Turnabout Legend
Chapter 8:
A Justified Testimony
11:30 am
20th December
Hall of Origin – Courtroom
Arceus nodded to what Athena had demanded, slamming down the gavel to demand silence in the courtroom. The prosecution remained silent, with Simon having his back against the desk, Reshiram with her wing arms crossed and eyes closed and Lugia closely inspecting a microphone.
In the meantime, Athena looked steadily at the three members of the Swords of Justice at the witness stand. Mesprit sweated nervously due to the eyes on the defense team and Keldeo remained silent as well, looking through the Court Record.
"Very well!" Arceus started calmly, making the court deathly silent when she spoke. "Cobalion, Virizion and Terrakion. Please give your testimony on the whereabouts of Cresselia on the night of the murder."
The three Swords of Justice nodded, with Cobalion speaking up. "Yes, your honor."
WITNESS TESTIMONY:
Cresselia's Whereabouts
Terrakion: Well, as you may know, Cresselia left the party around 6:50pm…
Terrakion: And was supposed to be back at the party twenty minutes later!
Virizion: S-some eyewitness reported that Cresselia there was s-something important she had to do….
Virizion: B-but we don't know what it was. We t-think it was something to d-do with Darkrai….
Cobalion: We think Cresselia might have known of Darkrai's plan to kill Ash.
Cobalion: And tried to stop him before he could kill the chosen one.
Terrakion: But obviously with the dead body, it's obvious that Cresselia arrived too late!
Virizion: I-if it was just as the murder was h-happening or after, we don't know.
Cobalion: That's why we think Cresselia didn't return to the party to tell the others, because she knew what was going to happen! Darkrai was heading to the crime scene!
Terrakion: Cresselia probably thought she could have reasoned with Darkrai, to stop him committing the crime!
Virizion: D-Darkrai, however, didn't e-expect Cresselia to turn up… And when she did…
Cobalion: ...Darkrai killed her. It's the only logical explanation!
"Hmmm..." Arceus muttered, thinking to herself about the testimony from the Swords of Justice. "That is certainly a long testimony… It fits in with the argument of Cresselia being a witness to the murder and her whereabouts."
The Alpha Legendary nodded confidently, displaying an aura of pleasure. She looked at the Swords of Justice, pleased. "That was a very good testimony. You explained it very well."
The three Swords of Justice bowed. "Thank you, your Honor." Cobalion stated for the group. "It is a perfect testimony, one that will get the desired results!"
"Yeah, a guilty verdict…." Athena thought, unamused. Keldeo stared at the three Swords with a confused expression on his face.
"What's wrong?" Mesprit questioned curiously. Keldeo continued to stare at the three.
"Their testimony…" Keldeo replied, still not taking his eyes off on Cobalion, Terrakion and Virizion. "I feel… something off about it."
Before Athena could say anything about this, Arceus slammed her gavel down. "It may be a good testimony, but I cannot have any doubts in this courtroom." Arceus confirmed seriously. "Defense, you may cross-examine now, to get rid of these doubts."
Athena nodded. "Yes, your honor!"
"Heh…." Simon went, his back pointing towards the defense. "Let's see what kind of strikes you do this time, Cykes-Dono…..Will it be with a dull and blunt sword, or the sharpest you got?"
CROSS-EXAMINATION:
Cresselia's Whereabouts
Terrakion: Well, as you may know, Cresselia left the party around 6:50pm….
HOLD IT!
"Do you know why she left around that time?" Athena asked curiously. The three Swords of Justice frowned at her, making Athena jump.
"Isn't this WHOLE TESTIMONY about why she left?!" Terrakion shot back, angrily. "She LEFT AT THAT TIME, because she KNEW what Darkrai was doing!"
"You really are slow, aren't you?" Cobalion said coldly. Virizion chuckled a little.
"I wonder why you are an attorney in the first place with a Slakoth-like mindset you have there."
Athena slammed onto the desk, about to yell out when…
OBJECTION!
Mesprit pointed out rather angrily that: "The witnesses have no right to talk to the defense like that!"
"Oh, I concur!" Simon remarked, facing the defense team with a dark smirk on his face. "Sometimes, I think Cykes-Dono may need to think things through before objecting out like that. It's quite obvious after all, with the testimony!"
"I fear for the day in any universe where the idiots run the courtrooms…." Reshiram remarked harshly. Lugia said nothing, deciding not to join in with insulting Athena.
"Why are all of you lot being such meanies….?! Don't I get this enough in my universe….?" Athena questioned to herself, sweating nervously. Keldeo nodded to what was being said.
"No offense, Athena….But it was kinda obvious." he went, looking back at the testimony stand.
"Et tu, Keldeo?" Athena thought to herself again, sweating bullets.
Terrakion: And was supposed to be back at the party twenty minutes later!
Virizion: S-some eyewitness reported that Cresselia there was s-something important she had to do….
HOLD IT!
"The eyewitnesses…." Athena started, beginning her question. "Did they notice on how Cresselia acted?"
Virizion nodded. "Yes. The witnesses stated that a few minutes before she left, she became somewhat nervous!"
The meadow Sword of Justice pulled out a piece of paper from seemingly nowhere, to read off. "When it was 6:50pm, she shot off quickly! We thought it was strange at first, but now, we think she was trying to stop Darkrai! She knew that Darkrai was going to do it at a certain time, and raced over as soon as possible when she felt it was the best time to try!"
The court burst into chatter, only to be silenced with Arceus slamming the gavel.
"Silence in the courtroom!" she declared. Once the courtroom had become quiet, she nodded. "Well, that certainly explains why she left the party… Please continue!"
Virizion: B-but we don't know what it was. We t-think it was something to d-do with Darkrai….
Cobalion: We think Cresselia might have known of Darkrai's plan to kill Ash.
HOLD IT!
This time, Keldeo pointed out with his hoof. "Let's say for argument's sake…" Keldeo started, going to think. "If Darkrai was the actual murderer… How did Cresselia learn of Darkrai's plan?"
"What do you mean, Keldeo?" Lugia questioned whilst crossing his wings, curious to see where this was going.
"What I mean is, when did Cresselia learned of Darkrai's plans to kill Ash?" he answered. "I don't think Darkrai would have told Cresselia what he was going to do if, and I say, IF he was the murderer… Yet on the other hand, because he's a Dark type, Cresselia couldn't have read Darkrai's mind…"
Keldeo slammed on the desk, startling the three Swords of Justice.
"…If Darkrai was the murderer, how did Cresselia learn of his plans?!"
The courtroom burst into chatter once more, as many members of the audience questioned how that happened.
OBJECTION!
"Hmm…." Reshiram pondered, having objected out. "I see your point there, Keldeo. But, I have an explanation for that."
"You do?!" Arceus asked, surprised by this. Reshiram nodded, presenting what appears to be a map.
"This piece of evidence was handed to me by a Legendary that has nothing to do with the case." Reshiram stated seriously, crossing her arms. Lugia's eyes glow, and a large projection of the image appears in the middle of the court.
The evidence looks extremely similar to the map that Giratina had given Phoenix, Apollo and Athena on their first day here. The only difference is that the North West Wing is circled with a red pen, with the note 'KILL ASH HERE, DEC 18'. The map appears to be crumpled up.
"DNA testing shows that remnants of Darkrai are on this map, a few weeks old." Reshiram explained, smiling a little. "The Legendary that found it was helping out the investigation, and found it in Cresselia's room. She must have found it and took it away to learn about Darkrai's plans."
Lugia's eyes then stopped glowing. "Heh, that's how Cresselia knew, Keldeo!"
The courtroom burst out into chatter again, with Keldeo and Mesprit sweating nervously. "Well that contradiction went swimmingly…" Keldeo remarked sarcastically.
Athena, however, is looking at the Swords of Justice on the witness stand. It appears that all three are in deep thought, with Terrakion looking to the left, Cobalion looking downing and Virizion looking to the right.
"What's bothering them...?" Athena questioned to herself, as the court became silent.
"Hmmm…." Arceus started. "Very well then. The court accepts this evidence."
Hall of Origin Map Info Updated
Cobalion: And tried to stop him before he could kill the chosen one.
Terrakion: But obviously with the dead body, it's obvious that Cresselia arrived too late!
HOLD IT!
"By the dead body, you mean Ash?" Athena questioned, curiously. Terrakion nodded, with a frown on his face.
"Yeah, slightly obvious." he replied calmly. Athena goes to think about this part.
"Do I really ask obvious questions? The Swords seem annoyed by this….." she thought, concerned by this. She then nodded.
"Continue your testimony."
Virizion: I-if it was just as the murder was h-happening or after, we don't know.
Cobalion: That's why we think Cresselia didn't return to the party to tell the others, because she knew what was going to happen! Darkrai was heading to the crime scene!
OBJECTION!
To everyone's utter surprise and shock, it was Mesprit who objected out. She slammed on the desk, staring at the Swords intently.
"There's something wrong with your last bit of testimony…" Mesprit started. She then turned to Athena and Keldeo, who look bewildered. "Um, do you mind I take it from here for a little?"
"Sure!" Athena agreed, with Mesprit turning her attention back to the Swords, who were scowling.
"What's wrong with their testimony?" Lugia questioned rather annoyed, and with Simon preparing to strike and Taka waiting for a chance to fly.
"Well, the part where Cobalion said that Darkrai was heading to the crime scene…" Mesprit started to explain. "How was he able to get there?"
"That is simple, Mesprit-Dono." Simon shot back, standing back up from the strike, smiling confidently. "How Darkrai got to the crime can be explained easily. He went…"
In a sudden second, Simon's smug face quickly dropped to a startled and angry scowl, and he was leaning over if he just got hit by a sword.
"ARGH!" Simon yelled out in anger, surprising even the Swords. Mesprit crossed her small arms and grinned triumphantly. With everyone confused, Mesprit continued to explain.
"It appears that Prosecutor Blackquill has caught on!" she remarked, knowing where she's going. "It's been established that on the night of the murder, Darkrai was feeling ill." Mesprit then grabbed out the data on the Hall of Origin's Map.
"Darkrai's bedroom is in the South West Wing, the party is in West Wing and the murder happened in the North West Wing…." Mesprit continued to explain. "The west wing is the shortest route but couldn't be accessed because of the party, the Alpha Block can't be accessed by anyone but Palkia, Dialga, Giratina or Arceus and the route from the south-west wing to the south east all the way around to the north-west to avoid the west wing couldn't be done by Darkrai because he wasn't feel well and would have collapsed."
Mesprit slammed down on the desk once again, frowning. "My question is, Swords, how was Darkrai able to get to the North West Wing…"
Mesprit points out, filled with determination. "…if all routes were impossible to take!"
"AAHHH!" both Reshiram and Lugia yell out in surprise, not knowing that. Lugia dropped the microphone that he was holding onto his onto his foot and falls over in pain, while Reshiram clutched her chest in anger.
"I'M ALL RIGHT!" Lugia yells from behind the bench.
OBJECTION!
Reshiram was clearly annoyed. "Darkrai could have slipped through the party room without anyone noticing!" she yelled out angrily, still clutching her chest.
OBJECTION!
Athena, now getting on what Mesprit was trying to say, pointed out with a smirk. "No, that wouldn't be possible!" Athena stated, slamming on the desk with one hand. "Didn't the Swords' eyewitnesses tell you how Cresselia was acting? She would have felt Darkrai nearby, being his COUNTERPART for goodness sake!"
"ACK!" Cobalion, Terrakion and Virizion all yelled out in unison, shocked on how they didn't realize this.
OBJECTION!
Lugia, getting back up on his feet, slammed down on the desk with both wings. "Darkrai has the power to sink into the shadows! Wouldn't that be enough to hide from Cresselia?"
Athena then goes to think about it. "He's got a point there…" she thinks to herself, wondering if Darkrai could had escaped the eyes of Cresselia. "Could Darkrai do that…?"
Keldeo turns to Athena. "I would have expected Cresselia to know if Darkrai was about, regardless if he could be seen or not." He stated calmly, thinking as well. "Take Giratina for example. He'll know if Dialga and Palkia are fighting….."
"You got a point there…" Athena murmured to herself, quietly. "How can I explain that…?"
Arceus slammed down her gavel. "I see that both sides have a valid argument." She started, closing her eyes. "The defense argues that Cresselia would have sensed Darkrai coming through the party room. However, the prosecution says he could have hid in the shadows to sneak through."
Arceus opens her eyes, wearing a serious expression. "If the defense can't bring back a valid answer, I'll hand down my verdict on the case."
"ARGH!" Mesprit yelled out in surprise, not knowing it would have ended up like this. "I-I'm….sorry Athena…."
Athena shook her head. "It's okay, because I think I've got a good comeback!"
Arceus slammed down her gavel once again. "Very well then! Defense, please present evidence that shows how Darkrai could or could not slip past Cresselia!"
TAKE THAT!
Athena presented out the Zoology of Legends book. "This book should be able to tell us if Cresselia was able to notice Darkrai in the shadows!" Athena explained, grinning confidently.
"Ah, the Zoology of Legends!" Lugia goes, rather cheerfully. "Yes, good answer there, Athena! That book holds the knowledge about us, you see?"
Simon stands calm, itching Taka's chin. "Well, what are you waiting for, Cykes-Dono? Find the page on Cresselia!"
Athena then proceeded to open the book, and with a comment from Mesprit that Cresselia's page is between Giratina's and Phione's pages, she quickly flipped to it.
When she got to that page, a surprise was in store for her. A shock of a surprise.
"W-w-what?" Athena went, skin going pale as a nervous sweat began. "What is this…? This…can't be real…"
Keldeo, Mesprit, Arceus and the Prosecution team looked at Athena with confusion. "Defense team!" Arceus called out sternly. "What's the matter?!"
"The page about Cresselia…" Athena started, turning the book around for everyone to see. "IT'S GONE! Someone's ripped it out!"
The whole courtroom roared into chatter as Arceus slammed down her gavel to demand silence many times, but was unable to due to the massive revelation of the missing page. Mesprit, using her psychic powers, lifted up the book as Keldeo looked at the Swords of Justice, who all seemed confused and shocked as well. Athena looked over to the Prosecution, where all of them are in shock. Simon has the expression of anger and shock while leaning over the desk if he had just been slashed, Reshiram clutching her chest again and Lugia has fallen over.
"I'M OK!" he yelled again.
Mesprit's eyes widen as she sees the obvious rip in the book. "H-how….how did this happen?" Mesprit questioned meekly, surprised at this. Keldeo, gritting his teeth, turned to Mesprit quickly.
"Quick, check Darkrai's page!" he requested, in a worried sort of tone. "I…..have a bad feeling about that page!"
Mesprit nodded and quickly turned to Darkrai's page. As soon as she got to that page, Mesprit screamed out in shock, turning invisible as she dropped the book onto the desk. Keldeo's eyes shot over to the page and sees that his worst fear about it has come true.
"Your Honor…." Keldeo said, close to breaking out into a sweat. "On a closer analysis of the book, it… appears that the page entry on Darkrai is also missing."
"WHAT?!" Simon yelled out, furiously. "HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE?!"
Zoology of Legends Updated.
Arceus nodded, having a look of surprise on her face as she slammed her gavel. "Who is responsible for this?!"
"This is certainly bad…We don't know if Cresselia was able to notice Darkrai in the shadows or not…" Athena thought to herself nervously. Then, to her surprise, Athena heard some emotions coming from Cobalion. Unlike Terrakion and Virizion, who were only shocked, Cobalion was not only shocked, but he had the emotion of sadness in his heart.
Thinking that was weird, Athena shook it off and was determined. "Your Honor!" Athena called out, getting Arceus' attention. "I want to request something!"
"What is it?" Arceus questioned Athena, surprised.
"I request evidence from the Hall of Origin's Library on who took out the Zoology of Legends from on the day of the murder until up to today! It might give us the clue on who ripped out the pages and gives us the answer on Cresselia!"
Arceus nodded, slamming her gavel. "Very well! Request granted. The court will take a ten minute recess in order to find this evidence!"
Ten minutes later….
12:10 am
20th of December
Hall of Origin – Courtroom
"The court is now back in session for the trial of Darkrai." Arceus declared, as everyone got back to their seats within the courtroom. She then turns to see the Prosecution, who looked extremely agitated. Simon especially looks more pale than usual.
"Prosecutor Blackquill?" Arceus started, observing the prosecution. "What's the matter?"
Simon slammed down on the desk so hard that it caused Taka to fly off, and land on Arceus' head. Simon glared at the Swords of Justice angrily, who are flinching back in fright.
"Grrrrr…" Simon growled, so angry that he couldn't express his words properly. Lugia, gripping the edge of the desk, could speak however.
"…We got the list, your Honor…" Lugia began, eyes dilated and twitching. "But… we didn't expect…"
"As my allies are too angry to speak sensibly…" Reshiram interrupted, calmer than the other two. "We got a list of whom rented out the Zoology of Legends book from the day of the murder till it was taken in as evidence by the defense team. We've made two copies for you, your Honor, as well as the defense team."
Taka suddenly dropped a piece of paper for Arceus and then flew over to Athena, dropping another piece of paper to then fly back to Simon.
"As this courtroom's audience doesn't know who took out the book…" Reshiram continued to explain. "I'll read out the list."
Reshiram then took a deep breath, coughed and then began to read the list.
"Before the murder, the ones who took out the book were Uxie and Zekrom. The ones after the murder are Mewtwo, Cobalion, Deoxys, Kyurem and Mesprit, the last one probably due to her being in the defense team."
Arceus then nodded, closing her eyes. "Oh, I see…" She went, thinking for a few seconds. Then a few seconds later, her eyes shot open.
"WHAT?!" she goes, totally shocked by the names on the list, one in particularly. She turned her attention to Cobalion at the stand, who looks like he's going to lose his cool quite quickly, due to how nervous he looks and the amount of sweat he's producing. (Ew….)
List of Renters added to the Court Record
Terrakion and Virizion are looking at him and each other, shocked to hear that Cobalion's name was on the list. Athena concluded that is the reason why the Prosecution looks so angry.
Arceus glared at Cobalion, somewhat angry. "Witness! Ex-"
SILENCE!
Simon slammed down on the desk once more. "I'll take it from here!" Simon asserted firmly while looking directly at Cobalion, who has calmed down a bit. Simon spat out the feather he had in his mouth and slashed in in mid-air, right in front of the Swords.
"AHH!" both Terrakion and Virizion yell out in surprise, jumping backwards whilst Cobalion remained firm. He stared at the Prosecution for a moment.
"Before you jump to any conclusions, let me explain!" Cobalion declared strongly. "I am not responsible for what happened to the book, your Honor. It was perfectly fine when I returned it."
OBJECTION!
Keldeo slammed down on the desk with his hooves. "But why did you have the book in the first place?! It's suspicious for you to have that your name on that list! You could be a suspect in this whole affair if you are responsible for tampering with the book! I don't want that!"
Cobalion flinched for a second when he heard that but then regained his composure. "I took it out for research, that's all. Nothing more and nothing else. Can we move on? This has nothing to do with the crime!"
OBJECTION!
Athena shook her head. "I have to disagree! This may be a clue on what happened to Cresselia on the day of the murder! I request a testimony on why Cobalion got the book out!"
Arceus slammed her gavel down. "The defense has a fair point. Are there any objections from the Prosecution?"
Lugia shook his head as Simon was itching Taka's chin again and Reshiram has her eyes closed. "None at all, your Honor!"
Arceus then nodded. "Very well then! Cobalion, please testify to the court on why you took the book out!"
With Terrakion and Virizion looking unsure at him, a very annoyed Cobalion scowls. "All right then. But this is a waste of time!"
WITNESS TESTIMONY
Cobalion and the Zoology of Legends
Cobalion: Why did I take the book out?! For research of course!
Cobalion: I took the book out after the murder had happened and Darkrai had been arrested.
Cobalion: I needed to know about Darkrai's and Cresselia's abilities!
Cobalion: Why did I?! To figure out how Darkrai could have done the crime!
Cobalion: I returned the book once I had finished.
Cobalion: AND last time I left it, the pages were still in the book!
Cobalion: I'm not responsible for the missing pages! Why would I tear them out?!
Cobalion: For all I know, the ones responsible for the missing pages could be anyone!
Arceus looked quite startled at Cobalion's testimony, seeing how annoyed he was being accused of tampering with evidence. "Well…" She started, surprised at this. "I didn't expect this. Your testimony certainly explained why you got the book out. But, your reaction… it's not like you to lose your cool, Cobalion."
Cobalion said nothing, still annoyed. Terrakion stepped forward, to speak. "It's just that Cobalion has been under a lot of stress lately, your Honor!" he explained, somewhat composed. "He's beginning to cave into the pressure, you see? Even the most strong willed of us can feel stressed out! It's probably due to the murder investigation!"
Mesprit then re-appeared and then turned to Athena. "I don't think that why Cobalion is feeling annoyed!" she whispered to Athena. "I can feel a massive feeling of anxiety from him!"
Athena nodded, looking at Cobalion with an unsure expression. "Hmm…." she muttered to herself. "I wonder why he's feeling like that. Even I can hear it, though it doesn't seem to be affecting his testimony…"
"Maybe…" Keldeo started quietly, still staring at the Swords. "Maybe Cobalion's frightened because he thinks that the blackmail might be revealed."
"If that's true, I'm going to expose it!" Athena declared, grinning.
CROSS-EXAMINATION
Cobalion and the Zoology of Legends
Cobalion: Why did I take the book out?! For research of course!
HOLD IT!
"What kind of research?" Athena asked. Cobalion scowled at Athena angrily. He slammed a hoof on the witness stand.
"Learn to be patient, banana girl!" he commented, harshly. "My testimony will explain it!"
Virizion nodded, seriously. "It's kinda obvious there, Little Miss Defense! Let Cobalion explain what type of research he had to make! Can't you learn when to speak when needed?!" Virizion questioned rhetorically. "It's obvious that you need to learn how to do that!"
"And what's obvious here, in typical Ace Attorney humor…." Athena thought somewhat nervous and bitter. "…is that I get insulted anywhere I go, even in another world…."
Cobalion: I took the book out after the murder had happened and Darkrai had been arrested.
HOLD IT!
"What time was it when you took out the book?" Athena questioned again. "And what time did you return the book?" Cobalion gained a thoughtful look.
"Hmm…" he tried to remember. "I think it was about three o-clock in the morning when I took it out. I couldn't get to sleep, you see? I needed more knowledge on Darkrai, so I went to check the book out."
"What the witness says is true." Simon stated, calmly. "The list of the ones who took the book out has a time stamp on what time they took it out and what time they returned it." Taka suddenly landed in front of Simon, holding a sheet of paper in his beak.
"According to this, the Sword returned the book at about 4:30am." He read, stating the facts. Cobalion nodded at that.
"Yes, that's the time I returned it." Cobalion remarked, looking to the side. Athena nodded, then noticed something. Terrakion appeared to be in deep thought about something. Athena frowned, wondering what it is.
HANG ON!
"Terrakion!" the said Legend jumped when Athena called out his name. "You appear to be thinking about something. Is it something to do with Cobalion's testimony?"
Terrakion looked surprised as being asked this, and became nervous upon everyone looking at him for an answer. "Well…" he started out, not sure where this is going. "…we, as the Swords of Justice, usually scout out our opponents before we face them on. What Cobalion did with the book is what we would usually do, finding more about who we're facing."
Terrakion then turned to Cobalion. "But what I don't get is, don't we already know enough about Darkrai? Why did you go and search him up, Cobalion?"
"The reason is, I was feel anxious about getting the guilty verdict for Darkrai." Cobalion explained to Terrakion calmly. "I didn't want to screw it up and I found I couldn't remember the details about Darkrai because I was in such a state."
Terrakion nodded. "Hmm… But, is there any other reason you went and got the book?" he asked, curiously.
Cobalion stared at Terrakion with a disapproving look on his face. "No. There was no other reason."
Arceus slammed down her gavel. "I see that the testimony needs to be amended. Witness, please amend your testimony on that fact!"
Cobalion nodded, with a confident smirk. "Sure thing, your honor."
HOLD IT!
"Are you sure that the book was intact when you left it?!" Athena questioned seriously, slamming on the desk again. Cobalion scowled a lot, looking very annoyed.
"Like I said before, yes! It was fine!" Cobalion snapped back, angrily. "I didn't DO anything to it!"
OBJECTION!
"It's quite possible that you did do it, Sword…." Simon goes, calmly. "But on the other hand, like you said, you didn't do it. Since we have no idea what happened to those pages, we can only speculate."
Simon then leans over, looking like he was about to slash someone with a Sword. "We can only take your word for it…..If Cykes-Dono finds that you're lying, prepare to face the consequences!"
"But I'm not lying!" Cobalion goes, angrily. "Why doesn't anyone believe me?!"
Virizion steps forward, to re-ensure Cobalion. "Don't worry, Cobalion, I believe you!"
The Iron Will Sword of Justice then calms down a little, smiling even. "Thank you, Virizion. I appreciate it a lot."
Cobalion: I'm not responsible for the missing pages! Why would I tear them out?! I HAVE NO REASON TO DO SO!
OBJECTION!
All eyes in the courtroom then turn to Athena, who is deep in thought
"Is Cobalion really lying? That's the question here." Athena thought logically, unsure about Cobalion lying. "If Apollo was here at the desk, he would be able to tell straight away. Even though Cobalion might be telling the truth about this matter, he's been playing dirty ever since the case began. Even if he didn't do it, I could prove a reason on why he 'could' have torn them out…"
"D-defense?" Arceus goes, surprised at the objection just now. "Do you have a problem with the testimony right now?"
This catches Athena off guard, and she sweats nervously. "S-sorry….your Honor….I was just thinking about something…" She replied, nervously.
OBJECTION!
Reshiram slammed down on the desk, glaring at Athena. "It is clear that the defense is wasting time. The prosecution demands that either the defense tells us what they find wrong or we move on with the subject, moving to our witness to the crime!" Reshiram demanded, seriously.
The two Legendaries turn to Athena, somewhat knowing what she going to do next, although Athena was uncertain herself. Keldeo, however, looked unsure.
"Are… are you gonna really do it?" Keldeo asked, uncertain. "It could cause a lot of trouble…" Athena nodded her head.
"Of course it will. But, if there's anything I learnt from being a lawyer, the truth needs to come out, no matter how ugly it is." she replied back confidently.
Athena then slammed on the desk, staring at the Swords. "In the previous part of the testimony, the witness said he had no motive to rip out the pages." Athena stated calmly. "Well, if he's telling the truth or not, I don't know. However, I have a piece of evidence that can give Cobalion a motive to do so!"
Cobalion frowned, taken aback by this. "What?" he goes, surprised at Athena's logic. The prosecution look at each other with confusion, even Arceus is confused.
"Defense! What are you going on about?!"
"To answer your question, your Honor…." Athena answered, pulling out a piece of paper out. "This is the answer to Cobalion's motive!"
The moment that the paper appeared on the desk, Cobalion and Virizion's faces went fifty shades paler, almost white even. A nervous sweat begins to appear on Cobalion's face as he stared at the letter.
"AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!" both Cobalion and Virizion yelled out in shock and horror flinching back, whilst a surprised look on Terrakion's face appear.
"What on earth is that thing?" Lugia questioned, somewhat frighten of the Sword's yells of fear. Athena grinned confidently.
"This is a Blackmail Letter, addressed to the Swords of Justice!"
"WHAT?!" both Simon and Reshiram shout out in shock, as the courtroom burst into chatter. Arceus tried to get order but was unable to as the audience refuse to become silenced.
"HOW…." Cobalion started, looking like he just been slashed with a sword. "HOW DID YOU FIND THAT LETTER!?"
"More importantly…." Lugia interrupted, wanting to know what's going on. "How does it fit with the testimony?!"
Athena nodded. "I'll explain!" she declared. "You see, this letter was sent by someone wanting to blackmail the Swords of Justice to for a particular end. That end is this: 'Remember that favor I ask you to keep? Fill it out now. Get Darkrai a guilty verdict.'"
Athena slammed on the table. "This is the motive that Cobalion could have used to tear out the pages!" She announced to the courtroom, proudly. Keldeo looked over to the stand, with Terrakion being calm, Virizion extremely uspet and Cobalion looking like he's going to have a heart attack.
OBJECTION!
"Do we even know if it's the Swords of Justice?!" Reshiram goes, looking anxious and angry at the same time.
Mesprit nodded, nervous. "Y-yes! It says on the beginning of the letter!"
OBJECTION!
"Why on earth is there a Blackmail Letter addressed to the Swords of Justice?!" Lugia demanded, eyes dilated. "There's no reason for them to get blackmailed!"
Athena shook her head. "No, there is a perfect reason on why the Swords have been blackmailed, and it fits in with the missing pages of the book!"
A sudden slam of Arceus' gavel is heard and Athena turns her attention to the reining judge. "It seems the defense may have an explanation for the Blackmail Letter. Let's hear it then. What reason was there for the Swords of Justice to compile with the letter?"
Athena grinned in a confident manner, crossing her arms. "The reason is that it dates a few years ago, when a battle between Keldeo and Kyurem happened!" the attorney in yellow explained without missing a beat. Cobalion can be seen gritting his teeth, becoming more and more pale by the minute.
OBJECTION!
Reshiram slammed down on the table once more. "What are you blabbing on about?!" she interrogated harshly. "That battle isn't supposed to happen until for another 75 years!"
Arceus nodded, giving an aura of displeasure out to show that she wasn't pleased. "The prosecution is right. That battle isn't supposed to happen yet. That is not a good excuse."
HOLD IT!
To the courtroom's shock, Keldeo pointed out a hoof. "Your honor! It did really happen! I testify to that fact!" he declared, trying to back up Athena's point. "And if we ask Kyurem, he'll say the same thing!"
Arceus then glanced to the courtroom audience, to find where Kyurem is. Once she located the said ice dragon, she asked him a simple question: "Is this true, Kyurem?"
Kyurem, sitting next to Groudon and behind Apollo, said nothing but simply nodded. "GACK!" Cobalion yelled out when he saw that Kyurem had nodded.
"I see…" Arceus went, thinking and giving out the aura of disappointment. "…so that has happened. So why wasn't I aware of it? How does this tie into the murder?"
"That's simple, your Honor!" Athena stated, more confidently. "The reason why you weren't made aware of this is because the Swords kept it a secret! Why, you ask? Well, at the time of when Keldeo fought Kyurem, you were still angry at the Creation trio! The Swords kept the secret of that until you had calmed down to avoid your wrath, and were about to tell you when the first Blackmail Letter came in!"
SILENCE!
"What 'first Blackmail Letter'?!" Simon questioned in disbelief. "First we find out there was a blackmail letter address to the Swords of Justice but now there are two?!"
Athena nodded. "Yes, but the first one was longer. It insult the Swords by reminding them of what happened, and asked to keep a favor in exchange for the sender's silence in the matter."
"And who was this sender?!" Simon retorted back, questioning the fact on this.
"That, I don't know. They signed the letter as 'The Secret Keeper'." Athena replied, still wondering who it is. "But, that can be found out later. The more important thing is, that Cobalion decided to keep the secret from Arceus because of he made a mistake that was huge to him."
Cobalion begins to sweat nervously, with his heart race as Athena continues to explain.
"The first mistake was letting Keldeo out of his sight, though Cobalion knows that it wasn't his fault."
"NO, STOP IT!" Cobalion yelled out in a desperate manner, with Athena ignoring him.
"The second was failing to stop Keldeo from fighting Kyurem and the third was letting the blackmail letter to happen." Athena finished off explaining. "This all comes into a mixture pot that creates one, big secret!"
Athena slammed on the table, to show her point. "Which would have been threaten to be exposed with the second Blackmail Letter!"
"WHAT?!" the Prosecution goes, horrified by this. Mesprit nodded to this.
"T-t-the r-reason why the S-Swords have been a-acting out of character is because of this letter!" she said nervously, with Keldeo taking in the info. "T-t-they d-didn't want Arceus to find out!"
Lugia looked at the Swords, with the tiniest of sadness in his eyes. "So that's why you've been acting strange… That would explain why Cobalion's been so hostile."
"But why would they hide it?" Reshiram questioned.
Mesprit slammed her tails onto the desk. "Y-y-you t-try t-tell our mother, a God, t-t-that you messed up y-your duties! Can y-you imagine the wrath?!"
HOLD IT!
"HOW….." Cobalion started, eyes narrow as he put one hoof on the testifying stand, looking like he had been slashed. Virizion is gulping nervously as Terrakion looked to one side "….HOW DID YOU FIND OUT ABOUT THIS?! HUH?! WHO TOLD YOU?!"
TAKE THAT!
"It's simple really." Athena said calmly. "Terrakion told me."
Cobalion snapped round to face Terrakion, pure fury in his face. "YOU DID WHAT?! WHY?!" he yelled at Terrakion. The said Cave Sword gritted his teeth in annoyance.
"Look, I'm sick and tired of that secret hanging over our heads." Terrakion vented, angry at Cobalion. "It's damaged our relationship with Keldeo, for goodness sake! He's lost faith in us!"
Virizion looked startled. "W-what?! I…" she stuttered, shocked by this as Cobalion stamped down his hoof. "This doesn't excuse this! We made an agreement to keep this a secret!"
Terrakion stamped down his hoof, trying to make himself look bigger than Cobalion. He was furious now. "WELL, I'M GOING BACK ON THAT STUPID AGREEMENT! WE SHOULD HAVE INVESTIGATED FAIRLY REGARDLESS OF SECRETS! WE ARE THE SWORDS OF JUSTICE FOR GOODNESS SAKE! WE SHOULD ACT IT!"
"Now, you're just talking silly!" Cobalion shot back, displeased by Terrakion's loud words. "Isn't that right, Virizion?"
Virizion shook her head, frowning. "No, Terrakion is right. We need to let go of this secret!" she stated seriously. "The Swords must fight as one, not separate by a little secret!"
This, however, caused Cobalion to snap. "You… two… no, you three… are….." he went, closing his eyes. Suddenly, a large, blue sword made out of pure energy formed around Cobalion's head, as his eyes snapped open.
"YOU ARE ALL TRAITORS!" Cobalion roared in pure fury.
Then, glaring at Terrakion, Cobalion attempts to swing the blue sword, obviously Sacred Sword, at him. Terrakion jumped back to dodge the Sacred Sword and then attacked back with his own Sacred Sword, a glowing orange sword. Cobalion dodged Terrakion's attack, which caused Terrakion to slice a part of the witness stand. Cobalion then proceeded to attack Virizion, who like Terrakion, dodged and produced her own Sword, a glowing green one. Virizion attacked Cobalion who dodged and caused Virizion to slice at the witness stand. This process of Cobalion attacking Terrakion and Virizion continued, as it sped up rapidly as the Swords tried to attack each other, damaging the stand with each attack.
Suddenly, Cobalion slipped up and fell over backwards onto his back dizzy from his failed attacks, with the Sacred Sword still glowing. At this point, the witness stand is just made out of wood cubes. Virizion and Terrakion looked at other and nodded. Using their glowing swords as some kind of spatula, the Meadow Sword and the Cave Sword then proceed to throw Cobalion into the air spinning, with his Sacred Sword still out. Then, suddenly, the Sacred Sword gets caught in the ceiling, suspending Cobalion in mid-air even more dizzy from the spinning.
Then, Terrakion grabs a cube from the sliced witness stand and throws it at Cobalion, which hits him and bounces off to the ground. Then Virizion does the same, throwing it at Cobalion and the wooden cube bouncing off him then to the ground. Suddenly, Terrakion and Virizion begin to pelt Cobalion with these wooden cubes at an extremely fast pace, getting fast and fast at the second. The amount of wooden cubes being thrown at him causes Cobalion to recover himself from his dizziness and focus himself. Unfortunately for him, the Sacred Sword disappears once Cobalion regained himself, and he then proceeded to fall to the floor.
"IIIIIIIIIIIIIIII'M SOOORRRRRRRYYYY KEEEELLLLDDEEE-GRAGJHT!" Cobalion yells out as he fell towards the floor and hitting it, creating a crater in the floor of the courtroom.
"Hmm…" Arceus goes, thinking. "So, that's how it went… Well, what I can say is at least you're being truthful, this time…"
"Yes…" Terrakion stated, now by himself on the stand, which seems to have been magically repaired. "…Cobalion wanted to keep the blackmail a secret because he didn't want to admit to what happened with Keldeo. I'm sorry it turned out this way, your Honor, and….mom…"
Athena heard the emotions of guilt and sadness coming from Keldeo's heart, who did look sad as it is.
Arceus nodded. "I can understand why but hear this." She started, seriously. "I am disappointed in the three of you. Not angry, just…disappointed. Though you only started out with the best of intentions, this blackmail spiral out of control… Honestly, things wouldn't have gotten so insane if you had just admitted your mistake from the start."
An aura of happiness then came from Arceus. "But, I'm glad that you told the Defense team about what happened. At least there is some sense still in the Swords. I think, after this, all four of you just need to talk with each other. That's all. But for now, Terrakion, until the case is over, the Swords are to temporarily disband until further notice."
With that last sentence, Terrakion nodded to agree with this. "I'll make sure to tell Cobalion and Virizion about that."
Suddenly, Taka flew in, landing on Simon's desk. "According to Virizion, Cobalion is stable, from being knocked out. He's woken up but he feels guilty about what happened." He reported from a piece of paper that was in Taka's beak. "Despite the suspicions, Cobalion still insists that he did not tear the pages out. But, because of his accident, he can't remember about the details on Darkrai being able to slip past Cresselia through the shadows or not."
"That's a shame…" Mesprit murmured to herself sadly.
"I have one more thing to report, your Honor." Terrakion remarked calmly. "Celebi is ready to testify now."
Arceus nodded, slamming her gavel down. "That's good to know. Terrakion, please bring in the next witness."
Terrakion said nothing, turning to go get Celebi when suddenly Keldeo called out his name: "Terrakion! Wait!"
The said Cave Sword turned round to look at Keldeo with a confused look. "What is it, kid?" he asked, not sure where this is going. Keldeo, standing tall, looked like he was going to cry.
"Terrakion… I'm sorry…" Keldeo started, sadly. "It's… all my fault… that this blackmail thing happened… If I wasn't being SO STUPID, none of this would have happened! The Swords w-w-wouldn't be disbanded… Cobalion w-wouldn't be in the h-h-hospital b-bed…."
Tears begin to roll down Keldeo's eyes, as he looks down in shame. "I-I-I-It's… my fault…"
"Keldeo, shut up." Terrakion went, looking away from Keldeo. Athena could hear sadness in Terrakion's heart as she caught water dripping down from Terrakion's face. "I don't blame you for what happened with Kyurem. Neither does Virizion and Cobalion. In fact, he went this far for your own sake, Keldeo. Even though he can be a pain in the neck sometimes with his rules and such, and can be arrogant sometimes, Cobalion cares about you way too much, Keldeo. The reason why we didn't go to Arceus when we got the first blackmail letter is that we would have been punished, not you. Cobalion thought, and through some explanation, I and Virizion thought that you would have felt extremely guilty about it. We didn't want that for you, Keldeo. You're family to us…" Terrakion turned his head round, tears more evident but he seems to ignore it.
"Huh… funny. We only did this to avoid you feeling guilty and in pain about what happened with Kyurem. Instead, we caused you even more pain. I'm… sorry Keldeo. I truly am."
And with that, Terrakion proceeds to leave the courtroom, to go get Celebi for her testimony.
HOLD IT!
Keldeo pointed out, with determination at the Cave Sword, who has his back to Keldeo. "Terrakion, I forgive you…But when this is over, let's build the Swords of Justice up harder than ever!"
Terrakion turned around and grinned. "That sounds nice, kid. Let's do that! Let there be no secrets left as the Swords of Justice find the truth!"

Yeah… it's been WAY too long since this has been updated. Last update being in July 2015 to currently February 2016. I want to apologize for the large delay, as we both kind of hit a roadblock with the fic a bit after the previous chapter, and both DragonNiro and I went to focus on our other stories for a while (he with some of his Ace Attorney stories and I with Story of Smashers and Conquering the Dark). It's almost surreal in how long this fic hasn't been updated, and I really do regret that we didn't update it in so long. Regardless, the next chapter is here, and I want to thank you all for your patience. Hopefully, we don't take so long in writing the next chapter.
