So it's been way too long since updating the story and I'm sorry. I've been pretty busy lately but I'm trying to get back on track.
I'm putting this information here for anyone that's confused on the ages and dates because I was while I reread it a few minutes ago.
Chapter 22 (Lucius dying) happened in November 1986. Harry and Draco were still 6.
The beginning of Chapter 25 (when Draco had a talk with Mrs. Greene) happened in February 1987. He was still 6. The end of chapter 25 (Remus and Narcissa kissed) happened a little over 2 years after Lucius' death around March 1988. Draco is 7 and will be 8 in June. Ron is 8 and Harry is 7. Hermione's 8. I'll be fast forwarding things a bit so we can get the kids to Hogwarts!
Also! I made a few changes in some of the chapters starting with Chapter 22.
Draco Malfoy woke up with a grin. Today was the day that he has been waiting for. He was finally eleven years old! He would soon be off to Hogwarts with his best friends and have the time of his life.
Draco got up out of bed and went to the calendar to make sure that it was indeed June 5th.
Everyone in the mansion could hear a scream coming from his room. Everyone stopped what they were doing and ran up to the room. Sirius dramatically kicked the door down in fear of an intruder being in there.
Draco started laughing at the confused looks on their faces. "I'm eleven!" He yelled and ran out the door and down the hallway.
The adults all laughed and went back to what they were doing.
Draco stopped in front of Harry's room and banged open the door and screamed, "Harry! Today's the day!"
Harry was still in bed and moaned. He sat up and threw a pillow at his friend and laid back down.
"I know, you nut!" Harry laughed. "You've been counting down the day for weeks! You just did this yesterday! Woke me up at six in the morning to tell me that tomorrow was your birthday. Thank you for at least waiting until 6:30 to wake me up today."
"You're bloody lucky I didn't wake you up at midnight you git." Draco laughed and walked to the bed and stole his blanket. "Get up!"
"Hand me my pillow." Harry demanded.
"No, why?" Draco asked. "You're not going back to sleep."
"I just want to hit you with it again." Harry said and got out of bed. He nonchalantly walked to the pillow and picked it up to throw it at his friend.
"You arse." Draco said.
"What was that? I didn't hear you." Harry asked playfully.
"I called you an arse you git." Draco said and threw the pillow back at him.
"Do you kiss your Mum with that mouth? Maybe I should go ask her." Harry said and started walking to the door.
Draco started laughing nervously and pulled Harry back. If his Mum ever heard him swear, he was sure to be a goner.
"Happy Birthday Draco." Harry said and gave Draco a hug.
"Thank you Harold." Draco said.
"Ugh, you know I hate being called that." Harry groaned.
"Oh! I'm sorry, Harold." Draco whispered in his ear.
"That's it!" Harry stopped the hug and walked to the door. "I bet I can find your Mum and tell her about how dirty your mouth is faster than you can get down the stairs!"
Harry ran out the room and down the steps. Draco ran faster than he could so Harry tried as hard as he could. He ran into Sirius in the kitchen and fell back.
"What's going on, Harry?" Sirius asked.
"Nothing." Harry said with his sweetest smile. "Where's Aunt Cissy?"
"She's outside talking to Remus. Draco just went out there." Sirius answered and helped Harry off the floor.
"WHAT!?" Harry yelled which made Sirius jump and ran out the door.
Harry ran outside to see Narcissa and Remus sitting in the chairs under a nearby tree. Draco was hugging his Mum and Remus was pat him on the back.
Harry rolled his eyes and slowly walked over to the three.
"Good morning, Harry." Remus said.
"Good morning, Uncle Moony." Harry said. "Same to you, Aunt Bella."
"Good morning to you too, Harry. We were just wishing Draco a Happy Birthday." Narcissa said and smiled at her son. "I can't believe you lot will be off to Hogwarts this year."
"If Draco even makes it to September. He woke me up at 6:30." Harry laughed and took a seat next to his uncle. "You wait until it's my birthday. You're going to regret waking up Harry James Potter."
"You don't scare me, Potter." Draco said.
"You should be. No one messes with my sleep. Birthdays are my favorite because it's a day that we can all stay home from school." Harry said. "That means sleeping in!"
Everyone laughed and Sirius brought out breakfast and set it on the table in front of Draco.
"While you were all messing around, I worked my arse off in the kitchen making Draco's favorite for breakfast." Sirius complained and sat down.
"Language, Sirius." Narcissa said.
"Oh please. I'm sure they swear all the time up there in their rooms." Sirius said.
Harry gave a pointed look at Draco which Sirius didn't miss.
"Narcissa and I cook almost every day." Remus said. "Draco likes your pancakes most for some unknown reason. Which is why you offered to cook this morning."
"He makes them the sweetest." Draco said with a smile. "Thank you, Uncle Sirius."
"No problem, kid. Happy Birthday." Sirius smiled. "Dig in."
Everyone ate happily under the tree and talked about the party they were having later on. The Weasley's and Grangers were obviously going to be there. Severus would be coming a little later because of the classes that he had to teach at Hogwarts. Draco was sad that Fred and George wouldn't be there but he knew that they wanted to be. They were too busy finishing off their second year of Hogwarts to come.
After breakfast, the adults told Harry and Draco to either stay upstairs or outside in the yard for a little while to set up. They happily chose to go outside with their brooms which meant that they didn't need to help clean up. The Weasley's came to the mansion just after breakfast to help decorate.
Molly sent Ron and Ginny outside to play with Harry and Draco. Soon enough, a two on two game of Quidditch was happening out in the yard. It was Ron and Harry against Draco and Ginny. Ron and Draco were the keepers while Ginny and Harry were the chasers.
The teams were neck and neck with points when Narcissa came out to call them all inside.
"Aww! One more goal Aunt Cissy?" Ginny asked.
"I guess that's alright." Narcissa smiled and called out the other adults to watch. Soon enough they were all cheering on both teams who seemed to drag on the last goal.
Harry and Ginny were both the same speed and strength so they seemed to get the quaffle stolen by each other as soon as it was in their hands. Soon enough, Ginny had the quaffle and she faked left and flew right and threw it past Ron for the win. Draco cheered and flew on the ground next to Ginny and gave her a hug, which resulted in a blush from Ginny.
After they separated, they all ran in the house to the sound of the doorbell being rang. Narcissa had Draco open the door and greet the Grangers.
"Happy Birthday, Draco!" Hermione said as soon as Draco opened the door.
Hermione walked up to Draco and gave him a quick hug which resulted in a blush from Draco and a face of jealousy from Ginny and Ron.
"Happy Birthday, Draco." Jean and Steven said.
"Thank you very much and thanks for coming." Draco smiled.
A noise from the fireplace made Draco run up to the visitor in surprise.
"Severus!" Draco said and hugged his Godfather. "I thought you would be late!"
"I talked Dumbledore into letting the classes end early today." Severus smiled. "I didn't want to miss anything. Happy Birthday Draco."
"Thank you!" Draco said. "Soon enough I'll be a student in your class and I'll be able to see you every day!"
"Oh joy!" Severus joked.
After Draco was done welcoming and thanking his guests, he finally noticed the decorations.
"Wow! Slytherin decorations." Draco said in awe of the green and silver all around the mansion. "I love it! Thanks guys!"
"So you still want to be in Slytherin? I figured you would have changed houses by now." Severus said.
"Yes. My Dad was in Slytherin and so was Mum. It feels right. There are good Slytherins, like you." Draco said.
Severus smiled and stayed quiet. He wished he could have stayed good throughout his life at Hogwarts.
Everyone sat down in the decorated dining room for an early dinner. Starry and Dobby appeared in the room to help them serve the food but Draco told them that they had the day off. He offered for them to stay for his birthday party but he insisted that they didn't have to. The invitation made both Starry and Dobby cry for about five minutes before accepting the offer to stay.
The adults asked Draco what he wanted to eat at his party and they offered a number of fancy dishes. He chose the most non-fancy dish he could think of- chicken and chips with a salad.
"Can I open presents while we eat so we can all play Quidditch outside before it gets dark?" Draco asked.
"That is fine with me." Narcissa answered and motioned for Remus to help her bring in the gifts.
They sat the big pile of gifts on the floor next to Draco's seat. He picked up a big green gift and was about to open it when he was stopped by Harry.
"Open mine first." Harry insisted.
Draco rolled his eyes and smiled but grabbed the gift with the label that read, 'From Harry'. There was a card with the gift but of course he opened the gift first, as all kids do.
He opened the box and gently picked up a small statue that was moving. The statue was a lion with a snake loosely wrapped around the neck. The lion's head moved around while the snake slithered around it's head. Draco smiled at Harry and carefully put it down onto the table and opened the card.
"Read it out loud." Harry said
"Happy Birthday to one of my best friends in the world. I know this is the year that we will be both heading to Hogwarts and we will be apart more than we have been in a long time. You'll be in Slytherin and I'll be in Gryffindor. Although Slytherin and Gryffindor are known to be rivals, I want you to know that you will always be my best friend. I'll always be there for you and I'm sure you will be for me as well. We've lived together for quite some time and we've been living like brothers rather than friends so I wanted to make it official. There's a secret chamber in the statue and to find it, push the hidden button on the lion's heart. Love always, Harry James Potter."
Draco smiled at Harry and found the button on the lion and pressed it. Out of the bottom of the statue came a piece of rolled up paper. On the paper was an official 'Ministry of Magic' seal. The paper read, 'I hearby announce Draco Lucius Malfoy to be the official brother of Harry James Potter for the rest of their lives.' It was signed by Cornelius Fudge, Minister of Magic. It was also signed by Narcissa as she's the parent of Draco and by Sirius since he's the guardian of Harry.
Draco looked up with small tears in his eyes that he quickly tried to hide. "Thank you, Harry."
"You're welcome, brother. I had help from Remus writing it. Now you can never get rid of me. Even if you ever want to end our friendship." Harry smiled.
"Why would I ever want to do that." Draco smiled back.
Draco continued opening up his presents after everyone got a look at the statue and read the card. He got a new broom from Sirius, some fudge from Molly and Arthur, a book of the history of the Slytherin house from Hermione, a book on teeth hygiene from Hermione's parents, a snake necklace from Narcissa, a rare set of Slytherin chess and potions from Severus, a pair of green and silver socks with a snake from Dobby and Starry, some chocolate frogs from Ron and a card from Ginny. He even got a pass from Florean Fortescue's Ice Cream Parlour from Remus. While at Hogwarts, all Draco had to do to get a free ice cream was rub the pass and whatever flavor he wanted appeared in front of him.
"Thank you all so much." Draco said with as much love as he could.
"Wait, I forgot about this." Severus said. "Fred and George asked me to give this to you. They told me to tell you that they made it themselves."
Draco opened the paper to find a book called, 'Best Pranks for a First Year Slytherin'.
Draco laughed and showed the book to Harry but purposely hid it from the adults in the room.
"I also have one more but it's not from me." Narcissa said and handed Draco a box.
He opened the box and started crying as soon as he saw what was inside. It was a silver and green Slytherin watch.
"This was Dad's." Draco said.
"He got it when he turned eleven. He got it from your grandfather, Abraxas, who also got it when he turned eleven from his father. Your Dad was very excited to give this to you." Narcissa said with tears in her eyes.
Draco got up and ran to his Mum and gave her a hug and started crying in her shoulder.
"He loved you so much, Draco." Narcissa said as she rubbed her son's back.
"I miss him." Draco said.
They stayed like that for a few minutes and then he went back to his seat and rubbed his eyes.
"Thank you all very much." Draco said. "Who's ready for Quidditch?"
They all cleared the table and headed out for a fun game of Quidditch. As Draco spent the rest of the night with his friends and family, he couldn't help but feel like the luckiest eleven year old around. It was one of his favorite birthdays he's ever had.
