"Remove the hand before I remove it for you."
It's not the most glamorous job in the world, but being a bartender pays the bills and with Santana almost finished up with school, any extra money helps. She works with an average group, Sam and Sugar, and they help pass the time during the slower hours at the start of her shifts. She shared a class or two with Sam; he's a little dorky and makes a lot of superhero references that go way over Santana's head but he's a nice guy and is probably the only one in the bar who hasn't tried hitting on her. At first, Santana thought he might've been a little gay but considering the number of girls he pulls, maybe that's not the case. Then again, she's spotted him with a couple guys too so maybe he's just picked up on the fact that Santana would never be into him since she is strictly ladies these days.
Sugar, on the other hand, is possibly a psycho.
Sometimes she jumps on the counter during favorite songs which Santana hates because it always gets the crowd flooding to the bar and where there's meant to be three bartenders, there's only two. She's probably just as ballsy as Santana with giving the flirty guys tough love, but Sugar always goes one step further with sometimes spraying them with water or spilling a drink on them like she's on Coyote Ugly. Santana has seen the owner, Will, pull her aside multiple times to reminder her of that. It never really sticks though because although it's borderline harassment, customers love it and the nights where Sugar has an episode like the Ice Bucket Challenge we double in sales.
If anything, working with Sugar is always interesting but sometimes it can be a little too much, especially when she's excited about something. She had been talking endlessly about her best friend coming to town or something, Santana tuned out after the first four words and directed her to Sam instead.
It was one of those nights where Sugar was constantly jumping up on the bar to dance, which any other night Santana would hate, but tonight was different.
"Why is she like this?" Santana asked Sam, gesturing up to Sugar who was whipping her hair around like Willow Smith.
Sam shrugged as he poured, "I think her friend is coming in today."
Santana nodded, "Makes sense."
She had been slinging drinks all night, she and Sam working around each other effortlessly like some perfected dance, meanwhile Sugar was on the counter slut dropping like it was second nature. Santana served the last customer in line and let out a sigh of relief, looking over at Sam who was doing the same, thankful for a tiny break. As Santana got out her rag and started wipe the counter, hopefully preventing Sugar from slipping and busting her ass, she saw the most beautiful blonde enter the room.
"Ah, Brittany!" Sugar squealed, waving her arms about as she hobbled off the bar and ran towards the woman. Santana watched in awe; that couldn't be the Brittany Sugar has been babbling about for two days.
"Are you kidding me?" Santana deadpanned, watching Sugar lunge for a hug. The blonde wrapped her up in a hug, lifting Sugar to the tips of her toes, with the brightest smile Santana's ever seen.
Sam walked up next to her, also in disbelief, "She's hot."
"Uh, yeah. What the hell." Santana sputtered as Sugar turned back to the bar and pointed at them. Santana was confused put lifted her hand to wave, unsure of what the hell she was doing because since when did she wave to hot girls?
"Are you sweating?" Sam pointed out.
Santana gasped, at dabbed her forehead, "Of course not, Latinas don't sweat."
"Wow, really?" Sam asked, amazed, "I wish I was Latina."
"Latino." Santana corrected.
Sam frowned, "Latin-yes."
Santana kneaded her brow,, "No."
"Guys!" Sugar greeted, suddenly closer than before, tall blonde at her side, "This is my best friend I was telling you about, Brittany."
Brittany smiled brightly again, and Santana felt herself freaking swoon.
Her lips parted but nothing came out, she was panicking, what the hell was going on with her?
"Hey, Brittany. I'm Sam." Sam replied, thankfully. He looked to his side, "This is Santana."
"Hey." Santana managed to say coolly.
"Hi. Nice to meet you both." Brittany replied, eyes lingering on Santana before looking back to Sugar, "You gonna make me a drink or what?"
Sugar laughed and climbed over the counter, calling over her shoulder, "What do you want?"
"Sugar, we have a door. Come on." Sam groaned, helping Sugar off the counter.
"It's okay, Trouty, I see it." Sugar waved him off and went to making Brittany's drink.
Santana continued to stare but thankfully a customer approached to order.

She had noticed the leggy blonde from across the room making eyes at her all night. It seemed like every time Santana looked up, Brittany was looking too. Other times she might've been creeped out, but upon seeing how beautiful she was in her tight, shimmery, off-the-shoulder dress and how sexy she was on the dance floor, Santana couldn't help but stare back. She had been waiting for her to return to the bar for a drink in hopes of chatting her up, but she was always busy when she did or Sugar would make a drink for her instead.
When she did finally manage to talk to her, it was everything. Brittany was a little out of breath after dancing to some Pit Bull song as she came up to the bar. This time, Santana was free and the blonde went straight to her.
"Water?" Santana asked as she was already pouring Brittany a glass.
She accepted happily and downed half of it quickly, "Such a good song."
"Yeah, a classic." Santana smiled, "You're an amazing dancer."
"Thanks." Brittany grinned bashfully then leaned on the counter, getting a little closer, "I wish I could dance with you."
Santana gulped at the flirtatious tone, suddenly she felt very hot.
"I think it would be fun." Brittany added with a smirk.
"Uh, yeah." Santana stammered, "Totally."
She couldn't believe how lame she was being! She never had a problem being flirty but Brittany had her acting like Sam. She was so embarrassed, but she tried to hang on to the little confidence she had left.
"Maybe we can sometime?" Santana suggested, "Not here."
Brittany's brow quirked, "How about we-"
"Brittany!" Sugar yelled, climbing up on the bar again, "It's our song!"
Brittany straightened as Sugar reached for her hand, "What?"
"Get up here! Let's dance!"
Santana watched with wide eyes, "Hang on, hang on." She said trying to stop them from getting on the bar. Sugar dancing up there was one thing, but Brittany? They didn't usually let anyone else dance up there.
But the crowd roared with a applause as the started to dance. Everyone flooded the bar as Santana and Sam looked to each other worriedly.
"What do we do?" Sam asked, eyes darting from Sugar and Brittany to the crowd that was starting to get rowdier and rowdier.
Santana had no idea, but she was starting to get worried especially when a guy started grabbing on Sugar's leg. She could handle herself though, guys trying to cop a feel was a usual thing for her since she was always dancing but when Santana saw the same happen to Brittany, she saw red.
"Hey! Get off her!" Santana yelled, lunging for the guy who had a hand around Brittany's calf. He let go instantly but Santana wasn't going to let it happen again, "Okay guys, get down! The crowd is too much!"
They didn't hear and just as Sugar was turning to dance with Brittany, a guy jumped on the bar.
"Hey man, get down!" Sam ordered, quickly getting up on the bar too as the guy started to dance with Sugar.
"Oh my God, Sam!" Santana was shocked as Sam and the guy started to shove at each other. She pressed the button for the bouncer but she could see he was already busy trying to break up another fight. She looked around her for something; the didn't keep ice buckets behind the bar and she wasn't going to leave while shit was going down.
Suddenly another guy jumped on the bar, this time on the other side of Brittany. Santana could see the blonde was growing uncomfortable with the guy trying to dance with her and Santana couldn't have that. Sam was too busy wrestling with the first guy, the bouncer was caught up with breaking up a fight, so Santana grabbed a wooden baseball bat she kept under the counter for emergencies and climbed on the bar.
"Hey asshole!" Santana growled from behind the guy, "Get the fuck down."
He turned and smiled to find Santana there, hand still on Brittany's waist, "You can get in on this too, mami."
Santana almost threw up at that and twirled the bat in her hand to wield it, "Remove the hand before I remove it for you."
"Woah, woah, easy!" He shrieked and threw his hands up in defense, "I'll get down, just don't hit me."
"Move it." Santana ordered, subtly pushing Brittany behind her so that she could climb down behind the bar. She held the bat tight in her hands, so tight her knuckles turned white. She looked behind her to find Brittany safely behind the bar and went on to get down too as Sam successfully pushed the other guy off.
Will, followed by a swarm of cops, entered the place and began clearing everyone out but the four of them remained safely behind the bar.
"Has that bat always been here?" Sam asked in disbelief.
Santana shrugged, "Auntie Snixx don't play."
"That was crazy!" Sugar mumbled, clearly shaken up, "I'm gonna sit."
"Hey, are you okay?" Santana asked Brittany tentatively, putting the bat in it's place.
"I'm fine." Brittany answered with a nod, then looked to Santana, "That was brave."
Santana blushed, kicking at the floor bashfully, "Nah."
"It was." Brittany affirmed and took a step closer to Santana, "Really brave."
"Well you know," Santana mumbled as Brittany leaned in, "All part of the job."
Brittany just chuckled as she closed the distance, placing the softest of kisses to Santana's lips. Santana's knees wobbled at the contact, her heart racing, and that was just the beginning.
Brittany pulled away, a twinkle in her eye, and pointed at Sugar, "Best. Night. Ever."
Santana would have to agree.
