Chapter Six: Let Me Get To Know You.

A pin dropping to the ground and echoing off the walls would have been enough sound to end the horrendous silence. Clary balled her hands into fists at her side, tears desperately wanting to spill from her eyes, but for some reason they refused to.

"There has to be something you can do," Sebastian spoke up, his voice hoarse and strained. "Right? I mean you are a member of the cla—"

"Shut it." Jace snapped, shooting a glare in the direction of Sebastian. "If it wasn't for you two and your children a lot of problems for everyone could have be avoided."

"Jace, I'm sorry." Clary said softly, looking at the ground but slowly looking up at Jace, pleading to him with her eyes to understand. "But they're my babies, I couldn't just let them die. I know you wouldn't understand, but as a mother I just…"

"Give it a break, Clary." Jace told her, pinching the bridge on his nose and rubbing one of his eyes. "All you're doing at this point is making excuses, and now that's the last thing anyone needs." Jace bit his bottom lip and walked over to them both, grabbing Clary's hand lightly and helping her up. Without protest Clary did as silently instructed. "You're allowed to be out of the cell, Clary. He isn't." Jace firmly said, referring to her husband.

Clary gave Sebastian a sympathetic look and mouth the words 'I'm sorry' before walking out of the cell with Jace. Jace closed the door behind them both, now leaving Sebastian in the cold dark cell alone.

The young white haired female walked the halls of the institute, admiring the art lining the walls and the design of the building. Her eyes lingered on one painting of what appeared to be angel, blood dripping from his wrist and into a cup of some sort.

"Beautiful, isn't it?"

Alexa let out a short scream and jumped, the sudden new voice joining her, the fright turned her two shades paler. "You scared the living day lights out of me, Max." She told him, placing a hand over her chest and letting out a short sigh.

"My apologies." Max said, giving a short bow. "I didn't mean to scare you." He smiled. "I merely wanted to find you, and ask you if you wish to attend lunch with me?"

"What about Jonathan?" She said softly, biting her bottom lip nervously. Alexa wanted him to join them for one reason only, to make sure she didn't say anything to blow their cover, admitted she wasn't too sure about everything that has happened.

"Oh, him." Max scratched the back of his head and laughed worriedly. "No offence or anything towards your brother, but I don't think he likes me, and I'd rather not invite him if that's the case."

"Oh," The shock in her simple word told him more then what she'd hoped. "If that's how you feel then… I guess it should be alright for the two of us to dine together."

"Then it's a date." He sounded really happy.

Alexa looked at him oddly and raised a brow at the word 'date'.

"Oh, no. Not a date, but two friends going to lunch together. Well actually, we aren't even really on friend status yet are we?" He rambled nervously and Alexa giggled.

"It's two hungry people, going to get a bite to eat and talking." She told him.

Max stopped rambling and smiled. "I like the sounds of that."

She giggled softly. "Good." She turned on her heel, leading the way out, thankful she actually remember the way out. "And besides, I'm sure Jon would kill you if it was a date."

"I don't need another reason for him to hate me."

She laughed again. "Agreed. But don't worry about him, he just hates the world. He's just another emo in my opinion."

"Makes sense." He laughed softly along with her. "So, it's going to be a long walk there, and I think I've heard a lot about your brother. Tell me about yourself."

Alexa looked at the ground, crossing her arms over her stomach self-consciously. "What do you want to know?"

"Likes. Dislikes. Weird fetishes."

She blushed a little. "Weird fetishes?"

He laughed again. "Just tell me about you. I don't judge, so tell me anything."

They finally reached the exited of the institute, the walking through the halls hadn't taken as long with him by her side. They say when you met someone you liked, time stood still, but being with Max then time sped up. What the Hell did that mean? Well she sure as Hell wasn't in love with him, she wasn't the romantic type, and she only just met him. She wasn't the Disney princess type.

"Okay… well, my middle name is Hope."

"Alexa Hope, that's a beautiful name, matches a beautiful girl." His voice was neutral, so she couldn't tell if he really meant it or not.

"You're strange."

"How so?" He asked, pushing his glasses up his nose.

"You're all jokey one minute, serious the next, and have no emotion when you speak straight after."

"And?" Max said, raising a brow as he looked down at her. "I jump through emotions quickly. There's nothing wrong with that."

"Isn't that…" Alexa thought for a moment before looked up at him. "Called bipolar?"

Max froze, his footsteps stopping completely and he looked down at the ground, as in trying to shelter his face from everything around him. Alexa stopped a few steps ahead of him, looking back sadly and with worry for the boy. "Max, are you okay?"

After a minute he recomposed himself, looking back up with a bright smile. "Of course I am. Though I'm starving, let's get a move on." He said, quickly walking by Alexa and continuing that for the rest of the walk, always being two steps ahead of her.

When they finally reached the place Alexa looked at it and smiled. A small cute café, out the front on a small chalkboard was scribbled down a few things.

Max opened the door and gestured for her to enter first, which she did. They ordered together and sat down together in a small booth at the back of the café, barely any conversation was shared between the two.

"Max, are you okay?" She asked again for the second time that day.

"Why must you ask again?" He said, looking over at her from his side of the booth.

"Seriously?" She rolled her eyes. "When we first met you wouldn't shut up, now I'm lucky to get a few words out of you."

"That's just me."

"I liked the you before."

Max looked at her with surprise in his eyes before giving her a soft smile. "Glad to hear, I was starting to think you hated me." He said kindly.

"Why would you think that?" She asked him.

He shrugged. "The way you look, hold yourself, what your eyes say. Is something on your mind?"

She shook her head quickly. "No, nothing at all."

He looked at her worriedly but accepted the answer. "Okay, so we are here to get to know more about each other. Tell me every detail, no missing out anything."

She giggled. "Okay."
