A/N : Super short first chapter, but here you go!

Chapter 1

"Miss Swan, you're free to go. Your boyfriend sent in a letter confessing to the frame job." The warden of the phoenix correctional facility told her. "We want to offer you our sincerest apologies for the mistake of the police department. Our lawyers would also like to offer you a settlement. It should be enough for a down payment on a house somewhere. I wish you the best of luck and congratulations on the baby."

Emma Swan got in the yellow bug that Neal left her and began driving, she had been driving on and off for a few days now, that is until she stumbled upon a little town in Maine.

"Storybrooke. Huh? What d'ya think kid? Sound good to you?" She drove past the sign and eventually found a diner, she pulled up.

Emma walked in and the little bell above the door rung. The waitress spun around and saw her. "Be with you in a second hun. Sit anywhere." Emma nodded and sat up at the counter- next to a woman with a pixie cut- a few minutes later the waitress came up to her. "The name's Ruby. What can I get you?"

"Grilled cheese with onion rings. Oh, and some hot chocolate with cinnamon too."

Ruby smirked and glanced at the woman sitting next to Emma. "Cinnamon huh?"

Emma smiled at the restaurant. "Yeah." She chucked. "Little quirk of mine, I suppose."

"Me too." The woman chimed in. "I'm Mary Margaret."

Emma held her hand out. "I'm Emma."

Emma was asleep in her bug when the woman from the diner- Mary Margaret- knocked on her window, waking her up. Emma rolled down her window. "Hey. Mary Margaret, right?"

"Yeah… Sweetie, are you living here?" Emma nodded sheepishly. "Why don't you stay at the B&B? It's not too pricey."

Emma sighed, she could easily lie to her, but she didn't want to for some reason. "Because… I don't have a fake ID." She mumbled.

"How old are you honey?"

She sighed once again. "16… I'm emancipated though." Okay… that last part was a lie, but oh well.

"Look, there's an extra room at my place- though it's more like a loft- it's not much, but it's gotta be better than sleeping in your car."

Emma looked into her eyes, the woman seemed to be sincere. "That's really nice of you, but you don't need some knocked up teenager staying with you." She said looking down.

"I think it'd be nice not to be alone all the time. What do you say Emma?" She reluctantly nodded. "How far along are you?"

Emma sighed. "2 months. Are you sure Mary Margaret?"

"Absolutely. Let's go sweetie."

Emma had been staying with Mary Margaret for about a few weeks now. Emma was sitting at the kitchen island eating when her roommate came up to her with a big envelope. "What's that?"

Mary Margaret handed it to Emma. "See for yourself."

Emma read it and saw that it was foster parent license and a letter of approval to be Emma's foster mother. Emma grimaced. "How did you-?"

"You lied to me Emma. You told me you were emancipated." She sounded disappointed.

Emma looked up. "I thought that you'd call social services. I'm sorry Mare." She said. "But… you don't wanna turn me in at all? You want me to stay?"

Mary Margaret sat next to the teenager. "Yes Emma, I do. Although, I'd appreciate it if you didn't lie to me anymore."

Emma nodded. "How'd you find out anyway?" She asked.

"The internship you applied for at the sheriff's station. Sheriff Nolan did a background check and got your file. He called me and gave me a two-week heads up- before he had to notify Mayor Mills- and he helped me speed up the process."

"So, I'm guessing I'm no longer eligible for the internship?" Mary Margaret shook her head and Emma sighed. "What about that position at Granny's? Can I keep my job there?"

"You can if you want." Mary told her. "But I don't want you paying rent anymore. I didn't want you to do it in the first place."

Emma sighed. "Fine."
