Chapter 9: News
She looked at the stick between shocked and surprised. She had been so careful ever since Belle had turned 6 months and yet it happened again. She knew when and why. It was the day they had gotten engaged, and they had been so happy and so eager to celebrate that, as soon as the baby was asleep, they headed straight to their bedroom and made love sweetly but passionately the whole night. They had been so caught up in the moment that she had totally forgot to cast the contraception spell or drink a potion.
There was a knock on the bathroom's door. "Mommy?" she heard a little voice ask from the other side of the door. Hermione just looked at the stick in her hand, still trying to assimilate the result that it was showing her.
"Mommy!" she heard again. She opened the door and looked at her 2-year-old daughter's big brown eyes staring at her.
"Yes, Belle?" she asked the little girl.
Belle smiled and showed her the book she had in her hands. "Stowy, mommy." she asked as she handed the book to her mom. Hermione sighed.
"OK. Go wait in your room and I'll be right there with you, sweetheart." Hermione told her. Belle ran to her room. Hermione sighed and threw the stick in the bin. Then, she went to her daughter's room.
Later that night, as Ron was putting Belle down in her room, he heard a weird noise coming from the bathroom. He tucked Belle in in her bed and left the room.
"Mione? You alright?" he asked as he opened the bathroom's door. Hermione was bent over to the toilet, throwing up everything she had eaten that day. She looked at him. She looked exhausted.
"I'm fine, Ron. Just..." she started as she sat on the floor. He went and sat next to her. He wrapped one arm around her shoulders.
"just what, love? It's not the first time you've been sick. You've been like this almost every day for the past two weeks." he said as she laid her head on his shoulder. "you said it was just a bug, but you didn't get any better after taking that potion the other day. Maybe it's time to go to St. Mungo's and see what's really wrong with you." he continued. He seemed truly worried about her condition.
"There's nothing wrong with me, Ron. I just..." she started, looking down at her hands. He tilted her face making her to look at him.
"Just...?" he asked looking at her with those blue eyes that always made her lose her train of thoughts.
"I think..." she started, then she took a deep breath. "I think I'm pregnant." she finally said. He stared at her for a while, then he looked at her stomach and back at her.
"you... you... you are..." he managed to say. She nodded and shrugged her shoulders.
"Just a few weeks... maybe a month. But yeah. I feel the same way I felt when I was pregnant with Belle." she said looking down at her lap. He just looked at her and started grinning. Sure, it was really soon. They weren't even married yet. But he couldn't help it. He was going to be a father again!
"I-I know it's really, really soon. I mean, we just got engaged, Belle is only 2, our careers are barely starting and we don't even have a place of our own yet, but..." she said before he cut her off with a passionate kiss. She just kissed him back.
"I love you. I love you so much you have no bloody idea." he said breaking off from the kiss. She laughed a bit.
"I love you too, Ron." she said, then she kissed him.
