GROWL
Closing my eyes, I took a deep breath. Letting it out slowly, I opened my eyes, meeting face to face with the very dangerous animal in front of me. I meet the gaze of the ferocious beast, holding back the flinch my body instinctively did at the harsh gaze I was met with. I still held my ground though. He didn't like that at all. The wolf let out another growl, this one a warning to back down and leave.
I didn't. I keep eye contact letting him now he didn't scare me. A gleam of slight curiosity flashed in his eyes, disappearing though, as quickly as it came. Huh...interesting.
I keep my gaze fixed with his as I spoke. "I'm not here to hurt you."
The wolf let a noise slip through his mussel. The sound made it seem he didn't know what to think about me, a human who was not running in fear way from him, but still wasn't going to let guard down yet.
"I heard you and I'm here to help." I finished what I was saying still trying to convince him I meant no harm. He looked at me for a brief moment before a cry of pain was let out behind the beast. I looked around the wolf with the flashlight, shining it let me see another wolf, one very injured. The wolf in front of me, seeing me looking at his friend, quickly snarled and stepped further into my view, blocking the other from me. The wolf crouched down, more than ready to charge, no warning needed this time.
I looked the wolf in the eyes yet again as he stood there in front of me. Turning my head to the side, I studied his expression not just in his face but in his eyes. Seeing what I was looking for I nodded my head to myself before speaking to him. "I can help." He stopped before lunging at me, scanning me with calculating eyes, wondering what I was up to.
Taking a breath I continued to explain. "I'm a doctor; I can help your friend." Motioning towards said wolf with my head.
The wolf in front of me was shocked at my proposal, but was more untrusting then anything else. "I mean no harm." I said, taking the shotgun I still held and lifting it up into the air, causing him to growl deeply before I threw it away in the brush nearby. I then put my hands up in the air after setting the flashlight down. " I just want to help, I promise." The wolf watched me, studying me, looking to see if I was lying. "If he doesn't get help soon, he will die." I said more sternly and serious this time, I only had so big of a time frame to work with with injuries like the other wolf had. The one standing before me looked at me one more time before nodding his head and stepping to the side, clearing a way for me to reach his friend. I hurriedly rushed to the wounded wolf's side, grabbing the flashlight as I went, and started examining him immediately. He was covered in blood from head to toe, his breathing labored, and multiple cuts big and small littered his body. There was much more damage done inside though, broken ribs, fractured bones in his legs, no doubt internal bleeding as well. I needed to get him back to my house fast or else. I needed to get him there, but he was too cut up for me to just pick up and carry him there. Thinking quickly, an idea formed in my head, one that seemed good enough for the moment. Looking around, I spotted a good sized branch not that far up on a tree, grabbing it I started to break it off. Once I had done this, I took my jacket off, it reached to my calves when worn so it should mostly cover him. Tying the sleeves on either end of the branch, I then worked my way over to the wolf. Laying my contraption down, I proceeded to move the wolf onto the makeshift stretcher, buttoning one of the buttons towards his middle to hold him in place. Once he was on and situated, I looked towards the other wolf who was sitting a little ways off, watching me the whole time with calculating eyes.
"We need to get him to my house; I can heal him up there." I explained before pausing and looking him over quickly. "And you too." He seemed shocked that I had caught on to his own injuries that he had been hiding. "I'm a doctor dear; I've learned to read people quickly." I smiled softly towards him before bending down and picking up the head of the 'stretcher'. Pulling the hurt wolf along with me, the original wolf limped besides me as we began the trek to my house.
