Chapter 4: Miracle in the battlefield
They had just come back from the Chamber of Secrets and were going down the grand staircase looking for Harry. They found him there, fighting a death eater. He looked at them.
"Hermione... She stabbed the cup. She was amazing!" Ron said as Hermione blushed.
"We brought more fangs. We thought they would be useful to destroy the remaining horcru..." She said as she ran a hand through her stomach and bent over in pain. She grabbed Ron's arm. He looked at her, worried, and held her.
"Ron... It's Belle... I think... She's coming." She said, breathing heavily and looking down to the floor where her water has broken.
"Bloody hell!" Ron exclaimed, then he put his hands on her cheeks and kissed her on the lips passionately.
"Seriously, guys, your timing surely is the best." Harry sarcastically exclaimed.
They broke the kiss and Hermione let out a scream. "I'm taking her to the Hospital Wing." Ron said. Harry nodded. By some sort of magic, between people running, hexes and curses flying around like lasers, and Hermione's screams of pain, the young couple made it to the hospital wing where Madame Pomfrey was tending a young boy.
"Help! She's having a baby!" Ron shouted as they walked in. Madame Pomfrey went to them. "Merlin, Mr Weasley! Come, come! Let's put Miss Granger on a bed." She said helping Ron take Hermione to the nearest bed. "Alright, dear, let's see how far along you are." Madame Pomfrey said. She checked. "OK... You're quite ready. Seems the little one is eager to fight too. So, Miss Granger, I need you to start pushing." She said later.
Hermione looked at Ron. He could see she was scared. He was scared too. In fact, he was frightened by the whole situation. But he wasn't going to let her see that. He was going to take out the Gryffindor inside him and be strong enough for both of them. He held her hand tight in his and nodded.
"You can do this. You could stab that cup, you can do this too." He said. She nodded and started pushing. A while later, she laid down, panting. Still no baby. She pushed again, harder, and then stopped. Still no baby.
"You're doing great, Miss Granger. Just breathe." Madame Pomfrey said as she looked under the covers. Hermione was extremely tired and in extreme pain. She didn't think she could resist any longer. Contractions were closer and closer and they were more painful than the previous one. She pushed in each of them, screaming louder and louder from the pain. Then, she rested her head on her pillow, but no baby went out.
"I can see the head! Now I need you to give me one big push and that baby of yours will be out." Madame Pomfrey ordered.
Hermione shook her head crying hysterical. "I... I can't... I can't do it." She cried.
Ron ran a hand through her forehead, trying to take the hair off her eyes. "Of course you can, love. You are the most incredible person in this entire world. There's absolutely nothing my Hermione can't do." He said as she shook her head vigorously.
"It hurts too much!" she cried.
"I know. But just one more push and you'll be a mom." Ron said, smiling a bit.
"I... I don't know... I won't be good..." She said, tears running fast through her cheeks.
"Yes, you will. You'll learn how. We'll learn how." He said, speaking calmly though he was terrified. "We're in this together, love, until the very end." He said, then he kissed her forehead.
"I'm... I'm too tired to..." she cried.
"Miss Granger, I need you to push now." Madame Pomfrey interrupted urgently. Ron looked at her in the eyes.
"Hermione, you need to do this. I need you to do this. SHE needs you to do this." He said as he rubbed her stomach.
Hermione took a deep breath. She sat up, grabbed Ron's hand tightly and push with all the strength she had. After some minutes, she laid her head on the pillow, exhausted. They heard a very strong, high-pitched screech. Their baby's cry.
"Here she is! You have a beautiful baby girl!" Madame Pomfrey announced as she held the screaming baby. She grabbed her wand and cleaned the baby, then she wrapped the little one in a blanket. "She's quite small for a newborn but she has a strong pair of lungs." She said as she handed the tiny bundle to Hermione. In that moment, the little baby stopped her crying and just opened her eyes. Her big brown eyes, as Ron noticed, just like her mother's ones. Her reddish hair told the world that there was no doubt that she was a Weasley. Hermione was crying of joy. She couldn't believe her and Ron had created such a beautiful little girl.
"She's so beautiful, Ron." She said, smiling. Ron smiled.
"Just like her mommy. And I bet anything that she'll be as smart and bookish as her too." He said, smiling. Hermione laughed a bit and sniffed. Ron kissed her head.
"I'm so proud of you, Mione." he whispered in her ear. She just rested her head on his shoulder and looked at their baby. He caressed the baby's tiny hand with his finger. The baby grabbed it strongly.
"So... Any names or do we call her 'Baby Granger-Weasley'?" Madame Pomfrey asked.
Hermione and Ron couldn't keep their eyes off the baby.
"Belle. Her name's Belle." Hermione just said as she kissed her daughter's head.
"Welcome to the world, Belle Granger-Weasley." Madame Pomfrey said, smiling.
Just like that, in the middle of the battle between good and evil, a miracle happened. A tiny little girl brought peace and hope to the young couple that was holding her.
