I realise how long it's been since I've updated this and I'm so sorry. I've been caught up in the whirlwind that is life.
The next morning I was woken up voices outside our door. Wanda stirred slightly before cuddling closer to me and not moving again. How does she not wake up to these things? I mean, seriously. I pulled her even closer as I shut my eyes again. Just as I was about to fall asleep, there was a knock on our front door before it opened.
"Girls? Are you decent in there?" Natasha. Of course. I could hear her tidy up the front room.
"You have five minutes to get dressed if not." And Maria as well. What a lovely surprise. I checked my clock which read half six. I groaned inwardly.
"We're decent. Wanda is still asleep but we're decent." I replied. Our door swung open and in walked Maria and Nat. Maria leant against the door whilst Nat sat on Wanda's bunk.
"Does this even get used anymore?" Nat asked. I shook my head.
"Not really."
"It's time to get up." Maria stated.
"Tell that to Maximoff." I smiled down at my girlfriend's sleeping form.
"Will she be waking up anytime soon?"
"Yeah. It just takes her brain like ten minutes to contemplate the idea of actually opening her eyes. Plus I don't have the heart to wake her."
"You're just a big softy."
"Only for her." I stated honestly.
"We'll wait out there until she's awake and dressed. Then it's time for breakfast."
Wanda woke up five minutes later and gave me a sleepy smile. She stretched her back out before cuddling back up to me. I kissed her forehead and she looked up at me with shining eyes.
"It's time to get up, beautiful." I whispered.
"You're not so bad yourself." I chuckled and pulled the blankets away.
"Let's shower and then go eat."
"Okay," she grumbled and sat up. She shuffled into the bathroom. Five minutes later, she came out, toothbrush in hand and wearing nothing but a towel with a look of complete irritation and a hint of red in her eyes.
"What's happened?" I wandered over to her, kissing away the scowl.
"We're out of toothpaste," she grumbled. "It's far too early to be dealing with this."
"I'll sort it. One sec," I told her. I opened our bedroom door slightly and poked my head to see Nat and Maria tidying up still.
"Guys, either one of you happen to have some spare toothpaste nearby?"
"You're out?" I nodded.
"I've never seen someone look so pissed off about there being no toothpaste."
"I'll go get you some as my room is closer," Maria sighed, a hint of amusement lacing it.
"Merci." I grinned. Turning back to my girlfriend, who was now wearing jeans and a tank top, I informed her that the much needed toothpaste was on its way.
"Thank you. You know how much I hate not cleaning my teeth in the morning." She ground them together is dismay.
"I know, sweetheart. I'm gonna go get myself ready. Give me five minutes and then you can brush your teeth."
I grabbed some clean underwear, a pair of jeans and a checked shirt and made my way into the bathroom. I quickly washed my face and body, running my hand through my hair with some water to keep it back. Once I was satisfied it looked fairly decent, I dried myself and pulled on my clothes. I opened my door to see Wanda sitting on her bed, reading her book. I smiled at how engrossed she could get so quickly. Her toothbrush along with the newly acquired toothpaste lay forgotten on the bed.
"One of these days, I'm going to buy you the next book in the series." She looked at me with a smile, folding the corner of her current page over before setting the book down, giving me a proper look at it. The large lettering on the front cover had small holes in it and the photo of a boy with black, messy hair and a scar with glasses was fading. The tattered book was well-loved, admittedly but it would start falling apart soon.
"Please do. It is one of the greatest book series on the planet."
"How long have you had it?"
"Pietro stole it from a library for me four years ago. Simply because I wouldn't shut up about wanting to read it."
"Who knew a boy wizard fighting evil would take the world by such storm?"
"Have you read any of them?" Wanda picked up the toothbrush and toothpaste and started to walk into the bathroom.
"The first four," she whirled around to face me, standing in the doorway. "I never got the chance to read the fifth."
"Let's go, girls. Some of us are hungry." Nat called.
"Say nothing about them. I don't want any spoilers." My girlfriend was holding her toothbrush like a sword and pointed it at me. After a small stare-down which she won, Wanda walked into the bathroom. I chuckled and grabbed my hunting knife, strapping it to my leg and then holstered my pistol.
Breakfast was a quick affair. Clint and Steve would come and get us at one o'clock to take us to the tower. Tony is leaving in twenty to have rooms for everyone prepared. As soon as he said it, I burst into laughter as the image of Tony in a maid's outfit polishing rooms with a feather duster appeared in my head. I couldn't speak for like ten minutes so I could tell them what was so funny because every time I calmed myself down enough, I would go to tell them and the thought of it would make me cry with laughter again.
Eventually, Wanda read my mind to find out what was up. Whilst it made her giggle for a good couple of minutes as well, she could actually tell them. Clint burst into laughter as well, slapping the table as he cackled. I saw Tony raise an eyebrow at me as everyone else chuckled whilst I was holding my stomach with one hand and wiping away tears with the other.
"I'm s-s-sorry but it was hilarious." I finally spoke after calming down enough.
"You're lucky I like you, Knight." His voice sounded annoyed but his face said otherwise.
When we finished breakfast, Tony left for the tower to make sure everything was in order for our arrival. Nat and Maria came up with myself and Wanda to help us pack. I grabbed my duffle bags and backpack out from underneath my bed and opened them up on my bunk. All my personal items, photos and the like, went into my backpack, my clothes went into the two duffle bags.
Wanda finished packing before me. Nat was helping her and she clearly had a technique for packing which didn't involve stuffing it in and hoping for the best. Wanda sighed and used her power to rearrange everything neatly in the two bags creating room on top. I zipped them up and placed them by the front door. Once we were satisfied the room was completely empty, Nat and Maria left us to our thoughts.
We stood in the middle of the seating area, taking in the room for the final time. I was going to miss this place, in a way. I had learned a lot here. The start of the rest of my life started here. I tried to discreetly wipe at my eyes, pretending I had an itch.
Not wanting to show how emotional I was feeling about leaving, I pulled Wanda to me, capturing her lips in a long, passionate kiss as my arms wrapped around her waist. She gasped in surprise before her hands came up to cup my face and then delved into my hair. I moved her back and pinned her against the wall as my tongue invaded her mouth. Eventually, air became an issue and so we pulled away.
We rested against each other for a few moments as we caught our breaths. I opened my eyes to see her smiling at me. I knew exactly what that smile meant.
"On a scale of one to ten, how loud are my thoughts right now?"
"Definite ten. Then again, they never go lower than an eight, anyway."
We untangled ourselves after a chaste kiss and grabbed our bags. With one last look at the room on our way out, we shut the door and headed down to the foyer.
What do you think?
