Disclaimer: I don't own OHSHC.
Kaede
I woke up to a hypnotizing ceiling fan, a cold towel, and a tingling right hand. Darkness still prevailed as I blinked my eyes awake. I waved my arms in the air as I waited for the blood to rush back into my deflated hands.
Groaning and stretching, I sat up in my bed. My fever was gone, and so was everyone else.
Oh wait.
...Nevermind.
Ootori sat, sleeping, on the coach adjacent to my bed. I checked the time. 5 am. As much as I'd like to piss him off, I can't wake him up; he stayed overnight for me, for goodness' sake. I grabbed my blanket and draped it over him. If he gets a cold, then I'll be obligated to nurse him.
I took a moment to stare at him. "...as I thought, he's cuter when he's sleeping." I smirked to myself.
Kyoya
Shoot. I accidentally fell asleep on the couch. What is this...? A blanket was draped over me.
I stood up quickly.
Oh shoot, she woke up earlier than me.I was planning to leave before she woke up, dammit.
I went towards the doorway, and stepped on something. Goat slippers. She must've left them out for me."Oi, Ootori, you awake?!" I heard a shout from the kitchen.
"Yes, yes..." I replied. I hurried to where she was. To my surprise, she was in a goat apron, making fried rice.
"Wow...the great Ootori Kyoya, nursing me back to health," she said dryly, with a glint in her eye.
"You were the one who grabbed my hand before I could go."
"You're lying."
I took out the voice recorder.
She took out her phone.
"What do you have on me?" I raised an eyebrow.
"I don't know, I just hoped you'd somehow get the idea I have major dirt on you," she shrugged.
She's a natural comedienne.
"But what did I say?"
"You said two things."
"Ahhhh...the Haruhi thing." She smirked. "I was fully conscious for that."
"Why you...!" I chased her around the kitchen island.
"Haruhi's contacts~" She laughed, swinging her spatula.
As fast as she is, I caught up to her and ruffled her hair.
"HEY!" She reached up and ruffled my hair. "Have fun with dandruff!"
We stopped for a second.
Before I realized it, I was practically hugging her from the back. Am I supposed to get embarrassed...? Shirai turned around.
"Shirai...?"
She looked into my eyes. Both eyes. And glomped me.
"I've needed this for 5 years, so give me 5 minutes." She squeezed tighter. I wrapped my arms around her.
"Can't say the same." She headbutts me.
"Are you embarrassed?"
"So you did look into my eyes."
"Ootori uses avoid! Not effective!" Cute.
"... I'm embarrassed."
"So why are we hugging?"
"You were the one to hug me."
"You were the one to nurse me."
"You were the one to move back to Japan."
"You were the one to get me to join the host club."
"You were the one to get sick."
"Sorry, entirely my fault."
We hugged in silence for a moment. She dug her head next to mine and leaned against my ear.
"I think I like you." She says in softly, not in the way she does her many threats, but tenderly and sweet. I never thought I'd say this, but my heart beated faster. Clichéd, I know, but it's true. I wanna see her face, but hugging her is first priority.
"I wonder why you'd ever think that." She nudges me, but it doesnt hurt. I take a deep breath. "...I like you too." I'm taken aback by my own words. But, logically, it makes sense. All these unconscious thoughts and feelings can be explained by those 4 words. I shiver. Never thought that I could say them, but knowing Shirai, she'd find a way to hear them.
"Not Haruhi?"
"You wouldn't make that mistake."
"Yeah, but I refuse to believe you'd choose me over an angel."
"Yeah, same." It's the toe this time. "How about Kiyoshi?"
"You know the answer," she squirms, and I hug her tighter. "Can I call you Kyoya now?"
"Yeah, sure."
"...and?"
"...And I'll call you Kaede." Don't tell her, but I've wanted to call her Kaede for a while.
"I'm extremely out of character in doing this," she said. The tips of her ears were a slightly reddish hue.
"I love you." I beat her to it, but now I'm embarrassed. She looks at me with both eyes. She snickers.
"Dammit, you're saying the truth." I squeeze her again, nuzzling her head. "I love you too."
"So how about the fiance?"
"Actually, my parents paired me up with a second fiance." She grinned.
"In case you're wondering, it's a man named Ootori Kyoya." She buried her face again. As she talked, I could feel the heat of her breath on my chest. "By the way, can we hold a bet on who'll figure out we're together first?"
"Winner chooses where to go on our first date." We didn't agree on a date, but I'll assume so. "No telling people, just let them figure it out."
"I pick Haruhi." Dammit.
"Fine, Mori."
"What, but how would he express that he knows?"
"There's a cut scene to a light bulb."
"Can I kiss you?" I'm face to face with her now. I should kiss her. Okay, now I'm flustered. Is this really Kaede? Actually, yeah, she'd act like this. "You're so cute." That's what the boyfriend's supposed to say. Oh shoot, she's reading my mind. She snickered.
Oh well. I nudge her on the forehead and kiss her. My arms move to her waist as hers slide to my neck. She's taller than I thought.
"As I thought, Kyoya's the best." She pulled back, grinning.
I kissed her again.
"SHOOT, THE FRIED RICE!" Kaede ran out of my embrace to stir the rice.
I guess food gets priority.
RING RING RING.
"Shoot, that's Tamaki's ring tone."
