Chapter 5: Baby's first magic
It happened one summer afternoon when everybody but Ron and Hermione were out of the house. Hermione was in the kitchen of The Burrow heating a baby bottle. Although she was still breastfeeding, she and Ron had decided to alternate between that and baby bottles so he could have a chance to bond with his daughter in the meal times. Plus, it gave Hermione more time to rest. When the bottle was ready, she tested it and placed it on the counter. With a flick of her wand, she turned off the stove and cleaned the jug. As she was directing the jug towards the cupboard, she saw the baby bottle levitating right in front of her eyes. She frowned. "You couldn't come and pick it up yourself, could you?" she yelled upstairs, annoyed. The bottle flew away. She followed it upstairs to Ron's room where the white basinet was placed next to the bed. The bottle stopped right above it, placing the tip into the little baby's mouth. Hermione went to the baby. "Well, you sure are hungry, sweetheart." she said, smiling at the three-month-old baby girl laying there. The baby just looked at her and drank.
"You said something, love?" Ron asked, walking in the room as he dried his red hair with a towel. Hermione looked at him.
"You could have come down the stairs to get her bottle, or at least wait for me to tell you it was ready. You can't be that lazy to just summon it and place it in your daughter's mouth, Ronald." she said with her hands on her hips. Obviously, she was annoyed.
Ron looked at her, confused. Last time he checked, Belle was still asleep in her cot. "I didn't even know she was awake, Mione. I was in the shower." he said.
"So you're telling me that you didn't levitate that baby bottle from the kitchen and bring it here." she said, looking at him in disbelief. He looked at her in the eye and shook his head. She looked back. She could see he looked clueless about what just happened. She looked at the baby, then back at him, and by the surprised look on her face, he realized that something had happened. "So... if you didn't do it, and obviously I didn't do it... and we're the only ones in the house now, then..." she said, putting two and two together. They both looked at the baby. The bottle was now levitating inches away from her mouth and she was giggling. It was her first real giggle.
"Bloody hell!" Ron exclaimed as Hermione glared at him.
"Language, Ronald!" she scolded him as she picked up their daughter from her cot.
"Well," Ron said, smiling. "one thing is certain: she's definitely YOUR daughter." he added
