The Exfiles SGA Fic chapter 11
Two weeks later Nancy still hadn't managed to speak to John again, well alone that is. He managed to always have someone near and didn't train her at all. That in itself was probably a good thing but nonetheless she needed to tell him about Evan because the poor guy was walking around on eggshells near his CO. As weird as it sounded but she had a feeling as much as he dreaded Sheppard knowing the truth there also was his friend, Lt. Cadman whom Nancy knew by now was pretty much a walking and talking gossip magazine. And that woman seemed to know everything about anybody in this city.
"Director, can you come to my office?" Nancy heard Samantha Carters voice in her ear. She clicked it and confirmed that she was on her way.
When she arrived at the office overlooking the gate room she saw John, Evan and Laura Cadman already there. "Oh, sorry I didn't know you had a meeting before me. I can step back out" she excused her entrance and was about to head out again, but Sam stopped her "No, come in please. We were just waiting for you."
After Nancy had also taken a seat, Carter continued:" We are sending teams one and two on a trade mission with Dr. Keller and you are free to join after you have completed one last training session." Nancy was curious "And what will my last training be?" "If I may" Cadman looked for permission from her three superiors "You will need to learn the basics about using C4, just in case…." And there she trailed off, but Nancy nodded her head. "I understand. When do we start?"
Instead of Cadman, John shocked her by answering: "After the lunch you are now going to have with me." Nancy tried her best not to show her shock and she also noticed Evan looking puzzled and the curious explosives expert staring at her in disbelief. This is going to be one really interesting afternoon!
The small group soon dispersed, and the former married couple made their way to the mess hall in silence.
Only after they had gotten their food and found a table outside on a balcony John said a word "So…"
"What's going on John? We haven't talked in weeks and now out of the blue you decide to have lunch with me. Is there something you want to talk to me about? You realize that your little stunt there will get me, of all people a roasting from your resident gossip database?"
John could hear the annoyance in her voice, so he tried to tread lightly but he needed to know why his second in command had been so off as of recent.
"This is going to sound incredibly insensitive but are you really married to Lorne's brother or are you and him an item?" he rattled of as fast as he could and then made himself as little as possible. He was surprised when Nancy laughed whole heartedly.
"John, yes I am sure. And just so you know, Evan is having his eyes elsewhere. But I guess he has been acting a bit strange since he found out about us. Well I didn't tell him much now he figured it out himself here."
"And why would he act weird then?"
"I guess I should start at the beginning then: You remember Marie and Grace?" "Your friends who did never really like me? Yeah I remember them."
"After we finalized the divorce these two dragged me out with them every chance they got, and I shot every guy down that even tried to talk to me but one evening one guy came along and I didn't send him packing." She stopped not knowing how much to tell John. "And in the end, you ended up marrying him." The man offered up. "No, I married his brother!" She corrected, and John chocked on his drink. "Well, this is a story I think I don't need to hear. Just tell me this: did you date him, and does he know you are telling me?" "Yes, and yes. But only a short while because after that he told me he was Air Force and that he had to leave for a mission out of country and that is when I met my husband. So, please leave him be. It is not his fault that I am here complicating your life. And now I should leave for my fun afternoon with explosives and a sure to come interrogation." Nancy said and put an effective end to their conversation. John was stunned but he also knew he had to talk to his second in command and make him understand that there were absolutely no hard feelings. And on another note, he really wanted to know who the major was interested in. If he wont spill I could always threaten him with a roasting from Cadman.
