Chapter 3
Lucy's POV
As everyone was cleaning up at the Guild Hall, I looked on towards Natsu, who was staring after The Master and Luna, as they disappeared into The Master's office. There was a tense aura around him, as he clenched his fists. I shook my head. Why is he being like this? Is he having a bad day? I shook my head again. No, that can't be it. Even if he did have a bad day, he wouldn't pick a fight with someone new to the guild, not to mention someone younger than him. I slowly walked up towards Natsu.
"Natsu... what's wrong with you?"
He looked sideways towards me. I shivered. That look in his eyes reminded me of all those times when we were faced with a tough opponent. Those dangerous, guarded eyes.
"There is nothing wrong with me, Lucy."
I blinked. "Then why did you attack Luna like that? She wasn't an enemy Natsu! Plus, now she's nakama!"
He turned sharply towards me. I swear, even the temperature rose a degree or two around him.
"Nakama?! She'll never even get close to being part of this family! Yea, she just joined, but that doesn't give her the all access pass!" He sighed. "I don't trust her at all." He relaxed a bit. "Plus... she doesn't even smell right."
I blinked a few times. One minute he's fuming, the next he's unsure and a little worried. Geez, if this keeps up, I'm going to get whiplash just by watching him. But then again, his dragon powered nose, never lies. I tilted my head to the side a bit confused. To me, Luna seemed just like any other normal girl.
"Uh, Natsu... she's just a young girl. A little older then Wendy, but still she's young. She seemed human to me."
He sighed in defeat. "Did you see her when she dodged my attack? It was like she transformed... and here I thought that only Dragon Slayers could do that."
I stared at him, as I remembered his fight with Luna. I recalled when Natsu did his famous Dragon Roar at her... and all she did was shake her head at him, and waved the fire away with her hand. Like it was child's play. Heck, she didn't even use any magic to diffuse the fire. I didn't even feel any power from her at all. Well, not until she dodged his fist. At that moment, I remember feeling a huge amount of magic, explode. A second later, Luna was transformed, staring Natsu down.
I sighed and shook my head. "Okay, so she's got some power that we haven't seen before, so what?"
"He's just worried that his stupid flames are outmatched... for once."
I looked behind me as Gray, Erza, Levy, Gajeel and even Lilly, accompanied by Carla and Happy, slowly walked up towards us.
Natsu sharply looked at Gray. "What do you mean outmatched?! I would have wiped the floor with her!" The temperature spiked around him.
Gray scoffed. "Yeah right. Did that stupid flame brain of yours, forget that magic power coming from her?" He shook his head. "You had no chance, man."
Natsu stomped towards Gray. "You wanna go, popsicle pervert!?"
Gray smirked. "About damn time! Let's go!"
As those two bakas were at it, Levy and Erza approached me.
"I swear... they can be such a nuisance."
I looked up towards Erza who sighed but just looked on.
"You're not gonna stop them?"
She shook her head. "No. Natsu hasn't fought anyone since that mission you two went on. In fact, it seemed that something was really bothering him. He seemed on edge for a while now. If this is his way of letting go of some steam. Then so be it. I'll let this go... just this once."
I sweat-dropped as I looked from her, to the brawl going on between fire and ice. It seemed that Natsu was really letting go off some steam, as he lunged one powerful attack after another towards Gray, who only grew tougher the more serious Natsu got.
I looked towards Gajeel, who was frowning at the closed door of the Guild's Office, completely ignoring the fight in front of him, like something troubled him. Even Levy picked up on his changed mood.
"Gajeel? You alright?" Levy asked as she looked up at him with concern.
He scowled even more. "Something doesn't feel right. Why would The Master let someone like her, in here in the first place?"
That caught Natsu's attention, as he stopped his attack midway through, and approached us. "I knew it. I'm not the only one who knew that something wasn't right!"
Gajeel sighed. "I sensed it after she released that crazy magic. I still wouldn't lose all sense and attack her like that. She's a young girl after all, you flame brain."
Just right before Natsu retorted some stupid insult back, Levy interrupted.
"But what do you mean Gajeel? Yea she's pretty powerful, but she's just a normal girl..."
I nodded towards her. "That's exactly what I said to Natsu."
Even Erza stared at the closed office doors, with slanted eyes, but stayed silent.
Gajeel shook his head. "It's the way she smells, that and the fact I got bad vibes from her the moment I felt her magic. Call it super Dragon Senses."
I looked back towards Natsu, who had his fists clenched, his head tilted down to hide his eyes behind his hair. All I saw was a shadow covering his eyes. What he said next, took me seriously off guard.
"I'm going to have a rematch with her. And when I do... I will kill her."
Natsu's POV
"Something doesn't feel right. Why would The Master let someone like her, in here in the first place?"
I froze mid-air, right before I attacked that ice prick with my fist. I wasn't the only one that thought she was dangerous. And here I thought I was going crazy.
I walked towards them as I diffused the fire on my fist, to smoke. "I knew it. I'm not the only one who knew that something wasn't right!"
The iron idiot shook his head and sighed.
"I sensed it after she released that crazy magic. I still wouldn't lose all sense and attack her like that. She's a young girl after all, you flame brain." He didn't bother to look at me, he just kept looking ahead.
Now that pissed me off. If you're going to insult someone, you should at least look at them! First that new girl playing me off like some child, and now this idiot!? Oh hell no!
I was about to punch that steel idiot in the face, when Levy spoke up.
"But what do you mean Gajeel? Yea she's pretty powerful, but she's just a normal girl..."
I froze. Oh c'mon Levy, not you too! How can they be so blind? Yea, she appears normal... but I guess I have that dream to thank. If it weren't for those stupid dreams invading my head, I would have welcomed that girl to the Guild with open arms.
I looked down towards the ground... I have to stop the dream from coming true. Since she's here, it's only a matter of time before... before I hurt Lucy. Or worse... Damn it! Why does it have to be like this!? If I just avoided her as long as I possible, then none of this crap would have happened... then again, nothing could change the fact that she's here. I have to stop that stupid dream from coming true. If I just... just... get rid of her then Lucy won't get hurt by my hands... But I can't just get rid of her like that. She's strong. Too strong. She has similar abilities to mine. She can change her form just like I can with my Dragon Force. And yet she's different from me. Plus she...
"It's the way she smells, that and the fact I got bad vibes from her the moment I felt her magic. Call it super Dragon Senses."
Gajeel's voice hit my like a lightning bolt. I knew that chick was bad news. Even a fellow Dragon Slayer sensed that something wasn't right. I sneaked a peak towards Erza, but kept my head down. Even though she had her poker face on, her eyes told the truth. She's suspicious, not to mention a little pissed. I looked back down to the ground trying to steady my anger... Why would Gramps protect the new girl like that? He of all people should have sensed that she's bad news! But noo he just had to let her join Fairy Tail. Why!? He's only helping that stupid dream come true... I can't let that happen. No matter what.
"I'm going to have a rematch with her. And when I do... I will kill her."
A moment of silence passed, when suddenly everybody started yelling at me, even though my head was down.
"Are you insane!? You can't just kill her like that! Has your brain finally melted into ash!? What's wrong with you?"
"Are you stupid Salamander!? You can't just go around killing people!"
"You can't do that! You'll go to jail for life!"
"I absolutely forbid this! Do you want a life sentence!?"
One after the other, they kept yelling at me. But all were the same. No. Honestly, I couldn't care less about what they thought. They weren't the ones that had Lucy's life in their hands.
Suddenly, Lucy came up to me and placed her delicate hand on my shoulder. It took everything I had, to not burn her right there.
"Natsu... please talk to me. This isn't like you. The Natsu that I know and... and... look, the Natsu that's my best friend, would totally be against killing someone. He would value all life... no matter how dangerous they are."
I kept my head down. She has no idea how many sparks of warmth her hand shot threw my body. I wanted her to be close to me. I wanted her more than anything. But I can't. Not when I know that if I lose control just for a second... I would hurt her.
At that moment, I felt tears starting to threaten to spill. Crap. I needed to leave.
"Lucy... let go." I didn't bother looking up to see her reaction. I need to leave, now.
As I turned away from everyone, Happy flew to my side.
"Nassu... Where are you going?"
I breathed in and out to steady my voice. "To the mountains. I have some serious training to do."
"I'm going with you, Nassu."
I shook my head. "No, Happy. I need to be alone for a while..." So I wouldn't burn you on purpose. At least I didn't say that last part out loud. If I had... it'll just make things worse.
I took a few steps, before Happy spoke again.
"But Nassu-"
"Stay here with Lucy and everyone. Make sure they are safe."
"Aye... sir."
Hearing how sad Happy was, it took every bit of self-control that I had to bolt away from there, and away from the whole lot of them... especially her. Heading nowhere in particular, I felt tears flowing from my eyes, as I felt everyone watching me disappear into the distance.
Wendy's POV
I watched as Natsu ran away from everyone... Um... what just happened? Why did he run away? Without Happy? What's going on? I got the gist of what happened, by watching them from a far. Natsu challenged the new girl, but it turned out that she was too powerful, even for Natsu to handle. At least that's what it looked like to me. I did feel her power when she released it... but why is he running away? I know that my Dragon Sense of smell, isn't fully developed like the other dragon slayers, but that doesn't mean I haven't felt anything. She may be powerful, but there is something about her that I can't put my finger on... she seems so familiar. Have I met her before? I shook my head as I looked at everyone else. Everyone had surprised blank expressions. I looked towards Lucy. She was crying.
"Lucy... are you ok?" I asked, as I walked up towards her.
She kept looking ahead to where Natsu disappeared from sight.
"I... I just don't understand. Why is he being like this? Was it something I said?"
Before I could say anything, Levy spoke up.
"I think he just needs to be alone right now, Luce. He's probably confused, and needs some time alone."
Gajeel shook his head. "Talk about an understatement. I don't even want to know what's going on in that Salamander's head."
"C'mon everyone let's just get back to work..." Erza's stomach grumbled and she blushed. "... After we eat. Then we all go on missions."
Gray nodded. "Agreed. After all of that, I could really use a bite."
Everybody headed towards Mira, who was behind the bar, leaving me, Lucy, Happy and Carla behind.
"Lucy... you sure you're okay?"
She closed her eyes and sighed. "Yea... I'll be fine."
Lucy headed towards the exit of the Guild.
"You're not hungry?"
Lucy stopped walking and shook her head, and turned around slightly with a small smile. "I'm fine Wendy. You go ahead and eat. I'll be home if you need me."
Just when Lucy left, Happy spoke up. "Lucy, wait!" He turned to Carla. "I'll see you later Carla, I have to protect Lucy!"
As Happy flew away, Carla spoke up. "I swear, he's just as hard-headed as Natsu."
I looked down towards her. "Well Carla, he is always with Natsu, so it does makes sense."
She shook her head. "That's not what I meant, child."
I fumed. "I'm not a child, Carla! Stop calling me that!"
She shook her head and sighed. "What I meant is that, they both have a narrow vision to everything around them. Happy knows that he has to protect Lucy, but he doesn't know why, and he doesn't care to find out. And Natsu thinks that he can solve some ridiculous problem with violence, and doesn't care to try to find another option."
I looked at her in surprise. "Wait, you know what's going on, Carla?"
Even Carla looked a little puzzled. "Not exactly. I did have a vision of the new girl. In my vision a couple of nights ago, I saw her squaring off with Natsu. Natsu running. And Lucy crying. At that time, I didn't think much of it. Honestly, it looked like they both had a fight of some kind. So I just ignored it. But what's really puzzling, is the fact that, my visions usually warn me of something bad is going to happen. But why it showed me this particular event... that is what's bothering me."
I looked at Carla, a little confused. "But did you see anything else?"
Carla shook her head. "Not for now."
At that moment, the doors to The Master's office opened, and out came The Master himself, followed by that new girl. I kept my gaze at her, and noticed that I wasn't the only one staring at her. Practically, almost everyone in the Guild was watching her. Some were just curious, and some were a little frightened. But the most dreadful looks came from Erza, Gajeel and company.
I shook my head. This isn't how the Guild works. We don't treat each other like this. We don't treat anyone who is different from us, as outcasts. We are Fairy Tail. We treat each other like family. At least... that's what I learned by being a part of this Guild. I haven't been a member for very long, and yet I know this is wrong.
I looked up towards the girl, who was actually just a little taller than me, and noticed that she was just standing there, fidgeting. She looked uncomfortable, like she didn't know what to do. Who could blame her? Especially since, she's been stared at like this. And who knows what they talked about in that office.
I shook my head in annoyance, and approached her with a smile on my face.
"Hi. You must be new here. I'm Wendy." I stuck out my hand still smiling at her, as she gratefully smiled back at me, and shook my hand firmly.
"Hi Wendy. I'm Luna." Even her voice seemed sad.
"Hey, I have an idea. Have you seen Magnolia yet?"
Luna blinked a few times and answered. "No. I haven't."
I smiled widely at her. "That's great! Because now I get to show you around, and maybe even show you to the girl's dorm. C'mon let's go!"
Without a second to waste, I took her by the arm, and pulled her away towards the town, and away from ever growing stares.
