which had spread to the floor. The large one understood what I was going to do, embraced the small one as much as it could and it was clear to me it was fighting to keep its conscious. Once done, the large one pushed the small one closer to me and it began to protest.
"No mommy, no! I don't wanna leave you. Mommy!" The small one screamed as I picked it up and put it under my arm. It was kicking and screaming, trying to do everything which would make me let it go. "Let go of me! MOMMY! NO!" A small part of me considered it, thinking it was too much of a bother to help the being. But the fight in it was kind of intriguing. So small and already such a good fighter. With the right training it could become a worthy opponent.
From the stairways out in the hall, I heard footsteps running up them. I could also hear the sirens from the end of the street and they were coming closer. Knowing I had to leave now, I quickly walked over to the window here I had entered and smoothly got out with the small being under my arm. The fire grew wilder inside once more air came flowing in. The small being kept screaming and it was going to make my presence known. With a hit to its neck, the being went limp in my arm and I was thankful for the quiet.
I followed the fire escape down to the alley beneath and walked over to the edge of it. The sirens and the trucks had passed us and stopped in front of the building. I saw more beings run out of it and some was just standing there watching the burning building. Carefully I placed the small being on the street so it would easily be found and then I slipped back to the shadows.
Once back on the building where the three soldier and one dead being was waiting, I turned to look at the burning building. The feeling entered my stomach once again and it made me to feel sick. It was not my place to question my Master's orders, but this simply felt wrong. That was the feeling I had felt inside. Wrong.
Oh my gosh! He did not just do that! No! I refuse to believe it! Ah poor April! And poor little Leo! He's losing his mommy... No April... She can't die, not now when she has a little son! T.T Is she going to be okay? She will right? Sure you know if she survives it! Tell me! If you know then tell me, please!
Thank you for reading!
