Here goes nothing... after a year I am hoping to really get to finish this one. I still have a couple of chapters outlined. Please don't worry I fixed a storyline error in this and the next one will hopefully go online tonight.

The briefing room was already filled with chatter but Nancy hovered outside the door not really knowing if and when she should enter or if she could talk to John before he entered. Her hope was destroyed when a woman exited the room with a mountain of a man saying "The Colonel seems to be angry and distracted. I hope he can compose himself for our off-world travel" "Don't worry Teyla. Soldiers always are on the point on their missions and Sheppard is the best."

So, this is the time. I think he is alone in there and if he really is so distracted that his team is worried. I need to set this straight.

Nancy took a deep calming breath and stepped through the turned wall pieces. She observed John flipping through the files in front of him for a moment and started to speak when he looked up:

"Can we talk? I really need to explain or at least apologize for ambushing you." She waited for what seemed like hours for John to say something.

"A little warning would have been nice you know. Maybe a little hint when we saw each other on Earth." "I didn't know about the Program then and I didn't know General O'Neill was such a joker. I have a feeling he knows a lot more then he lets on."

"Yes, that general is a joker. I learned about this crazy mission when I flew him out and was nearly shot down by an ancient drone." John laughed and Nancy nodded knowingly. She had read that report.

"I knew you were here and I was at the SGC for your dial in. I knew I was getting married before coming here and I kind of didn't want to explain the old last name. I guess it was a mistake to not write you beforehand. But the nice general seems to purposely have left some personnel records of my table when he gave me the boxes."

John looks at her confused but then he remembered what his second in command had told him "You didn't know Lorne was out here too" he surmised.

"Yeah, imagine my surprise when I ran into his arm on the trip up here" Nancy said slowly. She couldn't decide if she should tell John everything about their relationship with Evan.

I should talk with Evan first. It is his story too.

Nancy and John came to sort of a truce. He would accept her presence in the city and treat her with the respect an IOA delegate got from him but would not in any way blindly denounce her or turn the people against her actively.

The first mission briefing she attended provided a lot of insight in the workings of Sheppard's team in her eyes and she surmised that even if John was teasing MacKay basically the whole time he had great respect for the scientist. Ronon seemed calm and strategic; like someone you could count on to have a plan to get you out of a dangerous situation -even if his go to solution seemed to be shooting at someone or something. There as Teyla seemed to be the voice of reason for her team.

Thank god for that woman. If not for her I imagine this team would have a lot more injuries and close calls off-world.

After she had watched John and his team step through the gate, Nancy decided to seek out her brother in law to discuss what he was comfortable sharing with John about their history or if she just should leave it all out. When she finally found him on one of the balconies with a little help from Zelenka she simply started:

"Remember when you told me you would kill the guy that hurt me?" Evan turned around stunned. "Why would you bring that up here?" he was confused, and his mind was trying to make sense of the question.

Nancy watched his face and she knew the moment his mind had made the connection. His face displayed shock, horror, and surprise all at once. "Does he know about us? I… well I told him you married my brother but that's about it. Did you…" I spluttered out not knowing how he was supposed to react to finding out who he had vowed to kill back in the day. When he heard soft laughter, his head shot up.

"Stop, worrying Ev. I haven't told him anything yet. I wanted to talk to you first. I mean it all is ancient history and we never have to bring it up again if you don't want me to. But John asked how I met my husband and I really don't feel like outright lying to him. I kind of have to stay here for a while and work with him. ""So, do I and I would appreciate if you left out that I wanted to kill my CO"

If he was honest Evan had worried about that story coming out since the moment he learned of her past relationship with Sheppard. And then there was his own personal life to take into consideration as well. How would she react when she learned that he had dated Nancy? He really didn't look forward to that conversation at all.

After this little personal chat the soldier in Evan turned back to work and brought Nancy to her first of many scheduled training sessions before she would go off world.
