AN: I found my writers spirit again...and some horrible grammar and spelling mistakes in the chapters before which now have been corrected. I really hope I got them all.
And without any further comments: enjoy ^^
„Shatter"
Sasuke sighed, leaning his head back in annoyance. Very slowly he put the laptop away counting down from ten, stood from the couch and made his way to the kitchen, already knowing what awaited him.
Indeed, in front of the stove his dear brother sat in his wheelchair carefully leaning down to pick up the pot that had fallen from his still weak hands.
The look he gave his little brother from beneath his bangs was that of a puppy having done something worth spanking, while at the same time it held a spark of rebellion. Not that the brother he knew should ever have been capable of such a look.
Leaning his hand on his hip and impatiently tapping his right foot on the floor Sasuke felt just like an angry housewife waiting for an explanation for their husbands late homecoming.
But he had to admire his brothers stubbornness in trying to take care of himself…and failing often enough.
Judging from the appearance of the kitchen, open drawers and food laid upon the table, Itachi wanted to cook himself something. Unfortunately the pots were stored in the upper drawers and Itachi needed to stand up to reach them.
At least he didn't slip from his wheelchair again. Sasuke felt like having an heart attack every time this had happened and he did not wish to receive any more scolding from Tsunade and his uncle. Itachi was hardly ever scolded of course, even though it was his own fault for trying to stand on his own without Sasuke there to help.
Now that he thought about it, how the hell could it be that Itachi always manages to get out of bed and past him without making a sound? He had always been able to soundlessly sneak around the house before, but after the accident Sasuke thought he would have lost this ability. Apparently not.
"Care to indulge me in your line of thoughts this time?"
Sasuke drawled the words in a lazy-don't care voice, even if he was angry, knowing that it would piss his brother of. He may have lost his memory, but his mind was as sharp and calculative as ever while his emotional state was as unstable as never before, judging from his sudden emotional breakouts. And this made him a nearly perfect victim for Sasukes small revenge. It felt good being the one in control this time, but it also brought some troubles.
Itachi looked away, avoiding eye contact and shifting in his wheelchair nervously, feeling his younger brother stare down on him. This was also something the old Itachi would have never done.
Finally, he quietly muttered the sentence Sasuke had heard repeatedly the last two weeks.
"I was going to make supper."
Well, of course he had wanted to cook something. He was in the kitchen, holding a pot in his hand and it was already long past 7…he was fucking hungry. Apparently his little brother had no regular eating habits, thus making him wait hungry most of the time since he has been here. At least till Sasuke finally got hungry or till he tried getting himself feed and making Sasuke angry whenever he failed. Besides, Sasuke wasn't a very good cook.
He had hoped Madara would at least have someone cook for them, as he had mentioned the day he dropped them off, but it seems he forgot. And Itachi didn't dare to ask.
"Didn't I tell you to say something when you are hungry so I can cook for you."
It wasn't a questions and Sasukes voice sounded dangerously sweet.
Itachi bit his lip, trying to hold back a response uncalled for. It wasn't like he had not tried asking Sasuke to cook when he was hungry, but he only did so the first days. After he noticed how annoyed, even angry Sasuke got when he had to take care of him Itachi simply stopped asking too often.
He did not wish to bother his brother any more than necessary and would rather try doing things on his own. Sometimes he succeeded and sometimes he got caught, like now. Which unfortunately resulted in an even more annoyed and angry Sasuke.
Already having gotten used to Itachis new and quiet self Sasuke grabbed the pot from his brothers hand and proceeded to make supper.
"I am sorry to bother you, but you could at least try to get regular meals on the table for as long as I am here."
Sasuke turned his head watching his brother flee the room with a beet red face after having said something, in this case, bold to the person who took care of him.
The young Uchiha inwardly groaned. He had made his brother upset enough to have him talk back at him.
He knew it was his own fault. Itachi needed regular meals and he should be able to manage this without being reminded, but somehow it didn't work out. Not that he liked cooking in the first place, but cooking for his older brother was even worse.
He had believed that the thought of his brothers condition being his fault would be enough to keep him on his toes and make him care for Itachi like a mother hen for her chicks. But that wasn't the case and he needed to change something about it, and fast. Because it wasn't just the cooking.
Itachi needed help with nearly everything: washing, dressing, the toilet, going to his rehabilitation sessions, taking his medications. And his health could always get worse which didn't allow Sasuke to leave him alone, which meant he had to take him along any time he needed to go to the grocery or anywhere else.
Furthermore Itachi wouldn't be Itachi if he didn't get easily bored and boredom made him do dangerous things, as Sasuke had to notice.
Sasuke sighed, he needed help. It was just too much. Asking his uncle was out of the question. Itachis friends would be the best idea, but they were still in the states. They had wanted to visit in some weeks, till then he needed someone else.
Even if it would hurt his ego, he knew he had to ask Naruto and his friends. They had already offered to help him caring for Itachi, but he had declined.
He would be happier if Suigetsu, Karin and Juugo could help him, but they were as irresponsible as him and would not readily help out.
So asking Naruto was necessary, it wouldn't do endangering Itachis health anymore just because he couldn't jump over his shadow and care for his brother like brothers should do. He wasn't ready to forget the conflicts they had.
Now he only had to break the news to Itachi without setting his instable emotions into an uproar again. What a nuisance.
