"Heh."

That was the very first thing Souji said as he laid eyes on the baby.
He made no advanced towards it either since he would be disturbing the sleeping babe.
Nobody wants to wake a sleeping baby after all, Chizuru went through the process of putting it back to sleep.

He slowly crept closer to the woman currently holding the sleeping babe.

Her posture leaning against on the room door and securing her arms around the bundle.
Chizuru's eyes remained shut from exhaustion of her daily chores and taking care of the little one.

"Meow." Goes the black ball of fur resting at the foot of the slumbering woman.

Souji places his index finger to his lips, making out a quiet sound.

"Shhh, Toshizo don't move or I'll sick you on Hijikata-san." That made the cat lay back down and stretched his body.

He turned his attention back to the sleeping couple and smiled at them. "I wonder what the future holds for you kid." Scratching the back of his head at the thought of the little bundle remembering them after growing up. "Although, I never knew Chizuru looked cute while she slept."

Souji brushed her bands away from her face, then gave a peck to her forehead before leaving the room and slowly closed the door.

Ten minutes after Souji's departure, Chizuru stirred in her slumber then slowly opened her eyes to meet an empty room.
She slowly sat up and adjusted her hold on the bundle before laying it on her futon. "I hope you don't wake up now, I had less sleep because of you."

Running a hand through her bangs she look around the room as if she felt someone in the room.
She shrugged at that thought and open the door to the hallway of the house, only to be met with a basket on the floor. It had three wrapped Onigiri, a written note and, one large bird feather.
Chizuru read the note first before lifting up the feather.

Chizuru,
I couldn't really wake your sleeping face, it's cute even if you do drool.
Makes me wonder if that kid was actually yours and not abandoned.
Anyway, Hijikata-san told me to bring this basket to you in case you get hungry.
Remember, It's Heisuke's turn to look after him when it turns evening.
Almost forgot, Toshizo might be bored so give him that feather.
You do remmeber the bird we helped with it's wing right?

Souji Okita

Toshizo gave Chizuru a 'Meow' when she presented it to him and began playing with it.
Chizuru, re-read the note once again and felt her face flush when she read the very first line.
"Okita-san saw my sleeping face, I must look horrible." She shook her head at that though and wiped her mouth with her sleeve.
"But then he called me cute! Is he teasing me again?"

Slapping both her cheeks at the realization of being teased once again, then looked at the feather that is now a toy and smiled.
He might be genuine about it after all..
