Guilt Trip

Kagome managed to avoid Gohan one class ended and headed straight home. She didn't have to babysit Trunks that day, and she figured she would get a head start on her homework. She was still behind in Math and Science and would need the extra study time.

She walked into the apartment to see Yamcha and Paur perched on the couch. They were watching some news report about sports.

"Kagome, how did school go today," Paur inquired as he and Yamacha turned to face the teen.

She shrugged her shoulders and grabbed a piece of fruit from the kitchen. "It wasn't too bad. Made a new friend. And I even struck someone out in gym."

Yamcha grinned proudly, and jumped over the couch to wrap an arm around her shoulders. "That's my girl."

Kagome flushed in embarrassment from the sudden praise and took a bite out of her apple.

"By the way, how was Gohan doing," Yamcha asked, looking down at the teen fondly.

Kagome swallowed the piece of apple and nervously repeated, "Gohan?"

"He's a good kid," he replied. "He's been through a lot. And I hear he's having a bit of a rough time fitting in."

"Really," Kagome murmured.

Yamcha nodded his head. "Yeah, well you know he's not exactly normal. This is his first time being around kids his own age."

She felt her stomach drop as guilt started to settle in. He didn't seem to notice her reaction and continued on. "I'm glad he has you now."

Kagome was floored at his sudden statement and immediately asked, "Why do you say that?"

"Well, you now he's different," he started, rubbing the back of his head awkwardly as he searched for the right words to say. "And well, it must be nice for him not to have to hide who he is since you already know."

"R-right," she stuttered, feeling like such a jerk.
