Interlude

Summers were awful. Especially mind numbingly scorching summers that left Yusuke with absolutely nothing to do. He couldn't even visit Keiko because her parents had her helping in their restaurant today. It was almost enough to make him miss school.

Almost.

Maybe I could hit up the arcade?

But that thought held no appeal for Yusuke. He'd already been to the arcade every day that week. Games could only hold their appeal for so long before they started to get boring.

He shoved his hands deep in his pockets and scowled fiercely, wishing desperately that he had something, anything, to do. Yusuke barely noticed the way other pedestrians on the street flinched away from him and his dark expression.

Raucous laughter cut through the air, catching Yusuke's attention. Looking ahead across the intersection, he saw Kuwabara and his group of sycophants laughing about something. Kuwabara lightly shoved the chubby one in a companionable gesture, and witnessing their good mood somehow made Yusuke's mood ten times worse.

Then Kuwabara caught sight of Yusuke, and his smile disappeared. Yusuke smirked. "Hey, Kuwabara, you're just in time. I was hoping I'd find a punching bag today."

I'll be brief; not dead, not abandoned. Also of note, I've changed my pen name from sycoandcrazy-inc to Ink Outside the Lines (Ink for short).

I'm still struggling with writing more of this story from Kuwabara's POV, hence this interlude from Yusuke's POV. Several of you offered ideas for what I might be able to do with this story going on, and I thank you for the suggestions. I may use some of them, if I can think of a way to fit them into the story in a way I'm satisfied with. Thanks for hanging on with me while I work on this!
