Chapter 10: Loss
It started as any other Sunday brunch at the Weasleys'. Everyone was sat around the table. Teddy, Victoire and Belle were running around while the adults were all talking. As Mrs. Weasley was laying the table, they heard a pop! sound. Charlie Weasley finally arrived. Mr and Mrs Weasley, as well as the rest of the family, went to him and greeted him. Belle went to her mom and tugged her dress. Hermione looked at her.
"Mommy, juice, pease." she asked. Hermione smiled and kneeled to her daughter.
"Which one do you want?" she asked.
"Appe." Belle said, smiling.
"Apple it is." Hermione said. She kissed her daughter's head, then stood up and went to the kitchen. She grabbed the jar with juice and was about to go back to the garden when she felt a sharp pain in her stomach. She put her hands on her stomach, throwing the jar to the floor, and sat there. She tried to call Ron, but she couldn't make a sound. The pain was too much for her to bear. She suddenly saw blood next to her and she started crying hysterically. Teddy walked in in that moment. Shocked by the view in front of him, he ran back to the garden and pulled Ron's hand, trying to take him inside the house.
"What is it, Ted?" Ron asked, a bit annoyed.
"Auntie Mione's on the floor and there's blood." he said. Ron ran inside and went straight to her.
"Mione? Hermione, you ok? what is it?" he asked urgently, trying to pick her up bridal style.
"R-Ron... th-the b-baby..." she cried.
"Shhhh. It's ok. We're going to St. Mungo's. You're going to be ok." he said, kissing her head as he went to the fireplace. She screamed because of the pain. The physical and the emotional one.
Harry and Ginny went to them in that moment, Belle running behind them. Ginny noticed the blood stains on his shirt, on her dress and on the floor.
"Ron, she's..." she started, horrified.
"Gin, take Belle home with you. I have to take her to the hospital quickly." he said, then he looked at Harry. "Throw the floo powder. I can't grab it." he shouted. Belle ran to him.
"Daddy! Mommy ok?" she asked. He looked at her.
"Mommy doesn't feel good, so daddy is taking her to see a healer. You stay here with auntie Ginny and uncle Harry, alright sweetheart?" he told her. Belle shook her head.
"No! Mommy!" she cried as Hermione screamed again, her hand gripping Ron's shirt tightly. Ron could see more blood coming down her dress. Ginny grabbed Belle as Ron stepped in the fireplace and Harry threw the floo powder. They arrived at the hospital shortly and he shouted for help. Healers took Hermione to a room immediately, leaving Ron alone in the waiting room. He could hear her screaming and crying. It broke his heart not being able to be there and help her, or at least comfort her. It was Malfoy Manor all over again, and again he could not save her.
By the time they let him in the room, everything was over. He just went and laid next to her on the bed, holding her tight as she cried without console. There were no words that could describe the pain they were feeling. Healers told them it was bound to happen, mostly since they knew Hermione had been through the Cruciatus Curse three years before. They knew that curse left scars inside her, scars that would make it difficult for her to conceive again. They had told them that they had been lucky Belle survived the curse, and even luckier that she was alive after everything that they had gone through at that time, but that the following times were going to be hard for them. Hermione just couldn't think of any of that now. Only thing she could do was grieve for the little life that they had barely known and that they had just lost forever.
