Mr. Jiu sat down on the park bench. His daughter was playing with a few other kids.
A young woman with black hair and brown eyes approached him. "Hey can I sit here?"
Mr. Jiu moved over to give her room. She sat down and turned to Mr. Jiu. "So what brought you here?"
"My daughter."
"Same here. Which one is yours?" thought she looked awfully young to be mom but he decided not to bother the woman about it.
"See the girl in the red shirt and jeans, which she's getting mud all over? Yeah that's mine, her name is Colette."
The woman glanced over at Colette. "Aww she's cute." She then pointed to a six year old girl with curly black hair being pushed by an older girl on the swings. "That's my daughter Maya."
"Who's the girl behind her?"
"Oh just one of my friend's niece. She asked me to bring her along." Her eyes widened slightly. "I just realized, we've been talking this whole time and I don't even know your name."
"It's David."
"Kaylee. So are you here with anyone else?"
David shook his head. "Just Colette."
Kaylee took a deep breath. "This might sound weird but do you want to hang out later? Maybe introduce the girls to each other."
David agreed and wrote his number on a scrap of paper. "Does tomorrow afternoon work?"
Kaylee nodded. "It's so nice to talk to someone who knows what it's like to have kids. None of my friends could even come close. "
David gave a small laugh. "I have friends with kids but they're all married."
Kaylee tilted her head. "So you're a single parent? Me too."
"Divorced?" David asked her.
"I've never been married. I was a teen mom." Kaylee informed him. David was right about her being young for a mother. "I wasn't able to figure out who the father was."
"Well I'm sure you're doing a great job anyway." David smiled softly.
"Hey my kid is still alive. That's got to mean I'm decent at this parenting thing." The two laughed.
