Hecate never responded to my questions after that. She once again became just another silent thought at the back of my head. But why did she choose to show herself? Of all the times she could have made herself know, she chose then. And what storm?
The Blacks' house was just up ahead. The pealing, red paint was the only colour I could see for miles in this heavy rain. I wanted to run.
Run? What kind of goddess are you?
I ignored her and kept walking. She's the goddess of magic, she could free herself. The red house was so close. It's too late to turn back now.
You know I can't do that.
"Then what kind of goddess does that make you?" I challenged. Hypocrite; Hecate was a total hypocrite. They all were.
The place had changed drastically since the last time I came here. One side of the house was painted a light blue, whilst the other was left the same. The door stood crooked, barely hanging on its hinges, and the porch was covered with bright yellow weeds. The shed was in even worse condition. Jacob's shed looked disused, dents were made all over, rust was beginning to take over, and I'm pretty sure that the inside looked even worse- covered with cobwebs and separate parts and broken engines. I guess it's a good thing I'm here then, even if it is for a short time.
"One knock. You can do it Bella," I convinced myself. I barely touched the wood, when the door swung open. I stepped back in shock.
Big, old, brown eyes met mine. A grin spread onto the man's face. "Bella? What are you doing here?"
I didn't smile. I don't think I even replied. Last thing I heard was Billy shouting my name, then shadows clouded my vision.
I was in a black room that stretched far and wide. There were no windows or vents, but to my far left was a door and beside me was a small table. How very Alice in Wonderland.
On the table was a note.
It read:
Free me
"That it? No key?" I was really fed up with my family's desire to leave mysterious clues. And they have the courtesy to wonder why some demigods don't return from their quests. Thoughtless, disobliging, hypocritical family. Honestly, couldn't I be a normal teenager?
I made my way to the door. Various Grecian symbols decorated it. I really couldn't be bothered to read them, I was too peeved. The door opened willingly to my slight shove, and I was overcome by purple smoke.
"What the Hades?" I coughed and by instinct I shielded my mouth with my sleeve. I was not going to black out again.
Squinting mercilessly, I checked my surroundings. It looked like a forest, only everything was enclosed by the purple smoke. The trees stood tall, slouching over and providing shelter with their bare branches. It was night and the moon was the only source of light.
"Purgatory," came a female voice, answering my unasked question.
"Purgatory?" I read something about that. Some call it Limbo- a place between heaven and earth, where souls go after death. But why am I here?
"Yes, child. I've been here for almost nineteen years."
A figure pushed through the smoke with ease and grace. Her face was youthful- anyone could see that- but her eyes… her eyes were old and tormented. Nineteen years of torment. She wore a ripped dress, her dark hair was wild and blown to the side by the wind. Several scratches were imbedded in her once flawless skin, and, hanging loosely on her neck, was a silver necklace. In her hand was a small lamp. Encased in it were green swirls providing her with a portable light. I could just make out, dangling onto a thread under the lamp, was a set of keys.
"Hecate?"
She only nodded.
"What are you doing here?"
Hey! Look at me, I updated on time for once! For anyone who's miraculously read this fic from the start would know that I never update on time. But I try my best to!
Oh, and I made a Tumblr account just for this story. I don't actually know why… I think it was a spur of the moment kind of thing ;) So go check that out! It's got the cover photo for this fic (it helps if you want to know what Hecate looks like in this chapter), and the link is on my profile. I'm still not sure if it works but if it doesn't can someone tell me how to fix it? I'm pointless when it comes to tech, my friend's broken phone proves it :D
Just want to say thanks to everyone who reviewed, followed and favourite this story- amazing as always.
Till next time-
