"Isn't Camellia great," Yamcha remarked as he stared lovingly into the blonde's grey eyes.
Kagome could have gagged. Instead she poked at her food and sarcastically replied, "Totally."
"She's also a teacher. In fact, she's starting at Orange Star this week," he continued, her sarcasm going completely over his head.
Camellia briefly met Kagome's gaze and grinned. "I'm excited to start. I will be taking over for the high school History teacher."
Kagome's brow furrowed in confusion, she had no idea that they were getting a new teacher. She was about to ask her about it when she saw that she was back to staring at Yamcha. Sighing, she pulled out her cell phone and was surprised to see a message from Shippo. He wanted to meet up later that week. At least her whole day was not a total let down.
Thankfully she didn't have to sit through lunch much longer when her cell phone rang. It was her mom and she quickly excused herself to take the phone call outside. After a quick conversation that everything was fine (she had a feeling her mom didn't buy it though), she hung up and texted Yamcha. She made an excuse that she was feeling sick and would be heading home. After sending it, she turned off her phone.
Instead of heading to the apartment though, she ventured towards the closest park. She quickly found the perfect spot under a secluded large tree. It may not have been the same as the Goshinboku, but she still found it comforting.
Sighing, she reached under her shirt's neckline and pulled out a heart-shaped, gold locket. She had gotten it back from Shippo, and she couldn't help but wear it. She was hoping to spend the day distracted from the past.
Gently, she opened the locket and found herself looking into InuYasha's angry face. Despite the heartbreak she was feeling, she smiled at seeing his familiar face. She'd give anything to see him one last time.
