A/N I apologize for the delay. I have no excuse except that my muse ran away and has only recently returned part time. Your comments and criticisms are payment for the muse, so if you leave payment in that form, you will be rewarded by the continuation of the story. Thank you for reading.
I grew up in the Jeffersonian lab amongst some of the most talented scientists in the world. I've been through more outstanding life events than any other child that I've ever met. I consider myself to be normal, regardless of that fact. My home life was never conventional, and I'm very certain that I wouldn't want that to be any other way. I have taken to my work easily and without complaint, and in the months that I've worked here, I can see how my mother can get so wrapped up in the job. Solving mysteries has always been a hobby of mine, and I was blessed with my mother's gift of concentration, even if my father thinks it's more of a burden. Don't get me wrong, hard work and determination are very important in his eyes. It's just when it interferes with his stomach that he questions it.
December 4th
Antonia focused on the slide beneath the microscope for several moments, allowing her eyes to scan over the sample carefully. The buzz coming from her lab coat pocket made her jump. She closed her eyes and sighed, pulling the glove from her hand as she grabbed the offending object and pressed the 'talk' button. "Yes?"
"No."
"Dad?"
"Mom."
"This isn't mom," Antonia grumbled, tired of her father's game.
"I thought we were playing some kind of word association game," he said quickly, continuing before she snapped back a comment. "Are you coming to dinner tonight?"
"I'm at the lab."
"I understand that, but are you coming to dinner?"
"Dad." Her voice was tinged with a grunt of irritation.
"Toni, its dinner, and we have a guest. Even your mother has left the lab for the day. You're the only one there."
"I'm not the only one here," she argued, looking up to see the security guard on the catwalk above her.
"Joe doesn't count. He's security," Booth said, knowing her argument. "Come home."
"Dad."
"See you in ten minutes."
"It takes me at least fifteen minutes to get home!"
"Then you should have already been on your way," Booth said playfully.
Antonia went to retort, but her father had quickly hung up, and she hadn't the chance. With a frustrated sigh, she threw the phone into the pocket of her lab coat, and made her way down the steps of the platform to get going.
The drive to her parent's house was quicker than Antonia had expected, and as the front door opened as soon as she closed her car door. "Workaholic."
"You know, dad, that's not an actual disease," she replied, passing her father in the doorway, she gave him a sly grin that resembled her mother's.
Booth glared after her and shook his head, closing the door behind them.
The moment Antonia stepped into the house, she was pulled into the mayhem that was her family. She was literally sideswiped by one of her nephews as he came bounding down the stairs. "Nate?" She called, seeing his brother running after down the steps and around her back. He clung to his Aunt's leg and looked toward the stairs. "Luke, what's going on?" She looked up at Booth. "Is this the company you were referring to?"
"No, they're…" Booth started, and the doorbell rang through the house.
"Door!" both boys shouted at the same time.
"Thank you," Booth said, rolling his eyes. He walked toward the door and turned the handle. He smiled at the guest. "Fitz, you made it." Booth smiled. He held out his hand to the young agent and shook it as he pulled him inside. "Come on in. You've met my daughter Toni."
Suddenly, the sound of growling came from the stairs, and a tall person with a blanket over their head came running down the stairs. The two little boys behind Antonia screeched and ran toward the kitchen, followed by the covered person.
"The two screechers are my grandsons, Luke and Nathaniel."
"And I've never met the idiot that is chasing them." Antonia said, her face blushing slightly.
The door to the kitchen opened, and a curly haired man stepped out laughing and catching his breath, the blanket wrapped around his shoulders, with two giggling boys under each arm. "Hey."
"Fitz, this is JV. You met Hodgins and Angela this afternoon, this is their boy. JV, this is Aiden Fitzgerald."
Aiden smiled a bit nervously. JV swung one of the boys up onto his shoulder and held out a hand. "They let you have another guinea pig?" he asked Booth, smiling through his glare. "It's nice to meet you."
"So far I've been called a puppy and a guinea pig." Aiden joked with a nod.
"Term of endearment, I assure you," JV said, swinging the boys back to their feet. "I should get going."
"You're not staying for dinner?" Temperance asked, stepping in from the kitchen.
"Just dropped these two off for Parker since the hospital is close to their daycare. He said he'll be by to pick them up late. I have to get back to work for a few hours."
"That's three workaholics." Booth muttered.
Antonia rolled her eyes and walked toward her mother. Dropped a kiss on her cheek and disappeared into the kitchen.
"I'm not a workaholic, Uncle B. I'm a well-trained, over utilized, underappreciated, under paid, anesthesiologist with no time for free time." JV smiled. "It was nice to meet you." He said, giving an exaggerated bow as he waved to his second family. "Enjoy your dinner."
Booth and Temperance said their goodbyes and Nate and Luke waved and ran into the kitchen after their Auntie Toni.
JV walked out of the door, and Temperance and Booth began to talk to Aiden. It wasn't but a minute, before they heard a yelp outside. Exchanging glances, Booth opened the door to see JV spinning in a circle, his youngest daughter gripping him tightly as she laughed uproariously from his shoulder.
"Let go of me, you big dummy!" Grace laughed.
"Let go?" He asked, spinning around to face a snow bank alongside the driveway.
"Don't you dare!" Grace shouted.
"You break it, you bought it!" Booth said from the doorway.
JV let out a laugh, and carefully helped Grace to her feet. She nearly slipped, but he held her steady. Her cheeks were flushed from the cold and laughter, and her hair was down around her shoulders. "Get out of here, go back to work." She said, giving him a shove with a laugh. She looked up at the porch. "Hey, Daddy." She climbed the steps and dropped a kiss on his cheek.
"Dinner is ready."
"Awesome."
JV watched until they disappeared into the house, before heading to his car once again.
The moment Grace stepped into the house, Aiden recognized her from earlier in the day. She looked different with her civilian clothes, and her hair down, but the resemblance to her mother was clear. "We didn't get a chance to meet earlier," she smiled politely. "I'm Grace."
"Special Agent Aiden Fitzgerald," he said quickly, watching her smile light up her eyes. She shook his hand firmly.
"I apologize for not introducing myself earlier."
"That's fine, you were on duty."
"Yeah, that's me… out on the streets, fighting crime."
"Directing traffic, helping little old ladies across the street." Antonia mumbled from the kitchen doorway. "Table is set." She smiled at her sister's glare.
"Alright!" Booth said happily. "Let's eat!"
