Shay turned over and reached for Lindsay, she frowned when she felt noting but coldness.
Severide turned as he heard footsteps coming down the stairs; he frowned when he saw the broken look across Shay's face.
"She left huh?" he asked as he took a sip of coffee.
Shay just nodded as she sank into the chair across from him.
"So go see her," Severide insisted as he patted Shay's shoulder as he grabbed his gym bag and bolted for the door.
Shay pulled her jacket tighter around her as she looked up at the police station, she knew Lindsay might be here and she knew she had to talk to her.
"Hey," Pratt nodded as Shay entered.
"Is she here?" Shay asked her voice cracking at the end.
Pratt gave her a sad look as she shook her head no.
Shay knew she needed to talk to someone and maybe that someone was Voight.
"Can you?" Shay asked as she pointed towards the gate.
Pratt gave her a tight smile as she buzzed her in.
Shay threw thanks over her shoulder as she went up the stairs.
Shay nodded towards Halstead who looked up as she walked passes him.
"Shay wait," he called but she ignored him as she stormed into Voight's office.
Voight looked up as he set aside the paperwork he was working on.
"You need to pull her off this case," Shay all but shouted at him.
Voight motioned for her to sit down as he got up and shut the door.
"Do you really think she would walk away if I asked her nicely?" Voight shot back.
"This case is destroying her," Shay snapped.
"You don't think I know that!" Voight shouted causing Shay to jump.
Shay looked away as a tear fell from her eye, "I just love her so much."
Voight's eyes softened at her tone, "I know you do so do I."
Shay looked up and smiled, "so you see what this is doing to her?"
Voight looked out the window as he avoided Shay's eyes, "we are cops it's our job to catch the bad guys no matter the cost."
Shay's mouth dropped open, "the cost is going to be Erin!" she shouted as she stood up.
Voight turned around fire in his eyes, "I won't let that happen."
"How can you be sure it won't?"
"She's everything to me too!" Voight shouted as he threw the files across the room.
Halstead stepped into the room, "Shay a moment," he said gently as he nodded towards his obviously distraught boss.
Shay just nodded as she cast one more look at Voight before following Halstead to the break room.
"Coffee?" he asked as he poured himself a glass.
Shay shook her head no as she slumped down in the chair opposite the one Halstead just sat in.
"Look I know you're worried but we won't let anything happen to her," Halstead said as he took a sip of coffee.
"She keeps disappearing," Shay said sadly.
"She's just doing her job," Halstead assured her.
"I know I just wish she would let me in!" Shay shouted in frustration.
Halstead gave her a tight smile, "I promise I will keep her safe."
"Thanks," Shay whispered as she stood up and walked out the door.
Halstead watched her go as his heart broke for the paramedic.
Lindsay took a sip of her beer as she went through more surveillance videos.
Shay's hand shook as she knocked lightly on the door, she waited for a while before trying the door and finding it unlocked. Her eyes tried to adjust to the darkness as she entered the apartment. She frowned as she saw bottles of beer and takeout boxes scattered about, she nearly cried when she saw Lindsay passed out on the table.
She gently shook her, "Erin?" she asked gently.
Lindsay shot up as if she had been burned; she calmed down when she saw the scared look on Shay's face.
"Leslie? What are you doing here? What time is it?" Lindsay asked as she took another swig from her beer as she rubbed her eyes.
"What the hell are you doing?" Shay asked her voice breaking at the end as a sob escaped.
"I'm trying to solve a case," Lindsay snapped as she threw the empty bottle on the floor and walked towards the fridge.
"You're scaring me," Shay said to Lindsay's retreating back.
"I'm sorry but this case is bigger than anything we have going on right now," Lindsay mumbled as she slammed the fridge shut when she realized there was no beer.
"Are you kidding me right now!? Shay screamed at her girlfriend as Lindsay slumped back down into the chair she had previously occupied.
Lindsay jumped as she looked up into the angry and worried eyes of her girlfriend.
"I'm sorry Shay," she mumbled as she rubbed her eyes.
"Just please let me in," Shay pleaded as she pulled a crying Lindsay into her arms and held her tight.
Lindsay clung to Shay as tears racked her body.
"Shh its okay, I'm here," Shay whispered as she kissed the top of Lindsay's head.
"I love you," Lindsay mumbled into Shay's chest.
Shay smiled, "I love you too."
"This case is really dangerous. I don't want anything to happen to you," Lindsay said as she pulled away.
Shay wiped her eyes, "likewise."
"I mean it Shay, if he ever finds out who I love, he will go after them."
"I will be careful," Shay promised her.
Lindsay stood up and straitened her clothes, "have you eaten?"
Shay just shook her head no as she watched her girlfriend head to the kitchen.
"I will make something," Lindsay said as her voice cracked.
Shay wrapped her arms around her from behind, "how about a shower? You kind of smell."
Lindsay laughed as she turned in her arms and kissed her girlfriend deeply.
"Shower it is then," she said as she pulled Shay towards the bathroom with her.
"Are you feeling any better?" Shay asked as she pulled Lindsay closer to her as they lay in bed.
"It make take some time but I'm getting there," Lindsay replied as she laid her head on Shay's chest.
"I promise I'm not going anywhere," Shay whispered as she kissed her forehead.
"Please don't," Lindsay said as she closed her eyes.
"Never," Shay replied as she pulled her closer.
