Chapter 23: Eden

Twist around reality, my mind and heart are aflow,

Burning like a fire, where she went I'll never know,

But I miss her so, and I ask myself twice,

Why am I left alone to my own device?

In the name of religion I am now on my own,

To fight the world with noone to see how I've grown,

What have I shown?

That I can spill blood with my words?

That I can revel in deep thought that is so absurd?

Reject me as bad company, and see how I do,

For the time I change is the time the world is through,

So for now and until I reach my conclusion,

I will deal myself a most dark substitution.

Aubrey finished writing the last words of her poem with a sigh of relief. She'd finally found the words to match the feelings that had been swirling in her mind ever since she stepped of the charter bus three months ago with nothing but her journal, a mixtape Beca had given her, and two hundred dollars that had been given to her by Jordan.

Just thinking back to that day that the therapist rescued her from the unrelenting mercy of her father, she was forever grateful to the older woman. She took a big risk by helping her and if her father ever got wind of what she did, if he didn't already know, he wouldn't view it as an act of mercy on the part of the therapist, but what it legally was-kidnapping.

Jordan helped the teen into her seat, reaching across her to pull the seatbelt across her chest. Aubrey was more alert by now but her motor skills were slightly out of whack from the lack of nutrition.

"Alright, here's the receipt for your ticket if the driver asks," she explained placing the ticket stub in the teen's hand.

She reached into her purse and pulled out her wallet. She grabbed all of the money inside and placed it in the center of Aubrey's journal before handing it over to the teen.

"I didn't have that much in my wallet, but you can have all of it. Just to get you started out there. I managed to get your bible, which turned out to actually be a journal. That's very clever."

"Yeah...Beca gave it to me as a birthday present."

"You'll find her, Aubrey. If it's meant to be, you'll find her." She stood up and pulled a paper bag out of her purse, "It's a sandwich," she elaborated, leaning over to place a light kiss on Aubrey's forehead. "Eat. Sleep. It's a long bus ride."

Aubrey looked up at the therapist gratefully, "Thank you...for everything."

Jordan smiled softly at Aubrey, "There's no need to thank me. I—I just couldn't let my mother ruin your life like she ruined mine."

Aubrey stood up to hug Jordan, wishing there was another way to express her immense gratitude. All that the therapist had done for her, she knew she would never be able to repay her. They embraced, not sure if this would be the last time they might ever spoke, until the driver warning them that the bus was to depart in five minutes made them separate. Jordan wiped at a tear that fell from Aubrey's eyes and smiled at the younger girl.

"Go find your girl, she's waiting on you."

She signed her name on the last line of the page before closing it, having used ever page in the black bible-like journal. Knowing she would need a new one, and wanting to get out of the small apartment that she was currently renting from a bar owner, she stood to grab her coat. She didn't have much but she did manage to get a small job at a supermarket that helped her pay rent and keep food in her refrigerator.

She stepped outside the door of her apartment and closed the door, reaching into her pocket for her key.

"Hey, Aubrey."

Aubrey looked up, startled at the sudden presence of her landlord, the owner of the bar, Jacob.

"Gosh, you scared me," she said, sticking her key in her door to lock her apartment.

Jacob apologized as he continued to staple several flyers on a cork board posted outside the bar. "So, are you coming tonight?"

"Oh, your open-mic event is tonight," she said returning her keys to her purse.

"Yeah, and I know you write poetry, so why not stop by?"

Aubrey smiled at him but shook her head. She wasn't ready for anyone to hear her poetry. It was reserved for the two women she wrote it for, one of which was dead and the other had yet to be found. Maybe what Jordan said was right, if it were meant to be, they would find each other. It had been three months and she still hadn't found Beca, so maybe it wasn't meant to be.

"Um, no thank you."

Jacob looked over at her and said, "Alright. But if you change your mind, it's tonight at eight."

Aubrey nodded her head as she walked past the bar owner, and made her way down the street.

Aubrey's hand ghosted over the pages of the new journal once more before deciding it was the one she wanted. She walked to the cash register, placing it on the counter with a smile to the cashier. His name was Garret and he was the son of the owner of the small shop not far from her apartment. Since the first time she stumbled upon the small store, Garret had flirted with her constantly in a relentless effort to get her to agree to go on a date with him. He was sincere and courteous to her, but Aubrey turned him down each and every time because he wasn't Beca. She was waiting for Beca until they would finally reunite.

"And she returns." Garret said with a bright smile, ringing up the journal.

Aubrey smiled at him, unable to help thinking that he was someone her father would approve of. He was a student, a communications major at UCLA where he commuted from the home he shared with his parents. Well, that was all the information she gathered over a matter of weeks, Garret going out of his way to make sure he was the cashier on duty when she walked in the store. He was a really nice guy and he was devoutly Christian and if she showed up in Georgia with Garret on her arm, her father would definitely forgive her. Unfortunately, as much as she missed her father despite all he did to her, she didn't plan on ever dating Garret because like she mentioned before, he wasn't Beca.

"Hello Garret."

The cashier smiled as he placed her journal inside a paper bag, "So, have you considered my offer?"

Aubrey handed him a ten dollar bill and nodded her head, "Yes I have, and my answer hasn't changed. I'm an unavailable woman."

"Aw, really? Well he's one lucky fella."

Aubrey smiled, "Yeah she is." She took her bag and her change from Garret before exiting to the store. He really was a nice guy and had it been a year ago, she would have taken him up on his offer. After all, he really was someone Richard Posen would approve of. But now, after everything that has happened she wasn't looking for Richard Posen's approval anymore. She was in love with Beca and if he wouldn't or couldn't accept that then she didn't want him in her life.

Aubrey leisurely walked down the street in the cool autumn air, enjoying the serenity of the breeze on the quiet Sunday afternoon. Each shop she passed was already closed with darkened storefronts. A few joggers ran along with a pleasant nod of acknowledgement, and an older couple greeted her kindly with a 'good evening' while walking their Golden Labrador Retriever.

With the hard bound book tucked under her arm, her hands slid inside her jeans pockets, and she breathed in the pleasant air.

She wondered what Beca was doing at the moment. Was she writing another song or playing her guitar? She always told Aubrey that the first thing she'd buy when she got to Los Angeles was a guitar since she had left her old one behind when she was taken to the camp. Was she thinking about Aubrey? Missing her in the way Aubrey missed the brunette? Craving and aching her touch, missing her voice and wanting her kiss?

She was so distracted as she walked along the boardwalk she failed to notice a jogger coming straight towards her and when she realized that they were going to collide it was too late and she was being knocked to the ground before she could move out of the way.

"Shit!" the jogger cursed, removing her headphones and allowing them to come to rest around her neck as she extended her hand to help Aubrey.

"Are you alright—Aubrey?"

Aubrey looked up at the mention of her name wondering who this mystery person possibly could be. "Jane?"

"Wow, I know I said we'd meet up but you didn't have to run into me." Jane joked, pulling the blonde to her feet. Aubrey laughed as she dusted off her pants and bent over to pick up her bag.

"Yeah, what a way to reunite." Aubrey laughed, reaching out to hug the Bostonian.

Jane looked behind Aubrey and frowned, "Where's Beca?"

The two pulled apart and Aubrey sighed, "I haven't found her."

"What do you mean you haven't found her? How long have you been here?"

Aubrey bit her lip , "Um three months."

Jane looked at her bewildered, "Three months! And you still haven't found her?"

Aubrey nodded sadly, "Yeah. It's hard. I feel like I've looked everywhere. Maybe it's just not meant to be."

Jane, placed a firm hand on Aubrey shoulder, squeezing it to offer the blonde some comfort. "Hey, don't you dare. It is meant to be and I'm sure you guys will find each other when you least expect it."

Aubrey opened her mouth to respond but stopped at the sight of a small blonde jogging towards them, stopping when she reached Jane's side. "Jane, they didn't have any Gatorade so I just bought us water." She wiped at a few beads of sweat on her forehead before looking over to Aubrey. "Oh, who's this?"

"Maur, this is Aubrey. She was at the camp with me this summer," Jane explained, taking the water bottle from her girlfriend and opening it before taking a sip.

Maura smiled brightly, tucking her water bottle under her arm before extending her hand. "Hi I'm Maura. Jane has told me so much about all of you."

Aubrey glanced at Jane before smiling at Maura, "I hope it's all positive."

"Of course."

Aubrey looked back to Jane, taking in the green jogger's suit she wore with the large golden letter B embroidered on it. "So you're at Barden now?"

Jane nodded proudly, "Yeah. My parents may be complete jerks but they couldn't get in the way of my scholarship. I earned that on my own and nothing they did could take that away."

"Are you at Barden, too?" Aubrey asked turning to look at Maura.

Maura smiled at her and shook her head, "No, I'm at Stanford but I flew in this week to spend the holiday with Jane. What about you, are you in school?"

"Um, no not currently but I start at Barden in the spring semester."

Jane's hands flew up in excitement, "Really? That's awesome. It'll be a Westmore reunion at Barden. I ran into CR a couple of weeks back and she said she's starting in the spring too. And Paulie-well Paulie's being an ass hat but I think she's starting next year since she gets her inheritance and all that."

Maura reached out, slapping her girlfriend lightly on the arm, "Language, Jane."

"I'm sorry but she is. She's lucky that her parents couldn't touch her trust fund or who knows what she'd have chosen to do. You know she got accepted to Juliard and turned it down to come out here?"

"Jane, Pauline is capable of making her own decisions and if she thinks she'll be happier here than who's to stop her? Besides, with or without a trustfund, there are various courses of action she can take to ensure she receives a quality college education."

"Yeah, well you never can tell. After Vietnam, my pops told me never to trust the government."

Aubrey watched them banter for a few seconds over the security of the country, a sad feeling of nostalgia washing over her as it brought back memories of she and Beca. The way the small brunette would argue with her but at the same look at her with such love as if to say she'd concede if it meant making her smile. The way she was so guarded and cold to everyone else but so gentle and warm when they were alone.

Blinking away her tears, she looked down at her watch on her arm to pretend she actually cared what time it was. "Darn, I have to get going. I wish I could stay longer but I promised my landlord that I'd check out this even he's hosting."

Jane and Maura looked up from their conversation and nodded their heads in understanding. Jane stepped over and encased Aubrey in a hug. "It was good seeing you, Aubrey."

Jane pulled away and Maura extended her hand which Aubrey shook, "It was very nice meeting you Aubrey."

"It was nice meeting you as well, Maura."

The three extended goodbyes before Jane and Maura began jogging in the opposite direction, Jane glancing back at Aubrey once before the two were out of sight down the board walk.

Aubrey sighed and wiped at her eyes, glad to be out of the eye of Jane and Maura which allowed her to cry freely. What if Jane was wrong? What if she didn't find Beca?

There was no way she could back to her empty apartment in this condition with nothing but her thoughts to taunt her and make her miss the brunette even more.

Maybe she consider Jacob's offer after all.

"Aubrey, you made it!"

Aubrey looked over to where Jacob was making his way over to her and waved politely. He reached out and gave her a small hug to which she returned before saying, "Yeah. I decided, why not at least stop by. But, I'm not performing."

Jacob chuckled and pulled away from the blonde, "That's ok. I just really want you to know all that happens right below where you sleep."

"Yeah, well I'm here."

"Yeah you are. Can I get you a drink or something? The next performer should be coming up any moment."

Aubrey looked back at Jacob from where she was looking around the bar, surveying the room and its patrons. "Um, do you have water?"

"Yeah, I'll be right back."

Aubrey watched him walk away toward the bar before looking toward the stage, the clapping of everyone pulling her to the direction where the next performer was setting up. The singer walked on stage with her guitar in tote, waving awkwardly at the crowd.

It all happened so fast, in such slow motion before their very eyes. Aubrey could hear her heart hammering loudly as all of the air was sucked out of her. Jade green orbs caught slate gray ones and a scream erupted inside her head begging her mind to stop being cruel to her. There was no way she was here, right here the entire time.

Beca's mouth fell open in disbelief, and her heart threatened to pound right out of her chest. She could not utter a syllable. She didn't know what to think or do when there before her stood a vision she never thought she'd behold again. There she was, in true form, not some cruel trick her mind was playing on her and as much as she wanted to run off the stage and take her into her arms, Beca remembered that she was on stage with a group of people waiting for her to perform. She cleared her throat and adjusted herself on the stool on which she sat before leaning towards the microphone.

"Um, this song is called 'I Can't Sleep,' I wrote it for someone special and she knows who she is."

Clearing her throat, she adjusted the guitar on her lap before she played the opening chords.

I've been up all night long
Just waitin' on the sun
I've given up, damn the dawn
It ain't never gonna come

Something's wrong
As long as you're gone

I'm not gonna sleep 'til I touch your face
Baby, not a wink I could go for days
If you ever needed to see me down on my knees
Take a look at me, baby, I can't sleep

Remember when you said we wouldn't last
I couldn't swallow my pride
Whoa, it's sinkin' in, baby, losin' you has
Finally opened my eyes

I'm wide awake
As long as it takes

And I'm not gonna sleep 'til I touch your face
Baby, not a wink I could go for days
If you ever needed to see me down on my knees
Take a look at me, baby I can't sleep

I'm not gonna sleep 'til I touch your face
Baby, not a wink I could go for days
If you ever needed to see me down on my knees
Take a look at me, baby I can't sleep

'Til I touch your face
Baby, not a wink I could go for days
I'm not gonna sleep 'til I touch your face
Baby, not a wink, I can't sleep

Oh, I can't sleep
Oh, I can't sleep
Oh, I can't sleep

They weren't in Aubrey's apartments more than a few seconds before she was in Beca's arms, her legs wrapped around the small brunette's waist as she was effortlessly carried to her bed, both engaged in a heated kiss filled with a desire to make up for lost time and passion. Laying Aubrey down gently on her bed, Beca lied beside her, gazing lovingly at the face she committed to memory. The blonde's hair was much lighter in color now and shorter too. The loose curls framed her , facial features beautifully. She wiped at the tears which spilled down her cheeks with the back of a hand before softly caressing the cheeks before her.

"I've missed you so much," Aubrey whispered softly, closing her eyes while squeezing the hand on her cheek. A soft warm set of lips gently and sweetly pressed against hers and then just as tenderly pulled back. Green orbs opened with a loving smile and saw the unspoken questions within gentle grey eyes. Her body slightly stirred with amorous feelings, and she knew in her heart that she wanted - needed to connect physically with Beca again. She was not terrified to be with the brunette again, but she was apprehensive of her mind and spirit being brought to heaven only to wake up and realize that it was all a dream—that she was still in hell.

Sensing her girlfriend's turmoil, Beca used her thumb to gently stroke the skin of Aubrey's neck, her voice taking on a serious tone, "I'm not going anywhere. I'm yours and you're mine."

Darkened jade green eyes shot the brunette a look of surprise and recognition. Aubrey's eyebrows drew together, remembering the last time she heard those words, and it tugged at a painful part of her heart. "Yes," she hesitantly began, "I...remember."

Reaching up, she coursed her hands through Beca's hair, pulling the brunette down on top of her and connecting their lips. Aubrey's mind spun with the heady desires swirling around them. It felt so damn good to have the brunette in her arms again.

Not breaking the kiss, Aubrey reached down and pulled her shirt over her head, carelessly throwing it to the side.

Beca reached under her, unsnapping the blonde's bra, and then sliding it off. Quickly moving up on her knees, she proceeded to remove her own sports bra. Shifting over, Aubrey took the opportunity to slide her jeans and underwear off, and watched as Beca removed her denim shorts. When their bodies came together again, breasts upon breasts and heated centers blending, Aubrey's back automatically arched. Lips came together in a crushing kiss which left them needing more. Beca nipped and nibbled at the sensitive flesh below her love's earlobe, and continued down her neck, peppering kisses across her flesh.

Aubrey's fingers threaded through Beca's sandy brown hair, gripping the locks in a silent attempt to urge her to not stop.

"Jesus," the blonde hissed as she felt Beca's now free hand slide down her flattened belly to caress the flaxen curls below her waist. She looked down at Aubrey for confirmation before entering her gently. Aubrey urged her on until they found a steady rhythm that carried Aubrey closer to her peak.

Aubrey clutched and clawed at Beca's back with her fingernails, pulling her closer and tighter with an insistent need which had to be filled. Her hips began to buck as she neared the precipice of her release. She buried her face in Beca's neck and began nipping and licking the exposed flesh. Suddenly she felt the body in front of her shift, and then a set of teeth lightly sunk into the flesh below her earlobe while at the same time the talented fingers thrust harder upwards.

They held one another tightly almost for fear of this all being a dream. When their breathing calmed, Beca slowly extricated her fingers, and then looked into the almost glowing emerald green eyes she loved. Tenderly she stroked a cheek, and watched as Aubrey leaned into her hand.

She drew Aubrey in for a kiss she hoped conveyed that she also felt this consuming nostalgic love.

They lay in each other's arms as Aubrey tried to regain control of her breathing. Turning her head to the side, she saw Beca watching her with a smile.

"That was amazing," she softly stated in an almost hoarse whisper.

Beca's smile grew in response, especially as she noticed the satisfied expression on her face that seemed to be brimming with not only contentment but affection as well.

"It's been too long."

"Exactly," Aubrey commented as she bit her lip and gave a sly smile to the brunette above her. Beca narrowed her eyes in suspicion at the devious grin on her girlfriend's face but before she could question it, Aubrey flipped her over and began sliding down her body.

Beca just looked down in amazement. This was a scene right out of her dreams. Reuniting with Aubrey was truly overwhelming. Aubrey's tongue was moving inside her, licking deeply as the blonde worked hard, tasting her depths and providing extreme pleasure. Beca felt her legs wrap around Aubrey's head, her walls tightening around the tongue inside her.

"Oh god, it's good," Beca moaned. "It's really fucking good."

Aubrey would have smiled if she could. Instead, she tried to step up the experience. If she was going to do this, she was going to do it well. Like her dad always says, 'if at first you don't succeed, pack your bags,' and she'd be damned if she didn't succeed at giving Beca the same pleasure the brunette had given her.

Her hands snaked around Beca's waist and grabbed her butt, lifting it and exposing even more of her girlfriend to her eager mouth. Aubrey began tonguing deeper, more insistently, not relenting for a second. Her hand reached up to caress Beca's breast which the brunette must have liked because her hand immediately gripped her hand, holding it against herself tighter. Taking a break for air, simultaneously nibbling on a thigh, she made eye contact and got to see the effect she was having as Beca moaned and bucked in pleasure.

"Fuck…" Beca breathed out as she felt the jolting electricity of Aubrey's tongue, lips and teeth on her most sensitive spot.

Aubrey was so close to bringing her to orgasm that Beca could only pant the one ingredient she knew would send her over the edge.

"I-Inside," she panted her request.

Aubrey heard and responded. Her own two fingers found Beca's opening and began returning what she'd received. The deep groan of satisfaction only made Aubrey's confidence grow.

Aubrey quickened the pace of her thrusts and her oral efforts as Beca bucked in pleasure. She was torn. She wanted Beca to climax as intensely as her own orgasm but she wanted this sex to last. She did her best to vary the pace, to give Beca stretches of intense pleasure followed by slower thrusts. Beca was not content to take that passively, however, as her slower efforts were met by harder bucks from Beca's hips and passionate urges to go faster.

"Come on," Aubrey said in a tone and with words that even surprised her, "cum for me baby, cum for your girl."

Beca didn't know if it was Aubrey's fingers or her tongue or just hearing Aubrey referring to herself as her girl or the more likely mix of it all but it was her turn to do as commanded.

Beca arched her back towards Aubrey while her hands moved and gripped the bed sheet, her entire body rigid as the quick orgasm ran through her. With a long drawn out groan, Beca curled up. Every muscle in her body contracting as her orgasm ripped through her massively. The groan turned to a whine, high pitched, as her back arched upward and her legs contracted towards her stomach. The contortions came and went quickly as her feet fell back onto the bed and her hips lifted. Aubrey pulled out her hand and Beca squealed as she came, the sudden loss within her triggering another wave. As one orgasm rolled into the next and the walls of her cunt contracted her hand flew up to her mouth to muffle the loud scream that erupted from her.

"I love you." Aubrey breathed, crawling up Beca's body to place light kisses along her face.

She watched as the mixture of emotions ripped across her girlfriend's face as she continued to rub her, listening to Beca's half protests at the attention, the spasms still rippling through her body. Aubrey pushed deeper and Beca suddenly reached down and hurriedly pulled Aubrey's hand away, turning on her side and rolling onto her stomach.

Aubrey moved up to rest atop Beca a gentle hand curling around her waist. As she did, a massive shiver went through Beca as Aubrey touched her hypersensitive skin. Hushing her gently, Aubrey placed a kiss on Beca's shoulder and simply held the trembling woman close.

Beca, finally beginning to gain some semblance of normalcy after an intense orgasm, breathed deeply before whispering loud enough for Aubrey to hear, "I bet they don't teach that in Sunday school."

The cool November breeze softly blew amidst the bright yellow sun above. On the bed, Aubrey snuggled closer to the warmth beneath her. She inhaled the long ago familiar fragrance as her mind slowly awakened to happy memories of her lover. "I've missed you so much," Beca whispered. "Missed being able to do this."

The blonde could not stop the moan that escaped her throat. Long fingers smoothly slid just beneath the blanket caressing the soft sensitive skin across her abdomen. Teeth grazed the side of her alabaster neck, eliciting another moan. Aubrey exhaled deeply, "You don't know how much I wished that you were next to me. Sometimes it was just so much...missing you...that I couldn't sleep at night..." Her words trailed off a second as a wave of desire made her body shudder.

"I'm right here my love. Feel me with you. I'm never letting go." Beca crooned tenderly.

Hearing her admission, Aubrey sought her lips. Turning around, she kissed Beca with all the love inside of her being, her hand taking purchase of the raven locks, gripping the back of the head firmly, indicating the deep-seated need for the contact. Beca cupped her cheek as their arduous kiss turned to flames. When it became apparent that air was needed, they broke away reluctantly.

"I've missed you so much, Bree. God I've missed you."

Aubrey smiled at her, her hand coming up to rest upon the hand on her cheek. She pulled the brunette's hand from her face and placed a light kiss on the back, her eyes taking in the new tattoo on her girlfriend's knuckles. A letter painted on each finger to spell out 'Bree'.

"Is that—"

Beca chuckled and grabbed a hold of Aubrey's hand, turning it over to reveal her wrist. She placed a gentle kissed on the raised skin, smiling down at the girl next to her.

"With those three numbers you—you cut a permanent place for me in your life and I need something just as permanent."

Aubrey looked up at Beca, unable to form an adequate response. It was almost too good to be true. That after all that they went through, they would finally get their happy ending.

"I—I never thought I'd ever love anyone after Amanda but Beca, you really changed me. I'm a completely different person because of you."

"Well you aren't so bad yourself," Beca joked, laughing when Aubrey reached up to slap her on the arm.

"I'm kidding. I'm kidding!" she laughed before leaning down to kiss Aubrey. "I love you, Bree."

Aubrey nodded, "Good. Because I definitely didn't want to go to this alone." She reached over to her side table and pulled out a card, handing it to Beca, "I hear Ontario's great that time of year."

Beca looked at the envelope in confusion before taking the card and opening it, "Together, Jordan Ramsey and Katlyn Summers cordially invite you to join in their celebration of love as they join hands in matrimony."

Beca laughed breathily as she sat up, dropping her legs over the edge of the bed, "Hah, I'm glad Jordan finally had the balls to marry her. I'm happy for her."

"Yeah, me too, and hopefully we can see everyone again."

Beca looked back to where Aubrey laid on the bed, looking at her trough hazy and happy green eyes. "Yeah, but even if I never saw any of them again, I'm just glad I found you."

Aubrey smiled deeply, sitting up and reaching out to hold her girlfriend's hand, "Me too."

Beca reluctantly pulled away from the blonde and stood up, "Alright, well the Westmore Institute did teach me how to make breakfast so let me see what I can make us."

Aubrey immediately shielded her eyes, telling her girlfriend in a mock stern voice, "Beca, you know nudity is strictly against rule number 12."

Beca turned back to the girl in bed, laughing soundly as Aubrey dropped her hands from her eyes, reviling in the look of pure love Beca gave her.

"God, Beca. I thought I'd lost you forever."

Beca leaned down and place a light kiss on Aubrey's forehead, "Nope. You're stuck with me."

"Forever?"

"Forever."
