White Candle
Another quick musical inspiration...
White Candles reflect and balance all colors, representing the highest level of consciousness. Burning a white candle in conjointment is to seek and provide protection, healing emotions and purification. The white candle represents truth, unity, harmony and wholeness of spirit; repels negativity and use to bring spiritual strength.
"I love you, Diana."
"I love you, Kal."
Together, in the Fortress of Solitude, they lit a single white candle representing and solidifying their union as a couple. It was to burn for eternity.
But that doesn't mean the relationship wouldn't come with its challenges. Not all can be repelled but its up to the couple on how they will handle it.
"I can't believe you are acting this way, Clark! You can be so arrogant at times!"
"I'm trying to understand."
"No you aren't. You want me to let you do everything and I won't!"
"That's not what I want Diana."
"Then what is it? I know we both have a hard time with accepting help and wanting to do things on our own but I've learned being with you…being in a relationship, this is a partnership and we handle things together."
"I know, but…"
"No! No, buts, Kal!" Diana sighed. "Forget it. You aren't trying. Why should I?"
There is no point in pointing fingers, because it takes two and no sense in fighting because there is nothing to prove. If it's worth it to break, it didn't mean a thing at all. Everybody knows a broken heart has to mend on its own. In life, anything worth having isn't easy but that doesn't mean things should be made more difficult. That's just part of the chapter of love, broken hearts trying to make it back again. Can it be fixed?
Clark was filled with sadness because he broke her heart. Unintentionally of course and that was the last thing he had ever wanted to do. There was distance between them. They could stand side by side and be so far apart. Clark realized more and more he had just lost the only one who had and ever would understand him.
Back at the fortress, with the candle being spiritually connected to them, as they distant themselves more and more from each other, the candle's flame was going out. Once it's gone, it's gone forever. They were running out of love.
Diana couldn't even look at him, without feeling a tear or two. She couldn't let him know these feelings. An Amazon should not be bothered like this by anything let alone a man.
She kept her head turned the other way, trying her best to ignore him.
Clark tried calling Diana, but she didn't answer. She ignored the calls. However, at his fifteenth time calling, Diana felt bad and decided to answer. She was quite surprised at how many times he called and when she didn't pick up he kept calling.
"Hello," she said.
"Hey Di, I'm glad you answered," he said. "I wanted to speak with you about what happened."
"We don't have to."
"Yes we do. Can you meet me at the fortress?"
"Hessia asked me to come to one of her classes."
"Maybe afterwards."
"I don't know."
They fell silent for about a minute.
"Diana?"
" I'm still here."
"I just want to talk-"
"Talk now then."
"I meant in person."
Diana sighed. "If it's not too late, I'll meet with you."
"You still love him."
Diana sighed pacing back and forth in Hessia's office. "I can't deny it."
"You want to be with him so go."
"I don't know what I will do being alone with him."
"No you don't know. So go. I didn't expect an Amazon Princess to run away."
"I'm not running away."
"Then why are you still here, little goddess?"
Clark stood staring at the white candle. He sighed and shook his head. "Why did I let it go this far?" he asked himself out loud. "How can I tell her?"
"Tell me what?" he heard a voice from behind asked.
He turned around relieved to see Diana. "You came," he said.
"I did. So what did you want to tell me?"
Clark took a deep breath. "I have missed you and I can't stop thinking about you."
Diana was silent.
"This candle was supposed to last for eternity but it's going out."
Diana slightly shrugged. "What do you want me to do?"
"Don't let it…us…burn out. Don't let us slip away."
"You say that now. You tell me not to do it when you are the one that did exactly that!" Diana snapped. "I need to go." She tried to keep herself calm.
Diana turned around about to walk out but Clark wrapped his arms around her waist. He pulled her close with her back against his chest.
"No, I'm not letting you."
"Why?"
"Because I love you."
"No you don't."
"Yes I do, Diana and you know that."
Diana scuffed, pulling away. She turned back and glared at him. The pain and anger in her eyes shattered Clark's heart even more.
"Whatever this is, Clark. I don't want it."
"I know that. Damn it why won't you listen to me? Please!"
Diana folded her arms.
"I hurt you. I pushed you away. I said things I will forever regret. At my darkest moment, you were right there. You are always right there with me as I am with you."
"That didn't and doesn't matter anymore."
Clark sighed in frustration. Diana's Amazonian stubbornness was in full force.
"I'm sorry…" his voice cracked.
Hearing him this time, Diana felt how genuinely honest he was being. She stared at him, noticing he had been holding back his tears.
"My mother and sisters never trusted men. They told me horrid stories but I didn't believe them. I wanted to have my own experiences and being here in man's world I've figured some things they were right, some wrong and a little over exaggeration. But I understand why some of them feel the way they do. I never thought I would give all of my trust and love to any man. But I took that chance with you, Clark." Diana sighed and looked at the candle. The flame was much smaller. "As much as my mind is telling me to walk away, I can't. I made a commitment."
"Both of us made a commitment but I broke it. That doesn't mean it can't be fixed. We can do it together."
Clark step closer to her. Diana was still a bit hesitant.
"I don't want to fell this kind of pain anymore. I don't want to feel it ever again."
"I know. I promise you-"
Diana shook her head. 'Don't make a promise you can't keep." She looked down.
Clark cupped her face with both hands, making her look up at him. She stared into her eyes with such sincerity and seriousness.
"I am in love with you, Diana. I promise you, we will work together to make this better. I will not lose you again."
A tear ran down Diana's cheek. Clark wiped the tear away gently with his thumb. Then he brought his lips down to hers, kissing her lightly. He wrapped his arms around her waist and Diana slowing wrapped her arms around his neck, deepening the kiss.
Pulling away slightly, Diana laid her head on his chest. Clark rubbed his hands up and down her back. They stared at the candle.
"It's a little brighter already."
"We can get brighter than that."
Clark kissed the top of her head and grasped her hand. Diana looked up at him then at their hands joined together.
"We are as one, Kal. You are mine."
"I love you, Diana."
Diana smiled and pulled him into a passionate kiss as their white candle ignited into a powerful flame.
