The ExFiles -SGA- Chapter 9 – Welcome to Atlantis

Then it was finally there, the moment Nancy had waited for with impatience and dread. Colonel Caldwell has asked her to the bridge for the final approach of Atlantis.

"It is even more breath-taking then I imagined." She offered and Caldwell nodded knowingly. "Yes, they have it really nice here. In a couple of moments we will dock and unload all the supplies. Colonel Carter will meet you and show you around."

Nancy went back to her quarters to pack up the last of her things. Evan had told her that he would beam down to check the last of the security plans for her visit. They hadn't talked about if he would tell anyone about their relationship but she figured it would come out in a short while anyway so she will be up front with it.

In the city Evan had dropped of his stuff in his quarters and was on his way to meet Colonel Sheppard to get a short briefing on the visit when he ran into Colonel Carter. "Major, did you enjoy your trip here?" she asked with a smile around her lips. He was confused but answered anyway "It was nice and surprising at once." When the Colonel only nodded knowingly Evan said that he had to hurry to get to the security briefing with Sheppard and was on his way.

In the briefing Sheppard rattled of all the reasons he thought this IOA visit was stupid and then asked him to tell them something about the Director. Evan was at a loss. So he decided to be open about who Nancy is to him.

"Colonel, Director Harrison is married to my brother, so I only have good things to say about her. I have known her for a while." John was a little confused. "Why didn't you say so before you left for earth? Or didn't you know?" "How should I've known that the new Director would be my brother's wife? When the visit was announced, they weren't married yet and hello Harrison is not really a rare name in the states!" Evan replied defensively.

After that the two got back to security and planned the next couple of weeks of shifts too.

They were supposed to meet with Nancy and Colonel Carter for dinner. John was not really looking forward to that but he guessed that since Rodney was there also there would be something to laugh any way.

So when John made his way to the mess hall to meet the group he was smiling and thinking of ways to annoy MacKay. He already heard laughing drift into the corridor.

Inside the mess hall Nancy had already won over MacKay after telling him that if he could answer a couple of her questions to some of the projects that have had their budget cut in recent times she would restore the funding. So he now was telling tales of their adventures. Nancy's back was to the door so she didn't see him enter: "MacKay that's not exactly how I remember it. You were doing something stupid and I rescued your ass and then accidentally shot you!" John announced his presence.

Sam didn't say a word when Nancy turned around and John froze in place. Evan also was stunned to silence when Nancy started:

"Hi John. It's been a while." No one said a word even MacKay was speechless. They waited for Sheppard to say something. "So you got married." Were his only words before he turned and left. He needed some time to figure out what just had happened.

MacKay was the first to speak after Sheppard had left: "Can we eat now? If he isn't hungry its his loss."

In Evans head the dots slowly connected but he didn't want to out Nancy in front of MacKay so he stayed silent but made a note to ask her about his suspicions later when they were alone.

Nancy put the uneasy moment to an end and just turned the conversation over to the plans for here visit. Since Sam knew about the crazy family reunion from O'Neill she followed the lead and explained that they would stay here for a while and Nancy would have the chance to get started has her shadow. Beeing present for mission briefings and debriefings and starting in week two she would get the chance to shadow MacKay and his scientiests. Learning everything about the different projects. After that it was planned that Nancy would get the chance to go off world with the teams of her choosing and also that week is planned to be the start of her staff interviews. The interviews are going to be interesting. Hopefully I can talk to John privately and calm him down.

After desert MacKay scurried off to his lab to check on some important test he was running currently. That gave Colonel Carter a chance to openly say that she already knew about the relation between Evan and Nancy. "I'll leave you two to talk now. Good Night."

Evan got up to salute and then sat back down, finally able to ask the question he had been mulling over since his CO had left the room: "Sheppard, your last name… how are you related to my CO?" Nancy groaned innerly. She had wished to talk to John first but she told Evan anyway.

"John was my husband a long time ago. We didn't really part ways on a happy note as you know and I am guessing he was just shocked to see me here. I was shocked to find out about his and your work too. I can understand." "Oh, wow. So my CO was the reason I met you? Kind of scary and we should never tell him that story. Just so you know I already told him that you married my brother. So that we know each other is no secret." "I understand. I just hope I can talk to him calmly. From what I have heard his opinion counts for a lot here and if he works against me I will have a hard time."

"I don't think he will let his personal feelings get in the way." Evan tries to defend his CO.

"I know, Ev. I just, I don't know . We will see. Can you bring me to my room? I am tired and tomorrow will be an early morning with me being at the mission briefing for Team 1 and all."

They walked in silence until they reached her door and said goodnight.

What will the next day bring? I really need to talk to John before he leaves for his mission.
