The ExFiles – SGA Fic – Chapter 8- Only half the truth

Evan looked at her and waited for her to return to reality. She seemed to have drifted off into her thoughts. "where have you been?" he asks when he was sure she was back with him.

"I remembered how we met. It really was your fault. You brought back that memory!" Nancy replied with a fake pout.

He laughed and checked the room. After he was sure no one was near or could hear the next part of the conversation he sighed and started:

So, you asked me about why I am not really willing to date." He offered up and looked her directly in the eye.

"Yeah, I kind of guessed when you stopped yourself on the bridge. She was at your side when we picked you up; you seemed so close and you mentioned something at the wedding. She brought me to my room. "

No answer, just a small nod and hanging shoulders and Nancy knew she was right. "So, you are happy?" again only nodding. "Come on Ev, you can tell me more. I am not here to check up on the military and I certainly won't tell on you."

He finally looked up again. "Okay, here it goes. It is all new and we wanted to see how it goes and not tell everyone on Atlantis yet. It is not really proper anyway since Sheppard put her on my team for the near future."

"Oh, I see, maybe I can be of help and change that?" "No, please don't interfere with my work if it isn't absolutely necessary. I am hoping to sort this out on my own. Sheppard isn't all that much into regulations and Colonel Carter knows how it is, so there is a chance. I will get to it if this turns into something more."

"Okay, I won't step in," Nancy replied but also made a mental note to read up on the regulations and try to suss out what Colonel Carter and John thought of two of the military in a relationship.

After that the two of them fell into a comfortable conversation, trading stories and Nancy got a pretty colourful picture of what to expect in the city. But still she sort of dreaded the arrival and her first meeting with John.

Nancy contemplated telling Evan about her relation to John but in the end, decided against it. She didn't want to put that on him. She needed to talk to John first.
