The Unexpected
CLASH! BOOM!
Diana gasped trying to catch her breath. "Damn! What the hell is wrong with me?" She thought.
She was thrown into a building. Normally she would've jumped back up but now she lies in the middle of an office floor. Her whole body aching and she was out of breath.
Sword still in hand, she slowly gets up, feeling a bit lightheaded.
"Ah!" She slightly bent over feeling a sharp, cramp like pain in her stomach. But that wasn't going to stop her from defeating this monster.
"Let's get this over with."
Diana takes off her bracers. Her eyes and body glowed of light blue. Her god power unleashed. Diana barely uses this power and honestly preferred not to. But she had no other choice.
With the monster defeated, Diana exhales. She was unusually exhausted and feels herself about to fall.
Before she hits the ground, strong arms wrap around her, cradling her.
"Hey, Diana. I got you."
She looks up and gives a weak smile. "Clark."
"I'll take you to the Tower."
She groans. "No, I want to... go home."
"Diana, we have to get you check out."
"I just need to rest at home."
"Alright, well Barry and Hal are on their way to help finish this up."
He was still a bit hesitant but flew off carrying her home.
Clark and Diana's Apartment
Clark lays her on the bed. He takes her sword and places it by the dresser. Her tiara and cuffs on the nightstand and helps take off her boots and uniform off. He goes over to the dresser draw to get one of his shirts she loves to wear. He smiles as he watches her put it on.
Clark covers her with the blanket, quickly changed clothes as well, putting on his sweatpants. He lies next to her and leans over to kiss her cheek.
Diana lay with her back against his chest. She moved closer for her body to fit perfectly with his and put his arm around her.
"Comfy?"
Diana smiled and nodded. "Yes."
Clark knew this was definitely not normal for her. It was quite frustrating for him being that Diana is a magic, demi-goddess, his x-ray vision doesn't work with her. But he wanted to make sure she was really okay.
Watching her sleep, she looked so tired. This was the most drained he had ever seen her. Maybe she used too much of her God power? He could only hope much needed sleep would help.
2 Weeks Prior
Clark and Diana lay blissfully in the afterglow of their love making. He had her wrapped his arms around her and she rested her head on his chest.
"Kal?"
"Yeah?"
"I know that there are traditions here and I just want us to be on the right path of what we have together."
Clark smiled and cupped her cheek. "Of course we are, Diana. What we have is obviously different from the normal but this is our normal."
"I never really put much thought into having moments like this. Being able to share myself with another so freely."
They kissed slowly.
"Always remember that I love you, Diana," Clark replied, pulling away.
"And you are my love, Kal."
6 days Prior
Diana latched onto Clark's arm as they slowly walked through the park.
"It's so quiet for a Saturday afternoon."
"Yeah, maybe a lot of people decided to stay in or at games."
"Give it back Miguel! It's not funny! I'm going to tell"
"Shut up, Jasmine! If you want your goofy doll back! You have to catch me."
"Maybe I spoke to soon about the quiet," Diana raised a brow.
Miguel took off running.
"No fair! I can't run that fast!"
"Hahaha! Too bad"
"Miguel! Stop being so mean!"
Jasmine started to cry as she ran as fast she could to catch up with him. "Give it back!"
"Don't be such a cry baby!"
Miguel look back for only a second but when he turned back he gasped and tried to stop himself but still ended up bumping into Clark and Diana.
"Umph!" He fell to the ground. He looked up at them and frowned.
"Miguel!"
He got up quickly and ran toward a large tree, climbing it.
Jasmine ran passed Clark and Diana.
"Miguel!"
He laughed. "Come on, up here and get it!"
"I'm telling!"
"Telling who? Mrs. Dragonfire!"
"It's Mrs. Drakeford!"
"I don't care!"
"I wish Wonder Woman was here so she can kick you!"
"She wouldn't kick me! I'm not a afraid of a girl!"
"She is an older girl and taller than you!"
"So!"
"Superman can kick you too!"
"Nah, Superman would be on my side!"
"Nah uh! You are mean! Superman doesn't like meanies!"
Miguel climbed higher up the tree. "Are you going to come up here or what?"
Jasmine tried climbing up the tree. She looked back to see how high she was. As she tried pulling herself up a branch, her foot slipped and she started to fall backwards.
She gasped. She closed her eyes for just a moment but her eyes shot open feeling herself being caught in someone's arms.
She focuses and smiles happily. "Thanks mister!" She looks down and gasped seeing as he was floating. "Superman!"
Clark smiled. "Be more careful next time, Jasmine."
"You know my name?"
"I overheard your friend."
"He isn't my friend! He took my doll and won't give it back!" She looked and gasped. "Is that Wonder Woman!?"
"The one and only." Clark flew up higher to meet with Diana.
"Is she okay?"
"Yes! Now I am!" Jasmine said happily.
"Give the doll back and apologize."
Miguel looked as if he was seeing ghosts. "Ye-yes ma'am." He handed Jasmine her doll back. "Sorry," he mutters.
Jasmine takes the doll and holds it close, embracing it.
Diana grabs Miguel out the tree as she and Clark floated back down to the ground.
"Both of you have to be careful. Miguel, you can't take things that don't belong to you."
"Yes, sir."
Clark patted his shoulder. "I know you are a good kid. You shouldn't act mean towards Jasmine like that."
Miguel nodded and looked down. "I was just playing."
"You both could've gotten hurt," Diana said.
"I understand."
"Why do you have regular clothes, Wonder Woman?" Jasmine asked.
Diana smiled. "We don't wear that all the time."
"We are in disguise. But you have to keep it a secret." Clark winked.
"Ok! I can keep a secret! But Miguel can't!"
"Yes I can!"
"Nah uh!"
"Uh huh!"
"Miguel! Jasmine!"
They turned to see an older women walking toward them.
"Mrs. Drakeford!" Jasmine called.
"Where have two been? You were supposed to be home an hour ago!"
"Mrs. Drakeford I talk to Superman and Wonder Woman!"
"Sure, you did, come on that's enough pretending!"
"But I did!"
Clark cleared his throat. "There was a little scuffle earlier. Superman and Wonder Woman helped out and made sure these two were safe."
Mrs. Drakeford looked up at Clark with a raised brow. "And who are you?"
"Oh, the name's Clark, this is my girlfriend, Diana. We were just walking by and saw everything, decided to help as well."
"Uh huh. Miguel and Jasmine, go get in the car. This is the last time I let you two come to the park alone."
Jasmine turned and hugged them both. "Thank you for helping me!"
Clark and Diana smiled.
"Be sure to remember what we said about safety, Miguel."
"Yes sir. Thank you, Mr. and Mrs. Clark."
The kids ran to the car.
"I'm quiet surprise. Those two are actually acting civilized."
"They are good kids."
"Look, you two are very young, no kids yet it seems. It may seem easy but it's not. Especially with kids like Miguel and Jasmine."
"If you don't mind me asking, but what do you mean by that?"
"I took them in 3 years ago because of their unstable mother. Father unknown. Kids need stability. Keep that in mind when you decide to have your own. But you made those little devils calm down, so maybe you don't have anything to worry about."
Mrs. Drakeford walked away going to her car.
Clark and Diana glanced at each. Clark took her hand and they started walking again.
"Come on, Mrs. Clark, it's getting late," he grinned.
Diana smiled and kissed his cheek.
Later …
Clark and Diana decided to take a late night flight.
"It feels so good up here."
"Yeah." Clark glanced at her. "What's on your mind?"
"What do you mean?"
"You have that look. Something is bothering you. What's wrong?"
"Nothing, Clark, really."
"Diana."
She rolled her eyes and flew a few inches away from him.
Clark caught up with her and grabbed her hand.
"Diana. Don't do that. Tell me what's bothering you."
She looked up at him.
"When Mrs. Drakeford said we don't have any children yet... all I could think about was if it all. I've had thoughts about what it would be like but that's all it is. A thought."
"We don't know that for sure."
"Kal, we already have so much to be responsible for with being Superman and Wonder Woman. She said there needs to be stability and we can't give that."
"I've thought about that too Diana but I don't really want to give that up yet and say it won't happen. I know it's already hard for us. I think about it every time we have to cut our time and dates together for a mission or even out right cancel them."
"Sometimes, we are miles away from each other for more than a week. I don't want a child of mine to feel as though their parents aren't around. We put the world first even for us. I don't want that for my child, Kal. My mother was Queen first. No matter how hard she tried, she couldn't find the right balance."
"I know, Diana." He pulled her into an embrace. "What we have now and how we handle it works for us. Maybe that isn't meant for Superman and Wonder Woman. But it's okay."
Diana pulled away and frowned. "I don't want that possibility be taken away from you, Kal."
"I don't want that for you either, Diana. Whatever happens happens. I love you. This is us and whatever comes our way we can handle it together. If it's meant for one day we have little kids running or flying around, it'll happen. If not, don't worry about it."
Clark pulled her into a light kiss.
Diana wrapped her arms around his neck and deepened the kiss.
As they pulled away, Diana smiled. She was so happy and relieved for the understanding she and Clark have.
Present Day...
As the sun raised, Diana tossed and turned. She felt a strange heat on her body. She moved closer to Clark and looked up at him.
"You're up?"
She nodded.
"You're a bit warmer than normal. How are you feeling?"
"Better. But I'll have to see Hessia today."
"Did you want me to make something to eat?"
"No, I'm not hungry."
The thought of food made her a little nauseous. But, strangely, she felt like she was getting energy restored at that very moment from something.
Clark looked over at the clock. "It's still early, how about you try to get a little more sleep? You will have enough time to get ready."
"Don't you have to go to work? I don't want to be a burden. I'll be fine."
"No, right now, I'm more concerned about you. Just relax."
Diana laid her head on his chest as he wrapped his arms around her. Clark kissed the top of her head and they both fell back to sleep.
About 2 hours later, Clark kissed Diana's cheek and eased out of bed. Coming out the bathroom from his shower, he saw that Diana was still asleep.
After he got dressed, he kissed her again and went to the kitchen to find something he could make for her.
Moments later, Diana reached out to the other side of the bed, feeling for Clark. She felt just the sheets. She opened her eyes and lifted her head. He wasn't in the bed, and he wasn't in the bathroom. She sat up in the bed. She places her hand on her stomach still feeling a bit odd. Her body was still warmer than usual. Maybe a nice shower would help.
Clark finished cutting up some fruit and placed it in a bowl. If not anything else, Diana could at least try to eat this.
"Clark?" He looked up and smiled.
"Hey, Di." He wiped his hands with a towel then embraced her. He noticed that she was already dressed. "How are you feeling?"
"I'm alright." As she pulled away from his embrace she looked at the bowl. "What are you making?"
"I thought you would at least like to eat a fruit salad. I just want you to at least try something."
She kissed his cheek. "Thank you, but I'll just take one of these." Diana took an apple slice and smiled. "I will try something later." She walked passed him to the refrigerator to get a bottle of water "I have to be leaving out now, Love."
"Now?"
"Yes, I have to see Hessia before her first class. And you need to go to work."
"Alright. Alright." Clark embraced her. "Are you sure you don't want me to go with you?"
"Really, it'll be fine. I'll call you when I leave there."
Clark smiled and kissed her. "Ok."
Honestly, Diana was nervous. But she couldn't let Clark know that.
Diana took and deep breath as she walked into Hessia's office.
"Good Morning, little Goddess."
"Morning, Hessia."
"What brings you by today?" Hessia stared at Diana. She looked different. She had this certain glow. "How have you been feeling, lately?"
"That's why I came here. I have not been feeling myself for a couple of days now. I'm not sure why."
"Come on up here and lie down."
Hessia checked Diana's vitals. It wasn't exactly at the normal level as Diana would have.
"Hmm..."
"What's wrong?" Diana asked with a concerned expression.
"Your vitals are a little higher than normal. But nothing to be too concerned about. How have things been with Clark?"
"Oh fine..." Diana smiled. "We've had a few ups and downs but he's amazing."
"Have you thought about this as long term?"
"We've talked about it and I think that's truly what we both want."
"But what about back home. Have all our sisters finally accepted him?
"Still not all. But it's a slow building relationship."
"Are you ready for that? To one day have off-springs? To be committed to this man for the rest of your life?"
"Clark is the only man I've thought about those kinds of possibilities with. But we aren't sure if it will ever happen with everything else going on." Diana paused for a moment. "Hessia, why are are you asking so many questions like this. What are you trying to say?"
Hessia smiled. "Diana, you are no longer the little Goddess I trained years ago. You've grown into a beautiful woman."
"Hessia?"
"There will be a new little one among us."
Diana frowned confused. "I don't ..." She was then shocked. "Am I?"
Hessia nodded slowly.
DAILY PLANET
Clark sat at his desk contemplating. He couldn't concentrate not knowing what was going on with Diana.
"Hey, Smallville? What's going on with you?"
"CK, what happened this morning? You were supposed to be in the meeting?"
"Something personal had to take care of. Sorry."
"Late night and late morning with the London girl, huh?" Lois teased.
Clark smirked. "Not in the way you're thinking, Lois. She hasn't been feeling well. She's at the doctor now actually."
"Why in the hell are you here instead of there, Kent?"
"She wanted to go alone. She said she was feeling a bit better this morning but just needed a check up."
"You know, sometimes, you are an idiot. Go home, Smallville." Lois walked away.
Clark frowned and shook his head.
Jimmy put his hand on his shoulder. "Sorry, man. Hope everything is alright."
Clark sighed. "Yeah, me too."
HESSIA'S OFFICE
"How far?"
"About 2 or 3 weeks."
"Diana, it's alright, but you need to be careful. No more battles for a while. No use of excessive power." Hessia sat next to her. "How will that man of yours react?"
"I don't know." Diana paused for a moment. She really didn't know. "We talked about this..." Diana placed her hand on her stomach. "…preparing ourselves and coming into terms of the possibility of not happening. We aren't prepared now."
"Maybe you are. Do not question what life has planned."
Diana nodded slowly and sighed.
As Diana was leaving Hessia's office, she had this sudden revelation. Everything around her was different. Coincidentally, seeing a couple with their children, made her smile.
Her phone started to ring. It was Clark. Answering, she had never felt so nervous in her life.
"Hi, Clark."
"Hey, are you ok? I'm sorry I couldn't wait. I had to call."
"Oh...I'm fine now. Just now leaving Hessia's."
From her tone, Clark knew there was something else she wasn't telling him just yet. But he didn't want to pressure her into saying anything she wasn't ready to.
"How about I take you to dinner and maybe a movie...but we probably can skip that?"
"Dinner is fine. But yes, I would rather be at home with you afterwards."
"Well dinner it is. I'll be home in about 45 minutes."
Diana made it home first. While in the shower, Diana continued smiling to herself.
About 15 minutes later, Clark came in. He took of his jacket then went to their bedroom. He smiled proudly hearing Diana singing. She had such a beautiful voice. He could sit and listen to her all day.
He sat on the bed and continued to listen to her. Diana turned off the shower and got out, drying off, then wrapped the towel around her. She walked out the bathroom and gasped when she saw Clark.
"Kal...I didn't hear you come in. Why were you just sitting there?"
"I was listening to you. You sound amazing." Clark stood up, stepping closer to her. He caressed her cheek. "What did Hessia say?"
"It's just tiredness. I've over extended myself and need more rest. Using so much power with that monster yesterday didn't help."
"I've told you that, Di. You take on so many missions without rest."
"I know. I'll take a break soon enough. Maybe you can with me?" Diana wrapped her arms around his neck.
With cheeky grin, Clark wrapped his arms around her waist. "I definitely wouldn't mind that. Maybe a couple of days at the fortress or visit Themyscira?"
"Anything is fine, as long as I'm with you, Love." Diana pulled him into a passionate kiss.
On the outside, Diana was trying to stay calm so Clark wouldn't ask any more questions but inside she was still nervous, but excited to tell him the news.
After getting ready, Clark and Diana left their apartment, going to a small, quiet dim lit restaurant.
They were led to a more private area in the back corner of the restaurant. Clark pulled out Diana's chair for her.
They sat down, ordered their food. Clark noticed Diana ordered only water, instead of her usual glass of wine. Maybe it was nothing, but he noticed there was something different about her and knew it was something she wasn't telling him.
It was very quiet and glancing at Clark, Diana was getting nervous all over again, especially with him staring.
She started to shift a little bit in her seat and put her hand over her stomach.
"You okay, Di?"
"Yeah yeah I'm fine."
Clark tried to have a little chat, but Diana's uneasiness was very apparent.
After they were done, Clark paid the bill and as they were walking out he took her hand, holding firmly as to give her a hint that everything was alright.
HOME
Walking through the front door, Clark picked her up. He kicked the door shut with it automatically locking. He carried her to their bed room, gently setting her down.
Diana took off her dress, putting on one of Clark's oversized shirts and Clark took off his pants and button down shirt and on some sweats.
As they got into bed, Clark pulled the cover over them. He wrapped his arms around her and Diana rested her head on his chest. He rubbed her back and kissed her forehead trying hard to make her feel comfortable. Diana couldn't find the right words to explain how she was feeling. But she had to tell him.
Diana looked up at him."Kal, I have to tell you something," she said pulling away.
"What is it?"
They sat up. Diana was still hesitant. Clark pulled her into an embrace.
"Whatever it is, Diana. I'm here for you. What's wrong?"
Clark had a worried look on his face.
"I've been asking myself all day am I...are we ready but I've come to the obvious conclusion that we've dealt with so much together, I have no doubt about this with you."
"What do you mean, Di?"
She took his hand placing it gently over her stomach. "Wonder Woman really does need a break for a while."
Clark shocked, looked down then looked back up staring into her eyes.
"Diana? Seriously?"
She nodded.
Silence.
Clark looks down again bewildered. He had no idea how to respond. So much was suddenly running through his mind.
"Kal?"
"Are you sure you are okay?"
"Yes." She caressed his cheek. "I was quite worried myself but Hessia said we are just fine."
Clark got up and paced around. Diana frowned not sure how to take his reaction. She stood up as well.
"I know this is unexpected for the both of us."
"Oh no...no, Diana." He said quickly turning to her and wrapped his arms around her waist. "That doesn't matter of being unexpected. Di...we are going to be parents! I'm going to be a dad! It's just... it's so surreal." Clark started laughing, lifting her up and kissed her passionately.
Breaking their kiss, Clark set her down and they looked into each other's eyes. Clark stroked her face. "I can't believe someone is going to be calling us mom and dad. We were thinking this wouldn't be possible but it is. It's happening! I wouldn't want this any other way."
Diana kept smiling as he brushed a piece of hair from her face before placing a small kiss on her lips.
"I guess our kid is saying their dad was taking too long."
"For what?" Diana questioned.
Clark smiled and kissed her cheek before going over to his laptop bag. He took out a small black box.
"Diana, I need to ask you something." He took a deep breath and took her hand. "I've kept this with me trying to figure out when's the right time. I love you, Diana. I'm in love with you. I, too, never thought I would have the kind of happiness I have with you. I can be myself. I know we have nothing but love trust and honesty within each other. I want to spend the rest of my life with you and build our family."
A tear ran down Diana's face.
"Diana, would you do me the honor of marrying me?"
"Oh, Kal!" She jumped into his arms. "Of course!"
Clark placed the ring on her finger, lifted her up again and kissed her passionately. Clark then laid her back down on the bed. He rose up her shirt and placed small kisses all over her stomach.
"I love you, Di."
"I love you too, Kal."
"We have a lot of planning to do."
Diana smiled. "Yes, we do."
"We really need to start thinking of names. Change our room up a bit for a crib and all that other stuff. How exactly, will we tell the League. The Amazons? Some of them won't exactly be celebratory."
Diana giggled amused with Clark's excitement. "We will figure all that out in time." She ran her hand through his hair.
Clark wrapped his arms around her lightly.
Diana placed her hand over his. She sighed lovingly as he gently rubbed her stomach.
"This is us, Diana. A part of both of us, right here." he whispered and kissed her again passionately. "This is ours."
