Red Arrow
"Therefore I vow in my own name and on behalf of the Éothéod of the North that between us and the Great People of the West there shall be friendship for ever: their enemies shall be our enemies, their need shall be our need, and whatsoever evil, or threat, or assault may come upon them we will aid them to the utmost end of our strength."
The Oath of Eorl
The morning after the events of Fair Game
In the morning, he leads his wife and brother up into the hills. They talk about their troubled borders and what is to be done.
Hawks circle overhead. His men bury the bodies. His whole long land, he thinks, is one of swift sudden death and lonely graves hidden beneath the trees. Ithilien is a boneyard.
Walking home, he is overwhelmed. His wife takes him in her arms. At his back, his brother is saying, "We will fix this. We will fix this." Dimly, he perceives he can reach out and grasp healing. In their care, it can be done.
The Oath of Cirion and Eorl was the alliance sworn between Gondor and Rohan, and the agreement to come to each other in times of need. The Red Arrow was the signal that help was needed.
