Unbreak My Heart

After New52 Superman's death

Wonder Woman looked at the hazy gray sky. It had rained for days. Metropolis never received any sunshine after that day. The day Superman went away. For many days, she felt broken, alone, and resentful. She felt incomplete. She felt empty. She was torn from Kal-El in a way no one wanted to be torn from someone they loved. Especially when that someone she wanted to build a family with.

She felt that she badly wanted more time with him; but it slipped away so fast. Because of her severe sadness, tears kept falling from her eyes; she cried every time she reminisced about him.

She could still feel his kiss on her lips; their last kiss. But that wasn't enough.

"Dammit!" She cried, dropping to her knees. She touched the scorched ground.

This is where he last was.

"What a lucky man I was..." his last words with a weak smile.

It wasn't selfish to want more time with him, for his lips to touch hers more, to be in his arms and to fly hand and hand, side by side, more.

He appeared in her dreams every night; not as a nightmare, but as a dream to let her rest peacefully in her slumber. Nevertheless, dreams did not ease the pain she felt inside. She didn't want to be reminded of something she could no longer have. But she could help it. She wished to see him personally. Yearning for him.

More tears washed over Diana as she thought about it. Her entire body rocked with sobs as she sat on the ground.

A ping of regret filled her heart. If it wasn't for coming to this world, joining the Justice League, she wouldn't be in this situation. She wouldn't be hurting like she was now.

Painful memories flashed back to her. All the time she spent with Clark. Their talks, their arguments, their first kiss, how he held her, his smile, his eyes; it all hit her at once causing more and more tears to fall. She rocked herself back and forth, hugging her knees to her chest.

"Do you ever feel alone?"

"Of course I do."

That was the beginning of the lonliness felt changing for both of them but now...

She didn't want to be alone again. It hurt too much. Sure they had their arguments and it took her months to actually be able to say "I love you". But she showed him in ways she never thought she could, and it wasn't fair that he was taken from her like that.

She hurt all over. Her heart, her body, her mind; they were all experiencing different forms of hurt all at the same time. Her heart felt as if a heavy weaponry Hepheastus forged was crushing it, causing it to break slightly more as the seconds ticked by.

The pain she was enduring. The gut wrenching feeling of knowing that she would have to live the rest of her life with the fact that she would never see her beloved ever again.

Diana never knew she would feel this way about anyone let alone a man. This man she fell deeply in love with gave her a love she never knew existed.

She would never forget about their ups and downs. The times she questioned their relationship but it was always confirmation it was alright to open up to him and to fight for what they had.

Tears fell down her face again. It was sad to face this reality once again. She first lost her mother and now the love of her life.

"Diana?"

She gasped and turned.

"No... you're..."

"Yes. But that's not stopping me from being with you in spirit."

She smiled, standing up. "Clark."

"There's that smile. You haven't in days."

"Because of you."

"I don't want you feeling this way. Remember, you celebrate life, not dwell on death."

"I remember..."

She looked back, staring at the ground again. Her heart jumped when he appeared in front of her.

"I want you to do something for me?"

"Do what?"

"Think about the times we had, not this. Ok?"

Diana sighed and slowly shook her head. Her heart began to ache again. She couldn't get that scene out of her mind.

"You have to, Diana."

"We wasted so much time, Clark."

Diana closed her eyes for a moment and sighed heavily. More tears formed.

She opened her eyes and he wasn't there anymore.

"Clark?"

There was a sudden breeze. Diana gasped as it felt as if Clark was wrapping his arms around her.

She heard a whisper in her ear.

"I desperately want to be at your side again but I'm here with you spiritually. My heart is right with yours. We have been and always will be one, Diana."

Her heart fluttered. She nodded slowly.

"My love."

It would take time of course but slowly, but surely, this aching in her heart would heal. Though, the feeling of regret and loss was there to stay.

She would cherish every moment they had until the end of time. Until they meet again in the next life.
