Chapter L: Madness in the Dimming Light

Last Time.

Naruto walked beside a stand just as Green Arrow went into the cage with Wildcat protesting. "Oh, you want to fight a woman instead?" Green Arrow asked having Wildcat throw a punch. Both men fought with Wildcat having the advantage, bruising Green Arrows face and threw him throughout the cage.

They continued even after Black Canary ran out and was held back by security. After several minutes, Wildcat uppercuts Green Arrow who fell on his back and didn't move. Wildcat checked his pulse and didn't feel any before Naruto grabbed the two men holding Canary and broke their arms before throwing them away.

Canary ran in just as Roulette did. "No more. I'm done. For good." Wildcat said just as Naruto pressed a button on his arm piece calling the police to the building. Later, Naruto saw Green Arrow move as Canary was kneeling by him. Arrow groaned as he explained that he used a stunner to fake being dead so Wildcat would quit before they left with Wildcat.

Later, Watchtower.

Kage saw Wildcat go into a room with J'onn to work out his need to fight before seeing Canary walk with a bandaged Green Arrow. They left on a coffee date before Naruto yelled out. "Seriously! Screw and get it over with already!"

Now.

The Watchtower, Morning.

Naruto walked down the hall towards the transporting deck before seeing two people walk past him.

The first is a man wearing a red costume that's yellow on the chest to the waist with a matching mask. Green boots, gloves, and a cape.

The next is a tall woman with long black hair. She's wearing a headdress similar to a civic crown, a red tank top, leather short shorts, and shoes. She's wearing black metal arm bands and bracers that goes up to her forearm.

Naruto made a wide berth at the anger radiating from her as she muttered something about J'onn. He blinked before continuing just as Flash dashed past him. "Hurry! We've got to get to Boston!" Naruto jumped up as Green Lantern, Fire, Green Arrow, and Red Tornado.

"Wake me up... Middle of a perfectly good dream as well..." Green arrow said standing beside Fire before Naruto turned to face the front of the platform. "Not going to say hi to your mate, Kit?" Naruto sighed as Kurama spoke up. 'Shut up Kurama! It's awkward enough with Shayera. Now you're bringing in my alternate self's wives into it?'

Naruto said to Kurama, annoyed at his teasing since learning his Lord counterpart is with both Vixen and Fire. (1.) Suddenly, Naruto saw that they transported to a Boston city block that's torn before hearing Green Lantern speak out. "Arrow! Fire! Tornado! Kage! Hold them off!"

Naruto looked to see three aliens wearing the same outfit. A red full body suit with black lines over the chest and arms, and white gloves and boots.

One alien punched another with blue skin and four fingers wearing the Green Lantern Corps. uniform.

Naruto dashed over and created a Rasengan (Spiraling Sphere) and hit one in the stomach. "Rasengan (Spiraling Sphere)!" The alien was sent back before Naruto heard Green Lantern from behind him. "Zibar. Can you hear me?" He asked the now identified Zibar who groaned.

"Terran language... I am in Sector 2814...?" Zibar said as Green Lantern helped him up. "Honored Zibar... Can you hear me?" Green Lantern asked as Zibar shook his head. "The Triptych..." Zibar trailed off as the Triptych stood back to back.

"The Triptych? Is that the name of the creatures attacking you? What do you know about them? How can we stop them?" Green Lantern asked as the Triptych reached behind themselves to high five. "Do not... Let them touch hands..."

CRACK! BOOM!

Orange lightning came off the trio before Green Lantern hit each with a beam. "Tajū Kage Bunshin no Jutsu. (Multiple Clone Technique.)" Naruto created three clones to follow after each one before looking back to the two Green Lanterns who were having a dispute. "You tell me to stay down?! I wore the ring before your sun was lit!"

"This is a crisis, Brother Lantern. You and your servants will defer to me!" Zibar said angrily to Green Lantern who nodded. Naruto sighed at that as Zibar's ring lit up. "Time and time again, I have thought them defeated, only to have them return with new schemes of evil!"

Zibar explained before Fire, in her depowered form began to speak up. "Ayii, sounds like any other villain we face." Zibar projected the Earth and continued to explain. "They attacked me in my home sector. Thinking me too aged to defend myself... Or the Worlds under my protection."

"Though their power has seemingly increased to the point where I could not defeat them unless properly prepared... I managed to lead them away from my sector! I will find them. Await my orders." Zibar finished having Green Lantern nod. As Zibar scanned, Green Lantern explained that Zibar was one of the first Green Lanterns who have served for a millennia.

"It looks like he should have retired long ago." Green Arrow said before Red Tornado spoke up. "Green Arrow's assessment is correct. Zibar's extreme age seems to have left him no match for his enemies." Green Lantern stared at Red Tornado before speaking. "Meaning?"

"The sensible course is for us to assume the primary role in defeating the alien attackers. My vortex powers, Fire's mastery of heat, Kage's shinobi arts, Green Arrow's marksmanship, and your own Power Ring should be enough to the cause." Tornado explained, having Fire nod in agreement.

"Si (Yes). We don't need Vovo Lanterna (Grandmother Flashlight) ordering us around... We'll handle the Triptych." She said having Lantern raise his hands. "You want me to tell Zibar to stand down? Against his archfoes? You don't understand... His experience. His knowledge... I could never tell him to stand down."

"Why not? You never have any trouble ordering us around! Don't let the fact that you don't want to embarrass the old-timer get in the way of making a smart decision!" Green Arrow said holding his bow. "That has nothing to do with it! Zibar has fought them before! He knows them! If he wants us to listen to him, we listen!"

"Brother Lantern! I have located the Triptych. They come from the direction of your Sun, approaching at high speed." Zibar said looking at his ring as the Earth disappeared. "Tell your servants that the Triptych are genetically enhanced. They adapt to combat different opponents."

"Make sure they know the Triptych can fly." Fire huffed at that before speaking. "Tell the velho conservador (old conservative) that we heard him just fine, gracias (thank you)!" Red Tornado walked over to them as Naruto watched their surroundings, staying quiet through the talk.

"The Triptych also have great strength and when they come together..." Zibor was interrupted by Red Tornado. "They create concussion blasts." Zibor nodded at that before speaking. "Having felled you once, they will strike in group formation once more! I will stay here as bait."

"You five take higher ground... When they attack me, you will surprise them!" Green Arrow walked up and glared. "Tell you what, you find a rocking chair, and we'll-!" He was interrupted by Naruto. "That's fine. Everyone, get in place." everyone but Green Lantern who stayed to talk to Zibar left to hide.

Naruto landed on a rooftop and waited for several minutes. He turned and jumped out-of-the-way as one Triptych tried to hit him. Only for Naruto to hit him with a Rasengan (Spiraling Sphere) and sent him crashing down to the ground, knocking him out. Naruto landed down and saw the others finished with the other two before walking to Green Lantern.

Green Lantern convinced Zibar to let his ring find his successor and become a teacher for new recruits before they flew up and went back to Oa.

The Watchtower.

Kage pulled his mask down as he walked towards the showers and saw Flash dash past him. "I call dibs on the green one!" He said before hearing J'onn. "I wanted the green one." Naruto chuckled before continuing his walk, putting his hands in his pockets.

A Few Days Later, Just Past The Moon.

Kage fixed his red space suit on and looked to see Supergirl and Mist piloting. "Are you sure the radar picked something up?" Supergirl said as Naruto nodded. "Yeah, some sort of ping a few hours ago. And some leaguers said they saw something reflecting right before it as well."

Naruto hit a button having a clear wall separate them before the door behind him open just as they landed. Naruto jumped out and looked around before seeing something reflecting just in front of him. Naruto jumped over and saw the American Flag to his right before stopping at a silver pod with a fogged window.

Wiping the glass, his eyes widened at what he saw. "Holy shit!"

The Watchtower.

J'onn walked to the Medical area of the Tower before going into a room where he saw Kage and Mist without their masks, and Supergirl. "What's wrong? Why did you call..." He trailed off as Naruto moved out-of-the-way and saw a female Martian about Supergirl's height sleeping on a bed with an oxygen mask. (2.)

"M'gann." He said walking to her as Naruto and the others left.

A Week Later, The Watchtower.

Kage waved at Shayera while walking to his room after finishing a mission. Suddenly,someone pulled him into a room. "What's up, Kara? Looking for a little space lovemaking?" Naruto asked Supergirl who was glaring at him. "I told you not to hang out with her." Naruto rolled his eyes at that.

"I just helped her with a mission, Kara. Besides, we're still friends. And if we're able to get past what happened then, maybe..." he trailed off, a hopeful gleam in his eyes. Kara, however, could only look in disbelief.

"How could you even think about taking her back?! After everything she did, all the damage she caused?!" she exclaims. Naruto holds her arms gently, which got her to calm down slightly.

"Kara, she did what she thought was best for her home planet. You already know that the people of my world have done practically the same thing. In some cases, even worse things." he tells her.

"I know that. The difference is that none of them have been as close to me or the rest of us. Nor did any of them share things as closely as we did with her. For God's sake we even shared... intimacy with her! And now you're expecting me to just welcome her back with open arms?!"

She yells in anger. Naruto takes her head in his hands and pulls her in for a kiss. When they separate, Naruto looks her in the eyes. "Kara, I'm not expecting you or the others to just let her back in with open arms. Like I said, if we end up mending what was broken, maybe then. But that process is going to take time."

"A lot of time. And that'll only happen once everyone is comfortable. That includes you." he tells her while having his hand cup her cheek. Kara lets out an exhausted sigh as she holds the hand cupping her cheek.

They then went to the meeting room and saw Flash, Batman, Superman, and another man talking to one sitting down at the table.

The first man is wearing a red costume with yellow on the legs, and a star on his chest. He's wearing a cowl showing his short blonde hair and yellow glasses.

The man sitting down is in a two toned blue costume. It's dark blue from his cowl to his shoulders and gloves the rest is light blue coming up to form a beetle on his chest.

He explained how the group called the Madmen stole a Nuclear warhead he was tasked to protect while it was being transported to another city before Batman spoke up. "We can infer they mean to arm the missile and intend to use it." THe first man looked to Batman, raising an eyebrow. "But on what?"

"Starman's got a point Batman, how can we figure that out? These guys are lunatics!" Blue Beetle sai as Batman walked to the computer. "These lunatics are also criminals, all criminals have tendencies, patterns... And I'm a detective."

Later.

Starman walked up to Batman who was still on the computer. "You've been at it for hours... Any luck?" He asked as Batman stared at the screen. "Not yet, but it's a matter of time." Starman sighed as he turned around. "I mean, the Madmen have already got the bomb, right? They could be about to use it now for all we know!"

"It's a shame we don't have anybody crazy on the Justice League roster that could help us with how the Madmen think..." Batman stopped typing for a moment before speaking. "We do."

Later, the group met back in the meeting room as one man did a handstand on the back of a chair and spun around.

He has yellow skin, green hair, black and green stripped trunks, red gloves, boots and a large fur boa around his shoulders and over his back.

"You Rrrraaaaannngggg?" He he asked with a crazed grin as the others sighed. "We don't have time for this Creeper! We told you why we need your help!" Superman said crossing his arms. "Oh, but it's just so nice to be needed! You don't call, you don't write." Creeper said before flipping to crouch on the back of the chair.

"Now you see why we don't invite him to many meetings." Flash whispered at Starman before Creeper looked at Supergirl. "What say you and I head to Aruba, Supergirl, and you catch me up on every little thing." Supergirl's face scrunched up at that. "Ew! As if-!"

"Oh come on Kara, I've seen the looks you give him. I don't want to stand in your way of true love." Naruto said trying to hold his grin as she looked back in shock. She looked back and forth at Naruto and the others before letting out a frustrated growl and left. 'And that's why I'm the king.'

Naruto thought as he heard Supergirl let out a scream as soon as the door closed. "Help us, or don't, but get on with it Creeper!" Batman yelled kicking the chair having Creeper fall in the seat. "Tsk, tsk, Dark Knight... Just 'cause you're not brainy enough to catch the Madmen doesn't mean you can take it out on loveable, canary-colored me!"

"Time to teach you some manners... Creeper-Style!" Creeper said bringing his hands up before Superman grabbed him. "Creeper... Sit!" He said pushing Creeper back in the chair." Okay, okay, Madmen you want, Madmen you'll get." Creeper said with a sigh before Starman spoke up. "You know something about these nutballs Creeper?"

Creeper stood up and threw his arms to his sides. "But of course, Starman! We wackos always keep track of our competition! Gotta stay current on the latest trends in insanity don'cha know!" He said before turning to leave. "I've got a few leads to check out. But they're best pursued quietly. By me, solo..."

"Y'all stay here and if I can turn anything up, I'll give you a call to come a-runnin'."

Batman and Naruto walked with him. "Wrong. I trust you as far as I can throw you. So we're coming along. Where to?" Creeper turned to them and slouched as he spoke. "To where you will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy... Newark!"

Newark, New Jersey, Night.

A man with short black hair, wearing a green shirt under a leather jacket and jeans wheezed as he stopped in an alley.

"Listen to you, Gordie... Wheezing like a '59 Buick! If you're smart, you'll get yourself an exercise program." Gordie looked to see Kage, Batman, And Creeper staring at him from the shadows. "That is, if you want to stay alive." Creeper finished before explaining that Gordie was a Madman.

Gordie explained he quit the group several months ago because he wanted to stop going to jail all the time. "I been seeing a therapist, taking medication! I've been doing real good!" Batman narrowed his eyes as they continued to question him. Gordie explained that the group was going to nuke Coney Island.

Naruto reported it to the Watchtower before seeing Gordie was gone. Creeper smiled before taking off in the direction Gordie took. As they followed, Creeper explained that the Madmen would go after Gordie now that he squealed on them before they stopped and saw Gordie packing.

"They wouldn't be crazy enough to just drop the nuke for one man, right?" Naruto asked before Creeper pointed ahead showing the Madmen dropping the nuke in Gordie's chimney.

Each man is dressed in multi colored clothes and has wild hair.

"Of course they would be." Naruto said before jumping to them. After beating the Madmen, and disarming the nuke Naruto sighed as Batman looked to Creeper. "Well, it looks like that wraps up this case! Guess I knew what I was doing and belong in the League after all. Right, Batty-Boy? Someone owes me an a-pol-o-gy..."

Creeper said looking back at the duo. "Creeper, you may have been right, but if you think you're going to get an apology out of me... You're crazy." Batman said as Naruto tied the Madmen up.

The Watchtower, A Week Later.

Naruto walked past a room before hearing a theme song play. He looked inside and smiled. "Hey M'gann." He greeted M'gann who now looks like a green-skinned female humanoid with amber eyes and shoulder-length red hair. She also has freckles on her cheeks.

Her outfit consists of a short-sleeved white top with a red X on it, along with blue skirt, cape, gloves, and ankle high boots.

"Hello Naruto." Naruto saw her pause a show with a girl that looks like M'gann's form but is Caucasian. "Learning everything alright?" He asked as she nodded. "Yep! Uncle J'onn as been helping me." Naruto smiled before walking away. As he left her room, he suddenly felt a slight head rush, along with a brief image of M'gann with a tray of freshly baked cookies.

Naruto shook his head and said to himself, "Man. Another deja vu episode. If I get any more of those I'll start to think I'm living some other life. Which in this job doesn't sound like a stretch." Naruto said before a blur ran past him. "Damn it, Rev! Watch where you're going!"

Naruto yelled as the blur stopped showing an anthropomorphic Roadrunner with red feathers and a black suit. (3.)

Rev dashed away before he heard Cheetah walk up beside him. "What's his story?" Naruto sighed as he looked to her. "He's Flash from a few thousands years from now. One day he found a Museum for the previous Flash and found a time travelling treadmill." She raised an eyebrow at that before Naruto continued.

"And like 20-30 years from now, 'Splicing' will be the next big thing. He told me that's what he is." She blinked at that before speaking. "Splicing?" Naruto nodded before pointing at her. "It's... what you did to yourself." Her jaw dropped at that before she grabbed him by the collar.

"You mean to tell me, becoming half an animal will be in style?!" Naruto nodded again before reaching down and squeezed her ass before flashing to his room.
