Chapter 11: Secrets
"Please Sookie! I promise I won't go in, I will stay in the car." Jessica said pleadingly to Sookie, who was thinking of how she would feel to see her Gran one last time. Nexie was watching as Sookie began to really consider the idea.
"NO! Sookie, she is still a baby. She will say anything so she could see them."
"She wants to see them one last time, just like I would want to see Gran one last t-"
"There is a huge difference she hasn't even finished going under her vampire transformations, she is still young without her maker we have no control over her. Sookie, are you telling me you would sit in a car and watch your family happy in the house? Uh, I think not. Don't do it."
Jessica looked at Sookie with puppy dog eyes. "Fine, but you have to change first."
"Yes! Thank you!" At the same time Nexie shouted, "Sookie, don't."
"Are you coming along Nexie?"
Nexie was beyond annoyed at Sookie. Who the hell did Sookie think she was, to take out a baby vampire who had specific orders by her maker to not leave the house. Nexie Rolled her eyes at Sookie, grabbed her jacket and walked out the door; Nexie ignored the two naive girls and started dialing a number on her phone.
Hello?
Hey, where are you right now?
At Milly's Boutique in Shreveport. Why are y-"
"Just stay there, I will meet you."
With that Nexie hung up the phone call, she turned around to see Jessica and Sookie getting into the car. She shook her head at the fact Sookie really was much of an airhead as Pam said she was. The little mermaid walked over to her bike and placed her helmet on, she pushed on the motor and soon she was out of sight. The cars blurred past her as did the scenery. She began to think about Godric's disappearance; It didn't make any sense to her. A two thousand year old vampire, kidnapped by mere humans, no sign of forced entry or struggle, it all didn't make sense. She then had a theory, Godric may have gone willingly, but why? To satisfy them and then leave at his execution, or maybe he wanted to be there. 'No, that's retarded. He wouldn't leave all of us behind without an explanation.' She thought.
She made it to Shreveport in record time and parked it in the parking lot of Fangtasia. She jumped off it and began walking towards Milly's Boutique, that was 2 blocks away.
She saw the large flamboyant sign and walked in. Immediately, she was flooded with the color pink, her stomach churned in disgust. "Oh this is gross."
She made her way towards the back of the store and spotted what she came for. "I can model this in the back for you if yo-"
"No, you won't. You have about five second to get out of my sight." The woman stared at her in shock. Nexie moved a step closer, "Did I stutter or you just brain dead from the three packs you smoke a day?" The woman with tear filled eyes shook her head and ran off, to help another costumer. Nexie sighed and spun around looking at Bill. Bill smirked as he held a pink shirt in his hand.
"was that really necessary?"
"Yes, it was. You want to know why? Because your girlfriend didn't listen to me when I told her a maker is the only one in charge of the progeny. Apparently, Sookie thinks she can play step-mommy."
"What do you-"
"She took Jess to see her parents. According to her they will only be in the car and watch the house."
"Where are they now, Nex."
"Where do you think? I suggest you go now. If her dad is there I can bet you anything Jessica won't hold back."
Bill turned around and made his way towards the door. He suddenly stopped and looked at Nexie, "You're not coming?" Nexie smiled at the thought of Sookie getting bitched out by the most bitchest vampire alive. 'She listen to me next time, at least.'
"And miss the almighty Bill come to the rescue? Why, I couldn't miss that." She said with a smirk as the walked out the shop. He picked her up bridal style and said rolling his eyes, "There is the Nexie I can't stand. For a second I thought you might have actually liked me."
"You wish, Compton." In a flash he sped off, following the maker progeny connection he had with Jessica to the exact location.
"I don't think I am going to my mom's. I'm gonna stay here." Diana said as she began chopping the carrots for the soup. Alana turned around in an instant, "Why not? You haven't seen her in a while. I thought you missed her."
"I do. It's just- She is just been going neck and neck with Brian and I don't want to get caught in the middle like last time."
Alana smiled at her roommate and around the kitchen's island. She grabbed a carrot and began cutting as well. "Look, couples fight when they love each other. Brian and your mom really do love each other. Whether she is a fairy and he is vampire or if she was born in the 60's and he was born in the 1700's it doesn't matter. All couples fight and all get through it. Talk to your mom about it or even Brian, I know you look at his as your own father; I am sure he will understand and she will too. You need to see them, they miss you and after your house burning you need your family for support."
"Maybe you're right. It's just-"
Alana's phone began ringing, she hit the mute button and looked at her friend. "It's just Nexie, she probably found a sale on some booze. Okay, as you were saying."
"But, what if it's important? Maybe her car broke down, and that animal thing still hasn't been found. She could get hurt or-"
"You really do jump to conclusions. I am sure she is fine." Diana gave the mermaid a weak smile but, she knew something bad was about to happen.
"Why won't she pick up! Dammit." Nexie was in the passenger side of the car while Jessica was speeding down the road, terrified. "Nex, what happens if she doesn't make it. It don't look normal."
Bill kept pleading Sookie to stay awake as the white foam began to flow out of her mouth. "What about your roommate!" He shouted. Nexie frantically began texting the two. It seemed like forever to get a response, she kept looking back at Sookie. Even though she didn't really care for the little blonde she had to admit she did some idiotic things that made Nexie laugh.
The car pulled up to Fangtasia, Nexie ran out to open the door. As Bill laid her down yelling for someone to call Ludwig, Diana and Alana appeared by the door way.
"Move." Alana said as she pushed past Pam and Eric. "Lay her on her stomach, or she will choke on the foam. Explain"
Bill recited the story from her reaction to the vampire blood to how Sookie manage to get the scratch. "Do you know what did this?" He asked as Alana put gloves on and examined the wound.
"Komodo Dragon."
Nexie looked at her cousin, "Wait you think a Komodo dragon did this?"
"No, they have poison in them. They inject it into their prey tracking them as they slowly die, then they eat them."
"She's dying! Oh my-" Diana screeched. Nexie rolled her eyes, "You aren't helping, D."
"I need Bronomethius Juice. It's the only way to get the poison out. If we don't get in time, she will." Nexie saw Bill's face drain, while Eric and Pam kept a cold face. Diana next to her was sobbing when she became quiet and whispered, "Someone's coming." They all looked at Diana as Ludwig stormed in and saw Alana.
"Trying to play imaginary doctor, are we? You stupid fish, you are only a human doctor." Ludwig sneered at Alana.
"Oh and you would know better, imp? After all what is a dwarfling like you capable of? All you can do is drink yourself into a coma."
"I can think up a few ways to place you into a coma."
"Is that so?"
Alana and Ludwig had their fair share of hatred for one another and no matter what it was there would always be tension between the two. "Okay! No time for fighting, fix her." Nexie cut in as she pulled her cousin aside. She looked at her cousin, "Why the hell did you allow that thing in here?"
"We didn't know if you were coming? Either way you had to come." Nexie nodded her head towards the bathroom and dragged Diana with her. As the three entered the restroom Alana looked at Nexie with a hard expression. "What is it? Why am I here?"
Nexie looked at the two girls and sighed. "You guys remembered two nights ago, when we talked about the creature thing that fucked up that lady in Andy's car?" The two nodded. "Well, Sookie got a look at it and began describing it as a body of a man and a head of a bull.."
"Wait, like a Minotaur?" Alana said in disbelief. Diana began hyperventilating, "I knew it! You guys said it wouldn't hurt us but look what it did to Sookie! She's a fairy and it got her, what if it comes after me!"
The two girls looked at Diana and spoke in unison, "A Fairy?" Diana looked at them dumbfound, "You didn't know? It's obvious, her blood screams it." Alana shook her head, "We can't tell anyone about this. Sookie being a fairy and this Minotaur/Maenad thing stays between us. I have a feeling this thing isn't passing through. We need to gather information fast. Diana you need to go to your mom's just in case it's on a killing spree, Nexie you are still going to Mississippi with Eric, we play it cool and work on this thing on our own. We need to get it before anything else happens. Even if they figure it out they don't know as much since they are Greek creatures."
"What are we going to do? We can't just go up to it and kill it." Nexie asked, "These things can't be killed by fire and stakes like Vamps, or Iron like Faes, or even a bronze dagger or beheading us. They have to be vulnerable and we all know this thing is closely guarding itself."
"I guess we'll have to find out why it's here and go on from there."
"I have a book my great-grandfather gave me. It had all these supernatural things in it and information maybe we can get something from it?" Diana said questioningly not knowing if the girls would even consider the idea. The two mermaids nodded.
"Alana... There is something I need to tell-" Pam walked in a very angry mood. Slamming the door harshly she grabbed paper towels and scowled at the girls. "Looks like I've been demoted to Janitor. Stupid fucking Sookie." She walked out cursing Sookie and Bill's name in every way possible. Alana looked at her cousin. "Well, that was interesting. What is it you were saying?"
Just like that, Nexie's moment to tell Alana the truth about Godric was gone. He was no where to be found, she knew they couldn't tell her because knowing Alana she wouldn't be able to sit there and wait around. She could see how much the whole Godric thing hurt her, she couldn't blame her either. After all, finally having the man you've loved for ten years confess his love for you, making love to you and then leaving without returning any calls, kind of a rude awakening. Nexie spent some nights listening to Alana trying to muffle her cries or talk on the phone to Sam about it trying to lie to herself that nothing was wrong, that he was "busy" yet, Sam knew that wasn't the truth.
"Nothing. I was just going to tell you that I saw the thing that attacked Sookie. And all I can say is this thing is not leaving it wants something, it wants someone." She watched her cousin nod, as Diana knew that Nexie wanted to say something else. "I know, Nex, I know. Want a ride home?"
Nexie shook her head and watched as Alana left the bathroom with Diana tailed behind her. Nexie looked at the harsh florescent lights through the mirror. She say herself, pale with cold darkened eyes, her figure small and fragile looking. She felt bad about what she was keeping from Alana. She heard Sookie's screams come to an end, and Dr. Ludwig say she could be given blood. She continued to watch herself as she heard Eric offer his blood to Sookie, something Eric never had done for Nexie. She started to see what Pam saw and it began haunting her. Eric felt something for Sookie, something he didn't feel for her. What upset her most was she didn't care if he didn't love her, she just wanted him for as long as she can have him.
Pam walked into the bathroom again quietly, looking at Nexie's mute expression. "You okay?" Pam was never concerned for others but, somewhere deep down inside she felt a little something for the young mermaid. "I don't know to be honest."
Pam looked down knowing what it was she was really trying to say. "You mean you don't know if you two are okay anymore." Nexie nodded lightly. Pam leaned against the counter, "I am going to tell you one thing he has interest in her, something he doesn't know about her, it appeals to him but don't misjudge that as he loves her. I am sure he will get over that little Sookie phase and notice what he really wants, you. Well, and of course me."
Nexie softly chuckled, "I have been with so many men and have seen so many things, Pam. How he does things for her, how he looks at her, that is something I will never get. No matter how hard you or I try to overlook it, it's inevitable to avoid. He likes her, and he is going to love her, whether we try to stop it from happening and eventually she will return the love back. I have seen it too many times. I can feel it now and you know what the say, 'Mermaids have great senses for the future.'"
Just as Pam was about to say something Nexie turned around and left. She walked out to see Eric smiling at Sookie then to her, Pam caste her eyes down towards the floor as the door closed to the bathroom. Nexie made he way towards Eric, "I don't know how long I can keep the secret from Alana, it's matter of time before she realizes what is going on." She turned away and walked outside, letting the cold air hit her skin. She turned the key in the ignition and was out of sight before Eric knew there was something else wrong. For once Nexie started to see reality, she really was lonely.
