Prompt! Brittany and Santana are in school rehearsing their lines for West Side Story and Santana is nervous for her America solo, but Britt builds her up and helps her get her confidence up!

It was their first dress rehearsal for West Side Story and Brittany could tell Santana was a mess of nerves. She had been denying Tina's help with her costume and hair even though Santana was visibly struggling to zip up her own dress. She needed the time alone to get into character, to remember her lines, to trick herself into believing that she could nail this solo to the wall. Santana could talk the talk, everyone knew that, but walking the walk? That was a little harder.

"You always look really pretty in red." Brittany grinned, coming up behind Santana to nuzzle her nose against her cheek. She already could feel herself relaxing as her best friend-no, her girlfriend- sat down in the empty chair next to her.

Santana blushed down at her eye shadow pallet at the compliment, a small smile finding its place on her lips, before looking up to see Brittany's cute 50′s up do and baby blue dress, "You always look really pretty in blue."

"Thanks. You know, they almost had me wearing Quinn's." Brittany told her in a hushed voice as the both glance at Quinn putting on her deep red lipstick, "I don't think I could've pulled it off though."

"It's very Suzy Homemaker." Santana chuckled before looking back at Brittany's outfit, hand extending to ruffle the skirt of it, "At least you look cute in this."

"Yeah?" Brittany smirked, always accepting of Santana's new found openness when it came to complimenting her in public, "Maybe I should wear this on our next date?"

Santana just giggled and went back to finishing up her makeup. Having Brittany next to her eased some of her nerves, but not all of them. She had such high standards for herself because people were going to be watching, her mom was going to be watching, her abuela, maybe even her dad if he could. They had busy lives and she didn't want to waste their time by being mediocre. She wanted to make them proud of her, because if she was going to sing and dance, if she was going to be into this stuff, she had to be great. She's a Lopez. She can't be anything else.

"Hey." Brittany said softly when she saw Santana's hand being to shake.

Santana swallowed dryly and looked at her through the mirror, "Hi."

"Can I?" She gestured to Santana's brush and pallet.

Santana handed it over without a fight and even let out a sigh as Brittany began brushing on eye shadow, "You nervous?"

"Of course not." She lied, "I'm more talented than Berry herself, what do I have to be nervous for?"

Brittany just pursed her lips and shrugged as she set down the pallet and went for Santana's mascara, "Well, I'm nervous."

"Yeah?" Santana asked, watching Brittany's careful fingers as she looked through the makeup laid out on the counter. Brittany nodded surely without taking her eyes off the small tubes, "But..you're amazing out there. You're used to putting on a show."

"Yeah, and so are you but you can still be nervous." She said softly as she raised the mascara brush. Santana fluttered her eyes closed as she let Brittany coat her lashes, "There's nothing wrong with being a little nervous. I embrace the nerves."

"But why? Isn't it scary?"

"It's a good kind of scary, I think. All the butterflies in my stomach and the adrenaline right before I go on and the anticipation, that's what makes this so much fun. It's the best feeling ever. Well, other than kissing you. That's a pretty awesome feeling too." Brittany told her and though Santana's eyes were closed, she could feel her smiling, "But getting to perform with you too? That's even better. You've got such a beautiful voice and I can't wait to share the auditorium with you. Your parents and abuela are going to be so proud."

"I-I still don't know if my dad will make it.."

"Oh." Brittany frowned then quickly perked back up, "Well, my dad's recording it so we can make him a copy? We can play it in your movie room and hook it up to the surround sound! It'll be so awesome, San, it'll be like he never missed a thing!"

"Brittany.." Santana sighed, a smile of her own forming too.

Brittany didn't say anything, just silently finished Santana's makeup, "There. All done."

But Santana didn't look in the mirror to check, her eyes glued to Brittany's as the blonde smiled, "Thanks."

"Always. Doing your makeup is one of my favorites." Brittany shrugged as she started putting everything back in Santana's makeup bag.

"No, not about the makeup." Santana chuckled, gaining Brittany's attention, "Well, yeah that too but..thanks for everything else ."

Brittany frowned in confusion and shook her head, "But I didn't-"

"You always know what to say and when I need you to say it..even when I don't know it's what I need to hear." Santana said, her hand finding Brittany's on its own, "I love you so much."

As always, Brittany blushed all the way up to the tips of her ears, "Santana..I-I only- I'm just..I don't want you to doubt yourself when you're so, so great. I believe in you and I want you to believe in yourself too."

"I know you do," Santana nodded, "And I'm working on it, but I'm glad you're here to help too. It makes it easier."

"Well, I love you so I'm always here to help." Brittany winked, wanting to just lean over and kiss her girlfriend but hesitating because there were still holding hands under napkins and whispering their I love you's.

Surprisingly, after a quick peek around to make sure no one was looking, Santana leaned in and pressed a chaste kiss on Brittany's lips. It was quick and sweet but it was in the open and it was one step closer and Brittany felt so proud, "So, do you think you can help me with my lines one last time?"

"You just want me to speak more Spanish."Brittany teased causing Santana to smirk and lean a little closer as she reached for her script.

"Well, your accent is pretty sexy."
