Hi everyone! I'm sorry the update on this story has been a long time coming, but I hope this update makes up for it. I kind of lost inspiration for this story, but I was reading through it yesterday and I realized I needed to continue. I apologize for the long wait. I hope you like it!

Logan watched as Eva's brow furrowed in confusion. "What do you mean, you can't remember anything?" She asked.

Logan took a deep breath before he told her everything. The alternate future, where Sentinels had all but wiped out the mutant race. Being sent back to help the Professor and Magneto try to alter the events of the future and stop Sentinels from ever rising to power. How suddenly, he had woken up in a different timeline, with no recollection of anything that had happened to him since the 1970s. She remained silent throughout his story, only interrupting to ask a question from time to time. When Logan had finished, he looked at her to gauge her reaction. To see if she believed him.

Eva sat quietly, looking down at her hands and refusing to meet his eyes. Her face was a mask of calmness, betraying nothing of what she was feeling or thinking after his revelation. The only tell was that she was fiddling her thumbs. She only did that when she was extremely worried or nervous. He wanted desperately to reach out to her and assuage any of the fears that must have been swirling through her head, but he knew if he moved to quickly, she might retreat from him, even more than she might have already.

"Eva, please say something." He begged, kneeling down in front of her and daring to take her hands in his. She didn't pull away at his touch. A good sign.

"You don't remember anything at all?" She finally whispered.

"Some of my memory has come back, but not all of it." He told her simply, not wanting to overload her with any more information.

Another excruciatingly long minute of silence.

"Do you still love me?" She suddenly asked, looking up at him. Her eyes brimmed with tears, threatening to spill. Logan wanted to keep them from falling, but he knew it was inevitable. Before he could respond, she stood, almost knocking him backwards as she walked towards the window. "If you can't remember anything, then you can't remember me. Do you remember anything about us?" She demanded, her voice cracking on the last few words as she rested her hands on the windowsill, leaning heavily on it as her head dropped. Logan heard her take a few shaking breaths as he got up slowly and walked over to her, resting his hands on her waist. He kissed her neck gently, feeling a shudder go through her body at his touch.

"I remember when I first met you." He whispered against her skin. "And our wedding. You looked stunning. And how when Remy broke his nose falling out of his chair because he was so drunk, you laughed so hard champagne came out your nose." He told her. "I remember our first actual fight, and the moment you finally agreed to go on a date with me."

"The puppy was a nice touch." She whispered.

"Even though the Professor made us give it away to a student's family." He chuckled. He moved closer to her, moving his hands up to her shoulders. She leaned into his touch as he continued, resting his chin on her shoulder.

"I know how you hate it when I bring food into our room because you say it attracts bugs, even though I know you keep a stash of granola bars in your nightstand when you get hungry in the middle of the night."

"At least I don't eat them in bed." She retorted, her shoulders beginning to relax.

He smiled, pressing his lips to her ear. "I know how you love it when I take charge, and I remember the first time we spent the night together." He whispered. He felt another shudder run up her spine at his words, making him smile. He turned her around gently, seeing the tear tracks on her cheeks shine faintly in the moonlight.

He took her hands, looking down at them as he continued. "Eva, I can't remember every second of our time spent together, but I know that when I first saw you walk into the mansion, my whole world stopped. It was love at first sight. For me, at least." He smiled, giving her a knowing look. "I knew I wanted to marry you. You became my world at that moment. It kills me that I can't remember everything. But I promise you, you still own my heart." He told her, bringing her hands up to his lips to kiss them. "I want to get to know you again. The more time I spend with you, the more I start to remember."

She didn't sat anything, but stepped closer to him. He wrapped his arms around her and kissed the top of her head.

"I'm sorry I tried to jump your bones a few months ago." She finally murmured. "I didn't know you didn't remember."

He laughed quietly and hugged her tighter. "Trust me, I wanted to. You're sexy as hell. But I just thought we should wait for more of my memories to come back before we did that."

"Probably the best idea." She nodded, looking up at him.

He nodded, kissing her softly. "I love you." He whispered against her lips.

"I love you too. So much." She whispered back, kissing him before looking at the clock. "We should probably get to bed. We have an early start tomorrow. Fiona and John are coming over at eight."

Logan followed her gaze to the electric clock on the nightstand. 2:45. He nodded, each of them walking over to their own sides of the bed and climbing under the covers. Eva laid on her side with her back to Logan, facing the window. Logan stared at her for a few moments before pulling her to him, wrapping his arms around her. She scooted towards him, pressing her back against his front and resting her head on his arm.

Thirty minutes later, Logan was still wide awake, listening to Eva's steady breathing. How much had he hurt her? He knew telling her was the best. They could start to work past it and become more comfortable with each other. But would that really help? Would things just get worse between them? He kicked himself mentally, thinking of the worst-case scenario. Things could get so bad between them that they could divorce, and he could lose one of the only good things that had come into his life.

He wouldn't lose Eva. He refused to.

When Logan woke up the next morning, Eva was gone, her side of the bed already cold. She must have woken up long before him. Just as Logan was about to get out of bed, Eva walked into the room, wearing workout clothes with her hair piled on top of her head.

"Look who's finally awake." Eva said, setting her stuff on the dresser.

"What time is it?"

"About eight."

"It's not that late." He protested.

"Look at the clock." She countered. "John and Fiona are going to be here in fifteen minutes, Mr. 'It-takes-ten-to-get-my-hair-perfectly-messy'." She told him, stripping off her tank top and tossing it in the corner of the room.

"I don't style my hair." Logan said, his protest weak as his eyes drew to the flat planes of Eva's stomach.

"Sure you don't."

He grumbled and stood, walking over to her and giving her a kiss on the cheek before walking into the bathroom. "Do you need to shower?" He asked as he turned on the water.

"I'll take one later tonight." Without another word, she pulled on a pair of slacks and a blouse and left the room.

Logan frowned, sensing that something was wrong with Eva. She was never that quiet. Logan could understand if she was nervous about the discovery that the bill on Capitol Hill had been proposed by her own son, but he knew it was something more than that. His revelation last night had disturbed her, and he knew she was scared. She wouldn't even look him in the eye when he spoke to her. She flinched slightly whenever he had touched her. The movement was almost nonexistent, but he could detect it. He wasn't sure if even she knew she was doing it.

After taking a quick shower and pulling on his usual outfit of a t-shirt and jeans, he walked out into the living room, finding the team already assembled around the large dining table. They were embroiled in a debate, so he entered unnoticed, sitting down in one of the chairs at the long table.

"We need to contact Senator Gordon and have a meeting with him about this bill. He's been on the fence about mutant rights issues in the past, and I know he has a niece who's a mutant. Thank you, Remy." Eva said, taking the mug of coffee he handed her. "There's also Representative Marshall and Representative Callaghan."

"What about Senator Park? He has a lot of influence over his party in the Senate. If he can get them to sway to our side, they can shoot down this bill." John proposed.

"Senator Park is in the same party as Senator Malone. If the party is split, there's no point in even trying if the Republicans band together and vote to pass the bill, and you know they will. Those old men are afraid of anything that isn't the color of milk." Fiona growled.

Two sides of the same coin, John and Fiona were a set of twins you did not want to tangle with willingly. Even though John was a mutant and Fiona was not, they were equally as deadly. John could shoot a fly three-hundred yards away with his enhanced eyesight. Couple that with heightened senses and combat skill, his body alone was a weapon.

Fiona had another gift going for her. She was bewitchingly beautiful, with flawless, mahogany skin and thick, black hair. Logan had always thought her beauty was her mutation, which assisted her in persuasion. She didn't need to say much to get politicians eating out of her palm of her hand.

"Keep me away from Senator Park. I just can't keep a straight face at his accent." Eva sighed.

"He's from northern Wisconsin, what do you expect?" Scott frowned.

"Not for him to sound like he's from Canada."

"What's wrong with Canada?" Logan piped up.

"I'm not having his conversation now." Eva frowned, holding up her hand in his general direction. "Fiona, can you set up a dinner for the Senators and Representatives? Try to get the majority and minority whips of both houses."

"What about Senator Malone?" John questioned.

"I'll deal with him later." Eva frowned. "Don't invite him. He'll just try to sway his party members to his side. We need to stay focused on one side. Our side."

"Well, what if we—

"Jean, if I wanted your opinion, I would have asked for it." Eva snapped, glaring at her when she tried to voice her opinion. "And I don't believe I asked for it."

"She's just trying to help, Eva." Scott frowned, straightening in his chair.

"She doesn't know anything about politics on Capitol Hill. Fiona, John and I do. So, if you would just try to keep your perfectly turned-up nose out of our business and not take over what you don't know how to manage, that would be great." Eva said scathingly, snapping the portfolio in front of her shut before glaring at Jean.

"Eva." Logan said sharply, standing from his chair to walk over to her.

"What crawled up your ass?" Rogue demanded.

"I'm just stressed about this bill, okay? We need to work as hard as we can to stop it, and that means our A game."

"Why is this bothering you so badly?" Rogue frowned.

"Because all these kids are going to be tested from birth, to see if they're mutants. It's an amendment in the bill, that no one else seemed to notice. Then when they reach five, they're going to be forcibly removed from their families and sent to schools where there'll be people who don't care about them and if they're well taken care of. They probably think that 'educating' them is suppressing their abilities instead of teaching them how to use them properly. They'll be even more of a danger not just to non-mutants but to themselves. It's Striker all over again, and no one in this godforsaken government sees that!" Eva yelled, collapsing against the back of her chair.

Everyone stayed silent, their breaths held, watching Eva carefully as she pressed her hand to her forehead. The only sound in the room was Eva's shaky breaths, deep and long as she tried to calm herself. It was very rare that Eva lost her temper, and when she did, it usually didn't end well. The last time it happened, they had to shut down the Danger Room for a month to repair the damages, and Colossus had been in the infirmary for two weeks.

Before Logan could move across the room toward her, the phone of the room rang suddenly, making everyone gathered jump, the tension in the room snapping like a rubber band.

"I've got it." Eva said, standing and answering the phone. "Hello? Yes, this is she."

"Who is it?" Logan asked, walking towards her. She waved a hand at him to be quiet.

"We're not expecting any visitors. Who are they?" Eva asked, a look of shock crossing her face after a few moments as the receptionist explained. "Yes, send them up." She frowned, almost slamming down the receiver when she was finished. "Some of the students are here."

"Students?" Professor X frowned.

"How did they get here?" Rogue demanded.

"Which ones?" Logan questioned.

"Yes, our students, I don't know how they got here, and I don't know which ones or how many. They just told the receptionist they were from the school." Eva explained.

"We have to send whoever they are back. They shouldn't be here." Rogue said.

"No, Rogue, I was just planning on letting them stay here with us." Eva said sarcastically, beginning to pace.

"Eva—

"Don't." She whispered, cutting Logan off as he moved towards her. "I need space." She skirted past him, moving back to her original chair and sinking down with a weary sigh. Logan had a sickening feeling she wasn't just talking about for the next few minutes.

"Would you like help, Eva?" Professor X offered, rolling up to her chair.

"No, I'm fine. I can handle it." She said through gritted teeth. Logan saw her hand gripping the armrest of the chair tightly, the tendons standing stark white through her olive skin as she fought to rein in the force of her powers threatening to break through.

Professor X caught Logan's eyes over her head, giving him a knowing look before rolling into one of the spare bedrooms. "I'll get you something to drink." He offered.

A knock on the door sounded a few minutes later. Logan stood to open it, standing aside so the kids could file in. Marcus, Ashley, Tyler, Avery, and Jessica. Logan closed the door behind them, walking to stand behind where Eva was sitting. He could feel the anger rolling off of her in waves and took a few steps back just to be safe.

"What do you think you're doing?" Eva asked through gritted teeth.

"We came to help." Ashley said, looking down at her feet when she saw the anger flashing in Eva's eyes.

"You're not needed here. You're getting on the first flight back to New York." Eva told them.

"We're the oldest students at the school. We can help."

"No. You're going back to the school."

"You can't treat us like children. We're all eighteen." Jessica protested.

"This isn't up for discussion." Rogue frowned.

"What, because it's too dangerous?" Marcus scoffed.

Rogue suddenly grabbed Eva's arm and squeezed hard, making the golden-eyed mutant whip around and glare at her. "What?" Eva snapped.

"You're giving me a headache again." Rogue whispered.

"Oh. Sorry." Eva said, taking a deep breath. Logan walked forward and rested his hands on her shoulders, kneading them to try to calm her down. She didn't flinch away from his touch, or try to shrug off his hands. Was that a good sign? Or was she just too focused on controlling herself to even notice his touch?

"Whatever decision or disciplinary action is made should be left to Professor Xavier. He's the headmaster." Jean announced. Logan swore the look Eva gave her should have melted the flesh off of her bones. Miraculously, Jean did not melt into a puddle of goo, only giving Eva a cool look in response.

"Fine." Eva said curtly, standing, making Logan's hands drop from her shoulders. "Professor, I leave this in your hands. I need to make some phone calls." Eva told the room before walking into her and Logan's bedroom.

Everyone looked to Logan as she left, expecting him to bring her back, probably. He simply shrugged. "Better to go in there with a verdict and calm her down than have her get riled up again." He told them.

Professor X nodded and looked to the students. "Well, though you did break school rules by leaving the grounds without teacher supervision, I believe you all should be allowed to stay. As you said, you are the oldest students at the school. But, there is one condition. You must listen to us and do exactly as we say. Though you may not believe it, it is dangerous for people such as ourselves. Do you understand?"

They all nodded, smiling. With that, Logan went to his and Eva's room, entering quietly. Eva was on the phone, looking over when Logan came in before looking back down at the sheet of paper in front of her. Logan sat down on the edge of the bed and watched her as she began to pace back and forth.

"Yes, two more rooms on this floor. Just put it on the card you have on file. Eva Vasquez. Yes, everyone in the new rooms is eighteen or over. Okay, just call this room when the other rooms are ready. Yes, please bring the keys here. Thank you. Bye." Eva said, finally hanging up the phone. "I guessed the Professor would let them stay."

"You don't guess." Logan pointed out.

"You're right. Professor X had already made up his mind. I just had to read it." She said, smiling slightly before sitting down on the bed next to him. "We need to call the school and let them know what happened, and we need to figure out what the kids will be doing while they're here. Ashley and Marcus will be good for courier jobs, they're fast and not distracted easily. Avery and Tyler might like to work with Fiona and John at their office, they both want to go into politics, and Jessica—"

"Eva." Logan said, resting a hand on her leg to stop her. "It'll work out. Stop worrying."

"Easy for you to say. You don't worry about anything."

"I worry about a lot of things. I just don't show it."

"Must be nice." She muttered, burying her face in her hands.

"I mainly worry about you. Us, now. Eva, I know you said you were fine, but—

"I just need to get used to this, James. I love you, I really do, but I just need to adjust to… to you not remembering anything. I'm not going to be fine overnight. It's just something I need to get used to." She told him, standing and starting to pace in front of him. "We need to get to know each other again."

"You shouldn't have to get used to this."

Before she could say anything else, her cell phone rang shrilly in her pocket. She extracted it with a frown. "Hello? Yes, this is she." She looked back to Logan. "No, I'm not busy." She said, leaving the room.

He couldn't help but a feel a flash of anger. They were having a conversation, and she had run. The only other time that had happened was earlier in their relationship, when she had been too afraid to agree to a date until she knew she wouldn't hurt him. She had run to avoid him even asking the question, or avoid talking about why. She pushed him away then, and she was starting to push him away now.

He would be damned before he let that happen.
